As her words died out, a massive tear in the fabric of reality appeared just ten meters above the ground. Elizabeth estimated the tear to be anywhere from one to two kilometers long and from it, an endless horde of small green-haired humanoids began spawning.

This is actually a pretty good haul of Death energy… Mhmm," Elizabeth promptly showed off exactly why Mages were to be feared as multiple long range and area of effect attacks made short work of ALL the invaders that spawned from the large tear before her. Fire, Ice, Death, and even Yin-type Javelins were shot with merciless intent reaping the lives of tens of thousands of Vymling Devils before the tear from which they came finally closed.

"A pity…" Elizabeth murmured to herself. She honestly felt sad there weren't more invaders for her to try her new skill on.

"Anyways," She turned back to address her apprentices. "You're to start killing those little vermin whenever the opportunity presents itself. Many of you are already capable, but for now, let's leave the matter. Resume sparring," she ordered. The image of a tyrant had already solidified in the hearts of most of her apprentices the moment she annihilated the horde of invaders from the rift in reality. To them, only a tyrant could conduct that kind of wide-scale massacre with nary a frown on their face, but Elizabeth had to be a psychopathic tyrant to be able to do the same with a twisted smile in tow…

Almost two hours later, as she sparred with Jasper, Elizabeth had to take a moment in the middle of their fight to launch another Javelin at a smaller rift that had spawned just outside the bounds of her school. "Don't pay attention to that, keep fighting!" Elizabeth poked Jasper, who had grown distracted by her overwhelming Magic attack. How could he not flinch when she had accurately shot her explosive javelin right at the center of the second group of devils that would have descended upon them; all without bothering to look!

Since the Second Stage of the Cataclysm had started, she would periodically have to wipe out groups of invaders that spawned at arbitrary intervals from the rifts in spacetime, and she wasn't the only one who had to deal with them either. Across the whole world, similar rifts, both large and small, had begun introducing the Opal Devils to the people of Earth. As Level 1 weaklings, even regular civilians could fend for themselves; weapons would even reduce the invaders to nothing more than pests. However, their numbers and the fact that they would only grow stronger as time passed was a cause for concern.

"Oi, Kemper, I see you've broken through to the Pawn Stage," Elizabeth said on the morning of the third day of training her class. It was half-past eight in the morning when she found the short boy meditating by the beachfront.

"I broke through just an hour ago. I made sure my Magic Connection was Seamless like you explained…" The boy replied. He and Elizabeth were both talking in English.

"Mhmm… I would expect nothing less considering the Gauging Formation my colleague laid down for our class." The formation she was talking about was laid out by Jane and would guide the apprentice Mages in cultivating perfect foundations; it was accurate up to the Saint Stage.

"Anyway," Elizabeth started, "Since you have Magic, let's get down to business now… You can practice whatever I teach you on your own free time later, understood?" Kemper only returned a serious nod.

For the next ten or so minutes, Elizabeth explained to him the basis of incantations; providing several examples with energy types that she was both familiar and unfamiliar with. Casting beams of fire, armaments of ice, and even balls of water, she let Kemper pursue Spells creatively; he was free to let his imagination run wild. Since the boy was picked as the apprentice for Wood Magic, he had many avenues worth pursuing; healing, offensive, defensive, and even sealing techniques could be easily learned from the get-go.

"Just remember that you're only allowed to use Magic against sparring opponents on your level," Elizabeth said before turning around, at which point she was almost surprised. "Sun… What's up?" She asked, with eyes brightening from a probe of his cultivation.

"I just broke through to the Saint Stage," He stared at her with a confident smile, asking, "Do you mind if I spar with you for a little while? Even Tristan couldn't keep up with me in a purely physical spar…"

Whilst raising an eyebrow, she smirked, saying, "Follow me." She proceeded to walk from the beach's shore with Sun until they were about half a kilometer out on the ocean. Both of them walked on the water so casually, it would have scared the bystanders that had started paying them attention, if not for the constant absurd things Elizabeth had done since the training camp began.

"Are we sparring with weapons?" Elizabeth asked before the battle began.

"It's your call," Sun nonchalantly replied.

"Alright then, no weapons it is~" 

With a practiced bow that she had learned from Sun himself, Elizabeth and Sun faced each other and conducted a little pre-spar ritual before they crashed into each other like magnets with opposing charges. Almost immediately, Elizabeth became aware that she was totally outclassed when it came to speed. Without her Time Blade Mystic Art bolstering her speed she was barely half as fast as Sun.

Resounding booms and shockwaves alerted those that weren't already paying attention, as every time Elizabeth and Sun clashed it sounded like a gunshot; when their speed was accounted for, it was like an all-out war with the rate of hits easily exceeding dozen by the second. With everyone gathering by the beach to watch this rare battle between titans with strength surpassing the Mortal Realm, Elizabeth's apprentice Mages took on grim looks as their teacher looked to be losing.

Even with the apprentice Mages barely being able to register such a quick-paced fight that took place so far away, it became obvious to anyone by the chasing lights that Elizabeth was constantly being pushed back. Elizabeth, almost always donning her white dress, proved to be of stark contrast to Sun, whose armor was black with neon orange highlights.

To the apprentice Mages who sat by the sidelines, figuratively eating popcorn and watching the show, Sun's black and orange silhouette, which blurred into little more than a streak of light, constantly pushed Elizabeth's white, further and further back. However, from the combatants' perspectives, it was almost the opposite.

While it was true that Sun was pushing Elizabeth further and further back, it wasn't because of the hits he was dealing; not at all. Sun's hits would barely even register when they hit Elizabeth's body after her Death Thai had reached complete master for the King Stage. In fact, with Elizabeth's current Strength and Defense parameters, she was more than capable of seriously threatening Sun, which in turn forced him to rely on hit and run tactics. He was abusing speed, so as to lower the risk-to-reward ratio that sparring seriously with Elizabeth would bring.

His body would go flying — skipping atop the water even — when she seriously hit him. For the next couple of hours, they kept at it; fighting over the ocean with wanton abandon. As powerhouses with near-perfected vessels suitable for cultivation they could have kept the high-intensity training going for days, maybe even weeks with the use of Resting Pills. But by sundown, because of Death Thai's property of Battle Hysteria and Elizabeth's own growth from the experience in tempering, Sun had to resign himself to the fact that he was slowly starting to win less and less of the small battles their sparring endeavor presented.

"Uh… Thanks, for today," Sun said. His action of starting to talk for the first time since they clashed in the morning caused the fight to instantly die out. He almost sounded depressed as he smiled lifelessly at Elizabeth, saying, "I should continue cultivating… My cultivation base should have stabilized by now."

Watching Sun walk away, Elizabeth said, "Hey!" When Sun turned around and she knew she had his attention, she smiled at him genuinely as she said, "We can spar any time~" It seemed that did the trick as Sun nodded with a little more life in his eyes, before leaving to continue his cultivation within the beach resort.

I took out some branches that I had taken from this morning and used [Observe], I activate 3 of my [Magic Circuit] then I tried to pour the mana into a branch and analyze the content, structure, and purpose of the object.

Gun-Ho came back to Yangju and went back to his work at Bangil Gas again.
Once sales were made, Gun-Ho issued electronic tax invoices and added earnings and expenses to <Daily Earnings and Expenses> table in Excel, and then reported it to the owner.
 
Gun-Ho made sure to collect all receipts of every business expense incurred and attached them with glue to the back of an expense form he had purchased from a stationary store in order to properly document them. If there was a client with an outstanding balance for LP gas, Gun-Ho would make a collection phone call to that client as well. He also ran errands for the owner.
"Years of my life will go by like this?"
Gun-Ho was barely making a living; he felt anxious about getting old without saving money.
"It's Wednesday and I don't hear anything from that company in Asan which I had an interview with."
Gun-Ho was constantly checking his smartphone to see if there was any text message from the company. He increased the ringtone of his phone to make sure he didn't miss any calls. There was no phone call, let alone any text message.
"I don't think I got the job. Let's just move on; it is a lost cause. So many smart people are out there. I can't compete with them with my rubbish work experience and qualification. I just have to appreciate the opportunity for having a job interview with them."
Friday came around after Wednesday and Thursday. Gun-Ho gave up on getting a position in the company in Asan. He once again started looking through the newspaper classified section and WorkNet; however, there was no job advertisement which drew Gun-Ho's attention.

"Won-Chul Jo who is now married should be doing fine, shouldn't he? Byung-Tae Hwang who is working in a research facility of a startup company in Pangyo is getting married soon. He posted about his wedding on Facebook but didn't personally inform me. He could easily find my phone number by contacting Won-Chul or the others."
Gun-Ho drank soju almost every other day, and that increased his alcohol tolerance.

It was getting dark; Gun-Ho drove to the Gwangjeok Township Office area where his room was located. He called the landlord to give him the notice to vacate his room.

This is the story of a poor young man whose poverty even shreds apart their family willing to climb his way through society and into the top. A very realistic novel that moves away from fantasy and sci-fi and focuses solely on the issues of society and life.

As soon as Michael closed his eyes, the myriad tiny noises that pervade the background of day-to-day life disappeared, to be replaced by the steady sound of rainfall and occasional rumbling of thunder that had become so familiar. In a way, the abrupt shift reminded him of changing tracks on an audio disc. Initially the sensation was quite jarring, but the process was becoming familiar and the shift was now associating itself with a freedom from constraints and a dedicated focus time.

Michael glumly reviewed the presented information. While he had asked for it, and the System had been quite generous in the rewards, as not only would completing these missions benefit him but he'd also end up with an enhanced Lucid Space and a Mental Enhancement Module, he still felt like he was a gambler throwing good money after bad. He was already concerned about not having enough time, and now he had four more missions to complete!

Still, each of them could be taken one step at a time once he figured out what he would need to do to complete them, and a little more variety would probably be helpful. It was just becoming more and more important that he set himself up a good schedule. He decided that the following evening would be another take-stock session, and he would spend some time coming up with a plan to tackle each of his outstanding missions, as well as constructing a formal routine with the System's help.

And he reminded himself once again that after he completed all of these, he'd be a pretty impressive individual! 

"Maybe I could even catch the eye of a pretty girl or two," he mused. However, when a few of the women he'd encountered in the past week or two popped into his mind, he quickly blushed and cleared his mind. No time for that when there are missions to accomplish!

With that decided, he opted to put the textbooks away for now and go back to his philosophy reading. That would give him an opportunity to calm down and focus on something else. He had the system generate the book again and he lay down on his stomach on the fake bed with the book open in front of him while the sounds of the storm from the recesses of his memories rumbled away outside.

It's the turn of the 21st century in a world not unlike our own. 14 year-old Michael wakes up on the first day of high school with a nosebleed, a splitting headache, and the voice of someone claiming to be him from a number of years in the future in his head!

It certainly was a biased view, since not even Joshua would simply seek a practice bout with a friend under such circumstances. "Becoming god…" Israel thought about it a little before answering seriously, "I believe it feels like omnipotence, and yet there are burdening restraints."
"How do I put it…it is actually very similar to being Emperor, perhaps even identical."
Joshua's expression remained unchanged, while Israel appeared to be aware of the ambiguity of his description, which was why he continued, "There was a time I felt omnipotent in the past, when I rose to the throne as a Legend. Joshua, you may not be aware as you have never deliberately pursued the power to rule, but you should be able to understand that when a person stands alone against an entire nation with his own fighting capability while holding the greatest ruling authority within, he would certainly feel very relaxed."
Israel smiled at that. He was unlike the Seven Gods who were often calm like machines most of the time, having retained his personality as Emperor. "At the time, I believed that I could change the world easily," he said in good humor, "that none could stop or control me. As long as I was willing, I could simply indulge in debauchery and have the entire country become a theme park."
"But you didn't," Joshua added and nodded at that. "You still focused on changing the nation."
"Yes." Israel's tone had become rather cold; he appeared to have recalled unpleasant matters. "I had been a frontline general from the Imperial Family who then became Emperor. My authority had peaked, and reasonably speaking, I should have been doing what I wanted—but that was not reality."
"As long as I hoped for stability and no infighting within the country, the nobles' revolt would crumple Order within the Empire and bathe all life in ashes. All I could do was plan slowly over decades to change things gradually."
With that, the new divine being laughed. "And that is the same for a god."
"I felt as if countless layers of shackles had been freed in the single instant I ascended from Legend to god, and I knew at once that many things I couldn't do before was possible now. Details that previously bothered me such as strength, endurance, and reservoir of energy are unlimited for gods. Recently, in the moment I had just awakened, I felt as if there was nothing I couldn't do. But like how it had been after my coronation, many things turned into shackles after I became god."
There is clearly unlimited power, but was it limited from being used as much as possible due to divinity? No, that factor existed but was not it… it was a limit on another aspect instead.
Joshua nodded thoughtfully beside Israel. He had actually guessed how Israel felt, but did not interrupt his description.
Meanwhile, Israel continued softly while looking up towards the distant Void—the forward base of the Combined Fleet. "Aside from the upper limit of divinity which could cause godly death, the duty alone was much greater than when I had been Emperor. Millions believe in me, in the name of the God of Might and Justice. A hundred thousand clerics preach my doctrine to help me alleviate the burden of divinity erosion while drawing divine strength from the Root. All of the Empire and the civilization of Starfall care about me, because they need a guardian, a patron deity, and the great power I command as a god to maintain Order upon this world."
Israel then paused for a moment before turning to Joshua, and said with mixed feelings, "In truth, there is no meaning to me in becoming a True God. Before my ascension, I had always considered deities as a rather free existence and with ability do anything that came to mind, using the gravitas as a superior being to change norms that do not sit well with me. However, I was wrong—gods hold such great responsibility that every word and act must be considered carefully… the feeling of being a god is like being another kind of emperor who certainly commands unrivaled power but has to limit themselves for various reasons, caged and unable to unleash full power."
"That is so."
Even Joshua could not help but to sigh softly in response.
He had thought about similar issues recently, having attempted to use his power to crisply pacify the unrest that the Evil God of Death had caused. Still, he quickly gave that up as he wanted all of civilization to undertake that task, and hence would not have denied the people of an opportunity to experience conflict and think out of haste. Civilization could never grow without impact on mindset, and without experiencing true conflict, none would care for true peace.
Just as maintaining stability in a nation meant being Emperor Israel, who had practiced restrain and was forced to compromise with the aristocracy in order to change the world little by little, being a god also meant having patience and slowly guiding civilization in the name of progress. Moreover, he had risen as a god only recently, and would still have to think about ways to slowly reform doctrines and construct his system of Order.
Both Joshua and Israel fell silent once again.
In the Void, two streaks of light darted.
Then, when the pair was about to reach the Combined Fleet, Israel suddenly spoke again after a long silence.
"To be frank, Noble Radcliffe…"
There was a hint of strong worry in Israel's tone as he asked softly, "Is it exactly because I have become god that I am now doubtful—can civilization and gods coexist?"

The new God of Might and Justice even stopped, lifting both hands and said with a low voice, "Such infinite power can allow any god to leave their own civilization, simply heading for another corner of the galaxy to create a race that consecrates themselves and maintains their own eternal existence…Gods can really ignore any conditions, a true one-individual civilization. Should their homeworld be destroyed, a single god would definitely be able to re-create their species, to start again in some isolated spot."
"Unlike emperors who would no longer be emperors without their subjects, a god who has lost devotees can simply create some or find another race in another world to rebuild their Order."
Just like Father Nature, Joshua thought quietly. The deity had precisely led some elves to another small world to seek refuge, and as a Prime Deity, had actually altered the world's construct, modifying the World Will in order to form a special environment. Even if he had ran off alone without those loyal elves, it would have merely been a few centuries or millennia before the god created a new population of elves.
If that was the case, it was easy to comprehend Israel's worries.
Since gods were so powerful, binding them in service to their homeworld and not bringing along a group of followers to some corner of the Multiverse for self-indulgence genuinely depends on the god's makings. Maintenance of the connection between god and civilization actually relied upon a one-sided quality—it really was not easy to keep original intentions as time passed.
It was a cruel joke.
Nonetheless, Joshua was not too worried about Israel's question and anxieties.
"Don't dwell on it, Your Majesty, but let us first set aside the most basic problem that gods actually require the returns from strong native civilizations to become powerful." The warrior said, dampening the tension at once, "You might not actually live until your essence deteriorates—I won't live that long either, just like the other Six Gods, so don't give me that look. Either way, most gods would not live until the day they have a change of heart. Since your character is too great, the question you raised is hence apprehension about something that may never come."
Joshua was, in fact, laughing with those words, although he quickly reverted to his solemn face and shook his head. "Our Starfall Era, eighteen hundred years old, has had Seven Gods who remembered nothing and yet held on steadfastly to beliefs they had long since forgotten until Zinsen's recent sacrifice. Even without mentioning that, there has been no person in the Glorious Era's five-thousand-year history who ascended as god being so inferior."
"Your Majesty, you may not be as old as those gods, but should the Mycroft civilization suddenly be struck by an apocalypse—such as being crushed by some galactic-class Evil God passing by—doesn't having a surviving god mean someone survived? At the very least, civilizations would never be wiped out as long as gods exist—they are insurance for civilization, and whether it runs eternal matters not, since it is a different question."
Indeed, Joshua's perspective was so practical that the worried Israel was left at a loss for words. Most importantly, the warrior was not wrong—no god had changed with time in both the Starfall and Glorious eras, and his worries were purely theoretical without actual examples in reality.
"…A divine enemy of mine resides in these alien stars."
Israel switched the topic and started again, although he sounded troubled, "It is exactly because I sensed a belief of the alien civilization that ran counter to mine, that I have awakened from the root. I would have slumbered another two years if I had not been triggered by them to affirm my ideals."
"It may be a theory, but a similar method can be applied to hasten any awakening should someone else ascend after myself—having an enemy is like adding a lively, thrashing catfish into a fish tank that is one's spirit. It would definitely help exceptionally."
"Alright. I would remember that and relay it to the others."
Joshua's expression became abruptly solemn—it was an experience culminated by Israel, who used himself as a test subject. The Seven Gods of mankind did not have such experience, given that they were already divine beings at their awakening. Israel was meanwhile the first Divine Evoker, whose ascension itself was a great reference to anyone else intending to do the same, and therefore holding immense value.
That was when a familiar presence reached them. Both Joshua and Israel hence looked up. Nearby, the four Legends positioned at the frontlines left their stations and gathered in the Void in anticipation of the arrival of one person and one god. Vahina, Galanoud, La Motte, and Yana Milo, along with other fleet members waiting behind them, had formed a long line, welcoming their return. Behind them were the massive Void Behemoth fortresses of the Starherders, the ramparts that Mycroft's Combined Fleet set the borders with, along with the Knowers' boundless iron fortress that stretched across the Void.
At that very moment, Joshua rather dully realized that they had truly entered the swirl that was the Multiverse.
They were already a part of them.

The Twelve Sanctuaries, a mysterious planetary system.
"They are definitely not some newly founded civilization."
An old Takurian sat upon the highest throne at the central shrine in the First Sanctuary, his expression somber and prudent as he spoke quietly to five other differently ranked seats beneath him. "Their single fleet boasts more than five Magnus, and they had only appeared unformidable because they were not using their full power in combat. Each of their Extraordinary ability is different as well, every path they assume being very complete."
Beneath the Patriarch's throne, the five Takurian Prophets each made quiet exchanges psionically. None would dare doubt the information which the Grand Patriarch had gathered with his personal clone, but that had been precisely why they were in shock.
"To reach the threshold of 'Falsehood', 'Magnus', and 'Spectral Wraith' in the path of psionic power alone was the result of the Takur Cult's millionfold trials and errors and precious experience we gained by incessantly engaging the Amos in war. Each path of Extraordinary power requires substantial experimentation, a road of blood that countless geniuses had fallen to set… and yet, those alien visitors had each such a complete path—even if they were all prodigies, they are not a civilization who have risen in the recent millennia."
As he recalled the young silver giant god who had unleashed Steel Strength and yet fought veteran champions such as them for so long, as well as the one who came later and almost disintegrated Imperator Amos's clone with a single strike, there was wonder in the aged face of the Grand Patriarch. "Moreover, they have thorough research of divine energies, even developing a unique way of fighting that imbued sources of that power into their bodies. Even if was a waste of a genius' life and the power cannot be shared, it would at once create an Extraordinary form of great strength."
"There are things to learn from them even if they are alien infidels. First Prophet, come with me to the 'Shifting Divine Energy Source' later—I have gained new inspiration. The rest of you, direct all personnel to collect data on ancient civilizations—such a powerful world is definitely not some anonymous body, and they would definitely possess ancient legacies even if not that old. We must uncover every hint and clue about them."

The outer layer of a supermassive nebula was within the core system of the Amos Court.
A weirdly-shaped living Amos fleet was patrolling the nebula, checking for any possible deviation of stellar forms and correcting them. It was as if they were the maintenance workers or gardeners of the stars in charge of the galactic garden's interior, fine-tuning to ensure it looked good and was useful.
Nevertheless, that was the moment when a profound and imposing consciousness emerged, prompting every Amos individual to stop whatever they had been doing and pay respects to the core of the nebula with full reverence.
A calm voice resounded.
"Search the ancient text from seventeen thousand years ago."
Imperator Amos was irritable and quick to anger, but it was merely a question of personality, since he had the right to whimsically vent his emotions. Still, he could calmly and rationally handle any problem as long as he wanted to, and now, that profound will in the center of the nebula was simultaneously conveying his orders to the Amos vessel that was protecting his true form. "Go to surviving archives in the ruins various civilizations and access every purged data in any form. They may be weak, but knowledge and truth have no divide between the strong and the weak—I must know the name and description of every ancient civilization in history."
"Your will, our honor!" every Amos entity replied and steered their ships to each planetary system where civilizations that they decimated once dwelled. Meanwhile, at the core, the supermassive nebula which size actually dwarfed a planetary system, was having a rare moment to ponder. That silver fellow had clearly fought more viciously and was even more of a threat, Imperator Amos thought perplexedly, but why do I feel more disgusted by that golden one who appeared later?
Was it because he had taken a sly advantage to destroy his clone with a single strike? Even so, the battle between champions did not dispute against typical strategies, which meant he was himself at fault for not being strong enough to free himself from the foe's entanglement—he could not excuse himself from that weakness and had to overcome it instead.
The Imperator thought about it for such a long time that even the light emanating from the nebula began to shift, turning from white-hot into the colors of dawn.

"They have come from the Lost Galaxy which has been sealed all along, fitting the description of 'hidden from beyond, watching the stars at a side'."
"They call themselves the Mycroft's Combined Expeditionary, their mana-powered communications is pronounced 'Mycroft' when spoken in primitive vocal communication, (the Knowers could use meaningless spells as language and vocal means of communication did not exist in their society, which was why conversion was needed) they fit the description by a hundred percent."
"The four hundred and forty-seven fleet marshals have unanimously agreed with everything stated above. This civilization from the unknown galaxy fits the thirty-seven descriptions of the grand worlds, and it is confirmed that they are the Ancient Forerunners, the heirs to what remained of Glorious Mycroft. It is ascertained that they are one of the superior civilizations who had once repelled the World Eaters from the frontline, and had probably triumphed… which is why the Multiverse has survived until now."

They knew that the world will change completely, after all everyone in the world woke up an Innate Skill, and they will show it to the world.

Many YouTube videos showing many incredible things that one will think there are movies, but no, is completely real.

And of course, with the risk of having the world destroyed, everyone forgot for a moment their differences and began to think about the world.

And in just five days they released new laws to the world.

These laws talked about people's skills, items that they will get in the realm, etc.

In resume, they said.

You can't blindly use your skills in public.

Only certificated companies can buy things from the realm.

If you want to sell something, go one of them. Of course, every country made its own institution to buy and sell things from the realm.

So people that know martial arts began to get in demand, also Dojo's.. The stronger, the better.

So I also received a call from the US Army to go back. They offer me a lot of money, fame, and a lot of sh*t but I didn't accept. I don't plan to become someone dogs again and fight for others again.

Of course I also received the same call from the Japanese Army, after all they knew about me and my 'family', so they know what I am capable.

I can easily use a sword and kill a high-skilled squad with guns.

My martial art is called, 'Aragami War Art'. It doesn't have "techniques" like a normal martial art like karate. This Art only teach us how to get our body stronger and make it able to use it at perfection. From your legs, to your eyes. Every sense is sharped to the maximum making the user the stronger warrior.

Lucid was now able to manipulate the temperature of a given area, though he couldn't maintain it for very long. He actually couldn't maintain any of his magic for very long, whether friction or fire or enlargement. After a set amount of time, the magic would simply wear off or be canceled. The one exception had been the wall of fire, which had stayed up for a considerable period of time. Still, it had drained him of all his strength and Lucid knew that it had been the price to pay.

Regardless of all this, Lucid had succeeded in another type of magic, and he was very proud of himself. He returned to class right as classes were about to resume and noticed a purple jacket hung over one of the chairs. The more he practiced it, the more he realized how wondrous magic was, but it still paled in comparison to this world's technological advances. They were a result of countless years of countless experiences and had shaped this world into one where magic was wholly unneeded.

"This test, formally known as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale, is one of the most widely used tests to measure IQ. In today's case, we used the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC), which is used to test children between the ages of 6 to 15. The child in question achieved a score of 124. That puts him in the top 7%, so we can see right away that he has a remarkable IQ. That being said, if we consider the fact that most "prodigies" have an IQ of 130, which is the top 2%, it'd be a bit of a stretch to call him a prodigy."

It was a disappointing answer, especially for the filming crew. Wang considered all the changes that needed to be made to the storyline, while Producer Jang continued to ask questions to stretch the video length.

"Could you analyze the results in more detail, please?" he asked, signaling his team to insert subtitles for this portion when the video was to be released.
"Well, if you look at all the individual results, he achieved astounding scores in most of the categories. Especially here, in math, vocabulary, and comprehension. This tells us that he's especially adept in language. On the other hand, he only achieved above average scores when it came to performance. This means that he spends a lot of time reading, which allowed him to develop his perception, awareness, and understanding skills."

As Wang circled keywords such as "reading" and "IQ development," Jang quickly scribbled down "regular vs hardworking prodigy" next to her notes, underlining the phrases for added emphasis. It didn't take long for Wang to catch on to what he was saying. A self-made prodigy, who worked hard and studied his way to reach an extraordinary level of intelligence, would make a much more interesting story than just a regular prodigy.

"Thank you for your time, doctor." Jang said, wrapping up the interview.
"Thank you for having me."

Once the interview was done, the staff hurriedly left the hospital to reach their next destination: Seoul Science High School. Thankfully, the physics teacher there had agreed to meet with the crew to discuss things. Thinking of it, people were much more willing to appear on television before. Now, with how dangerous things could get, they were more than careful about having their face revealed to the public. This only made work harder for filming crews, as they had to go from place to place to find someone, anyone, willing to help them and to find appropriate shooting locations as well.

Nayeon turned to Lucid, who was waiting in the car, and smiled. "Aren't you tired?" she asked. "You got up so early and had to take a bunch of tests."
"I'm okay," Lucid answered.
"Really? It's gotten so cold, and I feel terrible for dragging you around like this. But the next shoot is the last one for today, so we'll all get to go home and rest. Are you up for it?"

Truthfully speaking, Lucid wasn't cold at all, and he had fun with the IQ test. He had heard that they would now be meeting with a physics teacher from a science high school. Wouldn't that be much more fun? Indeed, he wasn't tired at all. He was excited.

"Is everyone here? Let's go!"

When they reached the school, the physics teacher (cleanly dressed, hair neatly parted, and wearing thick-framed glasses) greeted hem in front of one of the science laboratories.

"So, I've heard you have an interest in physics!" he said to Lucid, smiling warmly. Indeed, the teacher was of the firm belief that looking at a child's eyes, glimmering with curiosity and the need to learn, was a teacher's privilege, pride, and calling.

"Yes," answered Lucid.
"What have you been studying recently?"
"Right now, I'm trying to learn more about changes in temperature, but there weren't many books covering it. Before that, I was really interested in friction."

It was a pity to say the least. If only this child had been given adequate resources or even put in a more helpful enviroment, he would have been able to explore all the fields he wished to. But living in an institute, as the teacher had heard, had its limitations. A pity, indeed.

"Is there anything you'd like to ask?"
"A few, actually. I'd like to know more real life examples of how friction is used, both in fields where it is and isn't a necessary factor. I'd also like to know the observable changes given an extreme coefficient of friction. For example, when a motor is running, some energy is lost due to friction. So if the coefficient of friction were zero, the energy lost would also be approximately zero, increasing the motor's efficiency. I wonder if that efficiency will render the motor close to a perpetual motion machine, or if other factors prevent the formation of a true perpetual motion machine."

A perpetual motion machine was a thing of interest for anyone interested in physics, and Lucid's curiosity on the subject showed how young he truly was. He's still in first grade, the teacher reminded himself. Still, it wasn't this teacher's first time dealing with prodigies like Lucid. He had encountered many, actually, for various reasons, and even in this school, many of the students were truly gifted.

"Well, before we can try to understand friction, we have to learn about force and energy. Have you learned about those?"
"To be honest, I believe I don't know that much about them. I'm not quite sure how much I know, but sometimes I get the concepts confused while I'm reading, and sometimes I don't understand what the text is saying at all. So I can only say that I know for sure that I don't know much about either."
"Understanding what you do and don't know is a very important step in learning. I commend you for that. So, I'll explain both force and energy to you, and then we can talk about the scenario you told me about. How does that sound?"
"That sounds wonderful."

And so the lesson carried on calmly, peacefully, and Producer Jang was left to gnaw at his nails. It was obvious that this child possessed a level of intelligence far superior to that of his peers, even if his IQ score wasn't exceptionally high as to be considered a prodigy. Still, if you tweaked the story here and there, threw in some opinions by professionals, and focused on the "hardworking prodigy" angle, it would make for a pretty good segment. The only problem was that the current proceedings were, frankly, quite boring. He wanted (no, needed) impact, but there was no impact anywhere in the vicinity. He turned around to assess his team's reactions, and when he met eyes with Wang, he knew that she had the same worries.

"Let's take a short break. Is that alright?"
"Oh, of course."

The teacher shrugged and sat down next to Lucid, ruffling his hair. "I heard you studied all this by yourself. It must have been hard."
"It wasn't, not really. It just takes me a while, but I do understand it in the end. Even if I don't get it at first, if I keep studying, then one day I might. That's what I thought. All the middle school and high school students understand it, don't they?"

When the crew had approached him before shooting started, the teacher had assumed that Lucid would be an avid learner, with a strong need to learn and learn. However, now that he had sat down with the boy and talked, he found that Lucid was actually in no rush at all, and rather took things slowly and persevered. Perhaps that was why he wanted to help this boy so much.

"Can I ask what you'd like to be when you grow up?"
"I'm not sure yet," Lucid said nonchalantly.
"Why?"
"Because what I like and what I can do are two very different things."

The teacher couldn't shake the feeling that Lucid reminded him very much of his own son, with the way he talked. He also wondered whether living in an institute was preventing him from freely persuing his dreams, or, worse yet, even having dreams in the first place.

"What got you interested in physics?" the teacher asked again.
"Hmm... I just thought that physics was a science that allowed you to perceive the truth between everyday phenomena. I think it's very important to perceive such truths."

After all, perceiving the truth was the only way to get close to Latio and cast magic. Lucid left this bit out, which was a very wise decision indeed. The teacher was finding more and more things in common between the strange child and his son, and if Lucid were to find out that this was due to the son going through "eighth grade syndrome,*" he might have gotten quite upset.

Regardless, the teacher sat with this eighth grade syndrome first grader and exchanged many questions and answers while waiting for filming to resume. In the meantime, Jang and Wang hurried to a corner to discuss alternatives.

"I mean, won't the child himself be enough of a sensation?" said Wang carefully. Honestly, coming up with a whole different story on the spot would be no easy feat, and though the younger writers were working hard to come with something, she could practically hear the cogs in their heads creaking under the strain.
"He could be, but the footage we have right now doesn't have any impact."
"Do we really have to use his face?"

If it came to that, they could just focus on his looks by shooting his face at different angles. The camera director nodded in agreement, but Jang wasn't wholly convinced.

"There's a limit to that. If we have no concrete story, the viewers will be pissed, and they will let us know they're pissed. What if we were to throw a curveball at him, and then show how he gets around to solving problems?"
"The issue is that he doesn't have a well-rounded understanding of math and physics. He knows what he knows, and the rest is average at best."
"For now, we have to finish today's shoot. The school won't let us stay forever."

As always, time worked against them, and shooting began again. The teacher briefly explained force and energy, writing down some formulas on the board and providing examples for easy understanding. Lucid was as focused as ever, branding everything the teacher was saying into his brain.

"Excuse me, sir." Jang interrupted. "Do you have any physics experiments prepared? Something we could try right this moment. Viewers might be a bit bored if you just teach him theories all day."
"We do actually have a friction experiment set up. It's to test the difference in efficiency between two motors with different coefficients of friction. Those students there are just getting it ready, so we should be able to conduct an experiment now."

Jang went over the plan with Lucid to get his consent and immediately prepared to film the experiment, which consisted of observing the difference in rotations between two different metal rods, each attached to motors spinning at the same rate. This experiment allowed students to record exact numbers, which in turn helped them figure out how much energy was lost during the transition from electric energy to spinning energy. The difference in lost energy would thus explain how much friction affected the transfer of energy. As Lucid listened to the explanation for the experiment, he found himself completely taken by the fact that he would be able to observe changes with precise numbers, rather than having to guess.

"Sir, would it be possible to observe the changes caused by the lowest possible coefficient of friction?" he asked. This was another point of interest for him, after all.
"Hmm... Yes, of course." The teacher answered. "It's a test commonly carried out by lubricant companies. We add a bit of lubricating oil to a metal rod, compare it to a non-lubricated rod, and figure out the efficiencies for both. That's also how they test and compare oils from different companies to see which is most effective."
"Could we do that here?"
"Yes, as long as we don't show the brand name. Isn't that right, producer?"

As they weren't funded by any of the lubricant companies, and this experiment was carried out solely for the purpose of learning, Jang agreed that there would be no issues. Rather, he thought that it would make for splendid footage. As everyone prepared to carry out the experiment, Lucid was hit with sudden curiosity. The lubricating oil, after all, would only help reduce the coefficient of friction, not render it to zero.

"Then," he thought, "wouldn't I be able to calculate the results if I used magic to turn the coefficient of friction to zero?"

He would only need to sneak it in during the experiment with the lubricating oil. None of the people present would even notice, but the results would be more than meaningful for him.
