Evelyn was shock and scared and she quickly told Eloise to run away with her far  from the carriage but Eloise doesn’t move a flinch and remained inside the carriage.Suddenly a big scary looking bandit grabbed Evelyn’s hand.“hehe this one is quite the beauty you got me Miss Eloise”why is Eloise talking comfortably with the bandit?And why is she leaving me with this guy alone?I thought I was done but then a tall man came to rescue me  ... That red bloody eyes,tall and strong,dark black hair with a dangerously handsome face is no other than the rumoured....“Duke Ian” !

PROLOGUE ***

*A man is seen pacing back and forth; He's in a workshop full of papers and wrappers of candy bars*


Cyrus Clemson (the man): *Stops in front of a door that's placed in the middle of his office* You got to work, you just gotta…


*He bangs on the door a few times then hits his head against it.*


Cyrus: *is yelling at the door* Do you know how much I'm giving up just for this? Just for you not to be working?!


*Footsteps can be heard in the background; A small blonde little girl appears*


Eloise (The girl): Daddy… what's wrong?


*Cyrus sighs and turns to face her*


Cyrus: Nothing.. just go back to your room okay?


Eloise: *Is holding a book* I wanted you to read a story for me.


Cyrus: Sweetheart, I'm bu- *He pauses* Which story is it?


Eloise: Sleeping beauty 


Cyrus: I could've sworn your mother mentioned something about an heirloom. Something in a storybook. Give me the book.


*Eloise sadly nods and heads it to him*


Cyrus: Can't believe I stoop this low. Your mother was always a sucker for dumb myths and anything to do with the word, "oocult". Never really tried to see if any of that nonsense was real or not.


*He flings the book around until a small slip of paper falls on the floor*


Cyrus: Tell me Eloise… did your mother ever tell you the story of Leona?


Eloise: *Nods again* Another world where all your dreams come true.


Cyrus: *Steps in front of the door as he reads the slip* Come here.


*Eloise hesitates but walks over to her father*


Cyrus: If this works, I will no longer be the laughing stock of the science community!

*He grabs Eloise's arm and starts to chant*


Habeo tibi et in carne mea ... De sacrifice te hodie ut mens iuvenibus


*Blood starts to creep from under the door*


Eloise: My head hurts. I'm scared! It hurts so bad! Daddy let go!

*Blood starts to drop from Eloise's head and her eyes start to roll back in her head*


Eloise: *falls on the floor; her body twitching* 


Cyrus: *Drops his daughter's arm and bends down checking on her* Come on get up! We need to see if I succeeded.


*He shakes her body*


Cyrus: What the…


*He looks at his hands to see blood*


Cyrus: Eloise? Baby wake up…. this is not funny anymore


*The scene slowly fades out as all we can hear is Cyrus calling out to the dead girl*


End of Prologue ***

They had left Mark behind the mansion, as he still had to speak to the rest of the family members who did not know of the secret. Of course, there was no definite way to categorize those who did and those who didn't, so he had been told to tell everyone to surrender, for now, so that they could be screened later.
He had taken command of all of the formations that had previously been controlled by his father, so they did not fear for his safety.
As for them… That was a completely different matter.
Seeing the number of monsters that were still being sent to their deaths, Eloise slowly began to wonder whether they had bitten off more than they could chew.
A glance toward the sky reassured her, though, as even though it was concealed, she knew that the ever-present Godnet was still active here, and this was actually why they had chosen this spot.
As if just thinking about it had summoned it, the Godnet spoke in her mind.
"Analysis of the enemy is complete. Sending image and details of enemy formation to all sovereigns in selected area."
Hearing the strangely monotonous voice still brought slight goosebumps to her hands, but she was starting to get used to it.
She had been the one to discover it first – she didn't know whether he had done it on purpose or not, but the Godnet was such that the more they delved into it, the more was revealed to them.
She had spent a lot of time going deeper and deeper into its core by understanding and then unraveling the layers of formations that surrounded its bedrock, and at one point, she had heard this voice speak inside her mind.
And of course, the first time it had happened, she had been scared out of her wits.
After controlling herself, she had contemplated the thought of asking Daneel about it, but knowing what he would say, and also remembering that he had said that there were secrets about the Godnet waiting for them if they grew skilled enough to control it perfectly, she had taken it in stride.
At the moment, because she had the most command over it, that voice only responded to her. So far, it was capable of doing tasks such as analysis, which she had just used, and also deploying a few incredible spells that she had found at the deepest level she had been able to reach so far.
Each level had been like a puzzle, but what she had basically been doing by unraveling them was understanding the working of this incredibly complex construct, which had, in turn, furthered her own understanding of formations, elementary particles, and, of course, magic.
If she had known that Daneel had created it in this way because he wanted his sovereigns to all be able to control the Godnet perfectly with their own minds unlike him who used the system, she would have felt proud of herself, as she had progressed far more than he had thought she would in so little time.
She snapped out of her thoughts when they all felt that now familiar feeling of having something sent directly to their minds, and together, they all studied the information about the formation that was being used under the sea by the family to fend off the creatures that saw them as a tasty morsel.
Eloise, and even Elanev could not help but raise one eyebrow as they saw the shape of the formation.
It was comprised of a bulbous head in which all the elders, and those of lesser power among the members who had been transported here were sitting, while calmly monitoring the situation in the area around them.
Below this head, numerous tentacle-like objects spread out, and at the end of each was a Hero, or a pair of heroes who were attacking incessantly as the creatures kept on coming.
They knew that it was foolish to stay in one place, but the family had no choice as Eloise and the rest of them had already prepared this spot perfectly.
There was a strong barrier above them which had to be broken by the combined power of multiple Heroes if they wanted to get to the surface, and as they were surrounded from all other sides, they had no option but to only try to go up.
However, because they had to occupy themselves with first staying whole, they were not able to mount a full-blown attack on the barrier, yet.
Eloise felt that the shape was familiar, so she went into her mind to check the records she had gone through in her time in the Order.
Soon, she reached the book where she had seen it before: "A History of Forgotten Godbeasts, and Their Characteristics."
Yes! A Seaking Squid… That was its name!
Legends stated that it had been a dominant Godbeast in the Endless Sea, until it had had no option but to die off, or go into hibernation due to the falling Energy levels.
She had known that the last of them had been present during the Empire, at which time they had been studied by multiple individuals and then fashioned into formations that had been lost in the Apocalypse.
Seeing this ancient formation surface now, she wandered again about the roots of the Eskilon family, but knowing that they would find out as much as they wanted after the family was vanquished, she focused on the scene, and saw that the rate at which the dead bodies floated to the surface was decreasing.
The barrier was designed so that it would allow through creatures of the sea, so from this, they could judge the situation below, as the depth at which the family had been placed was just too far away to scan using their own senses.
"You think they're tired yet?", asked Elanev, to which Xuan said, "I jape they're not too tired… I still want them to put up a fight."
Seeing her battle-hungry sister, Eloise smiled, but right away, that smile turned sour when a loud sound reached them.
Not even a few seconds later, the creature they had seen in their minds appeared on the surface.
The barrier was broken… And the cost they had to pay for this was visible.
Five of the strongest Heroes of the family lay unconscious inside that head of the creature.
Seeing this, Kellor spoke in an uncharacteristic, yet apt tone filled with the thrill of battle.
"It was ingenious to let the sea tire them out… While also letting them amass so much meat for the people of the continent to eat! Well, onto the final stage now. My fellow sovereigns… Activate your thrones! Let us make the Godking proud! Today shall be the day we rid our mother of the last traitors to taint its soil! It is time!"

Sol could only smile bitterly at the sight that greeted her. She can't decide who's more pathetic.
Si Kaia ba na umiiyak habang nakaupo sa bathroom floor at wala nang suot na blouse.
O sina Michelle at Nichole ba na kinukuhanan ng video at pictures si Kaia gamit ang kanya-kanyang cheap phones ng mga ito.
Let's get this done and over with.
The rest room stinks. Pero sanay na siya sa gano'ng mga lugar kaya hindi na siya bothered. Plus, nothing beats the foul smell of fresh blood to her.
"Is this a reenactment of a cheap afternoon teleserye that you've seen on TV?" natatawang tanong ni Sol sa mga babae. Pagkatapos, nag-slowclap siya. "I sincerely congratulate every terrible scriptwiter in this country for making stupid shows that make people like you dumber."
Sabay na lumingon sa kanya sina Michelle at Nichole para bigyan siya ng matalim na tingin.
"I'm here," nakangising sabi niya sa mga ito. "What do you want me to do?" Tinanggal niya ang isang butones sa suot niyang blouse. "Do I have to take off my clothes?" Huminto siya nang may maalala. "Ah." Tumingin siya sa malaking drum ng tubig sa tabi ng sink. "Or do you have to pour water on me first while beating me up?"
Nang hindi sumagot sina Michelle at Nichole, tumingin siya sa mga ito.
The two girls were looking at her as if they found her weird.
Ngumiti siya ng matamis sa dalawa. "It's fine. Feel free to do whatever you want to me." Lumapit siya sa dalawa, saka niya hinaplos ang tig-isang pisngi ng mga ito gamit ang mga kamay niya. Then, in a disgustingly sweet voice, she said, "You have to prepare for the consequence though. Touching me in any way is… risky."
Tinulak siya ni Nichole dahilan para mapaatras siya. "Pinagsasasabi mo d'yan?"
"Saka hindi kami tanga para bugbugin ka ngayon," dagdag naman ni Michelle. "Alam naming may pera ka kaya mayabang ka. Pero it doesn't mean na hindi ka na namin puwedeng magalaw." Ngumisi ito, saka nito nginuso si Kaia na yakap ang sarili para takpan ang dibdib nito. "Tindera lang ng gulay ang lola niyang si Kaia. Wala na rin siyang parents. Kahit pa pilitin mo `yan, hindi `yan magsusumbong kasi alam niya ang mangyayari kapag ginawa niya `yon."
"Kaya mo bang protektahan ang new friend mo dahil lang sa pera mo?" nakangising tanong sa kanya ni Nichole. Pagkatapos, ipinakita nito sa kanya ang phone nito kung saan makikita sa screen ang naked top ni Kaia. "Ibebenta namin sa'yo ang photos at videos ni Kaia. Deal?"
"Deal."
Natawa si Nichole. "Wala nang bawian, ha? Bibilhin mo ang pictures at videos niya sa kahit anong halaga, `di ba?"
"Sure," confident na sagot niya. She can always, uh, "dispose" of these girls if they ask for a ridiculous price. Not that she couldn't afford it. Para sa kanya, dapat eh worth it ang bibilhin niya sa mataas na halaga. "How much do you need?"
"Hindi pera ang kailangan namin," playful na sagot ni Nichole. "Kapalit nito, gusto namin ang buhok mo." Ngumisi ito, saka hinawakan ang dulo ng buhok niyang naka-ponytail. "Kapag ginupit mo ang buhok mo, buburahin namin ang pictures at videos ni Kaia."
Pagkatapos sabihin `yon, nagtinginan sina Nichole at Michelle at nagbungisngisan.
Habang si Kaia naman, napasinghap at halatang na-shock sa narinig.
They want my hair. Ah, I think I know what's going on. I don't mind sporting short hair but Kuya Yue hates it.
Dahil kapag maiksi ang gupit ng buhok niya, lalo daw silang nagiging magkamukha.
"All right," kalmadong pagpayag niya na halatang ikinagulat nina Michelle at Nichole. "Cut my hair. Or do I have to do it?"
Ngumisi si Michelle, saka siya nito inikutan para tumayo sa likuran niya. Then, the bitch grabbed her hair and tugged her head back. Dahil sa paghila nito sa buhok niya, naramdaman niyang bumaba ang pagkaka-ponytail niyon.
She. Fucking. Tugged. My. Hair.
Mayamaya lang, naramdaman na niya ang paggupit ni Michelle sa buhok niya. Ginupit nito iyon sa ibabaw ng scrunchie na ginamit niyang pantali. Pero dahil nahila na nito pababa ang ponytail kanina, hindi nasagad ang pagkakaiksi ng buhok niya.
Her now short hair fell over her shoulders.
Biglang nawala ang ngisi ni Nichole habang nakatingin sa kanya.
Habang si Michelle naman na nakatayo sa likuran niya, narinig niyang tumawa na parang batang excited sa kung ano. Mayamaya, tumayo ito sa tabi ni Nichole para siguro pagtawanan niya. Pero nang makita nito ang mukha niya, nawala ang ngisi nito.
And she knows exactly what took away their joyous disposition.
"Did you really think that cutting my hair short will make me look ugly?" natatawang tanong niya sa dalawa. Kahit hindi siya tumingin sa salamin sa gilid niya, alam niyang maganda pa rin siya. "My face is small and pretty. Any hairstyle will suit me," sabi niya sa casual tone. No, she's not embarrassed. Why would she when she's perfectly aware that by society's standards, she's considered conventionally beautiful? "Joke's on you, bitches."
Michelle and Nichole looked upset but they didn't try to give a retort.
Well, alam naman niyang hindi ang pagpapapangit sa kanya ang main goal ng dalawang bitchesa na `to. Pero kailangan niyang umarte na walang alam sa totoong goal ng mga ito kaya niya `yon sinabi.
"You can only make me ugly if you scratch or burn my face," pagpapatuloy niya habang tinatanggal ang mga butones ng blouse niya. Pagkatapos, hinubad niya `yon at hinagis ang damit kay Kaia na halatang nagulat. "Wear that. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare bra. But since your breasts are small, you can hide them easily."
Namula ang mukha ni Kaia na parang napahiya. Pero mukhang hindi naman ito nagalit sa sinabi niya. "S-Salamat, Sol," pabulong na sabi nito habang sinusuot ang blouse. "P-Pero pa'no ka? Lalabas ka ba ng ganyan lang ang suot?"
Underneath her blouse, she wears a white sando and black sports bra.
Sports bra ang ginagamit niya himbis na regular bra dahil nasanay siyang i-secure ang dibdib niya sa lahat ng oras. Hindi niya kasi alam kung kailan siya mapapalaban. She didn't want her ample breasts to get in the way.
"It's fine," sagot niya sa tanong ni Kaia. "I look nice whatever I wear anyway."
"Masyado kang confident, ha?" sita sa kanya ni Nichole. "Hindi ka ba nahihiya na lumabas ng ganyan ang suot?"
Hindi niya napigilang matawa sa mga tanong nito. "Coming from you? Really? You seem to enjoy taking nude photos of other girls. Pero parang big scandal na sa'yo ang rumampa ako ng naka-sando lang?"
Hindi nakasagot si Nichole na halatang hindi alam ang sasabihin.
Ah, I knew it.
"You know what? I'll let you take my pictures while I'm underdressed like this," nakangising sabi niya. "You take lewd pictures of girls you bully and sell them to perverts, don't you? Since I'm a generous classmate, I'll lend you my face and body so you'll earn some measly cash." Eksaherado siyang bumuga ng hangin, saka niya binigyan ng ngiting puno ng sympathy ang dalawa. "Beggars."
Binulsa ni Michelle ang buhok niya sa skirt nito bago siya hinablot sa damit. Pagkatapos, umangat ang kamay nito na parang sasampalin siya.
"You're really going to hit me?" malamig na tanong niya rito dahilan para huminto ito sa pagsampal sa kanya. "Are you prepared of the consequence if you ruin my face?"
Gaya ng inaasahan niya, nag-back down nga si Michelle at binitawan siya. "Ang yabang mo porke maganda ka at may konting pera," sabi nito sa halatang galit na boses. "Umalis ka na bago pa tuluyang magdilim ang paningin ko."
"Wala rin naman akong planong mag-stay dito," sabi ni Sol, saka siya tumingin kay Kaia. "Clean yourself up and go home."

"SOL!"
Huminto si Sol sa paglalakad nang makitang tumatakbo si Dusk papunta sa kanya. Makikita sa mukha nito ang pag-aalala kaya sigurado siyang narinig nito ang nangyari. "How did you know where to find me?" sita niya rito nang huminto ito sa harapan niya. Hindi pa siya nakakalayo mula sa rest room kung saan niya iniwan si Kaia at ang dalawang bitchesa. "Alam mo ba ang ginawa sa'kin ng classmates ko?"
Tumayo si Dusk sa harapan niya habang literal na nakatingin pababa sa kanya. He looks devastated while looking at her hair. "I was too late," puno ng guilt na sabi nito, saka ito tumingin sa mga mata niya. "I'm so sorry, Sol."
Pagkatapos sabihin `yon, mabilis nitong hinubad ang polo nito at ipinatong iyon sa mga balikat niya.
She didn't mind because his white polo looks neat and it smells good– just like him.
"How did you find me?" pag-uulit niya sa tanong niya kanina. "And why are you apologizing?"
"I heard it from Eloise and her friends," parang nag-he-hesitate pa na sagot ng lalaki. "They were talking about how the new girl was about to get "lectured" by Michelle and Nichole– the two biggest bullies in this school. Pinilit ko si Eloi na sabihin sa'kin kung sa'n ka dinala ng mga friends niya."
"And you're apologizing because…?"
Namula ang mukha nito, saka ito nag-iwas ng tingin sa kanya. "Kasi alam kong pinag-iinitan ka ni Eloi dahil sa'kin."
""Eloi," huh?"" sita niya sa familiarity nito sa babae. "How did you become friends with a bitch?"
Nanlaki ang mga mata nito na parang nagulat sa ginamit niyang salita. "S-Sol."
"Eloise Venosa is an entitled bitch," deretsang sabi niya rito. "It takes one to know one."
Halatang nagulat si Dusk sa implication niya na pareho silang "entitled bitch" ni Eloise. Parang hindi ito makapaniwala na "ininsulto" niya ang sarili. She's not doing that, though. Nagiging honest lang siya sa umpisa pa lang dahil ang mga gaya niyang scumbag, hindi nawawalan ng "bahong" itatago.
"Anyway, I just heard about you and Eloise today but I can already tell that you're partly to blame for her terrible personality," sabi niya kay Dusk na parang sinipa niya sa dibdib dahil sa hitsura nito ngayon. "Bakit tino-tolerate mo siya? Alam mo namang binu-bully niya ang mga babaeng nagiging close sa'yo, `di ba?"
"Nag-sorry si Eloise sa lahat ng mga na-bully niya," sabi nito sa nahihirapang boses. "Nag-promise din siya sa'kin na sasabihan niya ang mga friends niya na tigilan ka na."
"Ano ang pinangba-blackmail sa'yo nina Eloise at Quest Venosa?"
He looked shocked by her question.
Bull's eye.
"You look like a decent guy, Dusk Quijano," pagpapatuloy niya nang hindi ito sumagot agad sa tanong niya. "Kaya hindi ko gets kung pa'no ka naging connected sa isang bitch at isang douchebag. Worse, parang hindi mo kayang lumaban sa kanila. Why?"
Halata sa mukha nito ang hesitation at pagkapahiya.
He's probably thinking that if he reveals his secret, I'll find him weak. And he might be too shy to show his vulnerability to the girl she likes.
Yep, she's good at observing people because if she isn't, she would have been killed a long time ago.
And yep again, she's not being delusional: she can tell that Dusk Quijano is smitten with her. Why wouldn't he be?
"Sol, I came from a poor family," parang nahihiyang pag-amin ni Dusk. "But Eloise' family helps me and my parents have a comfortable life. If I go against her or Quest, they might cut off the financial support my parents enjoy. Kung ako lang, walang problema kasi sanay naman ako sa hirap. Pero ang nanay ko kasi– mmf!"
Hindi na nito naituloy ang sinasabi kasi tinakpan na niya ng kamay niya ang bibig nito.
"I get the gist of it so you don't have to say more," saway niya rito. "And I don't want to hear your story. I'm sorry for asking."
Halatang nadismaya ito, pero tumango naman ito.
Inalis na niya ang kamay niya sa bibig ng lalaki. "I'm not good at listening to other people, especially if they talk about their problems. I can't relate, and maybe I don't have the heart to empathize. But I can act like I care if I want to."
Ngumiti ito kahit malungkot `yon, saka ito umiling-iling. "Mas gusto kong maging honest ka sa feelings mo kesa magpanggap na may pakialam ka."
"You're a coward, Dusk Quijano," deretsang sabi niya rito. "In my book, you fall under the "normal" category."
Hindi average ang na-mention ni Dusk na family background. Ilang pamilya ba sa Pilipina sang nag-i-smooch off sa pamilya ng babaeng may gusto sa anak nila? It's a good story material for another stupid teleserye, perhaps.
Pero "normal" ang naging pag-handle ni Dusk sa sitwasyon. Tinanggap nito na wala itong magagawa laban kina Eloise at Quest. Mas pinili rin nito ang comfortable life kesa sa pagiging righteous nito.
She likes that he's not trying to be a hero for anyone. There's nothing wrong in being a coward to have a quiet life. Just like how she's risking her identity that's not supposed to be exposed for a normal life that she's always longed for.
"It must have been hard for you to hold back everytime Eloise or Quest bullies your schoolmates," sabi niya rito, saka niya marahang tinapik-tapik ang balikat nito. "Hang in there."
"Are you not going to tell me to stand up against them and protect my schoolmates?"
"No," natatawang sagot niya. "Why would you do that when you can't even protect yourself from the Venosa cousins?"
Namula ang mukha nito, halatang napahiya.
"I don't like guys with savior complex," pag-a-assure niya rito. "I like my guy to be as normal as the next person." "Normal" by her standards, that is. "Stay the way you are, Dusk Quijano. Soon, I'll come and pick you up."
Nag-pout ito sa kanya. "You talk as if you're talking to a puppy."
"Then you're my puppy now," sabi niya, saka niya marahang pinisil ang mga pisngi ni Dusk. Nanggigil kasi siya sa pagiging cute nito. "I'll come to you one of these days. If you still want me when that time comes, I'll fight for you."
"Does it mean we can't be together right now?" malungkot na tanong nito. "If it's about Eloise, kakausapin ko siya–"
"It's not about that bitch," putol niya sa mga sinasabi nito, saka niya inalis ang mga kamay niya sa mga pisngi nito. "I just don't need you right now, Dusk Quijano."
Halatang nasaktan si Dusk sa mga sinabi niya. "Am I that useless?"
"You can say that for now," nakangiting sabi ni Sol, saka niya ginalaw ang mga balikat niya dahilan para mahulog ang polo ni Dusk sa kalsada. Pagkatapos, nakangiting tinuro niya ang sarili habang naglalakad paatras. "Don't worry, Dusk– a bitch like me is replaceable."

"WHERE do you think you're going dressed like that?"
After leaving a dumbfounded Dusk, now she met Quest Venosa. Mukhang tama si Cloud noon nang sabihin nitong "talent" niya ang mang-attract ng mga guwapo.
"Good thing uwian na at walang dumadaan sa part na `to ng school kapag may binu-bully sina Michelle at Nichole," sabi ni Quest nang huminto ito sa tapat niya. Pagkatapos, hinubad nito ang suot na hoodie at hinagis `yon sa kanya. "Wear that. I don't want anyone else to see you expose that much skin."

Despite the protests of what was essentially her entire family, Eloise had made her way to Dathow Han. After only a night of thought, she had decided that her body was a small price to pay for the kind of influence she could have in the Wendolan court for her people. She had the spirit of a warrior, just not one who used a sword. What better place for her than the Palace where no such weapons were allowed?
Of course, Jenny was not about to let her little sister be sold off like that. She may not have been able to convince Eloise at home, but perhaps upon seeing the Wendolan King she'd change her mind.
The Camp of the Eastern Army was situated mainly outside of Dathow Han. Though Eloise had seen from a distance that another camp existed further downriver, opposite which was the bulk of the Wendolan Army. From a distance, they'd also been able to see the general layout of prisoner camp, which was situated right near the centre of the army.
The Nobles of the East were situated mainly in the inns and house of Dathow Han, but Saorise herself was in a tent with the main army. Of course, Eloise and Jenny only discovered this when they arrived and were immediately escorted to see Saorise.
"My lady," both Jenny and Eloise curtsied as they greeted her, and Saorise smiled at them. She looked tired. Not at all like the brilliant and strong woman Eloise had met the previous year. She still held a force of presence that was unmatched though, and Eloise respected her all the more for it.
"The ladies Ridgelam," Saorise stated, "It is good to see you, am I to assume you are here to answer my call?".
Jenny scoffed, "Not in a million years would I enter into that nightmare of a court. Though my sister does not seem to have the same sense of pride".
Eloise ignored her sister, "I am willing to meet with his majesty and hear the full proposal. If it to help my people I will sacrifice freely".
Saorise smiled, as if proud but not entirely happy, "You are sure?"
Eloise nodded, "I am".
Saorise nodded, "There are four others that have expressed an interest in hearing the rest of the deal. More than I thought. But it seems your reasoning is all similar. For the good of the East".
"We are proficient in the hunt, and just as deadly on the battlefield," Eloise spoke, "But I believe we have yet to prove how efficient we can be with words as well".
"Perhaps, though I admit I have yet to agree with such licentious practices. Nevertheless I respect you for the decision you have made and commend you for your sacrifice," said Saorise, "We will be having a Festival of Dancing Leaves in two days time and the Wendolan King has been invited to attend. It will be your first meeting. Until them, I can have the exact terms sent over to you to consider, I received them a few days ago from the Wendolan party".
"Thank you, I would appreciate it," said Eloise.
Saorise indicated to a soldier who had come to escort them to their accommodations, "Then let me or General Lowan know if you need something. I believe your father and one of your brothers is among the camp, I do believe at least one other is among the prisoners however".
"Damn, Wendolans," Jenny grumbled.
"Yes well, as much as I would love to see the looks on their faces when another woman shoots an arrow across the river at them Jenny, I would prefer you not to do so, there is a ceasefire currently in place," Saorise smiled.
Jenny smirked, "You shot an arrow at them?"
Saorise shrugged, "I was in a mood and it was the fastest way to send a message. At least the King got my joke".
"Oh?" asked Jenny with a raised eyebrow, "Send one right back at you did he?"
"Aye, seemed mildly impressed when I didn't flinch. Must have given me some edge in negotiations,"  Saorise said.
"I don't think you need an edge, Saorise. I think your reputation proceeds you enough for that," Jenny replied.
Saorise raised an eyebrow as if confused, "Reputation?"
Jenny smiled and Saorise smiled back.
"I have missed you, join us for dinner?" asked Jenny.
"If I can," Saorise replied, "Please make yourselves as comfortable as possible".

It was true that two of their brothers had been captured. They had four in all. Their father, Herbert Ridgelam, had had two sons, Leon and Jack before he'd welcomed a daughter, Jenny. He'd then had two more sons, the twins Ryder and Thomas before Eloise had come along. Thomas had been injured in an earlier battle, and was still in the process of recovering. Ryder and Leon had both been captured, leaving Jack to be beside his father and watch over his recovering brother.

"You've only just become a woman, Eloise, this is not the time to consider marriage, let alone marriage to a foreign king as one of many wives," said Herbert.
Eloise sighed, "This is not a decision you can make for me father. And I have been a woman for quite some time now. I meet the age requirements and am willing to make the sacrifice for our people. Please do not try to stop me from doing this, it is selfish and you know it".
Herbert sighed. He'd never been able to argue with his youngest daughter. She was too clever for her own good. The rest of his children was easier, they were warriors with weapons. Eloise had always been one to fight her battles through words instead.
"You will not even consider turning away from this farce?" asked Herbert.
"It is not a farce," said Eloise, "Besides, the Festival will be my chance to meet my husband-to-be. If he is an absolute horror then I don't suppose any of us will be willing. Though I have heard enough to know that he is not all the rumours say he is. At least he is not a complete idiot. Perhaps I will be able to have a conversation with a man that doesn't involve hunts and battles".
Herbert's eyes narrowed, "We have those conversations".
Eloise smiled as she reached up on her toes to kiss her father's cheek, "And should I leave I will miss them dearly, papa".

Christmastime wasn't terribly fun for Violet since she was stuck on the couch for the most part. At least she was able to eat all the things her mother baked as much as she wanted for the first time in years.
She started physical therapy right after the holiday and it was excruciating. Kaleb or Nathan drove her to her appointments since everyone else was at work but sometimes Noah was able to come pick her up from them.
Violet followed every instruction to the letter—she absolutely would not stand for the possibility of screwing up her own recovery by being the slightest bit lax or by pushing too hard too soon. Her physical therapist was impressed by her dedication since most people didn't follow the rules so strictly.
More than anything, she was determined to dance again. The director of the ballet had come to visit her while she was laid up at home, explaining that he could hold her place in the company for a maximum of twelve months. Any longer than that and he would be forced to replace her.
Her physical therapist said her mobility should be completely restored in the original 3-6 month time frame she was given but that it might take longer to be able to build her muscles up to where they were before. Dancing on pointe would probably take her more like 6-9 months.
Violet didn't care how long it took as long as she didn't destroy her knee permanently and was still able to make it back into the New York City Ballet before her year of leave was up. She tried her best to remain optimistic but losing the ability to dance forever threatened to destroy her.
After one particularly painful and difficult day at physical therapy, she broke down sobbing in Noah's arms.
"What if I really can't ever dance properly again? Then what am I supposed to do with my life? I won't be me anymore if I can't dance."
He gently stroked her back as he spoke in a calm, soothing voice. "I really don't think that's going to happen, Vi. Your physical therapist seems confident in your progress even though you feel like it's going too slowly."
"But what if it does?" she sniffled.
"Then we'll figure something else out. Even if you can't dance professionally, you should still be able to move around enough to be a dance teacher. All you would have to do is push your plans up a little earlier than expected," Noah pointed out rationally. "Like I said, I don't think that's going to happen though. You'll be the prima ballerina of the New York City Ballet again in no time."
His words were exactly what she needed to hear. Especially 'we'll figure something else out.' Noah included himself in her problem like they were a team. He had always been like this but somehow things felt different now that they were in a relationship.
He wasn't only her best friend helping her out. He was her partner, like her parents were partners. It was Violet and Noah against the world even more than before.
Many times over the years she had wondered what on earth she would do without him when things got hard but she had never thought that more fervently than when she was recovering from her surgery.
Noah was the only thing keeping her sane when anxiety about the future threatened to destroy her. As always, he continued to be her safe place.
"And Vi?" he spoke up again.
"Yeah?"
"You'll always be you, no matter what your job is. And I'll always love you."
Violet gazed up at him through her tears and could see the earnestness on his face. How had she ever missed it every time he supported her over the years? He was looking at her the same way her father looked at her mother. Like she was the entire world.
She didn't know what she was supposed to say to that. Their romantic relationship really hadn't progressed that far in the weeks they had been together. She got the feeling he didn't want to scare her by moving too quickly, which she appreciated.
Changing a lifetime of feelings wasn't something that happened overnight. But she had to admit, she didn't think she could possibly love someone more than she loved Noah in this moment. If he kept being his wonderful self, she would fall in love with him for sure.
Since the day she told him she couldn't bear to lose him, they hadn't kissed again. Violet was fairly certain he was waiting for her to make the first move.
There was no time like the present. Overwhelmed with feelings of affection and appreciation, she tilted her head up to plant a kiss on Noah's lips. He was surprised for a moment and pulled back to look her in the eye.
"Hey Vi…I don't want to overstep your boundaries or anything…but I really, really want to kiss you right now.  Properly. Is that okay?" he asked a bit nervously.
Violet nearly laughed. The look on his face was so cute! She smiled and gently caressed his cheek, feeling emboldened by her earlier surge of affection for him. 
 "Yes, Noah. But you know, you didn't need to ask."                      
His eyes widened, pleasantly surprised, before he leaned down to kiss her again. She had been kissed before but it had never felt so sweet. Despite his obvious inexperience, Violet could feel all of Noah's love for her pouring through his kisses.
Her heart pounded in her ears and when they finally broke apart, she buried her face in his neck, unable to look at him. This was Noah. The man she had thought of as a brother up until a few short weeks ago. How could he possibly be making her heart pound like this already?
"You don't look very comfortable," Noah pointed out. "Do you want to move?"
Violet's leg, still in its brace so she couldn't bend it, was sticking out somewhat strangely as she sat on his lap. With a flaming face, she swung it around so she could sit next to him instead. How embarrassing!
"Want to play Scrabble?"
He spoke nonchalantly, as if they hadn't barely finished making out. She really wondered how he could be so cool and collected about this when she was such a visible mess. 
Noah had always been the most relaxed person she had ever met, but still! If he was really in love with her shouldn't he have some sort of reaction? He had been such a wreck when she made him be a stand-in for the prince…
Violet narrowed her eyes at him. "How are you so calm right now?"
He cracked a smile and confessed, "My calm is an illusion; I'm actually about to spontaneously combust. You can feel my heartbeat if you don't believe me."
She lay a hand on his chest and sure enough, it was thrumming so rapidly there was almost no pause in between heartbeats at all. She let out a small snort. It was nice knowing she wasn't the only one freaking out going into uncharted territory.
"Do you really want to play Scrabble?" Violet asked doubtfully.
"Truthfully, I'd rather continue down the path of spontaneous combustion."
This time she couldn't contain her laughter. What an interesting way of saying he wanted to kiss her again. Noah had always worded things so hilariously.  
Violet stood up and offered him her hand. "Well, if you truly want to spontaneously combust I'm not going to stop you. Since I can't bend my leg though it might be easier to stand."
He accepted her hand eagerly but as they were about to start kissing again they both burst out laughing because of the awkwardness of it all. They laughed so hard that they ended up touching foreheads for support. This was definitely going to take some more getting used to.

A dangerous host of Starspawn surrounded the Defiled Gene. The mysterious light carrier became the nucleus of a gathering of the most dangerous astral lifeforms in the Dark Sphere!
None of the outfits presents let their guard down. They maintained a healthy distance from the radiating orbits of the dark jellyfish-like creatures, afraid that they would buckle out of the control of whatever means Mr. Drenad used to exert control over the astral creatures!
Even Eloise felt disconcerted by her proximity to the beasts. The Starspawn inflicted huge losses on the Insurmountable Drakes over the years.
If they succeeded in repelling the Starspawn, it quickly turned out that they were worse off due to the amount of fuel, energy and supplies they used up. There was absolutely no profit to be gained from battling the Starspawn!
Not even the increasing amount of Alpha Starspawn tissue they accumulated in their stores served to give them any satisfaction. Though they knew that the powers that be hungered for Alpha Starspawn tissue, it didn't help out the Insurmountable Drakes at all because they couldn't exchange it for critical supplies!
Despite Eloise's misgivings about this venture, Commander Pritchard went onboard with the plan, which meant the rest of the Insurmountable Drakes followed suit.
Besides, she saw the logic in the plan. By throwing the Starspawn at the defenses of the Silent Nomad forces as cannon fodder, the outfits stood a real chance at breaking through to the portal that led them back to normal space!
The Defiled Gene gathered so many Starspawn that the Silent Nomad forces needed to exert a huge amount of effort to repel their assault. This gave the remaining outfits the confidence that this risky plan might succeed. If they attacked on their own, then there was no question that they would break into pieces!
A tense half day of travel ensued. As they came closer and closer to the space fortress the Silent Nomad forces parked in front of the portal, the enemy detected their presence and readied themselves for battle.
As Eloise performed her final checks, Ves eagerly prepared to absorb a lot of insights during the upcoming battle. This was what he anticipated the most!
"Prepare for battle." Commander Pritchard broadcasted over their channel. "Don't forget who we are and what we are fighting for. Don't try to defeat the military forces of the Silent Nomad Star Sector. Instead, focus on making space so that our ships and mechs can reach the portal!"
The portal was all that mattered!
As the alliance of independents came within range, the military garrison seemed split between deciding whether to focus on repelling the Starspawn of the outfits first.
The Defiled Gene made that decision for them as they sent a silent command that forced the Starspawn to accelerate!
The astral monsters were closing in quick, forcing the military mechs and turrets to focus their fire upon the dangerous creatures first!
"It's working!" Commander Pritchard exulted. "Keep to the flanks and push through while they are distracted!"
The defenders did not ignore the approaching outfits. Even though they diverted most of their firepower to repel the rabid Starspawn, they allocated hundreds of mechs to hinder the advance of enemy mechs and ships.
"Come forth!" She commanded her squad. "Don't spare your energy cells! Just shoot and shoot until your mech runs out!"
Her Valiant Warden flew in front of a squad of ranged mechs as they unleashed their lasers at the approaching enemy mechs. Lasers and rounds shot back at them in return, but Eloise kept absorbing the majority of the incoming firepower with her thick shield.
The Valiant Warden long lost the shield it originally carried. The Insurmountable Drakes long substituted its need for a shield with salvaged armor plating. Over the years, the mech technicians of the Drakes learned to be creative and resourceful.
In order to provide the Valiant Warden with the best form of protection, they repurposed large chunks of bulky starship armor plating! The shield they created from salvaged starship pieces were so thick and heavy and Eloise's mech lost over eighty percent of its mobility!
The Valiant Warden's average flight system strained against all of the extra mass!
However, all of that extra bulk gave the Valiant Warden an incredible capacity to block incoming fire. Lasers, rounds and missiles kept pummeling the increasingly deforming shield, yet Eloise and her Valiant Warden bore the brunt of the aggression with confidence!
It took a lot of grit and determination to face the firepower head-on without attempting to dodge them at all!
In effect, even if Eloise was piloting a medium space knight, the burden of carrying a huge slab of repurposed ship armor plating basically forced her to pilot her machine as a heavy mech!
Ves learned a lot of useful insights from her piloting style. The best part about what he learned was that they would also be applicable to his upcoming mech design. Everything he learned was directly to his ongoing design project!
The Insurmountable Drakes and the other outfits managed to make inroads into their assault. The defenders had their hands full trying to kill off the Starspawn. This split attention forced them into retreat, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time before they killed off the bulk of the Starspawn!
"It's not enough!" Eloise gritted her teeth as her shield was starting to crack and buckle under the strain.
The surface of the Valiant Warden's shield was scorching hot from all the lasers that blasted against the surface! The kinetic rounds that impacted it chipped away chunks of protective materials while missiles left deeper impact craters.
All the while, casualties mounted against the independent mechs. There were far too few space knights to cover for everyone. The vulnerable ranged mechs malfunctioned quickly after sustaining a barrage of firepower. Years of depending on salvage and makeshift repairs to keep the mechs alive left a toll on their integrity.
The structural integrity of some of these maintenance-deprived mechs was even worse than bargain bin mechs!
Despite her efforts, Eloise failed to fully shield her comrades. The Insurmountable Drakes as a whole already lost a dozen mechs, many of which incurred fatal damage so abruptly that their mech pilots didn't have the time to eject!
Commander Pritchard continued to exhort his men! "We can't die here, Drakes! Home is just around the corner! Press on and fight no matter who is standing in our way!"
The urgency of this battle continued to pressure Eloise into exerting more and more effort into shielding her comrades. However, all the coordinated firepower the military mechs poured into her direction eventually broke the Valiant Warden's shield!
"No!" She yelled. "This is not over yet! I shall not fall here!"
The Valiant Warden endured the firepower impacting its surface as best as it could, but the volume of fire was so huge that it wouldn't last for more than a minute at most!
Eloise forcibly rotated her mech so that various portions of its frame absorbed the damage. By spreading the damage around, the Valiant Warden lasted long enough to arrive in front of a wrecked mech.
The Valiant Warden utilized its strengthened hands to grip the mech hulk in its grasp.
It was using the remnants of a wrecked mech as a makeshift shield!
Through the creative use of debris on the battlefield to serve as makeshift shields, Eloise managed to keep shielding her comrades from enemy fire. Though the mechs didn't last too long, the Valiant Warden easily discarded the spent wrecks and moved on to grab a new one.
Yet as she continued to hinder the military's attempts at repelling the independent outfits, she became increasingly more concerned at how the battle progressed.
"The Starspawn are being slaughtered!" Someone yelled in an open channel. "The stupid beasts are just charging straight into the kill zones set up by the military!"
The Starspawn were usually much more cunning in battle, preferring to employ ambush attacks to surprise their prey. An open battle where they approached the enemy in a straight line prevented from blending in with the dark nebulas and areas of murky space where they could compensate for their lackluster resilience.
Right now, whenever Eloise diverted some of her attention to the decreasing number of Starspawn, she became increasingly more alarmed at how fast time was running out!
The Insurmountable Drakes only made it halfway through. They needed to cross a lot of distance before they reached the portal that led them out of the Dark Sphere, but the resistance from the military forces were already beginning to intensify!
It was increasingly harder for the Drakes and the other outfits to push the military back!
The huge space fortress alone presented the biggest obstacle of all! As long as that defensive bulwark remained to anchor the defensive forces, they had little hope that they could fight their way past it! Yet nothing in their arsenal was powerful enough to crack such an imposing fortress!
The Drakes already lost more than half of their mechs before the battle took another turn. The Defiled Gene which flew at the center of an increasingly diminishing formation of Starspawn suddenly pulsed.
The organizers of this breakout attempt enacted their Plan B in response to the faltering assault!
"What is happening?"
"Something is happening with the Starspawn! They're breaking apart!"
"Look at the dead remains! They are becoming active again!"
Two things happened at the same time.
First, the existing Starspawn all lost cohesion as their strange tissue rebelled against their bodies. No one knew what went on. For a moment, the defenders thought that the Starspawn were beginning to self-destruct.
However, the other phenomenon happening at the same time signified that much more was afoot! The carcasses of the Starspawn that the defenders took out began to show activity again as their flesh began to roil and writhe.
Eventually, the active Starspawn tissue began to clump together around the Defiled Gene, engulfing Mr. Drenad's carrier in the middle of an abhorrent ball of alien tissue!
That ball quickly grew in size as more and more Starspawn remains merged into the ball. Eventually, its shape began to diverge from an egg and took the form of the biggest Starspawn they had ever seen!
The Super Starspawn cracked open its maw and unleashed a silent roar! Even though no sound propagated in the vacuum of space, Eloise nonetheless shuddered at the monstrous sight!
The newly-emerged creature quickly began to tear into the defensive lines of the Silent Nomad military forces! No matter what the defenders threw at the giant creature, the malleable tissue quickly reformed and returned into its original state!
Even as the Insurmountable Drakes and the other outfits gleefully pressed the advantage now that the defenders were forced to confront the giant monster, their sensors began to sound the alarm.
"Starspawn are coming from behind! They're being attracted by the battle and the Super Starspawn!"
Eloise directed her attention to the Valiant Warden's sensors as she directed it to pick up another mech wreck to serve as a shield. She saw to her alarm that hundreds of Starspawn were pouring in from their rear!
Worse, this didn't appear to be the extent of the influx as the sensors of her mech kept detecting new Starspawn!
These incoming Starspawn quickly descended on the rear of the Drakes and the other outfits!
"Damnit, these Starspawn aren't under control! They're attacking every nearby target!"
Even as the Super Starspawn made good progress in breaking through the defenses of the military forces, the feral Starspawn that emerged from the rear of the attackers wreaked havoc on their mechs and ships!
Their sluggish supply ships were the first to fall! The outfits directed so much attention to the front that they weren't able to allocate enough mechs to cover their rear. Now they paid for it as their remaining supply ships all got taken down in quick succession!
Soon enough, the advancing feral Starspawn were beginning to threaten the mech carriers. If the Insurmountable Drakes lost all of their ships, then they would lose their chance to escape!
"No!" Eloise yelled as she turned around her space knight. The Valiant Warden flew back to the Stained Salamander as fast as possible while being burdened by its makeshift shield. "I must return home! My son is waiting for me! I will not fall here!"

Darkness. 

There was no moon tonight. It was impossible to see with the human eye. They could only hear the sound of the stream they were in. The cold water surrounding their bodies was dulling their feelings and souls.

These warriors came here to fight a shaman who was determined to have betrayed humanity. They prepared themselves for death. The spell of the sinful shaman had made them helpless. Warriors who could not resist the tide drowned. The trees they were trying to climb were dry. They only had to touch them to turn them into dust. At certain intervals, the sparks scattered from her body were dispersed in the clusters of fire surrounding the island on which they were. She had a long black wand that looked like a snake. She was drawing shapes in the air with this staff. Each time her drawing was completed, a snake from the smoke from the clusters of fire disappeared into the darkness of the night and returned after a while with wounded warriors.

At that moment all the warriors understood who this miraculous person was.
