The plan for the month was set. Aser needed to cultivate and study, and perhaps he also wanted to spend a few hours chatting with Julia, but there wasn't much else for him to do. The atmosphere in First Son's Academy had grown over the last week. The notice had spread throughout the whole student body, including the large amount of seniors who were still outside with their families. 

The additional rewards for the trials had also been set, which served to amplify the boiling blood of the students. Even though the rewards were mostly extra points, for higher ranked trials, it included special Earthly Treasures of the Initiate Grade! 

The students of the Academy weren't nobodies either. After investigating for a few days with their family's forces, most had understood that this was a way to both curb the uprising of an unknown genius, as well as provide a platform for their children to shine. It seemed that the operation to strike down on Aser's Gold Standard Scholarship was bound to happen. 

Aser, being socially awkward and having an almost nonexistent friend circle didn't realize that he was the center of the storm currently going through the academy. His days were spent monotonously until he discovered a certain book. 

It had been a fortnight since he had arrived at this institution of mandatory education. While browsing through the jungle of leather bound texts to locate the next one he needed, our young protagonist stumbled on to a book that he couldn't understand. It was laying as a scrunched up doll abandoned in the corner of a shelf of the Social Sciences aisle. 

Curious as to why a haven for knowledge would treat one of its children in such a way, he decided to check what it was about. Opening up the wrinkled magazine-like copy, Aser discovered that it wasn't a book of texts but illustrations! These were rare on the first floor from his experience, and so he couldn't understand why it would be abandoned like it was. 

Flipping through the pages, he saw images and illustrations that he simply couldn't comprehend. It looked like a Cultivation Method, but this was the most abstract cultivation method he had ever seen! It even required two people. It was already late in the evening, so Aser simply decided to take it back with him to the study room and ask Julia. 

The two of them had been spending more time together, as they were the only peers they knew. Aser also realized on the first day they talked that Julia stayed in the library for most of the day, so he invited her to his study room to read in relative comfort. Not finding anything wrong with his invitation, the little girl had readily accepted and was now spending most of her time studying in there with Aser. 

Getting back into the cozy study, the boy glanced at the orange hued light streaming into the room as the signal to the end of another day. He peered at the auburn haired little girl standing in front of the bookshelf selecting another book to read. Noticing the boy coming in, she turned around to greet him. 
"Hey, do you have anything here that's on Rotational Velocity?"

"Yeah, check the third shelf near the right end, there's a book by Professor Matthew there. Think it's called 'Varying Mathematical Conjectures on Essence Velocities'. But before you do that, help me research this cultivation art I found. I can't understand it at all!" Aser moved to the table and put down the flimsy book he found. 

Curious and surprised that there would be such an item on the first floor, Julia moved to the table to find a book with different illustrations of men and women in weird poses. They seemed to be either fighting or cultivating, but the methods looked very crude. The illustrations didn't help either for the kids, as the man and woman in them seemed to be in bliss. 

It was only after going through the pictures a few times that they discovered what was wrong. The couple were naked in the drawings. Not just naked due to showing positions, but rather naked due to the painter drawing them as such! It didn't take long for the kids to connect the dots, and gradually both of their faces turned red in embarrassment. 

"Shameful! Aser you are too shameful!", Julia cried and ran away from the book. Aser didn't know what to do either as he took a step back, as if fighting against a horrifying enemy! 

"Julia, I uhh, I didn't know! I really didn't! I'm getting rid of this abomination right now!" Aser used one of the few skills he had, [Essence Flash] on the vile material in front of him. Since he was trying to just burn a book, he only used very small motes of essence clouds to trigger the skill, resulting in a quick flash. Opening his eyes, he saw that the insidious book was only a pile of ashes now.

Feeling the awkward atmosphere, he decided to clean the table and continue his studies while Julia calmed down. Just as he sat down with an actual proper material, a notification from Ashes alerted him.

[System Report: New subject of study introduced to the library: "Illustrations of human reproduction"]

The two notifications came as a surprise to him. The first one, he was happy about. But the moment he read the second one, he froze like a statue. 

Gritting his teeth, Aser sent a thought. "Ashes."

[Yes?]

"What is the meaning of this?"

[You've advanced your skill for Essence Flash due to using it in a controlled method.]

"You know that's not what I'm asking about", the boy spat out, bubbling with embarrassment and anger. 

[A book has been generated in the library with the details of the book that was recently incinerated.]

"Yes, I know that," rubbing his temples, "why did you generate it?"

[From my understanding from the Essence History, a young man will find it useful. Since it is going to be useful for you in the future, we need to have a copy of it in the library.] the system replied in a matter of fact way. 

"You know what, fine, whatever!" 

Deciding to simply let Ashes do what she wanted, Aser continued reading his book, the air still filled with awkwardness. Unfortunately, Aser had no idea how to fix it.

Beasts had unlocked their System during the Ancient Era, and were once the rulers of the world. A catastrophe had caused them all to go into slumber, ushering in the Venture era where humanity started leaving their settlements to explore. As civilization progressed and tensions rose, humanity fought with themselves for the large swathes of territory. Near the end of the Conquer era, the beasts started awakening from their slumber and pushed humanity to the brink of destruction. Through efforts from humanity's top leaders, the system was unlocked for man, and thus began the era of Enlightenment. 

The goal of everyone in this era is to get enlightened, to seek Ascension. Now every child, every family, every influence seek to be an Ascended like the heroes of their world. 

Aser, an Unknown child raised in an orphanage in the Southern Seas. Like others, on his 7th birthday, the system had awakened in his mind, but he realizes he's special. As he explores the mysteries of the System, our protagonist strives to excel, to prove his worth in the world of Gigantis, to find his parents and to figure out the path to Ascension.

"Are you ready?" Zamiel looked at Euphorion, who had managed to dress decently this time.
"I don't know how you can wear this." He complained while adjusting his shirt.  
Water demons covered parts of their bodies with what looked like fish scales, so he could understand that this kind of clothing was a unique experience for Euphorion. He had probably not been on land for too long.  
"Well, I think I am ready now." He said, giving up at last.  
Zamiel looked at his blue hair. "You need to do something about that."  
Euphorion changes his hair to a golden color.  
"And the nails." Zamiel added.  
Euphorion's nails were too long, and that wasn't even his demon claws.  
He looked at his hands. "No human will see them." He assured. "Anything else?"  
"Yes. You forgot the shoes."  
Euphorion stared at his bare feet. "I don't need them." He said.  
"I know but it is strange to walk around barefoot."  
Without a word, Euphorion slid his feet into the pair of shoes that Zamiel gave him, and then they were both ready to leave.  
Euphorion was like a child who had never been outside. To be fair, he hadn't been on land for a very long time, and things looked much different now.
Zamiel would always feel a bit misplaced every time he woke up to a changed world after a deep slumber. Euphorion must feel the same now, but worse.  
He would be fine in a while. Demons were very quick to learn and adjust because of all the information available through the human mind.  
Zamiel showed him around until Euphorion was satisfied and then they went into a tavern to have something to eat and drink.  
Wherever they went, they drew too much attention. As soon as they went into the tavern, it became quiet and all gazes turned toward them.  
Curious, mesmerized and lustful gazes stared at them and Zamiel could hear what was running through a few people's minds.  
"Oh, they are lustful." Euphorion pointed, also able to hear their thoughts.  
One intoxicated male whistled and gestured for him to come with a finger, and the other ones sitting at the table laughed. Zamiel gave them a look that made them swallow their own laughter in fear.  
The room turned silent as they made their way to a table and sat down.  
"Alright. I know I said it is too hot but you are making my teeth shatter." Euphorion whispered.  
Zamiel didn't realize what he was doing and stopped.  
"I think being without your mate is making you sensitive. I am sure you are used to this." He continued.  
Zamiel sighed and relaxed. Everyone in the room eventually relaxed as well and the loud chatter started again.
Euphorion and Zamiel were served food and drinks and Euphorion was still getting used to the cooked food. Ancients rarely needed to eat. It was only for enjoyment, and Euphorion enjoyed certain things more than others. He left all the meat aside and ate the vegetables. It was probably the closest to what they ate in the oceans.  
"What is this?" he asked, picking up the bread.  
"It is called bread. It is made of things you won't know."  
Euphorion took a bite, and then grimaced. "It tastes awful." He said, forcing himself to chew and swallow the piece.  
"I don't like it either." Zamiel agreed.  
"So what is your plan exactly?" Euphorion asked, this time communicating with him telepathically.  
Euphorion had offered to help him because, well, he hated Lucifer. Whether he could be of help depended on whether his suspension turned out right or wrong. He was waiting for an answer from Irene. He had already told her what she needed to do.  
If his suspension was right, then Euphorion would be of great help. His plan would be perfect.  
"I will let you know as soon as I have the more information." Zamiel told him.  
Euphorion gave him a look. "It better be a good plan. I don't want to waste my time."  
Zamiel chuckled. Time was the only thing they could waste without regret.  
"If my suspension is right, then my plan will be one you will enjoy very much. It will be worth the wait." He told him.  
"Good. But what if your suspension turns out to be wrong?"
"Then I'll just have to wait until the enemy destroys himself, like you suggested." Zamiel said.  
"I hope your suspicion is right then. I am here to enjoy Lucifer's suffering."  
On his visit to the ocean, Euphorion had showed him the history of all djinn, including the devil. It was carved into stones and it was the first time Zamiel had seen the illustrations. All this time, they had been hidden under the ocean.  
Zamiel found out details he didn't know before, especially about the devil. There was one specific illustration that had caught his attention. The devil eating the forbidden fruit. That was where his suspicion came from, together with a few more unclear illustrations about the devil.  
The illustrations were mostly symbols and had to be interpreted. It was simple. If someone laid out too many traps, they would end up falling into a few themselves. And the devil was no exception.  
"Have you found your mate?" Zamiel asked.  
Euphorion shook his head.
"Did you mate with someone?"  
"No."
So he was alone all those years? Usually when demons didn't find their mates after a long time, they mated with someone else to reproduce.  
"Maybe you will find her here." Zamiel said, knowing it would annoy him.  
Euphorion frowned.  
"Maybe your mate isn't a water demon, or a demon at all." Zamiel said.  
"What are you implying?"  
"What if your mate is on land, but you are always in the waters? And what if she is human?"  
Euphorion grimaced. He didn't like the idea. "I am not looking for my mate, and if I happen to find her, I pray it is not a human. Their emotions are unpredictable and it could end up in a heartbreak."  
Zamiel understood Euphorions' concerns. Humans weren't bound by the mating bond as demons were.  
"There is a risk of getting your heart broken, but it is a risk worth taking."
"You say that because your mate is human." He took a sip from his drink. "And witch. And the devil's granddaughter. What a mixture. Imagine your children."  
Zamiel froze. Children? The thought of having a child made him nervous. That extreme, overwhelming love for his child, he could still feel it until today.  
His most vivid memory was when his daughter was born, and he held her in his arms for the first time. For a long time that memory was replaced by the one of holding her dead body, but now that he got to meet her he could think of the good memories instead of the bad ones.  
"What about you? Don't you want children?" Zamiel asked.  
Euphorion chuckled. "Those small being? No. I don't think I can handle them. They are better without me."  
Zamiel smiled. This was a common problem with ancients. After living for so long, it was easy to become emotionally detached. To see things as simple or none important. To stop enjoying and appreciating the small things. Ancients could fight other ancients, but innocent beings as children would scare them.  
"You and Heaven should just come and live in the ocean." Euphorion said.  
His plan was close to that. The ocean was part of the solution.

The Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations was expensive and normal outer disciples weren’t allowed to read it, but with Pill Master Yun Yao’s help, this wasn’t a problem.
Zhao Feng soon received the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations, but he paused when he saw it.
This book was the size of a horse cart, and contained the elements and other information about different types of plants.

All in all, the Ten Thousand Plants Illustrations made Zhao Feng realize that there was a greater world out there, and from what he felt, the Clan he was at was only a tiny corner of the true world.
“Thank you for making me realize how colorful the world truly is.” Zhao Feng’s face was flushed red as he returned the book.
Yun Yao’s expression was extremely weird. She didn’t think that Zhao Feng would return the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations so quickly.
“Don’t you want to read it a bit more?” Yun Yao thought that Zhao Feng would realize how hard it was and quit, but Zhao Feng’s expression didn’t seem like that.
“It’s fine just looking at it once.” Zhao Feng smiled, but he didn’t explain because a normal pill master needed decades to memorize the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations.

“Challenging a substitute inner disciple?” Yun Yao was surprised as she looked at Yun Mengxiang for confirmation. The latter nodded her head since she knew this was true.
“Ridiculous! Your talent in cultivation is only so-so, you should put it on pill making instead,” Old Man Guan said.
No one thought Zhao Feng would win since he only had normal talent and he was a new disciple.
From Old Man Guan’s point of view, Zhao Feng would become his disciple in the future and he didn’t want the latter to lose face.
“First, I have confidence in this battle. Second, I have learned what you’ve taught me.” Zhao Feng didn’t retreat.

Yun Yao expression was extremely weird, she didn't think that Zhao Feng would return the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations so quickly.

Yun Yao thought that Zhao Feng would realised how hard it was and quit, but Zhao Feng's expression didn't seem like that.

"It's fine just looking at it once."

Zhao Feng smiled, but he didn't explain because a normal pill master needed at least tens of years to memorise the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations.

For the next two days, Zhao Feng quickly looked through the contents of the Ten Thousand Plant Illustrations in his mind and he had a bit of understanding on how they were used.

No one thought Zhao Feng would win since he only had normal talent and he was a new disciple.

From old man Guan's point of view, Zhao Feng would become his disciple in the future and he didn't want the latter to lose face.

Light Telepathy: That's right, Mathew gave me the name Light, and like him, I've also been watching over the children of this Youth Residents.

Astral's Thoughts: I... I understand, but can't I even try? I understand that death would almost be certain. But I can't give back the favor this kingdom has given to me without the Symbiotic. I can't use art as the payment for my life. . .

And then there were the Papers spread around the middle of the room, some filled with different kinds of texts, and others carried with them illustrations drawn using a coal pencil.

Then there were the pieces of wood some shaped into small-scale sculptures of animals or pieces of machinery, and the others were broken pieces of furniture or scraped sculptures that were laid close to the balcony of the room.

And there were the metal pieces that fell from the work table on the balcony, that's occupied by ingots of different metals, and below the tables are the scraps and small furnace, used for the light metallurgy I play around with.

And, lastly, there were the different kinds of tools laid about close to their respected material like the pallet, paintbrushes, and coal penicils next to the piled papers. The carving tools next to the pieces of wood. The molds and small-sized series of mallets and other metalworking tools on and below the work table.

It was a natural mess that I'm too lazy to organize yet I do clean them. My thoughts Swirled as I took off my shoes, as I entered and changed into my foot paddings then laid on my hanging bed, things tightened, like the tensed rope sounds, while the metal parts creaked, and their laying I thought.

Astral's thought's: So, 3 years have passed and I've not met another system user. . .I've done everything I can think of, to get stronger. I only wish it's enough to not get eaten but that doesn't relieve me of my fears.

(Unknown)Nightguard: I'll take him tonight, it'll better for him to be recruited as early as possible. . .

Mathew: No, it would be too fast for him. He's just turned 15. . .

She moved her hand stopping the excuses from continuing from the man Infront of her. But he continued.

Mathew: Vanessa. . .please.

His voice turned to that of a pathetic ugly guy asking a beautiful girl that's beyond his league for a date. She responded with an exaggerated sigh, while she fixed her Moon night hair behind her ear.

Lady Vanessa: Father, ill tell you why I'm in such a rush. Right now, the Nightguard is too fractured, with no one faction being strong enough to rule the rest. That's why as the nightguard bicker other Monevian "Guard" units started to create power plays.

In this age of information and escapism, i ask. . .  how many would want, to willingly die like a hero, and then be able to live again? and then in this next life, you'll be given the chance of becoming a god. so, would you take it? or would you sit and read my adventures! through such an event where I fought and loved others who were equally given this chance. as I watched them be eaten by their strength, and be conquered by insanity, and then taken advantage of by others, and then becoming regretful souls in their new life. . . I sadly watched all of this, while being an incapable heroic artist to weak to help anyone. . . but I did succeed in telling their story, in turning their memory into my everlasting Art. at least I'm happy to remember that in the end, In a small way I did help.

Ashley retained her gaze back to his face and saw his mischievous smile. She never expected him to be this playful for an old man. 
Weren't old people supposed to be wise? Why was this man the complete opposite? She had expected people with his appearance to hold a staff and say some words of wisdom that she would never forget her whole life but… look at what this old man did to her! He laughed and played with her like she was some fun game!
Did vampires with old age differ from the old people from Earth by this much? If they did, then vampires were more unstable than what she had thought... 
Suddenly a thought popped up on his mind. 
'Will Ramier also grow old like this?' 
If he did then, he would the weirdest of them all. Imagine, a crazy old man like this—with powers... It spelled C.H.A.O.S. 
And why was she thinking of him anyway... Like he wasn't even the type to be like this. To be this transparent. 
She shook those thoughts from her head, remembering their silent war. 
"Where is it?" she asked. 
"I'll tell you but— why children's books? With the thousands of books here in the library you chose children's books among all of them?" he asked. 
"Because why not?" she said straightforwardly. 
Silence... 
"Fair point..." he said and became silent again. 
Like he had another personality change, he switched back to his old demeanor which Ashley stumbled upon. He completely ignored her again and crouched down to fix some things on the drawers of the counter. He just pointed a certain direction and spoke. 
"On to the farthest corner to the left that is where the children's books are..."
Ashley just nodded but felt like she had just come out of a roller coaster ride. She suspected that suffered from dual personality disorder...If this was true, she wasn't even sure which personality she liked better. 
But she knew the answer, she was just pretending to be clueless... 
It was the crazy one. He was a lot more fun.  Though it can be a bit troublesome, it was a lot better than being ignored.
She turned on her heels and started walking towards the location he told her about.  
Meanwhile, Nexus looked at her retreating back. He gave a small smile and observed Ashley's appearance. From her black hair to the noticeable atmosphere around her. He decided that he should remember her. 
He gave her a verdict in his mind. 
He concluded that the rumours about her weren't true. In fact, she looked like a nice young woman and the aura around her... He knew she was a pure soul, someone who isn't corrupted by greed. 
"She isn't unfavorable. She's just different from all of you. " he murmured and noticed that she was already far away. 
Ashley,who was already making her way towards her destination, thought back on the question the librarian asked her a while ago. 
So... Why did she choose the children's books? 
She didn't give him a clear explanation and just asked back, why wouldn't she? 
The truth was, it was the first thing that came to her mind when the Baron asked her to get books with big writings. 
It wasn't because she was particularly fond of them, it was just that they were that most convenient to start practicing reading with and she didn't really care. 
Story books, especially those that were made for young children were mostly written bigger in size. Adding the fact that they had illustrations was another bonus... It wasn't because she was lazy but she loved books that had drawings on them. As she had said before, she was a fan of art. 
And some books for children were actually very entertaining. Though the moral of the story of these books were predictable, they were still considered as classic and were really true. People just don't realize how important those were. 
Besides, it reminded her of the memories from her childhood she wished to cherish.
Ashley smiled bitterly. 
It was better to not think about it anymore. 
Ashley decided to focus on her surroundings and she noticed that she had finally arrived before the section where the story books were. She finally found it, after minutes of walking. 
She spent quite a long time looking over and picking out the books she would use. She picked out a total of three books that had clear illustrations and big lettering on them. One book was a short epic and the last two books were fairy tales. 
Ashley discovered something both interesting and odd about the books. Some stories and fairy tales were already known by her since she was a child. Stories like Cinderella, Snowhite, Rumplestiltskin and other fairy tales from Earth could be found here. 
How was that possible when there were no humans here? 
Ashley didn't indulge herself on that question and asked herself a different question she had been meaning to know before she even entered the library. 
"Were there R-rated novels here?" she asked herself almost in a whisper.
Her white pearly teeth peaked out of her mouth when she gave out a sheepish smile. She tried to stop herself from giggling but she couldn't help it, it was her guilty pleasure! 
'Reading those was still the best!', she thought. 
She immediately smacked herself in the head when she realized she was surrounded with children's books. She felt like she was spreading her indecent thoughts and were corrupting the innocent ambience given by the books. 
Good thing she was the only one here... Haha! 
She decided that it was her time to check out the books she picked out and hand them out to Nexus so that he could give her a library card or whatever it was called that they used in libraries.
She started walking around back towards Nexus's post which was a bit far away. However, her pace slowed down when she felt that she was actually tired from standing and walking for a long time. 
Blame that old man! If he didn't play with her then she would've been fine until now!


Ashley had everything in her grasp. Love, Status and Popularity; she couldn't ask for more. 

That was until…

One night, on her way home from her friend's party, she was caught in a car accident. Her life was turned upside down.

He handed Qin Guan a colorful hardcover book.
"Take a look. It's Tasha's latest illustrations. The book will be available in bookstores soon. Considering her age, there won't be many of those getting published in the future. You were her muse, so it's a gift for you."
Qin Guan took it and looked at it carefully. There was a small farm village and some large letters on the cover. The book's title was "The Summer and Autumn Fairy".
He opened it and saw a green countryside. The colors were so tender that his heart nearly melted. 
The protagonist of the story was a handsome young man with a pair of transparent wings on his back. He looked like a fairy from old fairy tales. He was good friends with squirrels and liked to play with a cow on the field. His magic stick could make flowers bloom and corn ripen. The neat haystacks on the field were also his work.
A girl was sleeping under an orange lamplight. She had been blessed by the handsome fairy. The story was composed by a series of paintings portraying the sweet dreams of a girl. In her dreamland lived a perfect fairy.
The book had a sweet, warm style to it. The candy-like colors were refreshing for the readers. The old woman was really good at narrating tales to children.
Qin Guan put the book in his bag carefully before he asked Linn about Tasha.
"My agent received a contract and some money from her. On second thought, I will accept it."
Linn had turned on the camera. "Just keep it. It might be nothing for either of you, but it's still the kindness of an old lady."
Qin Guan nodded and walked over to a chair. "So, Mr. Linn… You are not a very loyal friend. TIME is not paying me anything, but you could at least cover my cab fare."
Linn felt the impulse to throw the camera at him. He realized that the young man was a moneygrabber, but he tried to control himself at the sight of his perfect face.
