this story takes place in the late summer of 2099 the 3 year student Synnyia Eynnixa attends a college that is for students with magical abilities and is off the coast of Zynnkia in a far away country of Xynnyakai

What lies ahead of Synnyia find out when the this story goes live in late December of 2020

A dark blur travelled through the air. The shot made landed on the ground.
"16 meters! I made it past 16 meters!" Qin began to celebrate with his hands in the air. Although he was the last among the five to achieve 16 meters, he was thrilled regardless.
The qualification stand for a national first-class athletes in shot put was 16.20 meters. This put Qin very close to the mark. He believed that at his current rate of progress, he could reach the standard very soon.
Jiankang Chen made the quickest progress among the five. At his best, he could already throw beyond 16.20 meters, the qualification stand for national first-class athletes.
Throwing a 16-pound shot ball over 16 meters was good enough to participate in national-level field events. However, this was merely the qualifying distance. In events such as the National Track and Field Championship, 16 meters would be at the bottom of the ranking.
If the age of the athlete were taken into consideration, 16 meters would have be extremely meaningful. In fact, considering the average physical condition of Asians, reaching the national first-class athlete standard before the age of 18 would be a remarkable achievement in any sport.
Compared to world top-level athletes such as Feixiang Lin and Feifei Yu, C-level talent could barely be considered talent at all. But not every athlete was able to be a world champion. C-level talent, however, was much better than the average person, which made for an excellent athlete.
Dai Li was satisfied enough being able to cultivate excellent athletes. Being an excellent professional in any profession was already a success. Not every software developer could become Bill Gates, just as not every e-commerce merchant could be as rich as Jack Ma. Likewise, not every internet enterprise could be as successful as Tencent, nor could every online writer have as many fans as Tang Jia San Shao.
However, nobody should disregard the achievements of those who are excellent, nor deny their success. Athletes should not be given up on just because their talent was not enough to make them champions, nor consider them to be unworthy of cultivation.
Time flew by. Dai Li had spent four months with the provincial youth team. As June approached, the team prepared to embark on the busiest time of year— the arrival of new young athletes.
June was also the season of graduation. The athletes with were finishing their nine-year compulsory education. Most of them would enter city youth teams, sports schools, or became sports talent students in high schools. Those entering the provincial youth team were the best ones among them.

All the coaches of the youth track and field team were gathering in the conference room. Bin Lu, the head coach, was sitting in the center with a grave look on his face.
Bin Lu said, "The reason I have gathered everyone here is to make an announcement. I was just notified by the provincial sport bureau that at the beginning of July, the track and field team at the Nantan Middle School is visiting us for an exchange. I’m sure that everybody has heard of the famous Nantan Middle School of Nanwan?" All the coaches nodded in acknowledgement, including Dai Li.
When talking about the Nantan Middle School, everybody working in the sports business knew about it. It was an ordinary public high school in Nanwan, except the word "ordinary" referred to the education. Outside of that, the Nantan Middle School was far from "ordinary."
All students who attended the Nantan Middle School were sports talent students, meaning that the school was running an amateur sports school business under the name of an ordinary high school. The only difference separating it from a real sports school was that the Nantan Middle School was putting more emphasis on the academic lessons. The graduates there were qualified to enter universities, a perk not available in technical secondary schools like the sports schools.
Beginning on the very first day, apart from completing the regular high school courses, all students in the Nantan Middle School were required to undergo physical training. By the third year, the students took the college entrance exam as high-level athletes, special exam takers, or sports talent students, then entered universities as sports students.
The education in the Nantan Middle School was delivered in an uncommon way. However, because the minimum acceptance score in college was much lower for sports talent students, the percentage of students entering college from Nantan was very high. Their students had been training for sports for three years. They would surely have better results on sports talent exams than the students taking up sports in their last year. Not only that, but they had not given up their academic classes. Almost all graduates of Nantan could be admitted to universities.
The high college acceptance rate also gave Nantan a good reputation. This drew in students from all over the country. Parents sent their teenagers to Nantan if their children did not enjoy studying but aspired to make it into college. Choosing from students from all over the country, Nantan had the option of selecting only the best of the best, which was beneficial for the school. This formed a virtuous cycle. As a result, the Nantan Middle School was well known throughout the country, especially among sports professionals. Everyone had heard about this school.　
Head coach Bin Lu continued, "The Nantan Middle School is not a friendly visitor. The summer before last, they visited the youth track and field team in the Minnan province. Last summer, they paid a visit to the youth team of the Jiandong province. I didn’t expect it to be our turn this year."
The coaches in the conference room had grave looks on their faces, as if they were facing a great enemy. Dai Li also felt the change of atmosphere in the conference room. As a newcomer with little insider knowledge, he gently asked the coach next to him, "Mr. Zhang, isn’t it just an athletic team coming for a visit? We just need to greet them as any other team. Why is everybody so nervous?"
Mr. Zhang leaned over and whispered, "The Nantan Middle School always brings their young athletes for the exchange visits, and propose a friendly match. This is what really matters. Last year and the year before last, the Nantan team played friendly matches with the Jiangdong and Minnan provinces respectively. Guess what? Nantan had dominating victories in both matches!"　
"Really? It is just a high school. How come their athletes are better than those on the youth teams?" Dai Li found it incredible. A provincial youth team was where the top athletes from the entire province gathered. How could they not compete with a high school?　
Mr. Zhang explained, "Nantan is a strong team. They have students from all over the country, and there are surely some excellent athletes. But it’s still impossible to defeat the provincial youth team. It’s all about the timing. Nantan visits each year during the transition period of the provincial youth teams, when the new athletes are just arriving and have not had enough training yet. Meanwhile, for the older athletes, the good ones have already been taken by the adult teams, while the bad ones are about to quit. How can we compete with Nantan like this?"
"How can they do that, paying a visit when we are short of people? This is a sneak attack, not an elegant victory, even if they do win," Dai Li complained.
"Yes, it is a sneak attack. But Nantan doesn’t care about elegant victories. Instead, they promote themselves with their victory. An ordinary high school from a prefecture-level city defeating the provincial youth team. It is big news!" Mr. Zhang said with a slight hint of sarcasm.
"Why are they doing this? They are offending others. What do they have to gain?" Dai Li asked.
"It helps them attract better students during the admission season," Mr. Zhang continued. "A high school does not recruit the same way our athletic team does. Our provincial youth team has a pool of candidates from the city youth teams and sports schools. Even if we sit around and do nothing, each city will send the best candidates to our doorstep. But a regular high school has to rely on itself to recruit the best students. Most students will apply for the schools with the best reputation."
"I get it. After defeating the provincial youth team, the Nantan Middle School will use this victory as their admission advertisement to draw in the excellent candidates. They may get good students, but we will become their stepping stone!" After saying this, Dai Li looked distraught.


How could a poor graduate student without any background or connections become successful? With a coaching system? An upgrade? This is not a computer game, but real life we’re talking about!

Everybody would be displeased if Qiao Nan took all the credit.
"Alright, stop laughing. I am telling the truth. The credit has to go to the teachers who taught them for three years, and the third-year students who studied hard during their three years of high school. If the students just entered high school and I helped them spot the exam questions, they would not be able to do as well."
"That's true." Shi Qing finally turned serious. "Alright, I understand what you mean. I have indeed become overly proud of the results. By the way, I heard the mention of houses? What were you referring to? Does the school want to take back the house and want you to move out? It can't be, right?"
Even though Qiao Nan could not take all the credit for the good results in the college entrance examination, at the very least, she contributed to their success.
Qiao Nan helped the school make huge improvements in their results, yet the school wanted her to move out? It was impossible.
"The school did not want us to move, but it's complicated. The principal wants me to go to school tomorrow." 
"You have to go to school again!" Shi Qing was shocked. "Perhaps Principal Meng wants to treat you to a meal? I don't understand as well. You were not sitting for the college entrance examination, yet you went to school as frequent as the third-year students."
Previously, although it was summer break, she had to go to school as she needed to spot the exam questions for the students. 
Tomorrow, the third-year students would receive their report card and then consider which university they wanted to go to. What would Qiao Nan be doing there? 
"I am not sure. Since Principal Meng asked me to go, I have to." Qiao Nan smiled bitterly. She was intolerant to heat, yet she had to keep going outdoors during the hot summer.
"Do you want me to accompany you?"
"No need…"
"Are you sure?"
"Forget it. You'd better accompany me to school." Qiao Nan thought of the previous conversation with Principal Meng on the phone. She decided to bring Shi Qing along such that she could help her if anything cropped up. 
The results of the college entrance examinations across the country were released. The atmosphere in the school was as blazing hot as the temperature in July.
Some were happy while some were sad upon getting their detailed report cards. 
"Principal Meng?" The teachers of Ping Cheng High School, especially the first- and second-year cohorts' teachers, were shocked when they saw the results. As for the third-year cohort's teachers, they were mentally prepared, so they were not as surprised. 
"Haha, good, excellent! By the way, have the results of The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China been released? Give me a copy." Principal Meng was all smiles when he saw that the actual results were similar to the results that the students had calculated after finishing the exams and checking through the answers back in school.
"I am in the midst of it."
Principal Meng was anxious to know the results of The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China. Similarly, Principal Wei was also trying to get his hands on the results of Ping Cheng High School.
Each of them regarded the other party as their opponent. While they were concerned about their school's results, they were just as concerned about the results of the opposing school.
"Have the results of Ping Cheng High School been released? How many of them fall within the cut-off point for the first-tier universities? How many of them for the second-tier universities and how many for the third-tier universities? What is the enrollment rate?" Principal Wei was not interested to know the other details. 
Unless they were the top students, it would be good enough to know how many of them qualified for the cut-off point for the first-tier, second-tier, and third-tier universities. The small difference in the marks did not matter. It would only matter when they entered college and wanted to apply for a scholarship. 
"Here they are." The vice principal's expression was solemn. He did not feel like looking at the report card of Ping Cheng High School. 
"What's wrong?" Principal Wei's heart jumped a bit. The vice principal was beaming in the morning, but he looked terrible right now. "Is there any problem? Bring it over to me." Principal Wei took the report card from the vice principal and scrutinized it. His expression darkened when he saw Ping Cheng High School's results. 
Minutes ago, he was elated at the good results of his school, but now, the cheerfulness had evaporated.
Principal Wei waited a good while before he tore the report card of Ping Cheng High School. "Alright, Ping Cheng High School and our school are two different schools. We only have to focus on doing our best. At most, Ping Cheng High School will get to have good results for one more year. It doesn't matter." 
"Yes, Principal Wei," the vice principal replied meekly. He did not dare to be as confident and arrogant as he used to be or look down on the methods that Ping Cheng High School used.
After all, the results were there for everyone to see. They were not fooling around. He no longer mocked their innovation. Instead, he commended them for their courage. 
The vice principal was given the shock of his life. How did Ping Cheng High School manage to score such astoundingly good results?
He would feel slightly better if the good results were due to the combined efforts of the teachers and students in Ping Cheng High School. 
But the problem was that the second-year student who helped spot questions seemed to have made a difference as well! 
If possible, the vice principal would also like for his second-year student to spot the questions for the third-year students. But not every second-year student was capable of doing that. 
That second-year student in Ping Cheng High School was a geek!
If two years ago…
The vice principal and Principal Wei were thinking about the same thing. Two years ago, when he first heard that the top student in the province for the middle school examination had enrolled into Ping Cheng High School, like Meng Ping, he should have made use of his influence to get Qiao Nan to come to his school. Had he done so, the success that Ping Cheng High School had right now would belong to The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China. 
If they did well for this year, The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China no longer needed to be wary of Ping Cheng High School. 
Ping Cheng High School would have fallen far behind them.
If he made sure that the teachers paid attention to Qiao Nan's studies and that she scored the highest mark for the college entrance examination, The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China would secure its position as the best high school in Ping Cheng.
Back then, he heard that Qiao Nan did not even consider going to The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China. Hence, he was not interested in getting Qiao Nan to come to their school.
Qiao Nan was, after all, the top student in the province for the middle school examination. She had the potential to be the top student in the college entrance examination!
The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China might have a long history of good results, but their students did not come in the first place in the college entrance examination. No matter how well they performed, they were still a distance from being the best!
Ping Cheng High School was able to do well for the college entrance examination this year. Next year, Qiao Nan would still be able to spot questions for the students.
If Ping Cheng High School continued to have such good results for the college entrance examination next year, the top student would be from that school!
Principal Wei felt like spitting blood at the thought of that. He felt more anguished than the vice principal.
If that happened, The High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China would not be able to become the best high school in Ping Cheng. Instead, Ping Cheng High School would surpass them, becoming the best high school!!
Principal Wei felt nothing but anguish as he watched helplessly while his ambitious dream extinguished before him. On the other hand, Meng Ping was able to achieve it effortlessly with Qiao Nan's help. 


Qiao Nan: Crap! I am your biological daughter, yet I am treated as if I was picked up from the streets. In fact, you treat me worse than that!

Mother Qiao: Qiao Nan, you are not as pretty or smart as your elder sister. You are not as blessed as her. You have no right to study, marry, or to have your happiness!

Qiao Nan: Why am I not allowed to study, marry, or to seek my happiness? I will find a man right now and marry him!

Qiao Nan is dumbstruck upon discovering that the man right beside her is a powerful figure in the quad—the person who has the most promising prospects to be the future Chief.

Qiao Nan stares at the well-built man in front of her. He has firm abs and cold, chilling eyes. She swallows the lump in her throat as she says her greetings, "Good Morning, Chief!"

Ben drooled a stream of saliva down his forearm, his head tilted a little too far to the left and he woke up, correcting his posture with a snap. Some of the students laughed quietly while the teacher stared at him with a menacing look. Ben, after a few moments of realizations, felt a sting on the top of his head. The teacher supposedly snapped when Ben fell asleep and struck him with his pointer stick, or so the students around him are whispering about. Mr. Saltzman came into the classroom.

- Why am I hearing about a student getting assaulted at my school, Mr. Coll, any ideas?
- I will not stand students sleeping in my class, Mr. Slatzman

- What if he has a good reason for being sleepy?
- Not likely, are we even talking about Tennyson here?

-Anyhow, you are not allowed to hurt students.

Mr. Saltzman changed his gaze onto Ben as he was dumbfounded by all of this. 

- Ben, you are coming with me. C'mon hurry up
- Of course Mr. Saltzman sir.

Ben packed up his books and computer into his bag and got up from his seat. Mr. Saltzman was ready at the door holding it up for Ben to go through.

- Please, call me Alaric, Benyamin
- Then call me Ben, just Ben.
- If you wish so, Ben

Ben followed Alaric to his office on the second floor. Passing students whispered around them, they were probably thinking Ben was in trouble because they were giggling at him. Alaric or Mr. Saltzman opened the door to his office and Ben walked in with him. Alaric sat down and gestured Ben to sit down on the armchair in front of him. Ben sat down and looked up at Alaric, with a slightly worried look.

- Ben, I've seen you grow immensely over the years and academically speaking you are at the top ten every year like you very well know. But I can't have you sleeping in class and paying no intention to the teachers. It is very uncalled for and many students have reported to me that you have little to no respect for other people. I am worried you will spend the last months of school after the summer break alone. It isn't good for your health. You are on the path of receiving a scholarship but with your current behavior, we have other Students that may take that place.

Ben sighed and looked annoyed at principle Saltzman.

- I've never said that I wanted to receive a scholarship. I have no intention of going to college and getting a degree. I just want to spend some time without school. And I am only fighting for good grades because I want an okay job.

- But didn't you want to become a policeman or a firefighter?
- That was in 7th grade, it was a long time ago and I've changed. At least I think so.

- Can I change your mind, Ben? You are doing very well and it would be disappointing to see you give up so easily.

- I just want to be school-free for a while and chill at home.
- Well, I'll be here if you ever change my mind but behave in classes or you will be called in here again and please, "chill" is not a word you should use here. Good to hear it's only for a while though.

Saltzman got up and held up the door for Ben.

- Be on your way now Ben, you can go home now.

Ben got up and sighed, grabbed his bag and walks out of the office. Alaric grabbed his shoulder gently and Ben turned to him.

- Hope you change your mind son, you are on a path for greatness. You never know what will come your way. C'mon, schools over

Saltzman let go and then closed the door behind him. Ben stood outside the office for a moment and then walks down to the ground floor. He looks annoyed at everyone walking past him. Then Julie walks past him and Ben smiles slightly and fixed his green jacket while he somewhat keeps limbs against him.

- Hi, she said
- ah, ehm, yes? I mean, hello.

Julie walked passed Ben and continued up the stairs. He took a deep breath and then walked out of the building. The blinding sun made him squint as he took a few steps down to the pavement. 

- Ben! Shouted a man in an RV

Ben lit up, his posture straightened. He ran up to the RV, opened it, and walked inside.

- I am so glad to see you, grandpa. I've been waiting for an eternity. Let's get this semester on a roll! 
- Hey, Dofus stop screaming, my ears will go numb.

Ben turned to his right and saw a red-headed girl sitting at her computer. Ben's mood changed drastically. From excitement to irritation and confusion.

- Why is she here?

Ben said and turned to Grandpa Max. 

- Her parents thought it would be a good idea to experience the wilderness for a while. I think it was a great idea, then you two can spend some time together as well. The more the marrier.

Max laughed out loud as he turned on the RV and drove out on the highway. Ben made a sour expression and sat down in front of Gwen. He crossed his arms and stared at Gwen with a menacing look. Gwen noticed Ben's staring and her look snapped at him.

- Can you stop staring? It wasn't my idea in the first place. I had my summer planned weeks ago. My parents thought it was a good idea to "bond with your cousin". I don't like this matchup as much as you, you know. I wanted to spend my summer at the lake with a few close friends, go to the cinemas. I didn't even get to sign up for summer class this year because of this. Ben was in disbelief over what she just spat out of her mouth.

- Who even wants to go to summer school. Summer is for vacation and you know, not studying.
- I wanted, I don't expect you to understand but I want to have a future. With your grades, you wouldn't even get a job as a janitor.

- Gwen. Ben is on top of his class, coming in at 7th place on the board.
Said, Grandpa Max. 
-He isn't as low down as you may think Gwen.

Gwen looked back at Ben in shock, you at 7th place? That has to be a lie. I mean look at you, you are probably going to wear the same clothes all summer and have that scruffy looking hair as well.

Ben had a blank look to him and showed her his schools, public scoreboard on her computer. Gwen looked in awe then she went back to her smug smile.

- You probably cheated. And even if you are that high up you still look as dumb as ever, Benyamin.
- Believe what you want, Gwen, but you aren't dumb enough to think that. I just want the school to be over with so I can just chill at home for a while.

- Well, thank you, Ben. But staying at home after school, don't you think it would be a good idea to go to college?

- Wow, concerned for ones? No, I don't want to and my parents are cool with it at least for a year so I'm good.

Ben said and lifted his feet on the table and relaxed to the soothing sound of the road.

- Ben!
- Stop shouting at me.

- If you are as good as you say you are then why not go to college? It is much better to show off your skills at a subject you can later get a job in!

- I don't want to study, don't you get it? It is stupid to sit in a classroom all day long without anything fun. So I will take the year my parents agreed to and I will do things I never had the time to do, like being on a summer vacation in an RV but my fun is ruined now.

- You know I did think you had a few brain cells there but I think they vanished the moment you spoke.

Gwen surfed around on her computer while Ben got some rest.

Grandpa Max stopped and turned off the RV.

- Ahh, finally a good spot in the middle of the woods.

Gwen closed her computer and showed down Ben's legs on to the ground and woke him up.

- Come on Dofus, we are headed out.

- Go outside you two and I will bring out something to eat!

Ben and Gwen sat down on a plain old bench, waiting for Max. Ben took up his Switch and started playing Zelda. Gwen had taken her laptop with her and started typing furiously on the keyboard. Ben looked up at her.

- What are you doing? Were you offended or something?
- Ben shut up. I'm just typing to a friend.
- Okay, whatever.

Ben noticed the angry look on her face but shook it off when Grandpa Max came with a bowl of some white stuff.

- bamboo worms. Crispy and healthy for your stomach.

Ben looked at the insides of the bowl and was disgusted as Gwen did the same.

- Grandpa? Can't we just have something normal, like a burger? 
- Nonsense, they are great for nourishment and growth.

Ben stood up and signaled a hard no for the worms.
- I'm going for a walk.

Ben strolled off into the forest. Birds were flying around, singing. possums and hedgehogs were walking around. Ben kicked some dirt up and made a little mess around him. He snapped off a stick from a tree and hit every tree he walked passed.

- This is going to be the worst summer ever.

Ben looked up at the night sky and imagined being there with Julie. He was going to ask her out the day before but it never happened. Studying got in the way for him because of the finals. Ben suddenly snaps his gaze upon a star that moved, or so he thought. The alleged, star moved towards him. Ben began to run and jumped into cover. The something crashed near him and he looked up to see what it was. He walked up to it.

- A satellite?

The round-shaped satellite opened up with smoke that fell like clouds on the ground. Ben walked a little bit closer to the subject. The thing glowed and lit up the smoke with a green light. Ben reached forward and a watch flew and attached itself on to ben's left wrist.

Ben Tennyson, with his grandpa and his cousin Gwen, is on summer vacation when he finds a Watch that fell from the sky that lets him change into Aliens.

Gun-Ho took the HSK test and passed level-4.
He was disappointed about the fact that he couldn't reach the level-5's passing score since he studied so hard. However, he knew that he could try again next time so it was okay. When he had failed the level-9 government job exam in Korea, he felt devastated. He didn't feel that way anymore.
"I used to feel like a loser whenever I had failed the government job exam because at the time having a government job was the only way to handle my situation; I didn't know any other way out. I was so scared of being left out, and not knowing what to do to overcome my financial difficulties. Damn Korea's level-9 government job exam!"
 
Eun-Hwa was not sure whether she should congratulate him or comfort him when she heard that Gun-Ho passed the HSK level-4, instead of level-5.
"G-jjong, you did a good job in passing the level-4. It was your first time trying the exam."
"I actually thought I might pass the level-5, but I missed a lot of questions in the listening comprehension section"
"I heard people who passed the level-5 are the ones who majored in the Chinese language in a 4-year college. You made it to level-4 in just a short period of time, and level-4 is not a low level at all. The admission requirement for most universities in China for international students is HSK level-4."
"Oh, really?"
An idea flashed across Gun-Ho's mind when he heard the college admission requirement for international students was HSK level-4.
"Right. That's it!"
"What's on your mind?"
"Let's transfer to a college in China. There is Zhejiang University close to the condo I acquired. I heard Zhejiang University is one of the best universities in China!"
Gun-Ho decided to explore quietly more about transferring to Zhejiang University.
Gun-Ho felt sorry to Eun-Hwa who tried hard in preparing Gun-Ho for the HSK exam.
In appreciating her effort, Gun-Ho took an envelope from the inner pocket of his jacket and put 300 Yuan without showing it to anyone and then handed it to Eun-Hwa.
"Ms. Eun-Hwa Jo, I appreciate your efforts in preparing me for the HSK exam, and I want you to take this. I was only able to pass level-4 because I had a good teacher like you."
"Wow. Is this for me?"
Eun-Hwa took the envelope from Gun-Ho; she seemed to have felt shy but delighted.
 
Korean international students sometimes came to Gun-Ho's Korean restaurant. They couldn't come very often because the food's price there was not cheap. However, they came when they were tired of having Chinese food every single day and missed Korean food. A few Korean students came to the restaurant on a Saturday.
"How're your studies? It's not easy to study while being away from your home, right?"
"Yeah…"
"Try this. It's a Korean pancake."
"Is it complimentary?"
"Don't worry. It's free."
The Korean students ordered a few bottles of beer. When they almost ran out of beer, Gun-Ho brought one more bottle of beer to their table."
"What is this? We didn't order it."
"This is on me. You are like my younger brothers. Enjoy the beer, on the house."
"Wow, thank you, sir!"
"Oh, umm, can I ask you something? Do you know anything about transferring to Zhejiang University?"
"A new semester starts in September, so I guess they are accepting applications right now. I heard that a transfer admission is less competitive than admission directly from high school."
"Do they accept HSK level-4?"
"I believe so. A student with HSK level-4 might face difficulties understanding the lectures in the university, but I believe they can be admitted."
"What about a cyber college. Do they accept a cyber college diploma for transfer students?"

"I knew you told me you would come soon, but I didn't expect you so soon."
"I need to prepare some documents for college as soon as possible."
"A college? What college?"
"I am going to transfer to a college in China this coming semester."
"Transfering to a college? I thought you went to China to work."
"I work there. I am running a Korean restaurant. I can do both studying and working."
"Are you taking night classes? What about the tuition?"
"Mom, stop asking all these questions. I'm handling the situation. I am starving mom. Can I have your Doenjang-jjigae? I love your Doenjang-jjigae. Oh, and this is for you. I bought it at the duty-free shop at the airport. I want you to look younger using this cream."
"Wow! This is made in another country. It should be expensive!"
"I bought one more for sister. Please give it to her when she visits you. And this is for dad. It's a fancy Chinese liquor, called Maotai."
"Oh my gosh! These are all way too expensive."

Jeong-Ah was Gun-Ho's niece, his sister's daughter. She was going to kindergarten.
"Wow. This chocolate is huge. You didn't forget about your niece when preparing all these."
Gun-Ho's mother seemed to be happy, and the sound of cooking from the kitchen became vigorous.
 
Gun-Ho transferred to Zhejiang University at the age of 33 as a third year in the accounting major. He seemed to be the oldest student in the university, and he didn't have a chance to spend time with other Korean students. He didn't have time for it either because he had a restaurant he had to run.
"Big brother, we are going to have a gathering for Korean students. Will you join and support us?"

At 15 year old...….

Vick finished his first year in high school, two years remaining to finish his school.
Vick's summer vacation started, starting of summer vacation he spent most of his time with his younger brother Anbu and younger sister Sara. Vick is elder son in the family, he is very protective of younger brother and sister. Vick loves his sibling more than his parents, he always teaches sibling which is correct and wrong. Vick's parents Arjun and Kaviya are very proud of him, always says that Vick's level of maturity is high compared to other boys of the same age. 

After some days due to his interest in the computer, he started learning computer programs and codes. Vick spends most of his time in studying computer codes.

Vick doesn't enjoy going to business meetings, company events or party. Vick mother Kaviya worried about Vick's spending most of his time with computer, and not going out regularly. His mother constantly forcing him to go to the family gathering or company events, which he refused all. 

 In order to avoid his mother arrangements, Vick planned to go to his close friend Vishal home. Vishal is Vick's classmate and his close friend from middle school. Vishal family is well off and also Vishal parents are business partner/friends of Vick's father. Vishal came to Vick's home during his father business trip to the main city. They become friends. 

Vick's mother worried about his safety, so she arranged two bodyguards to travel with Vick's. Vick's don't like to go with a bodyguard to his close friend home. Vick protested about this to his mother, his mother informed about this to his father and asked Vick to deal with his father. Vick's father called to Vishal father and asked him to take care of his safety. After returning from work Vick father informed to Vick that he doesn't need to go with the bodyguard. He is very happy and his personal maid packed things required for his travel.

Next day early morning Vick started his journey to Vishal home. Vishal home is in City A which is two-hour travel from the main city. City A people main income is from agriculture, so it is surrounded by agricultural fields. And City A has entertainment places like movie halls, game center, computer centers. Vick is happy with his friend caring family and the city with combined city life and countryside life. Vick spends day time in exploring the City A and visiting tourist places near City A and at evening he spends most of his time at the computer center.

Vick spends more than 15 days in Vishal home. On 16th day morning Vick's phone starting ringing, Vick is still in sleep without opening his eye, he started searching for his phone in the table near his bed. 

Vick answered the phone call without looking caller ID. 
Vick: Hello?
Sara: Bro, did you wake up?
Vick: Why are disturbing my morning sleep?
Sara: (Laughing) It seems like you are enjoying your summer vacation.
Vick: Yeah…. It's very good here, so what's up.
Sara: Okay your fun time is over. Return back to home.
Vick: Why? 
Sara: Father asked you to return to home by today evening. Tomorrow he wants to speak with you. He said it's important.
Vick: Okay. I got it. I will return in the evening.
Sara: Mmm…. Take care, come back safe….

Vick cut the call and finished his morning duties. Vick informed to Vishal and his parent about going back home. Vishal parent asked him to have lunch together in the Nila restaurant. Vishal parent likes to go to Nila restaurant once a week, before leaving they want Vick to have some good lunch together.

During lunch, Vishal parent asked Vick to visit regularly and they discussed many topics. After lunch, Vishal and his parent left the room first. Vick went to the restroom before leaving, after coming out of restroom he saw a girl entering the staff room. He was mesmerized by her beauty, he is still staring at the door which she left. After ten minutes Vishal came back to check his friend, Vick standing near the room just staring at the closed door. Vishal came near Vick asked what happened. Vick said 'it's nothing let's leave'.

Vick said goodbye to Vishal and his parents and left to the main city. He reached home by late night, because of heavy lunch he didn't feel like having dinner. He just drinks some milk and went to bed.
Next day morning, Vick personal maid informed Vick about his meeting with his father.
At 9 o clock, Vick left his room to meet his father at a small office at home.

Arjun secretary informed Vick father through the intercom, 'Young Master is here'. His father replied 'let him come in'.
After entering the room, his father asked him to sit. 
Vick father Arjun asked you know about our family tradition right?
Vick: Yes
Vick father Arjun: Okay, Next month you must leave home. I have a few things to inform you, listen carefully.
1. You can select any city where you want to go to.
2. You must complete the school and college.
3. You can select any major in college.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was created for the efficient and effective law enforcement of all the provisions on dangerous drugs or its precursors and essential chemicals. It is the implementing arm of the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB), the policy-making and strategy-formulating body in the planning and formulation of policies and programs on drug prevention and control.
The Director-General, who was currently heading PDEA that year, was based in Cebu. Dino, his best friend's son whom he took into his home after he graduated in high school, had now passed his training as a police officer. Under his influence, he had him assigned as a challenge, in a special task force, the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Force (PNP-AIDSOTF).
The district of Kamelyo was already long reported as a drug den. There were already several attempts to trace down the powerful men behind these illegal trading, but all ended out as futile due to the strong protection from higher sources.
 Dino and his team got appointed to this great challenge of ending and clearing out the long-time illegal business in this place.
Inwardly, he was happy with the appointment. He had someone to help him discreetly in tracing down these trash of the society, which had already destroyed many homes and lives of those willing victims like the users, pushers, and the mules.
Allie became his best friend during his last year in high school since a teacher, who happened to be Allie's coach in writing, adopted him. She was not just Dino's teacher but was also his aunt. He came to live with her when his mother died in a vehicular accident when he was young.
He met Allie when she was still a freshman. Since she spent most of her weekends in their house for coaching, they became close to each other and became good friends.
After his graduation, his aunt became sick and eventually died. Her best friend, who was now the PDEA's Director-General, took him to his home. They sent him to college, and as a tribute to his kindness, he took up a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
Having known ahead of the wickedness of the district of Kamelyo through Allie, he rejoiced secretly. Her place was in the borders of Kamelyo, the direct route by the shoreline towards the factories that employ the people there.
During summer vacations, Allie regularly worked in one of these factories. Brilliant students like got privileges of special assignments as the company's program to help those aspiring students to have financial means during school days.
And because some workers were mostly Ate Elsa's relatives and some were her acquaintances through them, she knew the dark secrets behind the production of these companies. Her knowledge about these evil transactions in the whole district of Kamelyo was the bright hope of Dino to get a rank promotion. Most of all, to make his uncle, Director-General Alfonso, proud and happy for him.

Meanwhile, Leo and Ajie were shivering in fear as they sat down before the desk of an interrogation officer.
"Do you know that the total weight of these drug packets inside this bag is 80 grams?" The officer fixed his gaze firmly on the frightened looks of the father and son.
They both shook their heads vigorously. Anyone could tell through their expressions that they were innocent. Leo's face had already turned red. He wanted to cry, but he did not want to frighten his son more. He regretted the day he decided to send him here.
It was not enough. The next statement of the officer scared them to death.
"Do you know that the law stated it that a penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million should be imposed upon any person, who, unless authorized by law, will be found possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamines hydrochloride or shabu? "
Ajie almost fainted when he heard this. He was here to find success and build a good future and not to rot his dreams inside a prison cell. Leo could not hold his urge to cry anymore.
"I'm sorry, son. If only I knew that this would happen, we should not have come. We are here to find you the best university... "
Ajie did not say a word, but his tears were running fast down his face. His knuckles had already turned white in his effort to stop his trembling.
"Sir... " The tension in the atmosphere halted when Dino walked into the room. He gazed into the eyes of the two innocent victims who were crying silently and then to the interrogation officer.
"Please follow me," Dino said as he walked out of the room, leaving the father and son wondering what was happening.
Their forlorn figure made them look like desperate victims waiting for their verdict of capital punishment.
To the officer's surprise, the whole team of a special task force was already gathering inside a large function room. Officers of the higher ranks were there. What shocked him the most was the presence of the Director-General.
"We will be planning for a major operation tonight..." One of the officers answered his unspoken questions, seeing his bewildered look.

During that night of the commotion in Elsa's place, Dino and his team, together with the higher and major task forces with the presence of his uncle, Director-General Alfonso, were finalizing their execution plan in the arrest of the people behind this great drug syndicate. For many years they had ruled and employed the people of Kamelyo as their troops of drug mules under the cloak of their designation as factory workers and administrators. The plants which manufactured computer parts, electronic components, and metallurgical elements had a mega laboratory of illegal drugs, connecting one building to another, underneath its massive buildings. The protection of their passage routes along the shoreline, which the company owners asked, was only an act of pretense to drive away from the suspicion of the anti-drug forces.
Also, during that night, Allie sent Dino a message about her prediction that Ben, who held a high position in the company, would not delay in sending his revenge towards the man who reopened his old wound caused by a failure of winning the woman he loved before. Of course, Dino would value any of her requests. Not only as a friend who also desired for his success but as the main lead in pointing out the main culprit of the high crime which was long happening in their place.
While some of Dino's men were hiding beneath the thick rows of mangroves to capture the bearer of that bag of drug packets, Allie placed her spy camera into the hole.

Allyza lifted up her eyes to Hayri, her fiance who stood beside her on the deck. He looked back at her with those tender eyes, filled with so much love and admiration for her.

Little did he know, that the woman he loved and adored so much for five years was the one he was long haunting down to kill to avenge for his father.

The days and months had slowly passed by in Zeta City while they subtly carried out the changes between the two seasons.








With the artificial climates of Olympus Station actively working in-place, each Sector had had their own pre-configured seasons that came and went with precise timing following their programmed schedules.








As an example, for the Northern Sector and all the cities built on its level, the seasons had only ever consisted of one spring and one autumn all year round, without the extreme heat nor cold of summer or winter.

For the citizens of Zeta City as well, this month of August was pretty much the beginning of another autumn season.








At this time of the month, the winds blowing pass the roads and buildings were just starting to get a little bit cooler and stronger. Creating a refreshing breeze for many of the city's streetwalkers.








But Inside the huge Orthos Gym in the middle of the city, the atmosphere was quite different.








The coldness of the air conditioning clashing against the heat of the people exercising was creating a contrasting and unique feel of its own that surrounded the many rooms within the gym.








Today as well, the place was bustling with activities.








From casual members getting their daily exercise routine, to onlookers trying out their free-trial classes for yoga and other similar types of programs.








Orthos Gym had successfully created their own community within this large downtown area.

Two figures were fighting each other with speed and intensity that left the rest of the trainers watching slack-jawed with fright and envy.








"...It's only been a few months and none of us can spar with them anymore." One of the largely-built trainer spoke with a depressed attitude.








"Well, whaddya expect? They're monsters from the very beginning, and now both of 'em already got their Abilities and started to train in it. None of us normal people can fight with them now." The middle-aged Dylan replied to the first trainer's comment with a tired look.








"Gene Mod man... I should've focused more on Arena and getting a license when I was younger. Those Abilities look so cool!"








"Give it up now lad, people with no platform to compete in Arena ain't eligible to apply for the Arena Athlete License anyway."








"I know... God I should've joined the Arena team in my college years."

In front of them.








One of the figures, a young woman, was swinging around her bow as a stick to fight against the bare-handed man opposite of her.








Irvine was parrying each and every blows aimed at him with both his arms while trying to find the gap in Medea's defense for him to grapple.

Not wasting the chance, Irvine quickly snatched and twisted her stretched-out hand by the wrist as he encircled her and repositioned himself to her back. Ultimately putting Medea into an arm and shoulder hold.








Even in that stance, he didn't dare to linger too much before he dragged her whole body towards facing the ground by leveraging his hold on her. But at the end, instead of throwing her down with his hands...

A sudden invisible force of impact exploded on Medea's back, pushing her downward faster than anything humanly possible!

Fortunately, her fall was cushioned properly by the rubbery ground that made up the sparring ring, preventing her from registering any lasting pain on her front side.








Behind her, Irvine's hand that had been sticking Medea's arm to her back had already been opened in the form of a palm with leftover dust and smoke floating in front of it.








This was the ability that Irvine had gotten from his Gene Modification shortly after receiving his license.








The official name of it was [Blast].








In the end, Irvine had decided to choose the same Ability and Gene Mod as his future self. The one that he was most proficient in using since a long time ago.








[Blast] was one of the earliest and oldest type of Gene Modification Ability ever available to mankind.








Similar to its name, its Ability allowed the user to compress and pressurize the air and many other atmospheric particles close to or around the user's body until it was dense enough to create a blast of explosion outward.








Just now, Irvine had utilized the most direct usage of his Gene Mod Ability to blow Medea's body down towards the ground by compressing the air in front of his palm.

As their last sparring session of the day ended, Irvine offered his hand to pull Medea up from her prone position.








"Ugh... And he's getting better with grappling technique as well..." She reluctantly accepted the gesture and pulled her own body up with the help of his hand,








"Lost again... How are you so good in using your Ability already??" Medea asked exasperatedly afterwards.








Getting a metaphysical ability after a procedure of Gene Mod was like a person being given a new set of limbs.








The new limbs quickly became a part of you, but because it was something that you never had before in your whole life, at first, most people would hardly have any control over it.








That's why after someone had successfully gotten their genes modified, they would be required by the facility to go through a strict rehabilitation program of sort to get their Ability under control at least in their everyday life.








And this process itself could take between 3 days to 2 weeks depending on the effort of the people getting their Gene Mod.








Even after that process, most people could only barely invoke their Abilities consciously and not let them go off beyond their wills.








However, for Irvine...








Needless to say, he was already very comfortable with the [Blast] modification mere moments after the procedure had been completed.








Even his 3 days of stay in the facility after the initial procedure had been nothing more than a formality done because of the laws regarding Gene Modification.








He could still remember his doctor's stupefied reaction after he'd managed to intentionally create a blast of pressurized air through his palm right after the procedure.








'For me, the first few weeks without this Ability right after returning to the past had felt more unnatural instead...' He silently looked at his hand before turning to Medea beside him.








"Maybe [Blast] is just that much more compatible with me." He shrugged.








"Yea right." On her part, Medea was already very used to his non-committal responses to her questions.








Irvine's proficiency had gone way beyond an athlete's normal few months of progress in utilizing one's Ability.








Even for the diligent and gifted Medea, it was only recently that she'd been able to try and use her [Overload] in a sparring environment where every single second was comprised of many exchanges between movements.








Even then, her usages of the Ability had been way too limited and straightforward, only capable of using it whenever she had planned for them in advance.








On the contrary, Irvine's had looked like a player who had gotten his Ability months, if not years in advance.








In just that last sparring, he had managed to imbue his every punch and kick with mini-explosions of air that was always precisely activated at the moment of impact!








Just those moves alone had increased his damage output to more than double of his normal punches, perfectly covering his previous lack in strength with the Ability.








And adding the fact that Irvine could even use his [Blast] on reflex when he was attacked...








"...It's like you don't even go through the adaptation period of your Gene Modification." Medea told him outright.








"Haha... Actually, don't you think this spar is rather unfair to you in the first place? [Overload] is a harder Ability to get used to in combat. Because it's not a direct offensive Ability."








Unlike [Blast] that was already a weapon-like Ability by its definition, The initial Ability of [Overload] simply allowed its users to quicken their heartbeat and thought processes.








At its first level, when [Overload] was activated, its user will suddenly experience a slow-down in time for the world around them.








Of course, this slowed-down world was just their own false perception of time getting distorted because of their steep increase in focus.








That's why even their own bodies also felt similarly slowed-down when they're in this state.








Every Gene Mod Abilities had different levels to indicate the users' proficiencies in utilizing them.








In its first level, [Overload] was only useful to increase a person's time to think on the battlefield.








Rangers would use it to adjust their pinpoint accuracy faster while Solver would use the Ability to think on the puzzle longer when they're entering this focused state.








In a direct combat, a higher proficiency in [Overload] would allow a person to go in and out of the focused state almost on reflex to predict the opponent's movements and plan ahead accordingly.








And finally, at an even higher proficiency, the users could eventually force their bodies to move at heightened speed even during their focused state where the world felt like its slowing down.








When they did this, from a third-person point of view, it was like the user's movements were getting fast-forwarded in real life.








Of course, the trade-off for this was that the users would exhaust their energies quicker and give themselves sorer muscles right after.








The name [Overload] referred to its ability to overload the user's concentration, body, and thought process for a short period of time.

Compared to it, [Blast] was far more straightforward in its progression through the proficiency levels.








As the users of [Blast] got more skillful with its usage, they could compress a larger and denser amount of air before setting it loose to create stronger explosions.

After the spars, both Medea and Irvine washed away their sweats in separate washrooms available in the gym before meeting back up in the lounge.








The two of them had decided to finish a little earlier today because of one reason.

Tomorrow was the official first day of college life for each of the two of them.








After they had succeeded in becoming Starseeds back in April, waves of invitation letters had come in droves afterwards.








This time, not only were they invited to almost all of the Tier-1 schools in Northern Sector, even some of the top colleges and universities in Central and Southern Sectors had sent them both some invitations.








But unlike Medea who had decided to go to one in Zeta City, the situation had put Irvine in a bit of a dilemma as to how he should choose between the many different colleges.








In the end, as per his original plan, he had decided to spend a full week to tour and explore at least the ones commutable by public transport from his current location.








His trip this time had not only included the three top schools in Zeta City such as Verdant, Ravenville, and Eastern Zeta. But also some of the renowned Tier-1 schools in the neighbouring Epsilon City.








In the end, after a careful look through each of the Arena teams' previous matches and rosters. Irvine too, finally made his decision on the one he'd felt would fit his skillset best.








But funnily enough, even until now, neither Irvine nor Medea had asked each other of their final choice. Even after the both of them had finalized their enrollment procedure for their school.








In Irvine's case, it had everything to do with him not wanting his decision to get influenced by the illusions of shortcuts he could take following the future rising star Medea's footsteps.

The official start of the new academic terms of year 218-219 had long been decided to be on the 27th of August.








On that day, all the schools and colleges all over Olympus would all begin their classes at the same time.








However, for college students with an athletic scholarship, their registration would need to start 2 weeks earlier than everybody else to prepare them and the school's team for the following season opener.








the 2 weeks would be considered the orientation period for new members to smoothen their integration with the team's coaches and older students.








The new team's first ever training camp so to speak.








And for Both Irvine and Medea, that day was exactly tomorrow on August the 13th.








To Irvine, it would also be the day to find out if he would become a teammate or enemy of Medea for the next 4 years.

"You look like a rat bit you, stop hiding and come in," Mr. Dave laughed making me smile awkwardly from my position behind the door of the art room. Mr. Steve was at the long raised bench for graphic design, working on a poster while Toby was typing away on his laptop by his desk. My eyes lingered on him for a while, but I looked away sharply when he looked up at me.

I walked into the room and closed the door behind me before heading to sit on one of the donkey benches close to Mr. Dave who was etching away on a sole to create a stamp.

I sat there for a while, just watching him work. He eventually looked up from his work, giving me a confused frown before muttering a small 'oh.'

"I forgot that I sent someone to call you," he said, giving me his full attention now. I smiled awkwardly before looking down at my lap.

"You don't have a part-time job this summer, do you?" he asked. I shook my head, watching as he nodded at my response. I never got a job during summer — well, I never got jobs at all, I just spent time in the art studio at home, or attended events with parents.

"I was wondering if you'd be okay with working here this summer."

I raised a brow in confusion at his words. "As in, summer school?"

"Yes, you'd be taking middle school if you accept," he said, smiling at me as he folded his hands across his chest. "Usually I take summer school with Mr. Steve for additional pay but I'm traveling to see family and he's not interested in taking it this year since his son is coming home from college this summer."

"I don't know..." I trailed, watching as Mr. Dave turned towards Mr. Steve who was now behind his desk. The dark-skinned man looked up from his computer, smiling at me as he gave me a mock salute.

"Come on, they'll give you money," he said, cocking his brows in a comical manner that made me and the other art teachers laugh. I could hear Toby's laugh, and I suddenly felt a bit self-conscious knowing that he was listening in. I turned my gaze a bit so that I could see him, but I looked away when he turned my way.

"Toby's going to be taking summer classes, he just needs help, so it'd be great if you joined him," Mr. Steve said when the laughter died down. I nodded, staying quiet. Mr. Steve must have seen the fact as being on the plus side, but it was kind of a negative. I've been wishing for the end of the school year for months now, and now it was around the corner — just a day away.

I'd thrown myself into my end of the year exams to prevent myself from overthinking things — wishing that I'd done something differently when telling Toby about how I felt. He behaved as normal as every other day after I'd told him. He did seem to have been affected by it in any way, and I wasn't sure if I should count it as a good or bad thing.

"It'd be great if you said yes. I want extra pay, but I don't think I can take that many classes by myself. We'll be having kids from other schools as well."

I blinked, coming out of my thoughts. I was a little shocked to hear Toby say that. I looked up, turning to find him smiling at me.

"You won't be doing anything you don't know how to. You're just going to guide kids through their classes, most of them just need brushing up," he said before turning his attention to Dave. I turned to Mr. Dave too before looking away at the sight of his expectant gaze.

"We'll give you some time to think. You can come in tomorrow to tell us your decision," Mr. Dave said, smiling again before dismissing me. I got from the donkey and left the art room after taking a look at Toby's direction.

Teach summer school, eh. I thought to myself as I walked into the empty hallway. Most people had already left school since the school day didn't have a definite end today. I spent the rest of the day in the library, and at one PM I decided that it was maybe time to head home. What I didn't expect was Wyatt standing by my locker with his boyfriend and friends.

"Did something happen?" I asked when I got close enough before making to open my locker when they made way for me. Wyatt shook his head, returning his attention to his phone as I changed my books.

"Mum said we should come home together. Xander's there already," he said, making me let out a small 'oh' in realization. Xander was our cousin from Canada that was going to be spending the summer with us until he transferred to the liberal arts college he'd got accepted to here. He was extremely reserved, so I'm guessing that for most of his stay we wouldn't even know he was here.

"Come on," Wyatt said, leaning off the locker he'd been resting on before making for the main entrance. Ji-Hun went up to him, walking by his side while Aiyana and Ben walked side by side behind them. I just trailed behind them, feeling a little out of place as they chatted amongst themselves. We soon made it out of the school building, and then out the school gates as well. The weather outside was warm, and the pavement and streets were deserted.

"I can't believe we're graduating!" Aiyana said all of a sudden from her position up front. She'd made her way there a while ago, and was presently doing a backward walk so that she was facing all of us.

"I just want Felix to come back, to be honest, I'm not excited about anything else," Ben said, making the others laugh. I let my gaze move to him, watching as he shielded the screen of his phone with one hand and tapped against it with the other.

Is he talking to Felix? I wondered, looking away.

"Yeah, he'll be back in a week or two for summer," Aiyana said with a smile before turning away from us and walking in the proper direction as she continued to chat with them. I let my gaze fall to the floor. It was odd being here with them. They just talked to each other, but I couldn't blame them for not giving me much attention. I was a reasonable distance away from them, and I wasn't sure I wanted to talk to them either — I wouldn't know what to say. Social interaction wasn't my strong point. I spent most of my time focusing on my art. I really didn't have any time to talk to other people so most interactions made me uncomfortable.

Now that I think about it, did I even have friends? I talked to some other art students that visited the studio from time to time, but I struggled to remember their names so they probably didn't count. I really didn't talk to anyone but my teachers and sisters.

Eventually, Wyatt's friends dropped off at their homes, and we were left alone together. I still tagged behind him, not sure if it was wise to walk beside him.

"You should talk more."

"What?"

"You know, talk to people more so that they don't think you're stuck up," he said, stopping in his tracks until I caught up with him. "I'm not saying you're stuck up, I'm just saying that it seems that way. Plus, friends are great to have, what do you have to lose?" he asked, smiling at me softly.

I blinked, looking away as I ran a hand through my hair.

"Nothing. I guess," I mumbled, looking up at him. His smile widened, and he turned and started to walk again. This time I went up to him, and we walked side by side. We didn't talk, and the walk home was silent, but it was a comfortable silence.
