One day, during one of their reading sessions, she glanced up from the pages to look at him. He was actually a very handsome young man with a slender build. His brown hair casually swept over his forehead and very strong brows framed his eyes. He had a high nose bridge that further accentuated his overall handsomeness.
"Why did you stop? The next word is very easy. Don't tell me you haven't learned anything from reading every day?" he teased her. The girl's cheeks turned into a light shade of pink and resumed her reading. She couldn't believe she was openly staring at him. Just because he was blind didn't give her the right to be rude. 
One week had already passed by in the blink of an eye. She had finished the last poem for the day and had closed the book. She looked at the book for a moment before deciding to ask a question which she had on her mind ever since starting to read this book, "I don't really understand these poems. They're so vague. One poem would be talking about flowers budding and the next would be talking about a street market. How is this your favorite book?"
He took some time to think about her question before deciding on an answer. "These poems are easy for me to relate with. You're still too young to understand."
The girl's cheek puffed out in defiance. If she was only a few years older he wouldn't treat her like such a child. 
When she returned back to her parent's book store, her parents had just placed out a familiar book on the shelves. She recognized it as the book of poems that she was reading to the young man. She quickly ran up to her mother, pointed towards the book and asked, "Mother, what is this book about?"
Her mother took the book off the shelf and took a look at the cover before replying.
"This is one of my favorites. It's a book of poems about a man's life. The poems go in order from childhood to adulthood as he recounts his memories. The poems may seem random at first, but as you reach towards the end, you begin to realize that each poem was a memory he shared with someone special, probably the one he loved. It's too bad it seems he didn't end up with his loved one."
She placed the book back on the shelf and continued her work. The girl walked away with a million thoughts in her head. Memories shared with someone he loved. It was probably about his childhood friend which had married the baron. She couldn't help but feel her heart squeeze in anguish for him.
The next couple of days as she read the poems to him, she kept in mind what her mother had told her. With finally being able to understand the poems a little bit, she began to piece together the memories in which the poems held. 
The snow melted slowly // Giving way for the missed greenery // Flowers will begin to emerge // Farmers will begin to plant // Forgetting about the cold // It's a new beginning 
This was probably when they first met.
Stones laid across the lake side // Peacefulness was the feeling // Tranquility was the sensation // A stone was thrown on the lake // Causing ripples upon surface // But despite the ripples // Peacefulness and tranquility remained
This was probably when he first realized he loved her.
Water pours over the flour // Mixed until ready to bake // The heat warms the mixture to perfection // A bite is taken from the final product // Realization comes to pass // As if water was what the flour needed all along
This was probably when she realized she loved him too.
The market sounds echo through the air // Kids are seen running around // Adults are seen shopping and bargaining // Happy faces line the streets // Time passes by // The streets slowly empty // Leaving no remaining people // In the end // A street is just a street // You are just you // I am just me // It is not a guarantee that we would meet on this street
And this was probably when she left him.

Scroll was once mentioned to have gained her ability because she always sought knowledge by reading. But what if there was also something else that could have influenced her abilities?
This is a short fan fiction of a short piece of Scroll's past when she was young and had met a man who had also loved books.

Maybe it was the cheerful atmosphere in the air, or maybe it was all the chaos drink that she had consumed throughout the night, but something inside of Scroll made her want to speak up and tell a story. 
“I’ll go next,’ Scroll spoke up after the previous story. Everyone looked at Scroll expectantly. Out of everyone here, Scroll should have the most memory to remember all her encounters and all the things she has read. Surely her story would be everything but boring.
And slowly, Scroll began to recite her story.

I'm accepted. I'm surprised. Even though I'm the top of my grade in my high school, it's a fact that public schools in general are lacking compared to those high schools for the rich. However, I know I deserve it. Even though I'm from a public high school, I've given extra effort to study and read outside the curriculum to be number 1.
I actually don't care about being number 1 in my school; I just followed Tayaw's advice. Before he went off to college, he said 'Don't just study hard for the sake of studying. Make sure that every lesson on the textbook; know how to apply them in real life.' It was hard at first. If it was how I studied before, I would just memorize things and I'm good. But when I started studying and researching on each subjects, my reading basically multiplied. 
Thankfully, knowing how to apply them to practice made the stuff I read go down easier. The amount of information I also process while studying made me realize I've become smarter. I can connect information easier, and my memory improved as well. While I reduced the time of reading, my time applying the knowledge increased.
"That's the admission letter? Congratulations man." Tayaw said when he saw the letter on my hand. He came for a visit again after coming from Italy as an acclaimed movie director. I can't believe a world famous director is still sleeping in a bunk bed in my bedroom. 
"Yeah. It sounded braggy." I said. "Well. They have the right to. That's why I chose it for you." Tayaw said. 
Instead of applying to the Preparatory High School near dad's auto shop like the family talked about, Tayaw instead had me apply at Rinowra in Ouigab. It's not a boarding school, but still one of the best private high schools in the whole Northern Teungeb.
"mm. That's good. It actually won't make a difference what you study. Just study the way you're doing, and you'll be fine." Tayaw said. He's assuring me, but I'm honestly anxious. 
"Hah. Easy for you to say. I heard they're full of snobby kids from rich families." I said. "Hey. That school is different. They only care about grades. Sure, there may be a lot of rich kids there, but if they worked hard in studying, I bet they did not have the time to learn to be snobby." Tayaw said. 
"I'm jealous of you man. You didn't study hard in high school and now, according to dad, you can now retire if you want to and go for vacation for the rest of your life. I wish I'm an author too." I said. Sincerely, but I hid it in a jesting tone. I know though that I'm not an artist like him. Writing songs, writing books, and making a movie, and I don't even know how to do them even if I'm given millions of BGCs to start. I can say for sure because since Tayaw became a famous author, I've tried writing songs and stories in my spare time. 
"Hey. Play to your strengths. You're book smart and you can apply what you learn in real life. Just look at your garden in the backyard. I would not believe you grew that from just the knowledge you read from books. Look at your old game boy, you fixed it yourself after looking it up on the internet. Not everyone can do that." Tayaw said, which consoled me.
"Strength. Is that why mom and dad don't care if Agew don't get high grades? Making good vases is his strength?" I asked. 
"Exactly. And painting stuff too. He's good with his hands.  Now. Do you like learning things?" Tayaw asked. "Yes. It was fun measuring the area of our lot, how much of it is occupied by the house, how much is spare for other stuff. You know that whe-" "Alright. The point is you're having fun doing it. As long as you're having fun doing something productive, it's good." Tayaw said and went back to fiddling with his laptop. 
Why is he always busy? He's already rich and he just finished a movie. "What are you doing?" I asked out of curiosity. "Oh. I've wrote a lot of songs, but I can't possibly perform them all. I'm writing them down to sell. " Tayaw replied. 'Possibly'? "Just how many songs have you written?" I asked. "I don't know. Thousands? I'm sorting out the best ones." He explained as if it's no big deal.
"thousands… Then that's hundreds of albums, huh?" I read on the internet that an album at least have 7 or 8 songs as long as they're 31 minutes or more combined. "No. It's not that simple. Most of them are not good enough." He said. "So aside from writing books you wrote the lyrics too? How did you write lyrics for thousands of songs?" I asked, overwhelmed by the amount of work it will take. "What? Ah. I've misspoke. The songs I'm talking about are just the music. I've not written lyrics for them yet." He said. 
Still, that's a lot of work. "I see. Is that American band the only people you've sold songs to?" "Sold-.. Yes. They're the only ones for now. Hey. How's your English by the way?" Tayaw asked me suddenly. "It's going okay, I guess. I'm listening to recorded radio shows. I'm making some simple poems to practice too." I said. Whenever I do gardening or walk to and from school, I've recently gotten into radio shows. Aside from that, I also listen to Tayaw's English songs. 
"Poems? What type of poems?" Tayaw asked, showing interest, which he usually doesn't. Now I wish I had not told him about the poems. "They're just for practice. They're not anything special." I said. "Why?" "Well, because it's not formal English. I'm just writing casual stuff to remember new words I learned." I said.
"That's good. That's good. Do you write Teungebian poems too?" He asked, thankfully not insisting. "Yeah. I use them to memorize stuff so they don't really form … coherent stories." I explained. It's fun doing them. Since elementary school, long before I studied using Tayaw's 'apply into practice' style, I always wrote poems to memorize stuff easier instead of acronyms that I always forget. "That's good. Let's say you don't have to use formal writing, and you form coherent stories, can you still write poems?" He asked. Can't he just ask if I can write actual poems?
"Yeah. I think so. I don't know if they're good though. Why?" I asked. "Well, can you let me take a look at your poems?" He brought it up again. I know he will insist or bribe. But I feel guilty whenever he bribes using stuff that are much more valuable than the simple things he wants from me. I also know he doesn't like embarrassing people, so I guess I just have to show him. "Alright." 
A minute later, *flip* *flip* *flip* "hmm… mmm.. mmhhhmm.. hmm? Hmm." basing on his expression, at least he doesn't seem to hate it. "You wanna move in my house at Ouigab?" He suddenly asked. "On August?" I asked. "On August. My bed room is large enough for two beds." He explained. So, he has a house too in Ouigab? He can afford it but he never told mom and dad he bought one. 
"Yeah? Why can't just get a spare room then?" I asked. It's a valid question. If he bought a house, then he definitely bought a large one just like the one he bought in New York. "Well. You know the band I played with in my YouTube Channel? They live with me. We make music." He explained. It makes sense now. At least I know now that he's at least not living alone. He's even living 1,2,3 …  6 people! He's living with more people than he did when he was living here. He's not lonely. 
"Alright! I'll go." I'm excited. It's only two months and I can't wait. 
"You're 16 now. Had your driver's license yet?" He asked. "YEAHP. But.. Dad doesn't allow me to drive by myself when I drive here to and from his workshop in Jebung … He gets yell-y too, but I get why." I said. "Hmm? That's a long drive. SO you're driving to his workshop now huh." He said in surprise. It is understandable. 65 kilometers, more than an hour drive on zig zags is tough. "At first, I would always feel spent. But now, I don't feel as tired." I assured, when I saw the worried look on his face. 
"Alright. Be careful. If you can drive safely without even leaving a scratch on dad's van, I may even buy you a car when you get to Ouigab." He said. I'm gob smacked. I don't even know what to say.

It's something we can't runaway from. Events that had happened. That may have gone pass but still it continues to last. In the minds of those who remember. In my case. It will forever last. Because I can never forget. The worst part is. I'm a huge overthinker so all night this is all do. Reminisce everything. Feel the joy and excitement of all those past experiences. Then the crushing agony of sadness cause it's all in the past.

After completely realizing that Ana can remember me always. I went back to my usual routine. Being a loner. Going to school. Having the same old empty feeling. My monotone days. The dull taste of life. Luckily until Christmas upto new year. Me and Ana didn't met. Which is kind of good for me yet sad. Still something happened over my holidays. My parents came to visit me as an act of obligation. Came to talk about some stuff. Ask about how my life was going. But I really didn't care much. I just give them plain answers. Replid as minimal as I can until they both got home. But as they leave there I was remembering how they both failed as parents.

Both my Mom and Dad are usually busy at work. As a kid they weren't around much. When they get home from work. We just eat together then go to sleep. Minamal conversations. Because both of them are focus on earning money. Until all of sudden fights where happening. Mom and dad arguing. Hurting each other physically and mentally. Then one day. I just found out. They both cheated on one anoter. That messed me up. Broke me into pieces rhat I haven't yet found. For many times they tried to fix their marriage. Yeah it was for me. But I couldn't care less. Because I'm already screwed up cause of them. Seeing them fight. Knowing that both of them cheated that leaves a scar on anyones mind. Yeah others can forget it and move on. But not me. I still remember it like it just had happened. So what am I supposed to do know. Act like I'm okay with them even after all those scarring moments. To me my parents are just people I have to interact with formally. They're not family to me. Because yeah I'm use to living alone.

Another thing happened on my holidays. Marie texted me. Greeted me and wanted to again meet me. Marie was my first love who hurt me. I didn't reply obviously. But fate tends to be cruel. And we met. I was sitting at a bench somewhere. Lost in my thoughts. Thinking of Ana. Staring at her picture. I kind of took a photo of her without her noticing back at the convenience store. Seems pointless because I dont want to remember her. And I clearly remember her face. But still I can't stop looking at rhis one of photo of her. I tried to delete it many times. But I just keep restoring it from the trash on my phone gallery. There it happened as I stare at Ana's picture. Marie showed up from nowhere and grabbed my phone

"Who is this? Wow she looks cute" marie said

"Why are you here?" 

"Relax I'm just passing by. Who is this anyway? You're girlfriend?" 

"Give me back my phone"

"In a minute. Tell me first who is more prettier this girl or me?" She said in ridiculing manner

"Just give me back my phone"

"Ok ok here you go" she returned my phone

"How are you anyways?" Marie aksed

"Why do you care?"

Marie is the only person I'm hostile with. Because as I look at her pain is the only thing I feel along with hatred. Like my heart is being pierced by thorns. 

"Easy don't tell me you still haven't moved on from everything" 

I didn't replied

"Hah when will you ever move on?"

"Never and leave me alone"

"Poor you. Goodluck with your life anyways if you're all grumpy like that how do you suppose that girl in the picture will even notice you"

"Shut up you dont know anything" I said angrily

"Well well like you said I dont care so I'll just leave you here fantasizing about a girl you'll never get"

"Shut up!!"

Then she walks away. After telling me all those nasty things. As she left I remember it all. Marie was my first love. When my parents got divorce. Marie comforted me in her ways. She makes me laugh. Eats with me at lunch. Walks with me home. We had a lot of moments together. But little did I know I was just being played with. But I didn't knew that at first. I dedicated my writing for Marie. I wrote many poems for her as gift. A token of my appreciation for making me happy always. Then as I was about to give it. I overheard everything. How I'm just part of their stupid games. But at first I didn't care about it. I was blinded by my feelings so I followed her and didn't believed what I heard. I gave her my poems and she seemed to appreciate it. But after that we didn't hang out much. Sometimes I see her with another guy. Laughing and walking together like we used to. Then sometimes she would go to me. Its like I'm an option when its convenient. A toy she can go back to anytime when she's feeling bored. But since I was stupid back then I was ok with that toxic set up. Until I saw it. In a trash can. The poems I worked so hard for tossed in the garbage like it was nothing. That is when I decided to walk away. My social anxiety started and I stopped caring. Still many more people betrayed me after her. But that's a story that I dont want to tell.

So that is my past and now here I am at school. Going with my life. Not knowing where can I actually meet Ana again. After class I got a text from an unknown number. Saying.

"Go to this hospital"

I thought it was the wrong number. Then it texted again

"Its me John hurry. Its about Ana"

My world suddenly stopped. I hurried to the hospital. My mind wasn't thinking straight. All I am is worried right now on what happened. All the possibilities are running through my head and the only way to find out what really happened is to go to her. When I arrive at the hospital. Ana's parents was there. Asking me.

"Are you Joseph?"

I dont know how they know my name.

"Yes ma'am"

"Hello we are Ana's parents. Sorry for asking John to text you to get here."

By the look on her parents. Its not good. Something bad is happening I can read it through their eyes and its in the atmosphere.

"Its fine what happened?"

"We dont know. Ana just woke up yesterday. Having a headache that was supposed to be normal. But afterwards she forgets who we are then she collapsed"

That must have been painful for them. Their daughter forgetting who they are. Seeing her at that state must have hurt them a lot 

"How is she doing know?"

"Still haven't gain consciousness. The doctor said that after Ana wakes up. There's a high possibility that she wont remember anything at all"

Her mother was trying to stop being emotional. Then I asked

"Its ok. Let's just hope Ana remembers us. By the way how come you know about me?"

"Ana talks about you most of the time. About a guy who's good at poems. A guy who moved her with his words. There's something about you that makes Ana's day different. She becomes more talkative. And remembers more about her day. But when we ask her about you're name. She forgets and not remember what we we're talking about. That's why we asked John and said it was you."

So Ana still remembers me at times.

"Then why you call me here?"

"Cause we think that you deserve to know what happened with Ana. You see Ana got into an accident when she was 7 years old. A lot has happened since then. She experience bullying and kids where to mean her. She used to cry a lot for a while. Then settles down after forgetting the reason why she is crying. Ana's short term memory loss is unpredictable. So as her mood and emotions. But still Ana is a cheerful girl. It breaks our hearts that all the new wonderful people she's meeting she can't remember them. Just like you."

They furthen explain everything. Then afterwards I asked them if I could go see Ana. So I went in her room. Looked at her. Her parents went outside to give me time. I didn't know what to actually do. What to say. Does she can even hear me. Then a flash of inspiration hits and I see myself subconsciously reciting a poem for her.

"Get well

Here I am wondering
Thinking
Hoping
Reminiscing everything

Maybe after all of this is over
You and me can once again be together
Its fine if you dont remember
All the times we had with one another

I'll keep carrying all our memories
Telling them to you as stories
Helping you feel ease
As we somewhat reminisce

Every single moment
Yeah everyday with you is different
But still my time will be always well spent
Because being you feels different

That's why even if you can't always tell
I know that maybe in your heart my poems dwell
And maybe someday me as well
Ana please get well"

"Hello we are Ana's parents. Sorry for asking John to text you to get here." 

By the look on her parents. Its not good. Something bad is happening I can read it through their eyes and its in the atmosphere. 

"Its fine what happened?" 

"We dont know. Ana just woke up yesterday. Having a headache that was supposed to be normal. But afterwards she forgets who we are then she collapsed" 

That must have been painful for them. Their daughter forgetting who they are. Seeing her at that state must have hurt them a lot 

"How is she doing know?" 

"Still haven't gain consciousness. The doctor said that after Ana wakes up. There's a high possibility that she wont remember anything at all" 

Her mother was trying to stop being emotional. Then I asked 

"Its ok. Let's just hope Ana remembers us. By the way how come you know about me?" 

"Ana talks about you most of the time. About a guy who's good at poems. A guy who moved her with his words. There's something about you that makes Ana's day different. She becomes more talkative. And remembers more about her day. But when we ask her about you're name. She forgets and not remember what we we're talking about. That's why we asked John and said it was you." 

So Ana still remembers me at times. 

"Then why you call me here?" 

"Cause we think that you deserve to know what happened with Ana. You see Ana got into an accident when she was 7 years old. A lot has happened since then. She experience bullying and kids where to mean her. She used to cry a lot for a while. Then settles down after forgetting the reason why she is crying. Ana's short term memory loss is unpredictable. So as her mood and emotions. But still Ana is a cheerful girl. It breaks our hearts that all the new wonderful people she's meeting she can't remember them. Just like you." 

They furthen explain everything. Then afterwards I asked them if I could go see Ana. So I went in her room. Looked at her. Her parents went outside to give me time. I didn't know what to actually do. What to say. Does she can even hear me. Then a flash of inspiration hits and I see myself subconsciously reciting a poem for her. 

"Get well 

Here I am wondering 

Thinking 

Hoping 

Reminiscing everything 

Maybe after all of this is over 

You and me can once again be together 

Its fine if you dont remember 

All the times we had with one another 

I'll keep carrying all our memories 

Telling them to you as stories 

Helping you feel ease 

As we somewhat reminisce 

Every single moment 

Yeah everyday with you is different 

But still my time will be always well spent 

Because being you feels different 

That's why even if you can't always tell 

I know that maybe in your heart my poems dwell 

And maybe someday me as well

I stopped myself from crying. I just held her hand for a while. Then I saw it. Maybe she heard me. There is a tear in her eyes. I just kept sitting there. Staring at her. Looking at her face. Hurting a little bit. Because once again. I seen her in a sight that I dont want to see. That's why Ana please wake up. Then after I'll once again introduce myself. Again and again. I'm Joseph. Let's start a new. Create more memories that I promise to keep for us. Because Ana it doesn't matter what happens in the past. Cause if I could spent another moment with you. Even you don't remember me. Still it will make me happy. You may always forget me. But I will always remember you. You and everything that has happened in our past.

This novella is quick, sweet romance. Kate was with her boyfriend for two years in a dead end relationship. A chance sighting at a job interview places Kate at her dream job and in the presence of her future. She meets Ernst who is seemingly living a double life. Fate draws them together for a HEA. The story was told from a third party point of view. It was very descriptive and the plot was clear and easy to follow. While you knew the plot and where it was going, at times the wording was very stilted, which could lead to some confusion when reading. This also made it difficult for me to connect with the characters and truly invest in the story.

A prompt from Byron to write a ghost story, she considered
Morning after morning when all she replied with a negative
It was from one of her wakeful nights, a story she would give

She saw her ghost fable in front of her eyes, with signs of life
She was frightened and spent the night in uneasy wakerife
She began writing her dream and it became "Frankenstein"
She realised that she had stepped out from childhood wherein


When two of her children met with unexpected death
She turned to writing, weeping and holding her breath
She channelled her thoughts on her political freedom

Li Xiao Bai's expectations were not disappointed.
After his recital, three more people stepped up.
One was a strong man wearing a golden mask, he was shining in a glaring golden light.
There was an old man wearing a cone hat, he was holding a cane as a green light moved around him.
There was also a woman, she had a slim body and wore a pink dress, her face was covered by a veil, after her recital, butterflies flew around her, it was a beautiful sight.
These three had created famed poems on the same level as Li Xiao Bai's moonlit night.
Li Xiao Bai let out a sigh of relief: "This world has Gu worms to assist with poem creation. Gu Masters are also able to extend their lifespan and gain more experience in life. Thus, famed poems are more likely to appear than on Earth."
On Earth, moonlit night was a rare creation. But in Profound Literature grotto-heaven, it would not be unmatched.
Including Li Xiao Bai, the four of them had their own territory as they looked at each other.
The strong man, old man, and woman placed their gazes on Li Xiao Bai.
They knew each other, they had some sort of understanding towards their works, but Li Xiao Bai was a newcomer.
"Who is this young man?"
"His talent qi is not dense, how can he create such a famed poem?"
"Hehe, interesting guy."
Li Xiao Bai's teacher, Teacher Jiang, also saw his student's performance. He nodded in satisfaction: "Very good, Li Xiao Bai, it seems you are performing well today. Continue working hard."
In the end, no accidents happened, Li Xiao Bai moved to the next round and was teleported away.
After he regained his senses, he arrived in another arena.
"This is the fifth round, scholars, please wait patiently." Li Xiao Bai heard a voice in his mind.
Li Xiao Bai understood at once: "So the advancement has differences as well. The poem I made is enough to pass three rounds and directly reach the fifth round."
"This is quite a logical rule."
"But this means that the Gu Masters who reached this round are all people who created famed poems. Only half of these people can pass, the pressure has intensified now."
Li Xiao Bai looked around, he found two familiar faces.
It was the strong man and the woman from earlier.
After noticing Li Xiao Bai's gaze, the woman nodded at him, she seemed to be smiling under the veil. Meanwhile, the strong man had an air of arrogance, after giving Li Xiao Bai a glance, he started to shut his eyes and meditate.
In the fifth round, there was only the three of them now.
"I wonder which round that old man went to."
"I should pretend to rest now."
When scholars made poems, they had to think with all their effort, but he only had to select a suitable poem for his use. This was too easy, he had to conceal the fact.
After waiting for several minutes in the fifth round arena, the second competition began.
He had more than twenty competitors, Li Xiao Bai felt a certain level of pressure in his heart.
The theme of the second competition was out — Travel, the time limit was the same as before.
"Travel? This question is the same as spring, it is so broad and easy to write, but creating a famed poem will be very hard!" The strong man sighed to himself.
The woman was thinking: "I am not well versed in this, what should I do?"
Li Xiao Bai was also contemplating: "Which poem do I copy?"
After thinking for a while, he felt that he could not use a classic poem, the effect would be too overwhelming, but he could not use a bad poem. Otherwise, he would fail to advance and be kicked back to the previous round.
Li Xiao Bai was a little troubled, it was not easy to gauge this situation.

Li Xiao Bai sighed to himself, thinking: "It seems that famed poems are not easy to create, these people did well in the first round but currently, they are only performing at an average level."
Li Xiao Bai soon had an idea of the situation but he did not start working, he was still waiting.
As the time limit was about to be up, he finally saw some famed poems.
One from the strong man.
He recited a poem with great battle intent, resembling the march of horses and spears, his entire body was flickering with golden light, one could hear the clash of spears and blades.
The second famed poem came from the woman.
She created a gentle poem, describing a young lady looking outside her room's window, listening to the stories of travelers outside, imagining her own travel journey, it was quite impressive.
"Alright, it is my turn now." Li Xiao Bai coughed as he recited:
Date flowers fall on the villagers' clothes, 
The sound of reeling carts heard from every household, 
Old men dressed in simple clothes sell cucumbers under the willow tree. 
Feeling drunk and drowsy from the long journey, 
The bright sun makes my throat dry, I thirst for a refreshing drink, 
I knock on the door of a mortal house, hoping to request for some tea.
He had copied Su Shi's Silk-washing Stream.
After the recital, be it the strong man or the woman, they were evidently moved as they analyzed the poem.
"Good poem! This poem starts with description of the scenery and actions at the back, with the fusion of both, one can feel interested in the event."
"Even though he is writing about a scenery, he uses his voice to create an image, compared to normal descriptions, this is very vivid. The emotional part is also very interesting. This kid might be a Gu Master but he is very polite and courteous, he does not barge into a mortal's house, he is truly a gentleman and has incomparable elegance."
"Reading his poem shows his nature. This young scholar is really promising!"
The surrounding scholars looked at Li Xiao Bai with a different gaze now.
Li Xiao Bai let out a breath of air, pretending that he was extremely exhausted.
"After this round, I should be able to advance. Not just that, my performance was really good, I did not gain too much attention but I also did not show inability."
Li Xiao Bai was quite satisfied with himself, after waiting for a while, the time limit was up.
He became stunned.
Most scholars failed to create a poem.
"This is the world poetry competition, I need to display my best abilities. If I use any inferior work, it will be too shameful."
"I did my best but could not create a satisfactory poem, even if I fail, I will not regret it!"
"This trip was worth my time, I got to hear three famed poems."
"Haha, in the worst case scenario, I might fall to the first round, so what? Goodbye!"
Those scholars that did not create a poem left in a carefree manner, while those scholars who made inferior poems showed shameful expressions.
Li Xiao Bai was calm on the outside but internally flummoxed: "How can you guys act so graciously?"
Even though he advanced, he had gained too much attention again. Earlier, he was quite satisfied with the situation, but to think these scholars would be so useless.
"Hmph, I had overestimated them." Li Xiao Bai thought.
There was nothing to say, he successfully advanced to the ninth round.
After patiently waiting for a while, the people gathered. This time, there was less than ten of them.
Many of them were famous scholars, they knew each other and greeted politely, they were calm and elegant on the outside, but were all feeling nervous internally.
At this point, the pressure of these competitors intensified again.
"I need to be stable, I cannot create a commotion again!" Li Xiao Bai clenched his fists, he kept reminding himself.
But this time, his opponents all performed well, more than half of the Gu Masters created famed poems.
Li Xiao Bai was the last one left.
Li Xiao Bai had a nervous expression but he was calm internally, he recited the poem that he had already prepared in advance.
With some flickering light, his cultivation level rose to rank four, he gained a new Gu worm.
This time, he planned meticulously, the poem he created was just borderline in the middle, he managed to advance successfully but he was at the bottom of the batch.
Right when Li Xiao Bai was feeling happy.
Cough!
Someone coughed out a mouthful of blood.

Someone fainted on the ground.
The strong man shook as he sat down with difficulty. The woman coughed for a long time with a pale expression.
Only Li Xiao Bai was left standing on the spot, unaffected.
At once, everyone's gazes were on him again.
"This young man is very strong! Currently speaking, he has already created three famed poems."
"He did not get injured at all, it seems that he had not gone all out when he made his poem earlier."

We had shifted our house and here it feels boring, there are no kids in this cross, that we know and it is very boring spending the last few days of your summer vacation fighting with your sibling. Ameya is turning more stubborn and unruly and mom is least concerned about this. She has a smart mouth, not smart, over smart mouth. And I hate people who are over smart, can't help she is my sister.
If you ask me about my relationship with dad it had never been this worse, he keeps on barking and I am least bothered about it, but it hurts a lot, I have been crying every day before sleep, I have nightmares. I dreamed about me being killed by my dad.
I felt him holding my neck and drowning me underwater, I felt breathless, helpless, I wasn't able to wake up from the dream, I was sweating. My dad became a reason for my sleepless nights.
The next day he asked me what I had dreamt about and why I was crying? I lied, I told my dad that I didn't remember anything.
I thought that would hurt my dad, was it worth it? Me being concerned about what he will feel when he doesn't think twice before spatting hurtful words?
Yesterday he called me a bastard, if I was a bastard what was he? A bastards' dad? I wanted to say that out loud but I didn't dare to.
More than desperation what filled my heart was fear, I was feared by my dad who was one of the reasons I was here.
Everybody says I look like my dad, I wanted to deny that, I never wanted to become like him, neither by looks nor by attitude.
If this was told to me when I was ten, I would be happy that I look like my dad. I was my daddy's princess back then now I am my daddy's bastard.
How ironic is it?
Now that I look back I was blinded, he never was the dad that I thought that he was. I could hear him abusing my mom mentally when I was three. I didn't notice that because it was an everyday happening, now when it was directed to me that is why I can notice it.
Why did dad like boys more than girls? Do boys have horns? Or an extra tail? What was so special about being a guy?
Now that she thought about it, boys were luckier than girls. They are not judged by the clothes they wear, they can safely go out at nights, they didn't have to leave their parents after marriage, they didn't have to do house chores.
How she wished she was a guy, believe it or not, I have never gone to any of my friend's house except for Athena's and Adwaith's. Because they shared the same language and were neighbours for almost four years her parents allowed her to go to their house only on Sunday's that too if her dad agrees.
Girls always had a lack of freedom compared to boys.
This new house is smaller compared to our previous one, this belongs to a very far away relative of ours. It's very difficult to define the relationship between the house owner and us. It's complicated.
We don't have a home of our own if you ask me why? Dad is not interested, he thinks there will be a day when money flows into our house, which is not happening soon. Mom has been pestering dad on this but he just shoos her away.
I was least concerned about this I just needed a roof to live whether it's my own or not. Maybe I had inherited this from dad.
As the school was about to open my dad pushed me into studies, the same branded books which we received last year. Can't they at least change the style of the textbooks, the maths text was as thick as my thighs, how am I going to pass this year?
I opened my English literature text the only subject I was interested in. From last year subjects were divided for us.
Science became - Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Maths became - Arithmetic, Geometry and Algebra.
Social was - Geography, History and Civics.
This is the reason why Indians thought studying in ICSE school was great. Here kids are tortured from a young age. At the age of 11, we had 13 subjects to learn namely, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Hindi, Kannada, English Language, English Literature, Geography, History and Civics, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, subjects like Computers, Gk, yoga and Moral science existed but for namesake, nobody in the school even studies those subjects.
I loved English literature, when I read stories and poems, I imagine the scenes simultaneously. I had written a story when I was ten, 'Goddess of the Moon', was its name. I had taken the story written sheets to my native only to lose it there, after that I never continued it. I had started writing songs when I was seven, my first written song was named 'Lollipop', the song was a conversation between a little girl and a lollipop, it was more like a poem. I had been greatly inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson, we had to learn his poems from our textbook.
His poems were for kids and made my imagination broad, you can rarely see kids interested in books these days but I was an exception. Reading books brought me joy and I have never read stories apart from the ones from my textbook.
Even though I had asked my parents to buy me some they never did, I didn't understand what their problem was. 
Was it because they didn't want to see me happy?

Seeing Xu Que reply so quickly with such good answers for the couplets, the students were all appalled.
Even Tang Liu Feng was taken aback. He knew that this brother Li Bai was exceptional when it came to poems. He never would’ve expected him to be equally good at couplets. In fact, his reply was so outstanding, it was an excellent come back.
Madam Ya’s eyes revealed a look of elation once more. Xu Que had proven that he was at the pinnacle of poem recital. At this point, she realized that she had never met someone more talented than him!
Young master Zhao’s expression turned cold, knowing that he’s met a good match. His voice turned cold as he hurriedly voiced out a reply, "Miracles and coincidences, a pair and a couple. The great sea meets the great river, gold plates meet jade trays. A precious candle opposes the silver bowl."
 
Everyone around opened their wides wide open. Young master Zhao could even continue from where Li Bai had left off? That was unthinkable, for it seemed like young master Li Bai had the final say earlier.
It looked like young master Zhao was resolved to compete with this young master Li, and determine today who was the better student in couplets.
Hence, the gaze of the students flickered towards Xu Que, waiting to see if this crazed Li Bai was able to take this couplet up another notch.
Xu Que’s lips parted into a smile. He felt like this couplet wasn’t difficult at all, and he could keep going on and on. He waved his bottle of beer before replying, "Red and white, something and nothing. The cuckoo faces the pelican, wool faces the feather. The heavenly watchtower opposes the Imperial City."
The faces of the crowd turned to shock once more.
In such a short span of time, Xu Que was once again able to produce a logical and flawless reply. He became evident that his prowess in couplets weren’t inferior to young master Zhao at all!
Young master Zhao was clearly anxious as he stood up, "Doors and households, foreigners and empty streets. Twigs faces stems,fighting cocks face eager stags. Phoenix defies the falcon."
Xu Que remained calm and composed as he blew another smoke ring towards Madma Ya as he smiled and replied, "Diligence and frugality, skill and obedience. Water pavilions faces the mountain ridges, frozen peaches faces icy roots. An arrow defies the target."

The pair of them didn’t give a hint of slowing down as the competition between both of them intensified.
The crowd watched on in astonishment. Even the student who had kicked off the couplets discussion looked crestfallen. He didn’t expect the phrase he gave to be replied countless of times effortlessly, for he had initially thought that nobody would manage a good reply.
A normal student would find it exceptionally hard to think of a good and logical reply to this couplet. And yet the pair of them were rattling off answers one after another. There was no pause to it. This caused them to sigh out, after being made acutely aware of their differences in talent. Why were they so much more talented than themselves?
Madam Ya’s face turned red and hot once again as her legs started to cramp up. Her body was trembling slightly as she looked at Xu Que and young mister Zhao like a wolf ready to devour her prey. She was especially shaken when Xu Que blew the smoke ring towards her. How could such a talented student be so charismatic as well?
At this point, it was hard to tell who has the upper hand after the continuous back and forth between the pair of them.
At last, Young master Zhao laughed out, "It’s just that the starting line is too easy, with the topic being so broad. How about I issue a new couplet. Would you dare to attempt to match it?"
As soon as these words were spoken, the entire hall was shaken!
Young master Zhao was going to take the offensive? My god. This was such a occurrence. After being a student for so many years here in the Imperial City, nobody had ever seen young master Zhao giving the opening set of couplets. And today he was going to issue the first lines?
All the students were filled with excitement and anticipation.
"Pa da!"
Xu Que flicked the cigarette butt, which he had just finished smoking, out into the rain. He then stepped into the hall and laughed out, "Why shouldn’t I dare? When I was three years old, I was composing poems about rivers and history. When I was five, I was writing poems so long that they resembled seas. When I was ten, the subject of my writings were no longer limited, and I was writing about everything under the sun, including grass, rocks, trees. I was nicknamed Dui Chuan Chang, but was refer to myself as the little scholar!"
(T/N : Dui Chuan Chang was the name of Tang Bo Hu’s opponent while they were competing in couplets)
"...." The crowd felt their vision went black as they almost fell backwards!
Damn it, why was this phrase so familiar?
"What ignorance!" Young master Zhao laughed out.
Xu Que replied, "Such oddity!"
"Gulp….." The student‘s expressions fell. What was going on, they were even coupling their insults?
Young master Zhao revealed a mocking smile as he spoke out, "In one village within two miles were three men. They didn’t know anything about the Four Classics and Five Books. Yet they had the audacity to teach seven, eight and nine kids. That’s ten tragedies!"
"Fantastic! Young master Zhao had just given a brilliant first half of the couplet, which would be impossible to match!" The students cheered, knowing that this couplet was an attempt to mock Li Bai!"
Indeed, Xu Que shook his head, "In ten rooms, nine students within were poor. They were left with eight notes, seven coins and six shillings unable to spare anything for five or four people. They weren’t third class citizens or even second class humans. They were first class beggars!"
"Hsss!"
The crowd sucked in a deep breath of fresh air. Forget the fact that this kid was able to come up with such a good comeback within a short amount of time. He even managed to subtly insinuate that young master Zhao was a first class beggar!
Young master Zhao’s face was enraged beyond measure as he continued, "Within a painting, the dragon doesn’t growl and the tiger doesn’t roar. This little scholar is such a joke!"

This line was clearly to taunt Xu Que for calling himself the little scholar!
Xu Que heard this and replied, "On the chessboard, the car can move without wheels and the horses can run without ropes. Tell the general to be cautious to be cautious!"
"Warblers and swallows, green and red flowers, live in perfect harmony!" Young master Zhao’s eyes squinted in determination as the anger within his heart swelled. He had been in Imperial City for so many years, and had never met a tougher opponent than this.
Xu Que replied effortlessly, "Wind and rain, flowers and leaves, grow with the seasons!"
"Ten minds are deep in thought, thinking for the nation!" Young master Zhao raised yet another topic!
Xu Que’s lips curled, "Eight eyes for admiring autumn nature in full bloom!"
(T/N : Eight eyes for admiring Qiu Ya in full bloom!")
As soon as his words landed, the audience burst out in cheers.
"That was amazing!" Many students had witnessed the brilliance of both of them and shouted out in enjoyment.
"This the the first time in my life I’ve ever witnessed such a fierce battle!"
"It’s really a feast for the eyes!"
...
Madam Ya’s delicate body trembled as her face blushed a deep shade of red. She looked at Xu Que in amazement.
Everyone knew her as Madam Ya, but very few people knew that her actual name was Qiu Ya!
Xu Que’s phrase which said "Eight eyes for admiring Qiu Ya" caused her to feel rather uneasy and suspicious. Could this young mister Li have known her name, and said this intentionally?

At this point, young master Zhao’s face froze as he shouted out, "I am a high class, awe-inspiring student showing the bravery of a tiger."
Xu Que squinted, "You’re a low class prostitute, showing half of your turtle head prodding out of your shell."
"You’re outrageous!" Young master Zhao couldn’t hold it in any longer and lashed out!
"I’m daring!" Xu Que actually took this scolded as a couplet and answered as if they were still in competition, his face was filled with glee.
Young master Zhao’s face swelled red, as veins bulged out on his forehead and neck. He then pointed at Xu Que and continued scolding, "I was talking about couplets, but you dared to verbally assault me?"
"You’re just a pig head, I didn’t overestimate you!"
"We’re no longer speaking couplets!" Young master Zhao was so angry he was about to go crazy.
Xu Que laughed, "We’re still talking about poems!"
...
The group of students were stumped. The leader of the four great students was actually so furious he was about to implode?
Mo Yun Shan’s face was filled with dread and shock as well.
Only Madam Ya’s expression was filled with awe. She was somewhat surprised that Li Bai had managed to defeat young mister Zhao when it came to couplets.
From what she could tell, this Li Bai was intentionally agitating young mister Zhao, and was clearly succeeding. Comparing the pair of them, it was obvious that Li Bai was the more mature, stable and composed student, probably also because he was older than the rest of the students.
Thinking about this, Madam Ya couldn’t help but reveal a laughter as she whispered, "Looks like age and experience really matters!"
These words were actually her thoughts, and she didn’t mean to speak them out. At this point, everyone heard her and was taken aback.
Xu Que, who was still in the zone for matching couplets turned around and replied without hesitation, "When it comes to chests, yours are truly tankers!"
The entire hall descended into absolute silence!


I am the best when it comes to taking divergent paths. With just a flip of my hand, I shall take the path less commonly travelled. I search far and wide, only to find myself unbeatable and unrivaled. So now I ask, who else can match my awesomeness? 

Acting tough is second nature to me and I am a lone wolf.
 
The road is long and winding but I shan’t feel lonely as long as I am able to act tough!


Life and death bore me and I do whatever I deem fit.

“Young man, way back when I started acting tough, you were still learning how to put on your underpants!” Xu Que thus decided to take the path of acting tough. He decided to act tough every single god-damned day. If he wasn’t acting tough, he was scheming for the best way to act tough!
