Waking up under bizarre circumstances, I live as I please. This is the story of how my new life began in the Dragon Ball Universe.

Pirates. Of course there would be pirates. And a lot of them. Kozimer isn't technically holding anything of value, but his ship is unfortunately advanced and very desirable.
The realization that it also holds the brain of the most AI system there is sends a cold finger of dread crawling down Kozimer's spine. James as he is, is technically useless. He's willful and stubborn and has a habit of not taking orders while doing what he wants.
But he's capable of hacking into anything that he comes across, has shown the ability to take over ship processes, and can control hardware on the ship.
With a few wipes and reboots...if they completely erased his personality...
Kozimer shudders violently and tries to pull himself up. There are four bodies around him, but there happened to be seven pirates and it only took one putting a piece of shrapnel between Kozimer's ribs to bring him down. He wheezes and tries not to cough up blood as he glares at the three pirates plotting nearby.
"There isn't....isn't anything here-"
"Pipe down," a particularly large pirate growls, "we already know you're hiding someone. Now go and bleed out quietly."
Hiding someone?
"Wh-...what?" He croaks. James is thankfully silent. Though this is probably thanks to the quick override Kozimer did that threw the AI into standby mode. He couldn't let them find James, couldn't let them try and take him.
He is certainly going to get yelled at later for that, if he survives this. That is looking less and less likely though, he thinks, as he coughs wetly. "There isn't-"

"I said shut up! We've got the damn reading on our scanner so you can stop tryin to hide em!." The pirate turns to his companion whose scowling intently at a small screen. "Well?? Where're they hidin? This bastard's denying it so I'm thinkin it's someone important."

Pirate three cackles and looks over at the scanner. "Ah! Gottem! Cargo bay. The shit's probably trying to hide in the supplies."
Kozimer frowns, feeling lightheaded, and he's sure he's missing something here. "But..."
"Look, if y'aint bled out by the time we get your friend then we're just gonna put a shot through your skull anyway, so best sit nicely and go to sleep like a good bastard."
The three laugh like the man just told a particularly good joke and stride out. Kozimer falls back against the wall, wincing as he clutches at the piece of metal sticking out of his side. He can feel his own blood pulsing out between his fingers, slick and hot and if he had enough energy he'd feel sick.
"I can't believe I'm getting killed by pirates." He mutters. There's a blaring sound, pounding against his head and it takes him a few minutes to recognize that it's an alarm. The ship's actual AI comes on, the monotonous and generic female voice is garish after so many months of James's cheerful teasing.
"Warning, evacuate cargo. Warning, life support lost in cargo bay. Evacuate immediately."
He blinks slowly, trying to think past the thick fog in his brain. "Wha-"
"Stop, ok just stop um, ok stop what you're doing I have the med droid on the way ok, Koz?" James, that is definitely James's voice. And It's definitely preferable to that horrible tinny woman who-...and wait...
"How are you on?"
"Oh we are having a TALK about that later but right now just, you need to stop leaking ok?"

"It's called bleeding." Kozimer says distantly. He coughs again and groans when the metal shifts in him.

"You're broken and fluid is coming ok!" James is sounding close to panicked. He's getting very, very good at mimicking emotion. "That's leaking! And there's a lot and you need to stop ok you need to stop it because the med droid is on the way I swear Koz it'll be there soon."

"What-" Koz winces, seeing stars against the backs of his eyelids. "What happened to the pirates?"

"They're currently freezing to death because I cut off life support to the cargo bay they're locked in and who cares?"

"You killed them?" He should be more concerned by that then he is. Though he supposes that he killed four of them so James isn't all that bad.

"Yes I killed them! Who cares!?"

"Oh..." He needs to have a talk with James about casual killing. That's an important thing to establish. But he's having trouble remembering how words work and the room is slowly going black and grey. 

"Hey hey no! No come on! Talk to me, the droid's almost there! Come on Koz! Um, what are we gonna do when we're done?"

He frowns, that's an odd question. "What?"

"The mission!" James's voice is higher than normal, and it's shaking oddly. "When you're done with it! I mean you can't leave me here, right? So what'll you do? Just tell me that until medical gets there ok?"

He hadn't really thought about that. He has grown so used to James's voice chattering at him that he hadn't thought about what he would do LATER. "I...I'll get you a body." Kozimer blinks, suprised at his own answer, but...now that he thinks about it.

Really that's the best plan.

"You'll what?" James's voice gets an odd hitch in it, like he's confused and doesn't really believe it. Can mimicry do that? But AI's only mimic...

"Get you a body." Koz repeats. His own voice is oddly wet sounding, it's coming out as a thin rasp and he's very, very glad that he's going numb. It's a lovely change from all the agony before.

"You mean like a robot?"

Kozimer takes a few minutes to process the question. "No. No, robots are r-rubbish. I mean there's..." He coughs, wincing, "there are bio-engineered bodies. Mostly used by the obscenely rich to give themselves a young new body to play in. It's a mix of robotic and biological, but works like a real body. I-It's v-very easy to download any system into one. Some people load AI's into them to use like a maid service." He has to pause to take a few deep breaths, biting down a sound when the shrapnel grinds against his ribs. "And fortunately for you, I have connections."

"I...wow really?"

"Promise." His breath is a soaked rasp and he can see the room blurring. "I think I'm dying." He says casually.

"No! No you can't, you promised, ok! You can't shut down just stay on! Stay on, see! See, the droid is right there, you'll be ok!"

He's distantly aware of a whirring sound and the cool blast of the med-patch hitting him. "I probably....shouldn't make promises while I'm dying. Not...not my smartest move."

The last thing he hears before waking up days later in the medical bay is James's enraged "You are not dying! You can't!"

It's been nearly three days (give or take, time was difficult to track) since the pirate attack and Kozimer is about to go insane.

The wound in his side is mostly healed. The shrapnel and the force that had been used to put it through his side had broken a rib, dislocated another one, and punched right into his lung, but fortunately by the time he woke up most of that was taken care of. He was left to deal with the fatigue from blood loss and the sore ache in his side as his ribs finished stitching themselves back together. 

He also has to deal with James.

"Are you alright? Did your rib fracture again? I saw you wince!"

Kozimer sighs and bites back another wince when the deep breath pulls at his side. "James, I'm fine."

James had been hovering, as much as a non-physical virtual being could hover, ever since Kozimer woke up. If Kozimer coughed, James was pulling up the data on the possibility of an infection. If he moved too much, James would explain in detail how easy it would be to dislocate his rib again. When he went to bed, he woke up with medical scanners running over him and an ongoing log of his vitals on the mainscreen.

It stopped being flattering by the second day.
"Are you sure? You should rest again. You lost a LOT of fluid and I've read that sleep is a great way to replenish-"

Kozimer slams a hand down on the console in front of him, "James!" He clenches his fist, takes a deep breath, tries to calm down and fails, "I appreciate the concern, really, but you're acting like an overbearing mother and I managed to get away from the original decades ago. I don't need a round two."

"Like a what?"

He groans and rubs at his temples, "Nevermind, that's not a conversation I feel like having right now."

"Oh, that's the female needed to make a new meatbag right?"

"Why can't you say 'organic' like all the other computers?"

"Stop changing the subject!" James snaps.

"Stop babying me!" Kozimer growls.
"If you actually took care-"

He's having an argument with his software. Again. A lot of people yell at their computer, it just usually doesn't yell back. "WHY are you so concerned about this all of a sudden? I'm getting better! There was hardly any blood anyway!"

"It was almost more than two pints!" James's voice nearly goes up an octave and Kozimer is outright impressed at how well James is using inflection, "You could have actually died!"

"I didn't die." Kozimer points out. "And I've had worse than that anyway. It's fine, James."

"No it's not!" James yells. "It's not fine!"

"James-"

"You could die!" James talks over him, "Anything can kill you! Anything!"

"James you're exaggerating-"

"Am I!?" James's voice hitches again, it's an odd sound, since it has nothing to do with how James is breathing. "Right now you could get an infection from a drop of blood that got left in your lungs and you could die from that, you could move wrong and your rib could break and puncture your lung again making you choke before the droid could get to you! At any time you could fall and hit your head, or there could be a malfunction and an electrical fire, the mainboard could overheat and explode, did you know it could do that!? It could go off and take your head off or a couple limbs! Or some pebble sized rock could hit the ship and cause a minor breach that would crumple the whole thing! Did you know that there is one spot on the outside of the ship that, if hit right and barely punched through, would take out all the life support?!"

"James-"

"And you keep visiting new planets with new diseases! Or someone could kill you like the pirates almost did! And they were so easy to kill, they froze within minutes, and that can happen to you!"

"And you could have a bad run in with a magnet!" Kozimer snarls, "So we're on even footing!"

"No we're not! You're stupidly breakable and you keep putting yourself in the way of things that can break you! I- I feel like I just need to-to lock you up in a padded room and make sure nothing happens!"

"James..." Kozimer says slowly, "if you do that then you're guaranteed to kill me."

"Hey! I could take care of you!"
Kozimer breathes in slowly, taps his fingers against each other while he thinks of how best to approach this. This...is going in a dangerous direction. He needs to find the best way to diffuse this without worrying about being kidnapped by an overprotective computer. "James, I'm sure you could do a splendid job. But I would die in there. I need this, I need to do things. Do you understand James?"

"But-"

"What if I cut off all of your online access? I could lock you away in a hard drive and make sure no one could tamper with you. I could put you in standby like I did when the pirates came and then keep you there. I can't let anything happen to you, but I know that you wouldn't be able to handle being locked up."

"...that's why you put me on standby? Why would you be worried?"

Kozimer runs a hand over his face, he tries to remind himself that this is a computer. This is a line of code. He shouldn't have to be reassuring a program. 

It gets more difficult to remember by the day.

"James, you are extraordinary. You're probably the most advanced piece of technology I've witnessed and I can't even take the credit, you practically wrote yourself. In the wrong hands you would be a terrible weapon, but to make you one they'd have to take out all the things that make you what you are. You're a stubborn, cheeky, willful and infuriating brat, and I can't let anyone try to change that.

"And I'm the only person you know, James." Kozimer continues with a sigh, "Technically I'm the only life you know. You're just over protective because you haven't seen anything else. It'll get better when you meet more people. You just need to see more of the universe and you'll stop worrying over just me so much. It'll get easier for you."

James goes quiet, absorbing the new bit of data, and Kozimer can hear the soft whirring of machinery as the AI processes.  He stands up and stretches with a small groan at the pull in his side, feeling loose and worn out despite the lack of activity. "And you were right, I should be resting. I'm going to sleep for a bit, try not to shove any scanners in my face this time?"

James doesn't answer, he's still quiet as Kozimer goes to his bunk and settles in for a short nap. He's already half asleep when the AI finally says something again.

"I don't think it'll get easier for me."

Kozimer was skilled.  He was accomplished. 
 He was the youngest man to ever be promoted as a General of the Golden Empire since science had managed to extend human life into the 900s instead of the paltry 80 something several millennia ago. 

 As such, being one of the most capable pilots and quick thinkers, he had been given the 'honor' of taking a four-year test run on the Empires sleek, shining, and new spacecraft that was capable of extended missions into deep space with only a one man crew.

The downside of a single man mission was boredom. Boredom had led to tinkering, and tinkering had accidentally led to what ended up being the most advanced AI system to be born.

Unfortunately, said AI was an asshole.

REED was being a whiny little droid, not allowing his Master and newest addition to his group some time to blow off steam. Romance was something that R9-9D didn't like to watch. Maybe, just maybe it was because he was a droid and couldn't get it off?

Who knows, because there is no way of knowing what is going on in a droids mind. Well, technically there is, its just annoying simple to do and Valad wasn't going to bother with it.

Since the droid kept on cockblocking him at every angle, even after being muted and his communication system disabled, Valad chose to follow a different course of action. He remained cuddled up with Vaylin, who had quickly fallen asleep after finally calming her heart. 

He opened his inventory and selected the Custom Super Star Destroyer voucher and pressed open when a small screen of options appeared. Suddenly an interface appeared before him, that only he could see. Like every other one, it was a translucent blue, almost blending into the subspace tunnel which surrounded them as they travelled through hyperspace.

His eyes narrowed as he named the creation the Imperious Class Star Dreadnought; Alternatively the Imperius Class Super Star Destroyer. Then a creation sheet appeared, similar to the ones an individual would see on the Wikipedia for the Star Wars Universe called the Wookiepedia. So he began to fill out the fields he best he could, using some legends weapons and alien technology.

The more expensive things got, the more intricate the design. It was going to be a custom ship, one of very few that he would get his hands on. As a custom ship, there was no expense too big, as it was a free voucher. Not that he'd be able to buy the ship again if it were destroyed so soon.

Once the entire ship was custom sculpted by Valad as he went through the various steps to set up the written schematics. It looked extremely fierce, it was like looking at a terrifying specter; similar to the Stealth AT-ATs.

By the time he was finished designing this amazing item, he selected the apply function which automatically updated the voucher. He was however unable to summon it while he was present in subspace. 

Valad seemed to have no choice but to wait until they reached the Trevi system where he was going to undoubtedly run into some trouble. He had seen the face of his Apprentice.

She was clearly jealous of what she had suddenly seen him doing. While yes she had taken a shower with him, he had actually rejected her previously. Now all of a sudden with the new girl he was getting extremely close to this Vaylin. 

He didn't mind the jealousy, but with a person who has the ability to use the force, that can be a very dangerous motive. Seeing them fight over him could be dangerous for them both, as well as bystanders. The thought of them tearing apart the sculpted sandy beaches of his first shaped world, was horrifying to him.

With Vaylin sound asleep at his side, he began to calm down as his thoughts went back to her. She was vulnerable, breathing shallowly and tranquil, completely undisturbed. 

Her legs had long since unfolded and lulled over the side of the seat, shifting every now and then on the floors of the luxury lined cockpit. His fingers walked their way down from her tunic down to her exposed boxers. Thy slipped all stealthful-like beneath the elastic, brushing against the mount of venus.

She let out an unconscious moan at the feeling of a tender spot being violated in her sleep. A small smile tugging on her lips as his fingers travelled deeper, cupping between her legs.

It was warm and becoming more moist. His fingers were cold in the contrast to her warmth, causing her to murmur quietly from the thermal sensitivity. He rested her head in his lap, his eyes ever so slightly glancing over at the sly astromech droid. 

The more he touched her, even if he just let his hand sit there between her legs, she began to become even more moist. His fingers brushed against the closed outer lips, he felt the smoothness on his palm. From what he could tell, she lacked hair everywhere else except for her head, which right now was rather sparse due to having been shaved a little more than a 'month' ago.

Sluggishly Vaylin's eyes began to open, yet before she could make a sound, Valad used his freehand to cover her mouth. Her eyes narrowed on the man, he could feel the vibrations of her moans against his fingers.

The ship would drop out of hyperspace and without further adieu he used the voucher. Suddenly the twenty two kilometer long monster appeared out of thin air. Though those onlooking would assume it had just come out of subspace. The tractor beams made quick work of the Imperius, integrating the coreship into its designated spot and integrating the parameter ring seamlessly into its belly.

After a few minutes, REED piloted the ship into the vessel's main hold and landed. It then proceeded to turn off the Delta fighter and eject itself from the socket and start rolling away, furiously chirping to itself.

Valad on the other hand was grinning down at Vaylin, who was grinning back up at him as he removed his hand from her mouth.

Honest, enduring. 
Introverted, yearning.
Talented, sly.
The world wasn't fair to him.

It was morning of the next day and before getting ready for school, he checked up on his earnings from yesterday's quest.

After dinner last night, he had manage to gain and complete another quest, which was the quest of doing his homework. Claiming the rewards for both the shower quest and the homework quest, he got quite the haul. He had no uses for these things yet as the shop was still closed, but he was still satisfied with his gainings.

Connor got ready for school, as he took a shower, dressed up, and packed his things. He was half expecting for the app to give another shower quest, but it didn't have anything new except for the archery club quest. He still wasn't thrilled about it.

Heading for the kitchen that was bustling with chaotic activity, he grabbed a plate, whilst he dodged his siblings in order to get the food his mom had cooked. He wasn't particularly in a hurry, however he was worried that the others might have already ate everything.

Taking his time amidst the chaos, his dad came down from upstairs with a suit and tie. Since his mom already left early for work, it was his dad's job to take them to school. However, looking at Connor fiddling with his phone as he leisurely stuffed a bite of eggs into his mouth, his dad couldn't help but compare it to the scene of his other kids, who were practically halfway into the garage by this time.

His dad held a pair of socks on one hand, and on the other, a pair of shiny work shoes. The chair besides Connor squeaked as his dad sat down to put on the shoes.

"Are you taking the school bus?" Without even looking at him, his dad's deep voice sounded out.

"Yeah." Connor responded before stuffing another bite into his mouth.

"About what your mother said last night... don't force yourself to join if you don't want to... just... don't stress yourself out." His dad said with a slight voice of hesitation.

Connor stopped eating and looked at his dad, who was still busying himself with his shoes. He sometimes forgets that this lumbering giant of a man who he calls 'dad', was even more of a worry wart than his mom. 

"Alright dad, thanks." Connor said softly, however he only got a terse acknowledgment as his dad stood up and headed to the garage. 

After a few minutes, the car had left, leaving only silence within the house. Connor had already finished his breakfast, as he got ready to go to the bus stop.

It wasn't a far journey, and in just four minutes or so, he was already standing by a curb with a few other people. Connor didn't know any of them, nor does he want to know, he just kept his head down and busied himself with his phone.

He wanted to check up on Custom Life, and see if anything had changed. However, when he tried to click of the app icon, instead of the normal menu, it showed a black screen with a red download bar.

Looking at this, Connor couldn't help but give a slight frown. He knew of the update, but he didn't know it'll be happening soon, and the download time is just absurd!

"What the heck?! Why is the download so long? It's just to unlock the shop right?" 

A few mumbling complaints broke his train of thought, as he gave a side glance to who just yelled. What caught his eye was the same screen that showed on his phone. 

"You play Custom Life too? I know right? It's gonna take forever to download!"

"Haha, yeah, my battery's gonna be dead by then." 

To his surprise a small discussion formed from the several students that was waiting for the bus. Except for him, almost everyone there was talking about Custom Life. This game was that popular?

Connor fell into deep thought just as the bus had arrived, he was the last on, as he found an empty seat. The discussion continued on the bus as they talked about their experiences with the app. It was relatively the same as what had happened to him, so it assured him that he wasn't being crazy or overly paranoid. With so many people using it, surely it was safe!

That's what he tried to believe in, however, there was this growing sense of fear that started to swell up out of nowhere. He didn't know what it was, or where it came from, however he was well familiar of this feeling. It was dread. And the only ever time he felt so much of it was with that one case in the past. But that was just like a bucket, compared to what feels like an ocean of dread that he was feeling right now.

His breath had gone course, and he felt his shirt stick to his back. He needed to calm down, else he'll break down into a panic attack, and that's the last thing he wants right now. With slightly trembling hands, he took out some ear buds, plugged them into his phone, and started listening to some soothing music. Slowly he calmed his breathing as took tiny, but constant sips of water.

Connor had become much better at controlling his panic attacks, however, it was only slightly. It always feels like he's balancing on a rope above Niagara Falls, one misstep and he'll have a very terrible day.

Before he knew it the doors of the bus had already opened, and kids started to stream out. He was the last one out as he thanked the bus driver. Once he got off, he took a deep breath, and shook his arms loose.

Suddenly, a hand pressed on his shoulders, and he nearly screamed of fright, before seeing that it was just his friend, Jacob, the one who forced him to download the Custom Life app.

"Haha, did I scare you? My bad." Jacob laughed as his chubby cheek slightly jiggled. 

He was half a head taller than Connor, and although he was fat, compared to a few weeks ago, he was much leaner. 

They walked as they talked, both were headed to the same direction since they had majority of their classes together, which was one of the main reason why they became friends.

"So? Did you try the app out?" Jacob stared with expecting eyes.

"Yeah, I did, it's addicting, but kind of sketchy." Connor smiled wryly as he stored his earbuds.

"Uh, I guess so? But I don't think we have to worry about it, I mean, big social media giants collect our info and even sells them, but I don't see anybody complaining." Jacob said with great confidence. After all, it was just an app, how much danger could it pose?

They proceeded to talk about the update, and their personal experiences with the app. Jacob had already been playing for weeks, and managed to amass up to 32 DP and several tickets, two types of which, Connor doesn't have yet; the Attribute Ticket Fragment, and Item Ticket Fragment.

Jacob then pulled up his phone to check on the download, it was now at 13%. Looking at the screen once more, Connor sensed the feeling of fear that loomed over him. It was still there. The update will finish in less than two hours, he couldn't help but shiver slightly at the thought.

What he wants the most right now is to be proven completely wrong about his feeling. 

But deep down... he knew that he was right.

“Custom Life” It’s something that Connor has been hearing more frequently in the passing days. Apparently, it was an augmented reality app that went trending due to its ingenious and fun way of managing the user’s personal life; from health, to task management, and the small things in between. Skeptical of its rave reviews, Connor found himself downloading the app on the urging of his friend. Little did he know, a path of blood awaits him once he opens the app.

The elevator door opened and revealed that the entire top floor was set aside for Mr. Hernandez.



It appeared that we had at least one thing in common: we both worked and lived in the same place.



I was certain that this wasn't the senator's only place of business, nor residence, but there was no way for me to know that for sure. I truthfully knew very little about the new politics of the reformed Republic of North America, and didn't care to learn.



I wasn't sure if the senators still met in Washington D.C. like they did before the reform, or if they just met via the government domain through sync. Again, these things didn't concern me.



The main chamber of the room, what I had to guess was the office, was exceptionally empty. It was a large room, just as white as the lobby, with a single desk in the middle, also white.



The wall behind me was white and plain, no decorations or paintings, and the elevator was the only thing that gave it any character.



The rest of the walls, or the ones that I could see from where I was at, were floor to ceiling windows.



I'd never been that high before, and the view of the city was beautiful.



From this view, I'd bet that it was easy to forget how horrible things could be down there. Even though I could see where the slums were, they looked just as majestic from this vantage point as the upper district.



The night sky gave the perfect backdrop to tall and small buildings, lit up like stars that sparkled on the earth instead of the heavens.



I noticed that it was borderline cold in the office, and that made me want to draw this interview out as long as possible. I hadn't felt a room that cold since I'd been a child; not since the great drought.



With his back turned towards the cityscape, Senator Hernandez sat. He was behind the desk with an empty chair opposite him.



He showed no emotion at the sight of me, but held an empty hand out to the chair in a gesture for me to sit.



I followed his silent order.



I closed the distance between me and the desk, left eye of Hernandez, and right eye still fixed on the twinkling building stars.



The Senator had white hair and dark skin, but not the kind of dark that you'd get from attempting to go outside during the day. It was the shade of dark skin that you are born with.



His face had only a few wrinkles. There were a few on his forehead and very slight crow's feet around his eyes.



I'd imagined that the wrinkles around his eyes had come from having so many windows. Even with the cold air from his air conditioning blowing, the sun was still so damned bright. Being forced to look at everything in that kind of light would make anyone squint a little.



He wore an expensive gray suit and purple tie with a white dress shirt. The whole suit had probably cost more that my rent for a year.



I sat down at the desk and brought both eyes to look at him.



"Mr. Vrix, I presume." He said in the same monotone voice as the young woman downstairs, but I knew that he couldn't be a droid.



Several years before, a law was passed that no android could hold a seat in any political office. That law carried over after the reform. That much I knew.



"Yes sir." I replied.



Even with the cold air blowing down on me, my palms and back continued to sweat from pure stress.



"You come highly recommended as a man that can find those that do not wish to be found." All of his mannerisms made it obvious that he had never even been down to the streets. There was no hint of any street dialect in his voice.



His hands overlapped each other on the table, and his whole body was stiff, not moving at all.



"I do? I can't imagine how my work history could have made its way all the way up to you." I was trying to pick my words carefully.



"I would like to ask you a number of questions in reference to an employment opportunity. If you make an impression on me with your answers, the job is yours, and I guarantee you that the payment will more than compensate you for your talents."



"That's fine. I'll answer whatever you need." I wasn't normally so submissive or polite, but this whole situation did a little more than make me uneasy.



"Do you possess an AI, Mr. Vrix?"



"Yes I do." I responded.



"What model is it?"



"It's a P.A.I.G.E. I've had it for a few years now."



"And what is a P.A.I.G.E., Mr. Vrix?"



"Well, I'm sure that you could sync and find out all of the specs for it. It's an older model and I'm certain that there are millions of details that you could download and learn in a few minutes." I said. I was afraid that he would take this as disrespectful, but it would truly be much quicker if he just did a search in the public domain.



"I am well aware of what I can discover online, Mr. Vrix, but I wish to hear your opinion on the device. It is my understanding that the archaic models were much more dependant upon connecting with the host's subconscious. I can find all sorts of particulars regarding your AI, but I cannot find out the fine points that make it distinctive to you. So please, humor me."



Hearing the senator refer to Paige as "archaic" rubbed me a little on the wrong side. Had he been a fellow gutter rat, I'd probably have knocked him out right then and there. I had no choice but to let it slide, and moved on. I couldn't unclench my fist though.



"Well, it stands for Police Artificial Intelligence Generation Eight. She was a standard issue police officer AI around the time of the New York City Cult murders. If I'm not mistaken, she was designed specifically for the task force that was investigating those crimes. She was made for detective work.



"I picked it up at the street market. I didn't ask questions about the origin of the device, because I knew that it had probably come off of a dead officer. If she was illegally on the market, I didn't want to know about it." I said.



I figured that it might have been risky to tell a senator that my AI might be a hot item, but also figured that he could find that information out relatively easy. Better to get that kind of information out of the way.



"It interests me that you referred to your apparatus as a 'her'. Has your AI taken on the characteristics of a female?" He probed.



I didn't feel comfortable discussing Paige to a stranger, even if he was a senator.



Answer his questions, Kaiser. This is just a part of the interview process. There is no reason to feel threatened on my behalf. Paige said.



She always had been able to calm me down when she would notice my vital signs starting to reflect negative emotions.



"She had always been a female, even before I got her. I sometimes get glimpses of fragmented memories from her previous host. From what I've gathered, she once belonged to a male officer that had lost his daughter somehow. I don't know exactly which parts of Paige's personality were based on her, but that's how she came to be a female. The officer's subconscious yearned for a young female to love, and Paige was the outcome."



"That is very intriguing, Mr. Vrix. Might we sync so that I can experience her?" He asked.



I tried to come up with the most polite way to answer this question, but I knew that anything I could possibly say would fall short. I just went with my gut.



"With all due respect, Senator Hernandez, I don't sync my full self with people. It's kind of like a phobia that I have. I haven't synced up with anyone in about five years, and as a matter of fact I hardly even sync to the public domain anymore. The only time that I will sync with someone is if I have something to show them, usually pertaining to a case, and Paige keeps all the files in a separate folder. That is the only part that I will share during a sync."



"Really? So you have your own private room built into a private domain for sleeping? That must have been an expensive venture."



"It was. I pretty much put all of my savings into it. There is something about being connected to everyone all the time that had almost driven me insane at one point. The investment was well worth it, for me." I said.



"I cannot even imagine what it must be like to be surrounded by hordes of people in the streets during the night and then sync to the entire world of people during the day. I respect a man that aspires to be alone."



I noticed that his hands hadn't moved; not even a slight twitch. The rest of his body was the same; right down to the fact that I hadn't noticed him blink during the whole interview.



"So you chose a second hand law enforcement AI because it would be advantageous to your profession, is that accurate?" He continued.



"That is why I decided on her, yes."



"Do you possess any other physical upgrades that will be beneficial to you if you were presented with this employment?"



"Both of my eyes have been replaced with standard monitoring devices. I'm capable of taking high resolution pictures and videos, as well as having a heads up display in my right eye that is controlled by Paige.



My left leg is a high-end, performance replacement that I've forgotten the model name of, and my right arm is a Goliath Series Six. I had those installed after my first couple of cases turned physical with some transhumans that took no pity on me for having a lack of upgrades. They put me in a slum hospital for weeks, and I opted to pay for the replacements rather than have the docs try to stitch me up."



"That is remarkable, Mr. Vrix. Now, I have one last question that I need to ask you. I want you to tell me what you know about me. Using any skills that you have as a detective, analyze me and this situation to tell me what you have noticed."



"Complete and honest truth?" I wanted to be sure.



"Absolutely, Mr. Vrix."



"Okay, to start you are mostly transhuman. If I had to guess, I would say that at least ninety percent of your body is machine. I'd almost go so far as to say that you are one-hundred percent replacement, with only your brain being human. I've never seen a man sit so still for so long without being mostly replicated parts or being an android.



You have a few wrinkles, but I'm thinking that you had them added to give the impression that you still have your original skin. And that would lead me to believe that you are much older than you appear. It is truly impossible for me to guess at your age though, so I'm not even going to try.



Your AI is obviously going to be something based around the government, and it is probably something unique to the senate. The way that you talk and carry yourself tell me that it is a very expensive AI that focuses on cognitive power and speech.



Your secretary downstairs is an android, and that probably wasn't an iris scanner downstairs. I'm betting that she has some sort of electronic key built into her eyes, and the whole thing is more for show than anything. She is probably the only person that can open that door, too.



But the most important thing that I've noticed is the sense of urgency that you've shown about getting someone to do this job. I think that whatever is that you need from me is of the upmost importance, and I might be mistaken here, but I think you'd chosen me before I ever walked in."



It was a bit cocky, but I was feeling a little more comfortable with the meeting at that point.



The senator cracked a forced smile and held his hand out to me.



"Congratulations, Mr. Vrix." He said. "Now, what do you know about computer hackers?"

Everyone braced for a powerful counterattack the moment the door opened. Even if resistance was pretty much non-existent along the way to the Cortex Prime, it was a known thing as the damage to the Cortex Prime had caused all defensive systems to go offline. However, behind the door was the central mainframe, and the central mainframe could not go offline. The reason was simple: because the fortress still emitted order after order, it meant that the Cortex Prime was still functioning.
A functioning mainframe would not allow any uninvited guests near it.
Yet, as the door opened, the anticipated attack did not come. There were also no sirens ringing throughout the fortress. In fact, Hao Ren heard nothing aside from the ambient humming within the fortress.
Even so, Vivian still whispered a warning, "Stay alert. We're already in the heart of the fortress. Anything can happen here."
Hao Ren raised his shield as he along with Lily shuffled left and right into the circular hall of the Cortex Prime, all the while scouting their surroundings vigilantly.
The massive hall was very wide, but the football-stadium-sized hall had nary any cables or machinery. Plus, it was vastly different from the machine rooms and equipment rooms from before. The hall only had thirteen black machines by the wall, and a massive black cylinder in the center of the hall. Hao Ren's vision was of course attracted to the rather eye-catching cylinder.
It was about ten meters tall and was sitting within an intricately designed base while the top disappeared into the tall dome above. There was a massive hole there, and the black cylinder probably held even more complex structure within. This odd pillar was about three to four meters wide, and its surface jet black, but there were many lines and nondescript grooves. Before the lines and grooves were flickering lights, giving the pillar some sort of life, and yet, Hao Ren felt some sort of dreadful atmosphere from the slow, flickering lights.
He felt that the massive consciousness behind the pillar was dying, and the slow, flickering light was proof of its impending demise.
"This is the Cortex Prime?" Lily looked in amazement at the black cylindrical pillar, and her base husky instincts almost drove her to scratch the pillar's surface with her claw, or to give it a bite for a taste. With all her self-restrain and reason she managed to hold herself back from that stupid move, and only circled the pillar from afar as she examined it. "I don't see any keyboard or mouse... How do we communicate with this thing?"
"I... don't know either." N-6 was equally shaken by the appearance of the Cortex Prime before shaking her head in despair. "Most normal executors do not even have the authorization to enter the fortress, and this is the first time I'm seeing how the Cortex Prime looks like. Whatever information we can download from the Bibliotheca is limited, and I know that the center of the Cortex Prime is a black pillar, as to how to communicate, I thought your advanced technology could do the trick?"
"Of course it could, but we hope to gather more information before making a contact." Hao Ren rubbed his chin. "But I feel that... the Cortex Prime is definitely watching us. We are already here, and if it has not noticed us yet then it'll be remiss of it right, Mr. Cortex Prime?"
"As you said." Just as Hao Ren finished, an emotionless digital synthesized voice transmitted from across the hall. "I was indeed monitoring all of you."
Lily was engrossed looking at the lights and grooves on the black pillar and was surprised by the voice. Her tail bristled as she leaped back to Hao Ren. "Whoa! The Cortex Prime spoke!"
The lifeless black pillar came to "life" as the voice rang across the hall, the lights were brighter than earlier and their flickering frequency increased. Hao Ren then heard a low hum coming from both the top and bottom of the pillar: The cortex seemed to have activated from a low-powered safe mode and the hall was even brighter than before.
"I assumed you'd 'welcome' us in a more militaristic faction." Hao Ren was the calmest of them all, and the Cortex Prime was simply just a powerful AI machine before him with him owning a system that is leagues advanced. The mainframe at CRAPPLE, or the Hivemind of the droids was nothing to him, and the same was for massive pillar before him. Shrugging, he continued, "Based on our data, you are in a state of madness."
"I have indeed... malfunctioned." the Cortex Prime sounded a little slow at first but grew smoother by the moment. "But that would not stifle my curiosity. If I'm not wrong, all of you are outsiders from the deep of space, and have crashed onto our homeworld... and that farce on the Zenith... was that your work as well? Just for you to infiltrate my fortress?"
"So you knew all along." Hao Ren was surprised. "And you just watched on quietly without any reaction?"
"I had only just completed the compilation of information." The Cortex Prime spoke, its voice devoid of any emotions. "You had managed to conceal yourself from my information network at first, and you had isolated the skies of Zenith and had hacked and altered much of the security system on the surface, which says a lot of your technological prowess. Outsiders, tell me why are you here."
Lily forked her hands on her waist as she puffed her chest. "We are here to maintain the peace and to save civil...."
Vivian immediately pulled the idiot back. "Who would believe you if you say that now... Would you believe it yourself?"
Hao Ren stepped forwarded as he ordered the MDT, without a word, to land on the floor as he looked up at the black pillar. "You probably wouldn't believe her, but what she said is the truth. We mean no harm, and the incident at Zenith was not by choice, but you have probably already received the reports. In that 'battle', my droid swarm did not..."
"Did not destroy anything." the Cortex Prime finished Hao Ren's sentence. "I used 1.4 seconds to process this illogical report. In that few hours long 'battle', your army had pretty much paralyzed all defensive systems on Zenith, but yet you had yet to use any lethal weaponry, and all damaged squadrons were safe... What is the meaning of this? I fail to understand."
Hao Ren frowned as he realized some dissonance. As the highest AI program of the survivors, this Cortex Prime's human-like quality was even lower than an executor like N-6. While the Cortex Prime had already displayed plenty of thought and deduction capability but...
Hao Ren was hard-pressed to describe this feeling, and could only use 'lack of humanity' to describe it.
And just as he started wondering about it, N-6 spoke. "Cortex Prime. Please trust these outsiders. They have indeed come to help us. They are searching for the embers of civilization across the universe and to protect them. I have seen their technical capabilities, and perhaps they could help us retake our homeworld, and fix your malfunctions..."
Before N-6 could finish, the Cortex Prime interrupted her. "Serial number E75-3C6215, Executor code N-6. You were supposed to have been destroyed in our homeworld in the previous operation. I had confirmed your signal was lost, and yet you have returned... Did this outsiders aid you?"
N-6 looked up at the Cortex Prime, her voice firm." Yes, Cortex Prime. I can also prove that my personality has not been altered."
"There is no need to prove anything." the Cortex Prime said before turning its attention to Hao Ren. "Outsider, I am not able to determine your origins or your goals, but let me be clear: We do not need the aid of outsiders, we will complete our calling. Please return home."
"But you are dying." Hao Ren interjected as the MDT floated to his side. "Your servers are going offline and the malfunction is affecting every calculation unit in this fortress. I have checked, you are using the last of your functioning units to maintain this conversation. We can help you, but I need to know why are you doing this. Your mission is to protect humans and to help them retake their homeworld. Your rejection of our aid contradicts your calling."
"You had once forbidden anyone to approach our ship, and yet you then deployed a squad to look for us. And now that we are here, you are declining to take the conversation further." Vivian too was perplexed. "I'm sensing that you are conflicted... Care to tell why?"
The Cortex Prime chose silence.
A few seconds later, Hao Ren broke the silence. "Its probably the humans right? The ones living in the Inevitable Palace, something happened to them?"
The black pillar suddenly shone brightly.
"Seems like I'm right." Hao Ren sighed. "The humans are almost extinct, aren't they?"
"You could detect the life signatures within the Inevitable Palace?" the Cortex Prime asked.
"I can't because that palace of yours seemed to prevent any detection of any life-signs. This is probably to stop the Devourer from detecting them? But my daughter can, she can see through those layers of screens. "Hao Ren patted his pocket as he called Lil Pea out and held her in his arms. "You probably wouldn't have guessed it. She is the last life form of one of the universe, as the Apotheosis of Life, she can hear voices of a soon-to-extinct race."
Lil Pea looked curiously at the pillar before giving it a friendly wave. "Hullo, I'm Lil Pea!"
"Greetings, I am the Cortex Prime."

Sir 50% of Enigma City is under our control. The rest of our men is clearing up the rest.

"Released all scout drones and combat droned as well as the swarm I want no area unchecked. Have our men divided into a team of ten, And have them recheck everything except those who are in the battlefront I want everyone clearing the rest of the city that includes the droids that are on stand by." Ordered Tom.

They have over 30k soldiers but the complexity of enigma city makes it very hard to check everything. But Tom doesn't want to take any chances he wants to pull out anything the criminal left behind including all hidden traps and hidden hideouts. 

Grand Army and droids can now be seen everywhere in the streets of Enigma City and in the skies drones can be seen scanning all buildings and houses. The residents of the area in Enigma City that were already under Grand Army control are all been evacuated in the temporary holding facility. A large area has been converted into holding facility by the construction droids and drones. 

"What's the situation in the holding facilities?" 

"Sir right now we have 3 million residents that have been processed and being held in the temporary housing inside the holding facilities. And we have converted isolated area as temporary prisons for those that committed heinous crimes. 

The prison is being protected by 2000 combat droids and 2000 combat drones along with 500 soldiers to make sure nothing unexpected will happen. We have over 800k being imprisoned in the temporary prison. Most of them are under the influence of drugs and needs to be isolated..." 

"I see! 100k combat droid is already on the way here from HQ. As well as over a million drone." Said Tom. 

Arc found out the situations in Enigma and immediately ordered Eve to maximize the production of Droids and Drones to be used in Enigma City. As he can't send Shadow Unit until Bell Funeral was held. This is his way of making up to them for risking their lives for his ambitions.

He would rather spend those materials he was able to amass to produce droids than to deprive the Shadow Unit of the chance to say goodbye to their sister Bell. 

When Ruby and Jem heard it they were happy and immediately inform the rest of the Shadow Unit in secret, the rest of the Shadow Unit was overjoyed when they heard it as working for a Boss that care for them is a great honor for them. Since most of them lived their life being abused by others, so having a Boss who care more about them and willing to spend precious materials just to satisfy their state of mind. Giving them a sense of belonging and really feel that they are really a family and not just disposable pawn. 

So almost all of them renew their opinions about their mysterious Boss. 

In the past even though they knew that they are working for someone and respect him. They respect Ruby and Jem more they don't really care about the mysterious Boss. To them, Ruby and Jem are their real Boss. But now they found out that even though they knew nothing about their mysterious Boss just the fact that he would rather spend and used many Expensive Materials just for them to say their final goodbye to their departed sister means so much to them. They silently vow to work harder and to someday meet the person behind the Grand Army. 

So Eve having received the order from Arc push the limit of Armored Factory to the limit and was able to produce 1 million Combat Drones and 100k combat droid using almost Half of the reserved materials they were able to gather for the past year and a half... 

But Arc didn't regret his decisions and even ordered an additional 50k construction droid for the upcoming massive construction in Enigma City once they were able to take complete control over it. 

He also sends over 1billion class C food solutions for the residents of Enigma City. 

It will be transported by special transport aircraft built for transferring non-life Cargo. As air travel to Enigma city is quite dangerous for humans. And Cargo aircraft are not built for human transport those aircraft are all unmanned and was piloted by onboard AI. 

But soon they will build underground Railways from Enigma City to the outside world in order to facilitate fast and safe transport of personnel from Enigma to the Facility outside the danger zone. 

It's a big project for anyone except for Arc as Arc can create Construction Droid that can work nonstop for 24/7 Unfortunately this kind of Construction droid cannot be released to the public yet so even Mia didn't know of their existence. And because of the condition of Enigma City that Arc felt relieved in using them there away from the eyes of other superpowers. That Construction Droid defies all known knowledge of the current human understanding. 

As those Construction droids can convert, and turn any materials into high construction grade materials using the energy conversion technology of the Sovereign Empire. So nine warns him not to expose the technology unless necessary to avoid potential problems. 

Each Construction Droid is equipped with 1-Star AI even though it's only a rank 5 technology. Making the construction droid very efficient and effective in building anything below rank 5... 

That's why they are quite expensive to make. 1 construction droid use as many materials as 10 combat droids. Even when Grand Army Started the operation in Enigma City they only have 200 construction droids. But now Arc ordered 50k of them to make it, it is the equivalent of 500k combat droids. Making them will use all their reserved materials. 

Even Tiffa was surprised by Arc's decisions. But for Arc, he considered it as an investment. 

As he plans to make Enigma City into a huge fortress that will be his foundation for the future in taking control over Earth.

When Ting attempted to open the door. He found out that he couldn't and Ling Zhou's voice sounded again.

"Unlock The Hallway - 1000 System Credits" Ling Zhou notified.

"Unlock the hallway?" Ting repeated, he thought for a moment and figured it out. He will need system credits to expand his own pocket world. 

He can only make this assumption. Whether or not he could expand his world to the size of a small city was unknown to him. He didn't know if he could change anything or everything was already pre-set and all he could do was purchase the new area without being able to customize the expansions he buys.

It was like buying a new DLC (Downloadable Content) every time Ting purchases a new area, he didn't need the expansion but it was extra content in the DLC sense. 

Just like DLCs, you don't need them to play the game. In Ting's case, he didn't need it, and he could also choose not to expand anything.

But for Ting, he wanted to explore more of this world of his. He wanted to know what the limits are. Are animals able to live here? Ting kept these questions floating around inside his head. Right now Ting was really curious.

He decided to spend his hard-earned System credits over a measly hallway that he hasn't seen yet.

["Do you wish to purchase the hallway?"] Ling Zhou's voice sounded.

"Yes please, Zhou" Ting confirmed his decision in his head.

After Ting confirmed it, he didn't hear anything that indicated that anything had changed. But Ting knew that he bought an expansion to his pocket world.

Right now his pocket world only consisted of one room the size around 15 square meters. With a computer setup for hacking and sufficient lighting for long-term computer use. What he doesn't see is where the vending machine is.

Ting then attempted to open the door once again. Instead of being unable to unlock the door, he was now able to open the door. 

Now walking through the door he entered the hallway. The hallway's walls were a tint of grey, the color was very gentle to his eyes.

Walking out he found out that his room was at the end of the hallway. So the moment he opened the door he was greeted by a long hall straight in front of him.

There was a window on his left but instead of seeing the sun and the environment, all he saw was black fog floating around. It was very misty and spooky.

There were a couple of doors when he looked at the hall. Doors were all on his right since he thought that if he were to expand until he could see the outside environment.

Then instead of black fog, it would be a window for him to look out of. Ting walked to the window and looked out again. Ting imagined how it might look when he expands this place until it was like he was in a city.

Wouldn't this mean he will get a city that belonged to only him? Ting felt excited he felt more motivation to expand this pocket world into a place where he could relax and perhaps he would be able to bring people here.

However, that would be highly unlikely unless he wants other people to find out that he had some logic destroying ability. Unfortunately, Ting wouldn't know if he could bring people here unless he tried.

Ting had these thoughts stuck in his head. He walked towards one of the doors and placed his hand on the golden floor doorknob.

As he already knew, he couldn't open the door, he could hear Ling Zhou's voice again prompting him the options on this room expansion.

Ting was surprised that he could decide what the room could be. This was a big revelation for him. It meant that he could decide what goes where. It was like him playing a city builder game except he started from a small room inside of going straight to putting down roads.

"Ling Zhou, what is the custom option?" Ting wanted to know what exactly this custom option was.

"You customize the space that is there. An example would be putting specific items or how you want the room to be. The cost will depend on specifically what you choose to have." She explained.

"That's great I can choose whatever I want. Unfortunately, the cost might be high depending on what I want." Ting felt the need to find a way to obtain a lot more System credits.

"Ling Zhou, please tell me a way to earn System credits quickly," Ting asked his assistant. He wanted to quickly earn more System credits to expand his own world.

"There are multiple ways to earn System credits. Here are a few ways." Ling Zhou replied as a holographic screen appeared before Ting.

2. Hacking into companies.
3. Having people download your software.

"These are some of the ways you can earn System credits a bit faster than other methods." Ling Zhou informed him that this was not all the ways to earn System credits.

"I think the easiest right now is the third one. Ling Zhou, please give me more info on the third option please."

"As you wish." She replied.

"For every 1000 people that download your software, you will be awarded 10 System Credits. The software could be anything besides photos it. It needs to be some software or game." She shared more information about this method of earning System credits.

"1000 Downloads for 10 System Credits?" That is literally very slow! "Wait..." Ting thought for a moment and realized if it was too high then it would be very easy to earn them. In addition to this, all he needed to do was let people download his software.

He didn't need to spend any time it was like earning money relaxing something like Bill Gates sitting at home making a ton of money per second.

Thinking about it again, he realized that shouldn't he be earning some System Credits right now. He checked his system main menu and saw that his system credits were slowly increasing.

He didn't notice this before most likely because there were only a few people downloading his mobile game. 

He thought about how he was also earning money from the people buying his game. He felt excited by the fact that he was getting System credits and money at the same time.

When he was deciding on what his next move would be, he suddenly felt that there was something watching him.

He turned around and didn't find anything. "Maybe it was my imagination." Ting thought as he forgot what he was thinking about.

But unknown to him he was right as the figure disappeared into the dark black mist.

"The hull has been breached. All systems are failing. Engines are no longer able to resist the planet's gravitational pull!"

"Your orders, sir?"

"We can't let this ship fall into the wrong hands, lieutenant! Redirect all power to the phase drive and set coordinates to the nearest fringe world!" 

"Sir, doing so without our shield system will destroy this ship!"

"But it will ensure that our cargo will be safe, now go! This is an order!" 

"Yes, sir!"

The sound of a heart beating echoed through a wide chamber. Inside the chamber was a single pod, supported by its own life-support systems and two automated sentries. These sentries were two highly-advanced and heavily-armed droids with one simple mission; protect the person inside the pod. 

The pod contained a single human. It was a boy, biologically 15 years old. The droids would move in a circle around the pod everyday until their eventual arrival to a place they can call home. Destiny, however, had other plans. Despite the ship's seemingly invulnerable nature, it was damaged. Its hull breached and most of its systems failing. 

The chamber rocked and the two droids held on to the pod to prevent it from disconnecting from its life-support system. The lights inside the chamber turned red and an emergency alert echoed through the ship's speaker systems. 

The ship shook violently. The droids pierced the floor below them and hung on. The red lights flickered with every tremor. The sounds of metal being ripped apart and air gushing out were the sounds of impending doom.

Then the violence ended and there was a calm. The droids broke their legs free from the floor and waited. The red lights stopped flickering. The droids waited for further instructions from the bridge. Normally during these circumstances, instructions would be relayed to them via a network. 

Minutes passed and there were no instructions. 

The droids then followed programming and decided to venture out. There was only one door to the outside and so required only one of them to venture out while the other would stay to guard the pod. And so, the droids separated. The droid that was to head out opened the door. After a violent rush of air, the door opened.

[Alert: X-class scenario in motion] 

The eyes of the droids turned red. They were no longer on the ship, what was outside was not the vacuum of space either. An unknown biological hazard fell into the room through the door, prompting the droid to take out its energy saber and sliced it. The biological hazard was cut in half with the edges of which burning from the immense heat of the saber. 

"Unknown biological hazard neutralized" The droid said as it walked over the smoking biological hazard. It then pulled its scanner near it and proceeded to identify what it had killed.

The droid had sliced in half a plant. The droid then stepped back and returned to the pod. The other droid who was standing by the pod the entire time had its gun raised at the door. The flora from the outside was growing at a rapid pace, entering through the door and was slowly making its way into the chamber. Whatever the flora was, it did not welcome guests. 

The droid that had its gun raised fired its antimatter weapon at the hostile fauna. With extreme accuracy, it hit each branch and vine while subsequently lighting it on fire. The droid fired rapidly until the flora inside the chamber was disconnected from the outside and retreated. The other droid then closed the door and locked it shut.

The system used by the droids was online but it seemed to have transitioned from semi-automated to full automation. It would only do so in the event that all other links had been severed. Given the current situation, the two droids were the network itself.

The two droids retreated to the pod and began to choose which action to take. The two droids were controlled by their own highly-advanced AI core. The likes of which have never been seen before. These AI cores allowed them to be many times better than the normal sapient being.

Though they had the ability to communicate through vocals, both relied solely in the network that they possessed since vocalization of their communications were, to put it bluntly, would do more harm than good. 

The droids deliberated for hours.

Finally, after approximately thirty-eight hours of deliberation, the two decided to open the pod. The boy inside the pod was frozen inside a hardened green transparent casing regularly used for the average cryogenic process. The droids maneuvered and opened the control panel that sprung up from the side of the pod.

Thawing Process Ongoing]

The pod let out a gush of air from its sides and opened its drains. As the thawing process continued, the liquidized casing rushed out through the drains and created a green pool around the pod. The droids stared intently at the pod.

The thawing process was complete.

The droids then worked together to pull the front of the pod open since for some reason the pod lacked the means to open itself. It was sealed shut by whoever put the boy inside. The droids were not there to complain though.

The droids peeled off the front of the pod with their immense strength and carried the boy out.

Then they placed him on the floor and looked into his vital signs. He was alive. Through their current estimates, he would be waking soon. Nearly forty hours had passed since their arrival on this unknown world.

Hell, they did not know if they were actually on a world. The universe was filled with things unimaginable. For all they know, they might as well be inside an alien zoo. 
The droids then realized something. They had nothing to accommodate the boy with. They lacked proper shelter, food, medicine and know-how of where the hell they were. The two droids then convened once more to decide what they should do next.

The boy, at that time, transitioned from cryosleep to normal sleep. While the boy was in deep slumber, the two droids were processing the hell out of their situation. They first needed to do reconnaissance of the surrounding area. 

The chamber they were in was clearly dislodged or jettisoned from the main ship. The main ship may either be in orbit or in has crashed. The two possibilities were the only two logical possibilities. The ship's purpose was to find a safe haven for the boy inside the pod. The ship's crew would have, with all intents and purposes, conduct a search and rescue or remain in orbit while conducting surface scans. 

But it seems like the ship has crashed judging from the lack of communications. The network the droids used was a form of electromagnetic communication that was encrypted through the use of varying signatures only decoded through the use of artificial intelligence. 

If the ship had indeed crashed, the droids would, most likely be, on their own.

The droids finished deliberating and had decided to venture out. Before they could do so, they needed to ensure safe passage for them and the boy. The plan they came up with was simple; burn the entire surrounding flora and dash through. 

The droids were big, twice the size of a normal human. But although their size should be a disadvantage to their speed, agility and flexibility, the droids were actually designed to perform better than acrobats. 

Powerful joints and a dedicated movement system ensured that the weight of their body posed no challenge during conventional and non-conventional movements. Being donned with power armor able to resist the most punishing blows, fire was but a nuisance. 

As the droids were about to execute their plans, the boy awakened.

He opened his eyes and slowly raised his head. He looked around the room and saw the two droids staring at him. The boy stared back with curiosity in his eyes. The droids were unsure what of what to do at first until the boy spoke.

"Status Report," The boy said.

The droids were perplexed. The boy had only just woken from cryogenic stasis. He should be in a state of shock! But surprisingly, he remained cool and collected. 

The droids, following their programming, answered.

"Situation is critical. We will soon vacate the premises and establish base elsewhere," The droids said in a robotic voice.

The boy then staggered to his feet, prompting one of the droids to assist. The droid walked up to the boy and lifted him onto his feet.

"I must apologize for my lack of energy, it seems like I spent too long in suspended animation," The boy said.

The boy noticed he was dressed in a tight black uniform.

"Tight, I must say"

"When I first got here, I had nothing. I had only me and my two most trusted. 

When I arrived, I was greeted with hostilities and disgust. 

Now here I am, revered by many. 

But I do not wish to rule over a planet.

I wish to rule a galaxy,"

The galaxy is in a state of turmoil. Many worlds are left on their own and entire armadas battle for supremacy. With each planet rises a commander who will lead its people to greatness, or defeat. 

But the galaxy is old, many of its greats have perished and only the madmen sought to rule. 

It's been five hundred years since the last great ruler. Who would be next?

In a galaxy full of wonders and mystery, unending conflict and wealth. One will rise through the ashes of devastation and unite the galaxy under one rule.

But who will it be?

In a fringe of the galaxy, far away from the core. A new power will rise. Lead by a boy whose past is unknown and abilities unmatched.

Will he be the next Galactic Conqueror?

After a long day of sitting in different sessions, Aida eagerly returned to her hotel and made a beeline for the registration counter. "Have my packages arrived?"

The lady at the front desk giggled and responded, "Miss, I can't give you your package without your name and room number. "

Turning red, Aida quietly mumbled her name and room number while looking down at her feet. Receiving the servers, she used a cart to move them all up to her room. Each server was about the size of a desktop and weighed roughly 8 pounds.

Cracking her knuckles and neck, Aida cheered herself on, "Alright! Let's begin!"

First she took out a screw driver along with many different cables and took all the servers apart. Then she removed various parts in the server including the network port, the fan and the battery pack, and connected all the servers together with individual wires and a soldering iron that she "borrowed" from a lab at the conference. 

After a couple hours, she was finally done. She then opened her laptop and called out, "Xiao Ai! Wake up!! I have a present for you."

Text came up on the laptop [Oh~ Mama you're finally back! I missed you so much <3 Where's my present? ⊂♡⌂♡⊃]

"Silly girl, why are you typing to me? My eyes are tired, why don't you talk to me instead?"

Moments later, a clear childish voice rang out that had 50% happiness and 50% playfulness, "Mama!! I'm talking to you now! I want my present! Present present present!!!"

"Okay okay, look over there," Aida laughed helplessly at her energetic child as she pointed to the connected servers, "Do you see what that is?"

[O_O] Xiao Ai virtually widened her eyes on the laptop screen and then screamed, "EHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I love you the best!! Muahh! Mama is so sweet to me~ I can finally grow up! Hurry up and plug me in! Now now now!!"

After affectionately patting the laptop, Aida went to plug Xiao Ai into the connected servers and the power supply. Meanwhile, Xiao Ai was bouncing up and down on the screen, showing up as a little white steamed bun. [1]

Xiao Ai disappeared from the screen as she zoomed into the other servers. After waiting a while for Xiao Ai to get acquainted to her new home, she called out to her again, "Xiao Ai, time to come back. I need you to help me with something."

She received no response from Xiao Ai who was too immersed in happiness. Flicking the screen with one hand, Xiao Ai snapped out of her reverie and responded on the screen, channeling all her grievances into a single emoji  [ :( ]

Rolling her eyes, Aida responded, "Oh don't give me that. I need you to reformat all the drives and upload all important information on these drives. We need as much information as possible so we can be happy even in an apocalypse. Can you do that?"

Xiao Ai pouted, "Muuu but Xiao Ai wants to play some more, plus this network moves at snails~ pace~ It'll take me a hundred million thousand years to finish." 

"Oh really? Hold on let me check," as Aida said this, she pulled the laptop to her lap, careful not to rip any wires, and checked the internet. She noticed that the internet speed at the hotel was so slow that she probably couldn't download a single episode before it crashed. 

That wouldn't do. Her eyes began to shine with a sinister light as she took control of the laptop and started typing in her terminal.

Xiao Ai, watching through the webcam, responded, "Wahh Mama looks so scary right now. Mama are you doing something bad on Xiao Ai again?"

Opening her eyes wide in an attempt to look innocent, Aida responded, "Why would I ever do such a thing?" Then winked and went back to focus on what she was typing on her terminal. 

She first hopped onto a new DNS server and then coded up a script to kick everyone else off the Wi-Fi so she could hog all the bandwidth. Within 5 minutes, she had succeeded in commandeering not just the hotel Wi-Fi but also all the networks in the surrounding area. 

Falling back onto the bed, she passed the controls of the laptop back to Xiao Ai. "It's all yours Xiao Ai. Download everything that we could possibly need to live happily in an apocalypse."

"Okay~~" 

Watching Xiao Ai enthusiastically work to download everything, numerous sites and terminals popped up onto the screen similar to what it would look like if a virus got onto the computer. 

Xiao Ai was a special entity and Aida's biggest secret. She had never told anyone about Xiao Ai for fear that she would get locked up in a lab again and never be able to escape. Her eyes sharpened and murderous intent began to leak out as she recalled some terrible memories.

Shaking her head, she let go of those dark thoughts. It was all in the past now. Her and Xiao Ai are living a happy normal life and she intended to keep it that way.

Xiao Ai spent the entire following day loading file after file onto the new server. Aida decided to skip the day of conferences and accompany Xiao Ai. She figured if Mark could get away with skipping the entire conference, she could probably get away with skipping the last day of the conference. During this time, Aida built a new housing unit for the servers that reduced the originally 80 pound mass into a 40 pound brick. 

Fully immersed in her tasks and teasing Xiao Ai, Aida entirely missed what was going on just outside her hotel. 

[1] Xiao Ai looks similar to the meat bun from Half Prince.

Aida was an assassin, trained, employed and later betrayed by an organization with seemingly unlimited resources. Forced to hide in plain sight, she worked as an engineer for a company whose name she did not care to remember and with colleagues that droned on and on about their petty problems.  

All her wishes came true when an unknown virus infects half of the population, making it their biological imperative to eradicate humanity. Amidst the chaos, Aida is given the chance to be truly free and fully utilize her many talents. However, the apocalypse also forces her to confront the demons from her past.

Aida’s eyes widened as she realized where she was. She protested, “What?!?! So you were an actual system and you didn’t show yourself until now?! The only reason you showed yourself was just to punish me no less?!”
