In fact the truth was Bertha's father loved Bertha but due to her mother cheating on him and then divorcing him, their relationship changed into a combative one.
Bertha's father loved her enough to fight for custody of her, he loved her enough to allow his wife to take half of his wealth and savings so that Bertha could be better cared for and he loved her enough to pay his alimony to her wife every month even though his wife cheated on him !
Bertha grew up in a predominantly poor black neighbourhood with no father figure and soon ran with the wrong crowd. She did petty theft and fought with other females. She slept around like her mother did learning nothing from her mother except to sleep around with strange men. Only when she was an adult did she get the chance to meet her father, the courts and the government screwed Bertha over and withheld her father's love from Bertha all her life !
By then her father had remarried and had kids with his new wife. Although Bertha's father still loved her but he could not give her his time now. Now Bertha's father had to take care of his new family. As for Bertha's mother she never remarried and finally died of a drug overdose. Bertha was alone but her father had done one last thing for Bertha, he had paid for Bertha to go to college. Yes, Bertha's father had saved a part of his savings for Bertha to go to college. With that Bertha had new hope in her heart and besides she thought she wasn't alone, she still had her younger half sisters and brothers from her father's new family. And she had a chance to go to college and create a new better her life for herself.
But then all of this is just fantasy, when she went to college she found herself rudderless. Bertha did not have any friends, she was lonely and she had too much time on her hand as she did not need to work to pay her tuition for college. It was then she fell in love and got herself a boyfriend in college. But this love did not last very long, Bertha's boyfriend was cheating on her. Bertha's boyfriend called her fat, and she was indeed a bit on the pudgy side. Bertha's boyfriend dumped Bertha for a new girlfriend.
After that Bertha's world fell apart. She had no one, no family, no one to take care of her. Bertha almost committed suicide until a group called the Social Justice Warriors in her college brought her hope. They told her of their grand plans and their agenda to better the world for their own benefit. Bertha could see that these Social Justice Warriors were all hypocrites but she had no one and she was not strong enough to stand on her own. So she followed the agenda of these Social Justice Warriors in college, she got fatter and she dyed her hair pink.
After Bertha finished college with an arts degree on social science, she could not get a job. Even though Bertha required the lowest amount of money and just wanted the chance to work. Once again Bertha's father came and brought her to his family home. She thought she could stay there forever but her stepmother had other ideas. Soon there was arguments in Bertha's father's household and it was always to do with Bertha. Specifically when would Big Bertha leave her father's house since she was already an adult.
It was during this depressing time, a fateful encounter happened as she happen to bump into a robber that tried to rob Wilson Fisk. Due to her saving Wilson Fisk, Fisk gave her a job, a job as a bodyguard. Bertha was enhanced with the super soldier formula so she could get stronger then she was sent to guard Bakuto. This was also the time she met Oswald and her view on life totally changed. Bertha no longer cared about Social Justice Warriors or their agenda, her near death experience taught her life was important. Specifically her own life, so she began the task of answering, "Yes" to anything Oswald said !

In a word, Igor thought of his human masters as completely selfish. They were completely emerged in their own little worlds, and they always seemed to be oblivious to the real issues at hand. The earth could have been crumbling at their feet, but they wouldn't of even noticed.

Keeping in their own realities, having the world revolve around them, the Lennox family was just one example of a new money family in America. The majority of people became even more self involved then the past.

 It wasn't easy to find someone who wasn't a narcissist. 'ME ME ME.' Is what they chanted to themselves on a daily basis.

This was to the point that narcissism became a rare personality disorder because the standard for it had been scaled up very high. The newest DSM book had even revised the section for this drastic change in culture. The world had become all the less sane with the recent innovations.

 Since 2015, the world had gained the following: A smart phone with holograms, affordable flying cars, hover-boards, voice locks, genetic identification, chips with banking and identification data inside them that had been planted inside all humans, and most importantly, GenAlucards.

 With the ability to become completely immersed in a world full of connections, but, initially disconnected from real human interactions, was a double edged sword. People had become more withdrawn into themselves.

Less of them had 'true' friends, and more family orientated people came into existence. These inventions and the side effects of them caused the middle class to either fall into poverty, or become rich. The majority of the middle class, had become poor, whereas, the lucky few, like the new money Lennox family, became stinking rich.

The poor class was even more of a percentage of the country than ever before, not just because of the 20 million GenAlucards living in poverty, but generally because the poor stayed poor, and the rich just kept getting richer. 

With a limited socialistic capitalistic society, the less fortunate had to buy what was on the market and available to them, whereas the rich were able to acquire the best items that were not available to the general public.

The working poor had to go to poor schools with small budgets. College never seemed to be an option, and people only lived with their families unless they met an eligible bachelor/bride.

College became less affordable to the point that only the rich could afford it. With the government being greedy and the officials not giving a crap about the poor, student loans had become unavailable for the majority of people. That was, either that, or with such high interest rates that the poor could not afford to pay them off until death.

GenAlucards had a similar view of the world to the human low class. Their point of view was much more cynical, and just having food and a nice place to sleep was considered 'rich' to them. The GenAlucards had a burning hatred towards humans. They weren't discriminatory against humans, but were discriminated against by humans.

The GenaAlucards thought that the humans complained too much about their dire circumstances. 'First World Problems' was the silly expression they used to explain their situation.

In Igor's wise opinion, of being an elder to most other GenAlucards, he thought the poor were full of shit, and so were the rich. What a horrible race to have gotten control of us.

What he didn't know was that the humans controlled them because the humans were their creators, their gods. His masters seemed very unintelligent to him.

"Igor get me my mirror, I left it on the breakfast table again." The Lennox Mother commanded.

"Of course, Mrs." Why she had wanted to look in the mirror so much was beyond Igor. He rarely saw his face. The servants quarters had no mirrors. The only time he could tell what he looked like was when he went to a store with Mistress Maisie. When he saw himself all he felt was indifference.

 What could that being in the mirror be? Was it really him? A demon with crimson red eyes and burning red hair. A demon with a pair of large fangs and a brown tongue. A demon with a white face and white hands. A tall man with wings. To him, his appearance was bizarre because he never saw himself growing up, and all he had was the word of others that he looked nice. He only saw many other GenAlucards who looked completely different than the humans, whom had, normal average attire and their tan skin, normal shaded eyes (green, blue, brown, dark brown), and brown, black, or blonde hair.

Igor walked down to the kitchen and retrieved Lady Lennox's mirror. It was a small little pocket mirror with gold leaves carved into it. It read 'Mirror Mirror, Corp. Est. 1955.' What an old mirror, Igor thought. The date was March 20th of 2174. It was at least 200 years old. Igor wondered if it was a family heirloom. There was no way to find out.

 GenAlucards weren't granted access to the world internet or the Library of America. In fact, library screened people out at the door using a monitor to view the information about identity in chips inside people's necks and wrists. So, Igor was only left to find books where he could. The only places were the bazaar or in Mistress Maisie's library. She let Igor look at her books on the condition that he kept it a secret. Her books were mostly fantasy, but there were political books and economic books that Igor took an interest in.

Igor went up the stairs to Mrs. Lennox's room. Rapp- a tap tap. Igor knocked his knuckle on a big red oak door. Out came Mrs. Lennox wearing blue lingerie. A woman with no taste who wasn't any good at holding back her impulses.

"Here's your mirror Mrs. Lennox." Igor stared at the ceiling as to avoid her gaze and her look. It would have been awkward to see Maisie's mom piratically naked.

"Oh yes, thank you." Mrs. Lennox then slammed the door. Whatever those two were planning on doing in there went over Igor's untainted mind. He had an idea but made a resolve not to think about it.

"Have you seen my wife?" Mr. Lennox came up behind him. Igor jumped. He had startled Igor. Igor's nails popped out kind of like a cats. He tried to hide them. Luckily he was wearing a pair of black gloves.

"I believe she's in your room waiting for you."

"Hmm. Okay," Mr. Lennox opened the door horrified as to what he saw. His wife was even more of a narcissist then he was. She was looking in a five way mirror at her own body.

"Do I look fat, Harry?" Mr.s Lennox said, the most cliché thing a female would. Harry rolled his eyes and almost laughed.

"You know the answer to that is always the same no matter what the real answer is, so I shall give you no pleasure of me answering it." It was times like these Harry felt smarter than your average man.

"I suppose you think you're clever." Mrs. Lennox winked.

"Yes, dear, I do." Mr. Lennox picked up her hand and kissed it. Then he kissed her on the neck.

"Anyways, unfortunately I have to go to work, I just came by to tell you there's no chance I'll be coming home early enough for our midweek session. Goodbye dear." Mr. Lennox walked out, and Igor was still waiting by on the staircase in the case something drastic had happened because he had become suspicious something fishy was going on in the Masters bedroom. 

Igor was feeling a little aroused. His bat wings were tingling and he felt a new kind of sensation he hadn't before.

"Igor, please come here." Mistress Maisie rang on her caller. He had a little beeper on his black work pants and she could use it to call for him instead of the old way of just ringing a bell. That way he could help everyone else in the house when he wasn't needed by her.

Igor came to Mistress Maisie's rescue. Not that she needed rescuing or anything, but that's what he'd like to think of it as.

"I need you to drive me to my friend's house in the family car."

"Yes." He said.

Maisie hung around a protest group and not a single one of her friends weren't in it. She had become a political activist against the GenAlucard's enslavement, the poor becoming an even bigger population of the United States, and many other political issues. 

Her group, the White Angels, basically became the heroes for the poor, the GenAlucards, and the regular average joe of the United States. What was wrong with their way of doing things was the riots they caused and the people to have fragile mental states. Murder and arson always tended to happen after the preaching of the White Angels' leader Jack Smack. 

He filled their ears with sweet nothings and pleasant thoughts and then turned it around on them with the hatred in his heart, about what was wrong with the country, and how the government wasn't treating its people correctly, about how officials were doing their part to get elected but then were off to fulfill their own political agenda which generally comprised of taking over the world, or getting free stuff from lobbyists.

Igor was one of the only GenAlucards to learn how to fly a hover-car and be safe about it. The regular population of GenAlucards cannot drive and are not permitted to. It all depended on the clearance of the family and their needs. 

Igor took Mistress Maisie over to her friend Genevieve's (Gene for short) house and then was on standby. Igor wondered what she was doing in there. Mistress Maisie was naive about what the White Angel's real motives had been. It was a group to try to take over the government for their own gain. 

The government was on full tilt. It had no favor with the people, and they wanted to overhaul it. Full on anarchy was preferable to it.

After being on standby for two hours, Igor took a book out of his pocket to read. He begun to read 1984 by George Orwell. He found it in a closet buried in Mistress Maisie's room. Why she had it, he didn't know.  Since the date was interesting on the cover (Copyright 1948), and had been so long ago, he had wondered what it could be about. 

He liked to try to learn about history if he ever found stuff to read about it. He had no idea it was about a dystopian government with crazy socialistic views. Which was to him was all too much like his own world.

In the year 2175, Genetic Vampires have become the slaves of humanity. Igor is just trying to live a life of simple servitude, but his master's daughter 'Maisie' has other plans for him.

INT. - SILVER CITY COLLEGE - MORNING

Kinsey did her best not to grin at the tall redhead on the other side of her desk, just from sheer excitement. It seemed like she'd been badgering Gerri forever about the book resting on the surface of her desk, the red leather cover bent and worn with age, writing rubbed off so only the faint impression of where the words had been remained.
The blonde anthropologist had no idea what changed her detective friend's mind. Maybe the acceptance of her own abilities, or the fact they had just dealt with a man who couldn't die-Kinsey still blushed at the memory of Jordan and the effect he had on her-which made it impossible for Gerri to deny what they now faced.
Regardless, the fact Gerri sat at all was a miracle in itself. Sure, her crossed foot bobbed, cowboy boot toe dancing on the end of her jiggling knee, a stern and slightly wild look gracing her face. But she was sitting. About as big a miracle as the moment the red-haired Amazon crossed the threshold of Kinsey's office and asked to talk about paranormals.
The "weird", as Gerri called it. Kinsey wasn't about to deny the very thing she'd wanted since the three friends- their medical examiner compatriot Ray part of the deal-reconnected here in Silver City.
"Here's what I know," Kinsey said, falling purposely into teacher mode, seeing Gerri visibly relax as her voice soothed the bigger woman with its practiced, soft firmness. Kinsey's fingers slid over the book as she spoke, ridges hard under her touch. "There seem to be six main races outside of humans, all with specific abilities and gifts." Gerri shuddered slightly, but didn't comment. "There are also cross races created by the interbreeding of the six main ones, in an astonishingly vast array of possibilities." At least, that was her guess. Telling Gerri she knew this for certain was, after all, a bit of a stretch. In fact, the book she'd received from the exorcist priest, Father Dante Delacruz, told her very little of what she shared with Gerri. Instead, she'd pieced together the research she'd done on the artifacts she studied under the oddly unwatchful care of Simone Paris. Kinsey had no doubt the woman had her own agenda, and working on the project for her made it difficult for Kinsey to help Gerri on her cases thanks to her involvement with suspected drug kingpin and nightclub owner, Julian Black. But Kinsey couldn't seem to drag herself away from the fascinating artifacts she studied almost daily in the Black mansion, though she was certain now she had the majority of the symbols copied and carefully smuggled out of the private room.
Weird how she felt little to no guilt about breaking her non-disclosure agreement with Simone. Maybe if the woman had required her to sign a contract... but this was bigger than Simone, bigger than Kinsey or the Collective of All Souls who claimed ownership of the artifacts. This was, in Kinsey's estimation, the biggest single discovery mankind had yet to uncover. And she planned to be in a position to be of help or guidance when the world did finally find out that humans were only a small part of the population of the planet.
Gerri's hand tightened in her lap and Kinsey swallowed, realizing she'd let her mind wander and had fallen silent for too long.
"What races?" The detective's voice sounded rough, heavy. But, she was still listening. Kinsey had faith in the survival of the Universe when Gerri listened.
She looked down at the book, though she didn't need to open it to rattle them off, the symbols and names now burned into her memory.
"Vampir," she said, stressing the word carefully. "Nothing like vampires of pop culture, though. Nothing undead about them." Kinsey's fingers tapped softly on the surface of the book. "Healers, for the most part. I think Ray might be one of them."
Gerri stayed silent, though her eyes narrowed. They both knew their medical examiner friend's ability to identify the cause of death of some of her patients plagued her. Seeing their deaths so clearly had to be unsettling, something she'd been able to do since she was a child. Kinsey now suspected it was only humans, and not paranormals, Ray had such trouble with. That only those without power were open to being read, their deaths an open book to their friend. But it was hard to prove without an actual experiment and Kinsey wasn't sure Ray was inclined to participate.
"Go on," Gerri said. Not impatient, exactly, but insistent.
"Cubi," Kinsey said. "You remember Aisling, the dancer from the Starlet Lounge?" The detective nodded. "She was cubi." The lack of a heart was a dead giveaway. "They feed on the love of others." Sick, really. "Secret keepers to the other races. Fascinating."
Gerri licked her lips. "If you say so."
Kinsey went on before he friend could bolt. "Danu," she said. "Think elves, but not really." It was the best description she could come up with. "Diplomats, mediators and law makers."
"You talk about them like they fill those roles right now." Gerri was definitely regretting her decision, Kinsey could see it on her face. But, she stayed where she was, hands clenching and unclenching in her lap, foot bobbing at a rapid rhythm.
Kinsey nodded, wishing there was a way to break it to the redhead gently. "Gerri," she said, "they are."
The detective exhaled heavily, rubbing her hands over her face. "That's three."
"Next is the dervish," Kinsey said, her own stomach tightening at the thought. "They are the most mentioned in the book." Tap, tap over the rough leather. "What the church consider devils or demons. Highly charismatic, but heartless, sociopathic, who feed on the souls of others."
Gerri's green eyes darkened as the creature inside her wakened. Kinsey wasn't looking forward to talking to her about that. "Are you thinking about who I'm thinking about?"
The reference was obvious and had been to Kinsey since she finally understood who the races were. "Gideon Orter," she said of the Grand Prophet of the Collective of All Souls.
Gerri nodded, jaw jumping. But, she seemed less agitated than before, more focused. "Two more."
Kinsey hesitated, but forged on when her friend's nostrils flared in agitation. "The bheast," she blurted. The redhead shifted in her seat in response, as if understanding it was she Kinsey referenced. "Warriors, capable of feats of massive strength and speed, powerful intuition and heightened sense of loyalty." Whether Gerri wanted to believe it or not, Kinsey just described her to a fault.
The redhead looked away, out the window, fine beads of sweat standing out on her upper lip. "That's me," she whispered into the sudden quiet.
Kinsey wished she could rise and hug her friend, but knew as Gerri's whole body tensed the comfort wouldn't be welcome. To her credit, the detective exhaled again before turning back, wiping at her face again before shrugging.
"Finally," Kinsey said, rushing on, "the Nightshades."
Gerri cocked her head to one side, frowning. "You?"
"Perceptive," Kinsey said with a wry lip twist, her heart pounding, excitement making her lips twitch with the need to grin. Knowing at last what she was made her giddy with the need to understand more. "The Nightshades are the rulers of the other races, their ability to control the minds of others granting them the power over all." Kinsey shivered inside. Ever since she could remember, she'd been able to manipulate and influence those around her with the subtle touch of her mind. Now she understood why, though wondered at the weakness of her ability.
"And humans," Gerri said. "The seventh race."
Kinsey sat back, hands steepling in front of her as she considered what to say about that. "They used to be slaves," she said, "from what I can tell. But the Nightshades decided to set them free for some reason." That part still confounded and confused her. She waved off Gerri's intake of breath, knowing what the redhead was going to ask. "No clue why," she said. "But since then, the paranormal races have gone into hiding and only the church has made a point of hunting those who show ability, though I doubt even they know why anymore."
"The artifacts you're studying," Gerri said, pointedly refusing to say Simone's name, Kinsey noticed, "how much history are they giving you?"
"More than the book," she said, caressing it once again. "The church's interpretation included hellfire and brimstone, exorcisms and devils born on earth. All dogma and lies, of course. But, I can see how humans-especially coming out of the Dark Ages and into the influence of the Church-might see anyone as different from them as being in league with the Devil."
"Which means we can't really trust what's in there." Gerri pointed at the book, green eyes careful.
Kinsey could see her friend's attempt at brushing this off, could feel it. And sighed, shaking her head. "I have more than enough confirmation from the artifacts to back up everything I've read," she said to Gerri's visible irritation. "While the Church's goals might have been to deny and eradicate all paranormals without fully understanding why, the translations of the artifacts give a solid enough basic history for me to confirm the truth." She refused to back down when Gerri's creature-her bheast-rose in her eyes to challenge her. "Like it or not, we have proof, Gerri. We're not human. And it's likely a large percentage of the population aren't either."
Kinsey let that sink in a moment. Gerri fussed and shifted, scowled and grumbled. But the detective wasn't a fool or so stubborn she'd refuse to accept the writing on the wall. At least, Kinsey hoped not. When the redhead met her eyes again at last, there was enough grim acknowledgment in her gaze Kinsey relaxed.
"How much longer do you need with the artifacts to get what you can from them?" Gerri's question surprised her, as did her acceptance. Kinsey shrugged.
"I'm mostly done now," she said, understanding her mistake the moment she spoke. The detective's green eyes sparked as she dropped her foot to the floor from her knee with a heavy thump, leaning forward to glare at the blonde.
"Then why the hell," the detective snarled, "are you still working for Simone Paris?"
Well, damn it, Kinsey thought. How could she explain to the redhead about the odd compulsion she felt to continue studying the artifacts? That the draw was almost an addiction? That Kinsey herself mostly refused to accept her curiosity was the only thing keeping her at the mansion? Hard to ignore it with Gerri glaring her full in the face.
"Kins." The detective's big hands settled on the desk, intensity coming from her in waves. "You need to get the hell away from that woman."
Kinsey knew and understood Gerri was right. "I know," she said, surprised how low and controlled her own voice was. "I think Simone is part Nightshade too, Gerri. And possibly dervish."
Gerri's fingers clenched on the edge of the desk. "Meaning?"
"She's using me for something outside of the artifact translations." Kinsey had suspected it for quite some time now.
"And you're still there." Gerri sat back suddenly, looking away with her irritation written all over her tall, broad-shouldered body. "Idiot."
Kinsey laughed softly. "Yup," she said.
The two met gazes while the blonde forced the reticence inside her to still and go quiet.
"I'll quit," Kinsey said, surprised at how much those two words hurt to speak. "But you can't turn your back on this ever again, Gerri. We need to deal with situations and issues without you pretending nothing weird is going on."
The detective grunted, shoulders shifting inside her jacket as her pocket buzzed. She fished out her smartphone, checked the screen, frowned. Looked up as she stood, tucking it into the inside pocket again.
"Deal," she said. "Go kick Simone to the curb. And come back to work."

"So why do you want to see my weapon arsenal?" Ivy broke the awkward silence after she order bubble tea and a slice of Neapolitan cake. She was fidgeting a lot with her fork, she never like awkward silence, its brother was much better than this.

Scarlett completely forgot that's why she was here, she so focused on today's agenda that she had a meeting with Ivy. Then again, she didn't want to have the meeting as it was kinda weird to talk to Ivy. Something that surrounded Ivy made her feel uncertain about Ivy.

"Ai, don't worry about the meeting however I wouldn't mind seeing your arsenal as I wonder how skilled you are," Scarlett waved her hand side to side as she too didn't care too much about the meeting, however, she had a feeling that Ivy would is like Jack of all Spades. "Why is dagger and gun your style of choice?'

The question wasn't new, Ivy has been asked that question of few times by Rosalina and her teammates. She didn't have a straight answer to why she uses dagger and gun, it isn't like she has a hidden knowledge of using blade and gun. She was just an odd natural to it.

Seeing Scarlett wave her hand in front of Ivy's face, she snapped out of little thoughts. "I'm just used to it." Ivy left the answer vague as she saw Scarlett's face saying "Give me more" face.

Seeing that Ivy wasn't giving to elaborate on her vague answer, Scarlett sighed deeply before packing her stuff up and getting ready to leave. She was going to be late for her meeting with Ruby, though she doubted that meeting would be of anything but fun.

Ivy wasn't going to waste the Neapolitan cake, she quickly asked a waiter to wrap it up before taking another sip of her bubble tea. She knew that Ruby tends to be curious, strict, annoying, and a lot of other things but her being...stress and scared of something to happen is something strange.

'Maybe I should ask her or spy on her for a bit,' Ivy thought as she received her wrapped cake, she left the cafe and checked the time before groaning. She was going to be a little late for her first class.

"As you know, Apathy is one of the most difficult monsters. They are known to be able to drain the willpower of Hunters and drain your Aura simply by a high pitch scream. Now does anyone know how to attack an Apathy when you are under the influence of the monster?" Professor Leviathan asked the students, most of them were bored or just not paying attention while there were a few that actively listens and took notes. 

The classroom was like a college room, rows of seats being higher and higher with two-entryway behind the students and two at the front on the sides. The room was simple, dark-ish brown seating and floor, very lighten white walls, a digital board that had today's lesson and a table in the middle.

Professor Leviathan wore basic clothing, a white top with dark purple-colored jeans, her hair was either dyed or natural as Ivy could see the imperfection on her head where there were strands of navy and purple just coincidentally where Neko ears would be. From a distance, Professor Leviathan wasn't very short, she was at least five feet and eleven inches tall.

Back to the lesson, no one seemed to raise their hands which slightly annoyed Professor Leviathan. Sighing quietly, Ivy raised her hand as Professor Leviathan called on her. She sat up, making it a bit easy for her voice to reach the whole room. "There aren't many ways to attack an Apathy, however, to wake up from the Apathy's scream, have a friend inflict a small amount of pain through your body and vice versa."

"Very good Miss Ivy, say do you have an idea what to use to inflict pain?" Professor Leviathan was indeed curious about Ivy's intelligence, she was still wary about Ivy having a demon inside but she seemed to control it inside.

"A simple cut if you encounter a few like five or less but be in a dark tunnel with twenty or more and it would be very hard to wake someone up unless they have eye implants or just a cyborg," Ivy spoke normally as she very much had the right to, she has had experience with Apathies before just in mass quantity.

Professor Leviathan nodded as everything that Ivy spoke was right, she was even surprised that Ivy knew about the small increase of empowerment they get for each Apathy that is with them. There was no doubt that Ivy wasn't like most students when it comes to monster information.

Ring ring.

The students started packing up their notes and pencil, same goes for Ivy and her teammates as they were seated together in the middle of the room. York and Eden were already gone as Rosalina was just finishing a few notes about the Apathy monster. Lilith waited beside Ivy as the two waited for Rosalina.

"Miss Ivy, can I speak with you for a few minutes?" Professor Leviathan called, she was alining some stacks of papers before stapling them together.

Hoping that she wasn't in trouble, Ivy walked over to Professor Leviathan's desk as she waited for Professor Leviathan to speak her mind or question. She did wonder why she was called, seems odd to be called on after class unless she was in trouble or maybe something good happened. Who knows? Well, except the readers.

Professor Leviathan stretched her back as she turned to face Ivy, she towered Ivy which in some cases made Ivy annoyed but in most, she didn't mind. Professor Leviathan smiled before speaking, "How much do you know about the monsters in this world?"

The question was surprising, Ivy rarely needed to explain why she knew so much but that may just because she worked alone for a long time. She pondered on the thought before replying to Professor Leviathan's question: "I had my AI search a lot of audio and clips of monsters, I let it play the audio or clips while I'm not doing anything important."

Ivy made sure to not say the gender of her AI as it would be very weird for her to say a feminine word than a neutral word.

"Ah, I see. Got any suggestions for me to know? I may know a lot but my research tends to get limited," Professor Leviathan chuckled as she rubbed the back of her head. She may be the Monster expert when it comes to their anatomy but she still always lacks the more extreme cases of monsters.

"Hm, I say the Book of Remnant is to start with then the History of the Two Brothers, there aren't any clips that I can remember clearly but there should be a video with a monster called the Leviathan," seeing Professor Leviathan's expression, Ivy quickly cleared the wording. "Not you, Leviathan, but a massive sea creature that roams around deep around."

Nodding, Professor Leviathan made sure that her AI jotted these books and the Leviathan clip. She smiled before she dismissed Ivy to her next class.

Sighing a relief, Ivy made quick leg work to reach up to Lilith and Rosalina who were waiting for her. Kind girls, they are. Lilith asked what Professor Leviathan wanted but Ivy simply shrugged it off and said it was nothing important.

The three girls headed off to their next class where they had to deal with someone new today. Or that what everyone says after they have their Sparing period.

As we were walking home, hand in hand, and with a huge smile etched on my face, we recounted our day to each other.
The cold autumn breeze made me shiver as I was only wearing a thin cardigan on top of a shirt and a pair of jeans. I moved closer to Ansel's figure beside me, trying to fight the cool wind with his warmth.
"Are you cold?" Ansel asked, noticing my slight shift towards him.
I nodded in reply. He pulled his hand away from mine and wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulling me even closer to his body. A blush crept up to my face as some people glanced our way because of his sudden action.  
"Hey," I hissed and tried to pull myself away from his arm.
"I don't have a coat to lend you," Ansel said and drew me closer to him, making my little struggle futile. He was only wearing a long-sleeve navy blue knitted sweater with a pair of black pants, and I wondered how he is not cold with his attire.  "This should do."
I sighed and let Ansel keep his arm around my shoulder. We were walking very close to each other, with Ansel's arm wrapped around me, and the glances that the people are giving us made me blush with embarrassment. Yet despite the shame, I felt myself melt beside him as I could feel his warmth against our clothes.
I struggled to keep myself from sighing in bliss because of how comfortable I am. With Ansel's arm around my shoulder, keeping me very close to his body, I feel like we were two pieces of a puzzle that perfectly fit each other.
Every nook and cranny fitting each other seamlessly to make a whole piece.
"I'll be having my internship soon," Ansel all but whined beside me, and I chuckled at how endearing he looked. He was almost foot taller than me, yet I find him adorable with the slight frown on his face because he looked like a sulking kid. "I won't be seeing you that much."
I chuckled a little at his expression and spoke, "Well, they said absence makes the heart grow fonder."
"Are you tired of me already?" Ansel said, pretending to be hurt.
"How could I get tired of you?" I nudged his side a bit with my elbow. "If I could, I'd want to see you every day."
"I'd love that," Ansel sighed and continued, "well, once we started living together, we would be able to see each other every day."
My eyes widened a little at how easy he said those words. We haven't been together for long, yet being with him like this makes me feel like we've known each other for eternity, and hearing those words from him, it just felt right.
Warmth spread throughout my chest as happiness surged from deep within me. I never thought he would be the kind of guy who would plan our future like it is a natural thing to do. Although I don't doubt him nor our relationship, I felt a new sense of security between us when he said those words, especially since he is a blunt person and the type who would not say things that he did not mean.
"What are you going to do for your internship in the future?" Ansel spoke, making me snap out of my daydream.
"I'm not yet sure," I frowned a bit. "I still don't know which companies I should send my application to."
"You once said that you dream of starting up a small business, right?"
"Yup," I beamed at him. "Though I probably have to work for a company for a few years to save up money to start my business. I don't want to use my parents' money. I want to build it from my hard work."
Ansel nodded and shifted his gaze towards me, a sparkle evident in his eyes. "That is the perfect attitude for the future Mrs. Chadwick."
I rolled my eyes at his response, trying to mask the blush forming on my face, yet Ansel merely laughed at my reaction.

The meeting for the contract with the Chadwick Group was uneventful. We discussed the conditions for the contract and other matters relating to it. We also prepared the rough draft of the timetable for this project, and we would be able to finalize it once the other issues are already considered.
The meeting went for about two hours, and eventually, we were almost finished.
At first, I was extremely nervous to enter the conference room. I thought I would fall over my two-inch heels because of how my knees were trembling. I was anxious to see Ansel inside since the last time I saw him, I promised that he would never see me again. I was quite scared that he would treat me coldly, and the meeting would go awry.
I prepped myself last night even though I was exhausted to the bone after working at the restaurant for the whole day. I spent almost the entire night working on the materials for today's meeting and imagining all kinds of scenarios that may happen today. I even thought of how I would talk to Ansel once I saw him.
'Though I'm afraid that I would get tongue-tied the moment I saw him.'
But the moment I entered the conference room until the meeting ended, he never came.
Relief washed over me as I was able to avoid seeing Ansel today. I am not entirely confident that the meeting would be the same if he was here, and fortunately, he was not included in the attendees. As much as I am prepared for today's meeting when the puzzling variable called Ansel is inserted into the mix, I cannot be certain with the results.
The only ones who attended the meeting were those from the procurement department. Since few people attended the meeting, it went smoothly, and the atmosphere was quite light compared to what I had imagined.
Once the meeting finally ended, everyone stood up from their seats, and one by one walked towards the exit of the conference room. The department head, a man in his mid to late thirties, wearing a crisp black suit and a business smile that looked permanently etched on his face, walked towards me.
"I will be sending personnel from our engineering department to supervise the project, especially during the installation process," I spoke as he stopped right in front of me.
"I forgot to say something regarding that," the head of the procurement department spoke. "We would like to request you to personally supervise the whole project meaning, we want your presence during every agenda in our timetable."
My eyes widened at his request. "Me?"
"Yes," he replied. "Since you are the representative of your company and you were the one who delivered the presentation that convinced us, we would like you to personally supervise the project. Also, it would be better for us to have a single contact person in your company in order to lessen the confusion."
Although I would still be hands-on with this project since our client is a huge company, what he just said made me anxious. It would mean that I would have to be there for every agenda in the timetable, and that would also mean that there are more chances that I might see Ansel.
And as much as I'd like to decline, it was a request from a client hence, I replied, "There would be no problem with that. I would be glad to be of assistance." I forced a smile, hiding my anxiousness behind it.
I have to learn how to properly separate my personal life from my work. This project with the Chadwick Group might just be the boost that our company needed, and I should not put my personal feelings before my work if I wanted our company to succeed.
Once the department head and I finished talking, we finally left the conference room. I shook hands with him before we parted ways in front of the elevator, and I was left with a young woman who was tasked to send me off to the lobby.
The young woman looked like she just graduated from college. She has bright eyes filled with eagerness towards the new environment she is in. She looked pretty with her straight long black hair and her brown eyes filled with innocent sincerity.
I can't help but remember my old self with her. I must have looked like her in the eyes of my seniors – a fresh graduate filled with enthusiasm in finally being a part of the workforce.
'Yet that enthusiasm was easily crushed.'
Once the elevator doors opened, the two of us went in. She pushed the button for the ground floor, and the elevator doors closed a few seconds later. Since it's just me and the young woman inside, the elevator was surrounded by silence, and although I am not fond of small talks, I tried to break the silence by asking, "Are you a fresh graduate?"
The young woman turned to look at me and smiled. "Yes, I am. This is actually my first job."
"It is a great feat to work in a Chadwick owned company as a fresh grad." I smiled at her in return.
"It's actually my dream to work here," she said, and her smile grew wider. "I thought it was a pointless dream since I'm not really an outstanding student, but here I am, finally working for my dream company."
She looked excited, like a kid finally able to go to an amusement park. There is a sparkle in her eyes as she animatedly said those words, and she seemed very pleased to finally be able to achieve her dreams.
"Chadwick Group does not hire just anyone," I trailed off once the elevator doors opened. "They must have seen a potential in you." I smiled at her.
"Thank you," the young woman replied softly, blushing at what I had said.
Once we were out of the elevator, the young woman began talking comfortably with me. She told me stories about her first day at work and how she almost fell because she was a nervous wreck at that time. She seemed like a bubbly person who can initiate a conversation with just anyone.
I stopped on my tracks when I saw a familiar auburn-haired woman walking towards the café located on the opposite side of the building. She still sports her signature waves, her hair just falling right below her lower back. With her white sleeveless halter top and a red pencil skirt combined with a pair of dangerously high red pumps, almost everyone cannot help but glance at her.
I never thought I would see that woman again, and now that she's right in front of me, memories from the past suddenly flashed before my eyes, and I could feel myself tremble with anger.
The last time I saw her, she was shouting at me for ruining Ansel's life and blaming me for what happened to him.
In the end, her hatred towards me, and her obsession with Ansel took away my last string of hope.
And after everything she had done, not once did she atone for it.
Perhaps noticing where my gaze was directed, the young woman beside me spoke, "That is Miss Christina, our CEO's fiancé."
When I didn't reply, she took it as a sign to continue, "She's really beautiful, but I find her pretty intimidating."
"I heard that the CEO and Miss Christina have been engaged for so many years, but we don't know why they haven't gotten married yet."
"There are rumors that the CEO was once married, and because of his previous marriage, he is having trouble marrying Miss Christina."
"I also heard that there is a problem with the CEO's ex-wife because she is after his money. Some say that that is the reason why Miss Christina and the CEO haven't gotten married yet."
When I heard those words come out of her mouth, I felt like the anger inside me would burst anytime. Although no one probably knew my identity as his ex-wife, how could anyone just spread groundless rumors like that?
I was about to open my mouth and probably say something that I would regret forever when I was interrupted by the young woman again.
"Look! She's with our CEO right now, Mr. Caesar Ansel Chadwick." The young woman sighed almost as if she is dreaming. "He's eye candy for almost all the employees."
And there he was, in his full glory, standing in front of Christina and conversing rather cozily with her. He was not looking at her directly as if he was searching for something, but when Christina wrapped her arm around his, he suddenly turned his gaze towards her.
Unconsciously, I felt my hand curl into a tight fist at the sight in front of me.
"He is so handsome I could never get tired of his face, but as infuriating as it is, Miss Christina and the CEO looked perfect for each other."
I turned my gaze away from the two. "I don't think I got your name miss?" I spoke, forcing myself to smile at the young woman in front of me.
I guess I was right in my impression of her. She was the type of person who would talk without limit to a person she's comfortable with, yet what I did not expect was for her to immediately feel at ease around me to gossip about her superior's life.
'I somewhat feel irritated.'
"I'm Sheila Mills," she replied, smiling widely at me. "It was a pleasure talking to you Miss Morgan."
"You can call me Alina," I said, inwardly sighing at myself. As much as I hate people who gossip about another person's life, I could not hate this young woman's genuineness.
She smiled widely at me, and we bid our farewells. I was hoping to leave the building as fast as I can in order not to be noticed by the people who I'd rather not meet.
Once I was out of the building, I sighed in relief. I was just standing in the same building as Ansel and Christina a few moments ago, and who knows what might happen if the three of us ever meet. I doubt Christina would take seeing me lightly, and surely, she would instantly report my return to that family.
Right now, I just want to go home and sleep. I haven't been sleeping well the past few days, and my body would soon complain if I don't take a short rest right now. I could report to Luke regarding today's meeting once I've taken that long-awaited nap.
I took out my phone from my leather messenger bag to book for a taxi. Since it's not rush hour right now, I hope I could book one immediately and go straight at home.
As I was fumbling around my phone, I was taken by surprise when a person spoke beside me. "It's dangerous to use your phone while standing along the sidewalk."
I snapped my head towards the familiar deep voice, and my eyes almost fell out of its socket when I saw Ansel standing beside me.  

Alina thought that being with the one she loves was enough, but that was when she was still a naïve girl who did not know the cruel realities of life.

Everyone from the College was swayed as they watched Lady Yuxiao kneel down in the air, bathed in a rush of flames.
Lady Yuxiao used to be a well-known female cultivator. She later married Clan Leader Hua, but no one expected for her life to end up this way. No matter what the relationship between the College and Lady Yuxiao was like, they couldn't help but feel sorry for her. It was a truly horrible thing to witness.
Goddess Wangyue clenched hands into a tight fist and a force of Ice Will descended upon Lady Yuxiao, wanting to exterminate the flame. However, the flame of the divine golden bird which surrounded Lady Yuxiao seemed to contain a hint of Sage Will because it could not be put out. Gradually, the image of her became faint as she began to fade away. She was trying to push through the immense pain. Her eyes were trained on Mr. Du.
"Mother!" Hua Qingqing cried out loudly at the sight of her mother in pain. Tears streamed down her beautiful face.
Mr. Du sighed deeply. He knew there was no saving Lady Yuxiao. She was holding on to her last breath with all the strength left in her body. It was the only reason why she had yet to disappear completely. Mr. Du spoke to her, "Don't worry, go."
"Thank you, Mr. Du." Lady Yuxiao bowed to him and was gone immediately, her image disappearing within the flames.
"Mother!" Hua Qingqing's heart clenched tightly. She wanted to charge out and reach for her mother. However, Goddess Wangyue reached out her hand and cast a Wind spell. The invisible force wrapped around Hua Qingqing's body and brought her to the side.
Ye Futian never thought Clan Leader Hua and Lady Yuxiao would end up this way after letting them go back at Sky Mountain. His cold eyes swept over to the cultivators of the Holy Fire Clan and the young man mounted on the Three-legged Golden Raven, Du Ao.
He had already tried to make a move on Hua Qingqing back on Sky Mountain. Fortunately, he was stopped by Ye Futian. What Ye Futian didn't expect was that instead of hiding and lying about his evil doings, Du Ao made another move for her after leaving the mountain. Only this time, it was publicly. Did this rascal not have any shame? Especially as a disciple of one of Barren State's top powers. Perhaps, he didn't at all about what the people thought, doing only what he pleased. Even if it was wrong, it had to be known to the public. Even the Qing Dynasty needed to come up with an excuse to wipe out the Liu Kingdom.
"Pardon me, but this girl is someone we want, please hand her over to the Holy Fire Clan." An elder illuminated by flames stepped forward. He radiated with hints of Sage Will. His aura was strong. It was he who attacked and killed Lady Yuxiao.
The people of the College looked at the elder. He sounded polite but the look in his eyes told another story. Everyone understood that for the Holy Fire Clan to do something like this, they had no morals, no conscience. They only held back because there were Sages in the College. Otherwise, there would be no talking to them. They would simply kill everyone in their way.
Everyone remembered clearly how things went down the last time the Holy Fire Clan arrived at the College. They remembered just how crazy and wild these people from the Barren State were.
"Scram," Mr. Du spat out in a cold tone. The cultivators of the Holy Fire Clan stared down at Mr. Du from where they were in the air. It seemed that not even a Sage from the Eastern Barren Territory could strike up any fear or respect from them.
"Since it seems like Senior is not willing to welcome us, we'll leave," Du Ao said from his spot on the Three-legged Golden Raven's back. His eyes, filled with a hint of mockery, drifted onto Ye Futian. Ye Futian stared right back. He could feel the disdain and ridicule from Du Ao's eyes.
On Sky Mountain, Ye Futian was wildly arrogant because he had the will of the mountain at his advantage. He used it to kill many powerful cultivators and used the sound of the bell to injure Barren State cultivators.
Now, there were Sages in the Eastern Barren Territory. The ban had been lifted. Du Ao wanted to see just how arrogant Ye Futian could be now.
The people of the Holy Fire Clan left. Du Ao was in no hurry. When the Sages of the clan arrived, everything would fall into their hands, whether it be Ye Futian or Hua Qingqing.
"How presumptuous," said College Chief Xiao. He was angry but couldn't do much. He knew that although his junior brother could stop the opposing party, he had to think about the disciples of the College. Furthermore, College Chief Xiao knew something no one else did. Mr. Qu couldn't stay at Book Mountain for much longer.
The second the ban was lifted, things were already set.
Everyone looked over at Hua Qingqing. Their hearts hurt for the crying girl. The Holy Fire Clan had already crashed the College, one could already imagine what happened at the Donghua Clan. There was no need for questions.
"Let her rest," Mr. Du said as he watched Hua Qingqing. He sighed inwardly.
"Okay," nodded Goddess Wangyue. She led the young girl away and the others also began to disperse. However, the disciples of the Cottage stayed. Mr. Du shook his head. "How are we as humans supposed to keep the desires of others under control with just morals? How are we supposed to control those with the weapons and desire to hurt others without rules and regulations?" When he finished what he had to say, he began to walk away.
Ye Futian watched the teacher's back as he departed. He was beginning to understand the teacher's dreams. These powerful cultivators from the Barren State arrived in the Eastern Barren Territory and lacked even a shred of respect for anyone. They showed no signs of wanting to hide their hunger and desire for power. Neither did they care about what anyone else thought. In order to conquer Hua Qingqing, they went as far as killing her family. Cruel and violent.
A person with a weapon will produce the killing thought.
Because there is no one to restrain them.
It was said that Hua Qingqing, one of the Eastern Barren Territory's three great beauties, is innocent and kind. She didn't know of the evils of the world. Her innocence was reflected in her beauty, clean and pure. She had been protected from the real world since the day she was born, but it was this kind girl that experienced the greatest evil. How ironic.
"Fourth brother, do you have a pen and paper?" Ye Futian asked Xue Ye.
"Yeah," he nodded. Xue Ye then pulled out the supplies from on his person and asked, "Little brother, what are you going to do with it?"
"Copying down a musical score." Ye Futian explained quickly and walked over to a stone table. Laying out the paper, he began to write.
Zhuge Hui and the others grew curious and came to his side.
"This is?" Zhuge Hui asked quietly.
"The Ukiyo Song," Ye Futian answered with a smile.
"What's it for?" asked Zhuge Hui.
"I'll gift a copy to anyone who comes to the College from the Barren State," he replied nonchalantly. Everyone gave him a strange look.
The Ukiyo Song was one of the world's ten great musical pieces. It was left by the Great Emperor. Was Ye Futian really going to just give it out so easily?
"You'll gift it? To anyone?" asked Zhuge Hui.
"Yup, I'll gift it to anyone," Ye Futian said as he nodded in all seriousness. "Actually, I should say I'm lending it to them. I'll make them pay for it later."
"..." It seemed like Ye Futian was preparing to keep track of anyone who comes to Book Mountain.
Perhaps this type of compromise was a form of resignation.
"Don't worry. The Ukiyo Song isn't that easy to learn. I'll also leave a copy at the College for people to copy. From now on, a copy will be given to any Barren State power that comes to the College," smiled Ye Futian. Not even Hua Qingqing who was very talented at the guqin could play this piece.
The reason why Ye Futian could play it was because his will synchronized with the wills of the two emperors on Sky Mountain and received this piece directly. As for the last portion of this piece, it had to be played with Emperor Will. Ye Futian was certain, even if the cultivators of the Barren State received the Ukiyo Song, it wouldn't be that easy for them to learn. Better yet, they probably wouldn't be able to learn it at all.
Zhuge Hui chuckled and patted Ye Futian's head. "Little brother is a special person indeed. I'm liking you more and more."
"Uh..." Ye Futian blinked before sneaking a glance at third brother.
"Jieyu, you don't mind, do you?" Zhuge Hui smiled at Hua Jieyu.
"Senior Sister, if you like him, you can take him with you," Hua Jieyu said softly.
Ye Futian looked at Hua Jieyu as if he had been wronged. Does she have to be so cruel?

Today was a special day for the College. College Chief Xiao, the Sword Saint, and Goddess Wangyue gathered the disciples of Book Mountain, Sword Saint Mountain, and the Moon Clan, respectively. The enormous crowd gathered at the square on Book Mountain and focused their attention on the group of people at the front. College Chief Xiao, the Sword Saint, Zhuge Hui, Gu Dongliu, all the mountain elders, and Goddess Wangyue stood on an elevated plane looking down on everyone.
Many people had heard rumors and knew that College Chief Xiao had something to announce today. There were already large groups gathered at the foot of Book Mountain. They looked up at the sacred mountain, the holy place of the Eastern Barren Territory.
News of what happened at the Donghua Clan had already spread. The ruthless doings of the Barren State cultivators greatly angered the peopled. Hua Qingqing was now staying on Book Mountain. Had it not been for Mr. Du, Hua Qingqing would have been taken by the people of the Barren State.
But could the College really stop them?
"From today on, Sword Saint Mountain will merge with the College. The disciples of Sword Saint Mountain will enter the College for cultivation. Anyone who objects can leave now." The Sword Saint's voice resonated on Book Mountain, shocking many.
"From today on, the Moon Clan will merge with the College. The disciples of the Moon Clan will enter the College for cultivation. Anyone who objects can leave now." Goddess Wangyue's voice rang out right after.
"From today onwards, the position of College Chief will be held by the Sword Saint. Goddess Wangyue will take the position as Vice College Chief and aid the Sword Saint in running the College, teaching the youth of the Eastern Barren Territory, passing on their knowledge," another voice spoke out. At the foot of the mountain, many people lifted their heads to look at the long stairs in front of them. The three great powers of the Eastern Barren Territory had announced such big changes today.
From this point on, the Sword Saint and Goddess Wangyue were in charge of the College.
At the bottom of the Book Mountain stairs, a few groups appeared. The arrival of these three groups had many people in shock. They were the Qianqiu Temple, the Witch Clan, and the Ji Family. With the arrival of these three groups at Book Mountain, the great powers of the Eastern Barren Territory were now all gathered at the same place. Although Mr. Du had no thoughts of ruling all of the Eastern Barren Territory, the reality was the entire Eastern Barren Territory already belonged to the College.
The three groups walked up the stairs and arrived at the square.
"We have come to congratulate the College. We hope that the Sword Saint will never forget your true self and your initial intentions." The abbot of the Qianqiu Temple held his palms together and bowed in the Sword Saint's direction.
"Abbot, you are too polite. I will keep your teachings at heart," the Sword Saint said as he returned a courteous bow.
"The Witch Clan has come to congratulate the College."
"The Ji Family has come to congratulate the College."
The other two powers expressed their congratulations as well. In the large crowd, the Witch Clan's Gu Biyue had a smile on her face as she looked in Ye Futian's direction. Who would have thought this day would come when they first met in the Ancient Barren World?
A distance away, the wind picked up and clouds rolled in, catching the attention of everyone on Book Mountain. They all turned to look in the distance. What they saw was a large group of people riding closer to Book Mountains on clouds!


In a time when the Divine Prefectures of the East Sea were in great disarray, Emperor Ye Qing and Donghuang the Great appeared to save the day. Under their rule, the prefectures united and all nations as well as  their kings have been controlled. However, the legend of these two great heroes becomes altered when Emperor Ye Qing's name is wiped from the history books after his sudden death. All statues and images of him were destroyed and his name a taboo. Only the legend of Donghuang the Great shall live on.                            

Fifteen years later, a young man by the name of Ye Futian begins his journey in search for his true identity. The legend of Futian was going to be one for the history books.

Then something else occurred to Arthur. "Miss S, if I'm not mistaken, weren't you looking at the Book of Thoth earlier? Why did you do that? Is there anything you're looking for inside the book? Also now that we're on that topic, how did you get into this place before midnight?"
Miss S. repeated her shrug. "Who knows."
It was obvious that Miss S had her own agenda but Arthur couldn't yet tell whether her agenda would be detrimental to him or not. Her intention was hard to read. Technically, she had sent him on a death mission but it was also due to her petition that Arthur got an introductory class to the vibrancy and dangers of the mythical world. In a way, her petition was a tutorial of sort... albeit one that could cost his life if he was not careful.
In any case, currently he still had no way to force the information out from Miss S. so technically, there was nothing he could do.
"There's plenty you'll need to do. Like I said earlier, refer to that book of yours." Miss S. said before turning around to leave. Arthur did not stop her from leaving because temporarily their transaction was done. He had held up his end of the bargain and so did she. Maybe their paths might cross again in the future and based on the many evidence, the chance of that happening was very high but now there was nothing else to be said between them. Everything that could be said had been said. 
Before she stepped out of the store, she turned back to tell Arthur, "By the way, that other petition, the one by Mr. M, don't accept it yet."
"Huh?!" Arthur was surprised by this sudden advice. His natural reaction was to ask, "Why?"
A meaningful smirk appeared on Miss S.' face and she said, "Because you're not ready yet. I'd hate to see that pretty head of yours roll on the floor. Wait until you have the blessing of a dryad then perhaps you can try it out. Til then... Adieu." 
Miss S. proceeded to close the door and seconds later, Arthur could hear the sound of horse neighing before it galloping away into the distance. 
Based on what Miss S. said, Arthur was going to have many information to process, in a situation like this, the best method was to do it step by step and that was what Arthur did, starting with the most immediate, the very last thing Miss S. mentioned before she exited the Midnight Emporium. 
She warned Arthur from taking the petition by Mr. M because he was not yet ready for it. Arthur considered the possibility of Miss S. lying to him and ultimately, he'd figured there was no reason for her to do so, although at the same time, Arthur could not really fathom why she was looking out for him either. On off-chance that she was right, Arthur believed there was less harm coming from believing her. 
Other than that, she also mentioned he needed the blessing of a dryad before he could take on Mr. M's petition. He wondered how did Miss S. know about such information but he had no one to ask. Perhaps she saw something when she was looking through the Book of Thoth earlier, that was the only logical explanation Arthur could come up with. 
After all, the book presented different level of readability depending on the reader, perhaps Miss S. had access to more information than he did. It would make sense since she was more familiar with this mythical world than Arthur was. 
Then, there was the case of a dryad's blessing. Arthur did know dryad was a mythical woodland creature from Greek mythology but beyond that, he did not know that much. Thankfully, he had his handy phone to help him. 
According to internet, dryad came from the Greek term, drys which signifies oak. Therefore, at least in Greek mythology, dryad refers to spirit of the oak tree. However, with modernization and popularization, the term has come to known as the umbrella term for all tree spirits. They are considered very shy creatures and prefer the accompaniment of nature than disturbance of humans.
Arthur frowned when he read that piece of information. Now how was he going to gather the blessing of a dryad, was he going to go around hugging trees to ask for a respond?  
Without a concrete lead, Arthur didn't know where to start. This could be a crisis depending on the petitions in the Book of Thoth. Last time he checked, there were only two petitions available, one by Miss S. which he had completed and the other, by Mr. M. 
If there was no new petition added to the mix, then what was he going to do? Wait until a dryad appear in his life? 
With a worried heart, Arthur turned towards the Book of Thoth. When he opened to the page for Available Petitions, his heart arrested. There were more changes than he could have expected. 
The first thing that caught his attention was a new section underneath the Available Petitions called Special Petitions. The line of explanation said the following, "When you are out and about in the world, you might come across mythical creatures that would require your aid. Assisting them will earn you the goodwill of the mythical community in general and the Midnight Emporium will reward you accordingly. 
"These petitions will be more obscure than normal petitions because the clients wouldn't know they're technically the clients. Therefore, you'd need to figure most of the things out yourself. 
"Of course, the contribution you've done will draw parallel to the effort you'll receive. Completing a Special Petition will earn you a better reward than a normal petition and the reward will generally revolve around upgrading the Midnight Emporium and your ability to manage the Midnight Emporium."
The first thought that crossed Arthur's mind when he read that long introduction was only one--This is such a scam!
