Emica entered a small writing school that was near a river. Her friend had joined her. But, the teacher had an odd vibe around him. Emica became a little scared of him. 3 days had gone by just like that..... and today, Santa was finally leaving Baymard.
But since he would be coming again once Penelope signed the treaty.... everyone chose to go later on, and not right now.
And since they were allowed to work, they immediately started thinking of going job hunting and so on.
Sure, they were royals..... but ever since they had stepped in here, they had seen other royals worke as well.
Mother Kim was a teacher, and even king Landon worked at the hospital and every other place one could imagine.

Yesterday when they looked at the newspaper, they saw several job ads in them.
One should know that at the end of every semester, students graduated and started looking for jobs.
Hence there were always people trying to get into the job market.

Even those who were on holidays still needed summer jobs... hence the newspapers were always filled with several jobs offered daily.
Of course, some jobs like junior electricians..... or any job that was deeply rooted with Baymard's secrets, were completely unavailable to Non-Baymardians.
On the newspapers, it would say things like: 'Must be a citizen of Baymard'... And so on.

Yesterday, they had spent their entire time preparing for some job interviews.
They had read articles on the newspaper about prepping for jobs... as well as what they should bring to these interviews.
The whole thing seemed so fascinating.... especially to the women.
One had to know that all they did all day.....  was sit at home, make sure that the maids had prepared their husband and children's meals, run the household, and so on.
They actually never touched anything, so this was a whole new experience for them.

As for the men, they couldn't leave as well.... as 4 days from now, they would begin a test trial on how Baymard was going to train their knights.
They would train until Santa came back.
And apart from that, they were also allowed to take up part time jobs if they wanted to.
Staying in Baymard for months, would definitely run their money dry.... whether they were nobles or not.
Hence getting a job was definitely for the best.

In respect to the children, they were all starting school in 2 days time.... so of course they would stay as well.
Yes.... Duchess Mina and Duke Samula had decided to allow their children stay in Baymard and study for both semesters.
And in summer, they would come back to Carona as well.
One had to look at the bigger picture here.
If they could get educated, then when they graduated.... they could help in making changes within Carona.
After all, like Landon had said: the future were the youths.

And so as to keep their sons sword fighting skills intact..... they had decided to leave 4 of their most trusted guards with them while they stayed.
One had to know that knight pages trained almost everyday..... hence they needed the guards to keep their sons on their toes.
At least once a day, ther sons should practice fiercely for an entire hour.... or more.

As for their daughters, they were more than pleased to elevate them... as they felt like the courses offered here, were way better than what was offered at Carona.
So far, their daughters had taken etiquette classes, Poetry, reading and writing classes.... as well as simple math classes (addition & subtraction)
But when they saw Linda and all the other children here.... they were completely stunned by how intellectually smart they all were.

Anyway... Today was August 10th, and school had already resumed on the 3rd of the month.
But even still, Landon had assured them that it wasn't too late for the children to join in the semester.
Presently, they had all signed up for:
•Math 1: Addition & subtraction 
•Math 2 : Division & Multiplication
•Pyron 1: Nouns, adjectives, Reading, writing...etc
.
Of course those were just their main courses.... as they had other courses like Arts & Craft, History, Poetry, Gym, and so on.
So one could say that these children would have their hands full for the rest of the semester.
Bottom line, Santa was leaving with half of the royal guards..... and neveryone else was staying here until the treaty was brought back.

Looking at the goods that he had stocked up on his ship, Santa couldn't help but smile a bit.
For this first round, he had only chosen things that were a necessity for his people.
Things like Mattresses, beddings, books, pens, winter jackets, .... and so on, were his first line of action.
.
Before leaving, he had spoken to Landon about the price.
Landon wanted these items to be accessible to even peasants, so there was no way that he would allow anyone to sell them at a ridiculously price.
Hence he came up with a price range for various areas..... based on the exportation tax fees and so on.
For example, if 12 pencils cost 3 Copper coins.... then Carona could sell it between 3-8 Copper coins per pack.

Landon had added shipping rate, exportation tax, middleman fees and so on... to the that initial price.
But since Santa would usually buy in bulk/wholesale... the price should automatically become cheaper, when compared to shipping individually.
At the end, he had cost down on a lot of fees.
Time passed by swiftly.... and once everything was finally packed, Santa came back to say goodbye to everyone.

"Woo... Bro, they're so mean.
Can't they at least pretend to miss me a little?" Santa said while hugging Landon and pouting like a little kid.
Landon shook his head and smiled awkwardly.
This guy was truly shameless!
Everyone felt a headache coming along, as they looked at the giant sized child before them.
The children smacked their hands at their foreheads, as they too felt like this guy way too childish..... even for them.
And they should know, they were the ones who were kids.

"Ermmm...Uncle, you know we'll miss you right?
So stop crying." Replied one of the children.
"Yeah uncle.... we'll miss you for sure."
"Uncle, haven't I told you that you're the best in the whole wide Hertfilia?"
The children tried to coax this baby-like uncle of theirs until they saw signs of his 'mood' cheering up.

Santa raised his head and looked at them sadly, with a poppy dog look on his face.
"Really?..... You'll miss me?" Santa asked pitifully.
"For sure uncle." They replied.
"Okay... since you'll all miss me too much, then come back with me."
"__"
"Uncle.... please get on the ship!"
"Farewell uncle!"
"Goodbye!!"

Carol, Mr Wilde's personal assistant and a proud member of the LGBTQ community, knocked on the door.
"Your guest, Debbie Connor, has arrived. Would you like to receive her in your office or would you like to receive her in the meeting room?"
Wilmer looked up from his computer and glanced at his watch. It was already four in the afternoon? Time flew by way too quickly. The last thing he remembered eating was breakfast. Where had all that time gone?
"No need, please let her in. I'm thinking of heading out to grab a late lunch myself. You can end early for today if there isn't anything else."
Carol smiled and ushered Debbie in. The ex-lawyer was a lady in her thirties with ginger hair. Although she wasn't very tall, she carried herself confidently, making her appear taller in person.
Wilmer remembered the portfolio Debbie submitted. The lady didn't really have much experience dealing with children so it was a tough choice to leave his children in her hands. Luckily, Wilmer decided to interview the lady and put off making any hasty decisions. Seeing Debbie Connor in person made him rethink his initial opinion of her.
"Good day, Mr Wilde. I heard that you haven't had lunch yet. May I recommend a quaint cafe in the area I'm a personal fan of?"
Wilmer checked his watch. According to Carol, his schedule was free for the rest of the day.
"Sure," he smiled and dismissed Carol.
Carol nodded and watched as her boss left with Ms Connor. The secretary wasn't nosy in her boss' private life. Besides, Debbie was a married lady. Surely she wouldn't have to report it to Mrs Wilde... right?
The cafe Debbie suggested wasn't too far from the office. In fact, it was so secluded that Wilmer wouldn't have found it himself. There was hardly anything about it on the maps. 
The cafe was run by an elderly couple who took pride in their home-brewed drinks and pastries. Wilmer ordered for both of them and took some time to enjoy the ambience. The peacefulness was like a spot of Shangri-La in the busy city.
"I think I will be a regular here," he told the ex-lawyer.
Debbie smiled. "It sure is peaceful, isn't it? I used to come here all the time whenever I was working on a stressful case just before I fought it out in the courtroom."
The CEO nodded. He could understand why. "Why are you interested in becoming a governess? Surely you would have other passions even after leaving your career behind."
Debbie wasn't fazed by how direct Wilmer was. Her smile never wavered.
"I will be honest. If it wasn't for Benjamin bragging about the talented girl called Scarlet, I would probably have never signed up for the job. Benjamin might not have told you, but I was a writer myself. I just lost touch with the pen after publishing my fifth paperback because I found more enjoyment in editing and mentoring aspiring writers. I'm not a very creative person even though I love the beauty of a good book. I just find helping the creation of books more magical than actually writing it."
Wilmer blinked. While it was true that he wanted to engage a governess for Scarlet, he wondered if it would be possible to have Debbie groom the two other children.
"Will you have problems handling two other children as a governess? They don't need much attention because their areas of interest are very different and it takes a more self-directed learning approach."
Debbie tilted her head to the side. Two other children? Benjamin didn't mention anything about it and the world knew that the Wilde's only had one daughter. Could they be illegitimate children? Does Orita Wilde know?
The ex-lawyer hesitated for a long time and Wilmer took the hint.
"It's alright, you don't need to give me an answer now. The school term has only started for them, I will contact you again next week. If you have any questions, feel free to let my secretary know. Carol will assist you as much as she can and I do find you to be a rather suitable candidate."
They charged a little more leisurely after that and enjoyed the home-brewed coffee. Wilmer was impressed with Debbie's enthusiasm about writing and thought that Scarlet might be happy if Debbie accepted his proposal. Still, he didn't want to be too pretentious and make decisions on the girl's behalf.
"It might sound sudden, but I think you will get along really well with Scarlet. She is a naturally curious and creative individual. However, she had gone through some terrible things recently. It would be nice if you could take some time out of your busy schedule to visit Scarlet after school and just talk to her to know her better. As a father, I am a failure. I don't know how else I can help my daughter, who is suffering alone."
Debbie raised her brows. From the rumours, the Wilde's were a very loving family and she was slightly surprised to find that it was true. Still, what did Mr Wilde mean by a failure as a father?
"Pardon my impertinence, but I would like to ask what happened. Why would you consider yourself a failure as a father?"
Wilmer sighed heavily and started telling his long tale. Throughout the tale, Debbie remained silent. Her opinion about the Wilde's changed a little when Wilmer disclosed that Scarlet was adopted. She wasn't given the details about Scarlet's circumstances, but she didn't want to pry. Apparently, it was a decision made by the Ice Queen without consulting the CEO beforehand.
"You don't have any objections to what your wife did? We're not talking about a dog or a cat, we are talking about a child..."
Wilmer chuckled. "No. In fact, I am very happy to have Scarlet in our family. She brings colour into our lives and I can see the positive influence she brings to Alex and my wife. It only troubles me that she wouldn't completely open up to us. I might have made a bad move back then, but it was the only way I thought could pull her out from her depression."
Debbie paused. "Depression?"
Wilmer looked around and shook his head. "Let's take this conversation to a different location, shall we?"

I and my best friend Margie Rose Domingo are walking to the school ground trying to head our way home. I swear I feel so tired and stressed after that long remedial exam given by our professor since he said that our records are hanging low so all his class stayed late just to comply. The whole school surroundings are now starting to darken but few students are also heading home. 
 
"Wow! I can't believe sir did it again. It's already late see, it's already 6:10 and I'm so tired." I said as I fixe my shoulder bag into my right shoulder, I simply look at my friend beside me seeing her also worn out face.
 
"Yap talks about much too much reminders for next semester. Did you take that form they had given us?" my best friend and partner in many crazy things Margie Rose Domingo asks as I just nod and looks at the trail going to the main road.
 
"Well, what can I say? They must be worried we might transfer to another schools. I am starting to get pressured by this course's subjects. The teachers are giving us too expensive projects and such. It's too stressing for me." I said with a deep sigh of weariness while I rub my aching neck.
 
"Forget that, I'm starving. Can we stop for food?" said Rose while she rubs her stomach that made me and her to laugh. 
 
"Say, whoever had the lowest grade in Creative writing shall treat for our meal." Rose said while winking at me, our teacher in that subject is a terror so I bet our grades are hanging.
 
"Game! That's our deal. Make sure you have extra money there alright." I said jokingly while smirking as we both take our class cards in our bags.
 
"Okay, as we agreed the one with a lowest grade shall pay. On the count of three we shall show our class card." Rose said and I nod thinking that I can pay since I have some extra money with me if ever I lose.
 
We both count into three then show our class cards making Rose grunt upon seeing my grade. I smile in triumph seeing that I have an 87 on my creative writing while 86 on Rose' making me do the victory dance we both usually do.
 
"Alright! A deal is a deal no back outs." I said as Rose sigh then smiles nodding.
 
"No problem." Rose said making me look at her in surprise.
 
"A-Are you sure. Don't tell me you got paid with your part time job in that CD store?" I said looking at my hard working friend who has a part time job on the CD store where I usually hang out just to accompany her.
 
"Hmnn yap. Don't worry about it." Rose said making me sigh knowing that my friend is working none stop because of her mother's medication. 
 
We are walking on the side walk when my cellphone starts to ring. I immediately open my bag and take my cellphone out just to look at it in surprise upon seeing my father's caller Id that made me furrow my eyebrows. I reluctantly slides the answer button somehow I don't know why but I feel so nervous, I slowly place my cellphone on my right ear.
 
"Hello pa." I said waiting for him to speak.
 
When I hear what he say I place my cellphone back into my pocket then looks at my friend looking so apologetic.  Rose look at me wondering while I shake my head looking so dismayed.
 
"What's wrong?" Rose said as she looks at me.
 
"Sorry Rose I have to head back home as soon as possible. They said there is something important they need to tell me. Let's eat out next time. I feel bad since this is our last day together." I said as I look at Rose really dismayed.
 
"Too bad, it's already semester break and the school will be on emergency break making it 3 months of break. We won't see each other again for that long. Are you going back to your province straightaway?" Rose said as we continue walking towards the jeep's station.
 
"I don't know; it's just a little bit weird why my parents are here this late without telling me earlier that they will be here. Something must have come up. I'll text you if ever we can get a chance to eat out.�� I sadly said before I wave my friend goodbye. 
 
"Okay, call or text me okay." Rose waves back towards me on the window of the jeep after she sits on the jeep.
 
As I quietly sit on the jeep I start think as to why my parents are here this late and are waiting for me at my uncle Oliver's house. I wonder why they ask me to head home as soon as possible, that I should immediately head to my uncle Oliver's house and not to the boarding house I am staying which is just beside my uncle's house. The tone of my father's voice made me really nervous. He seems to be so sad while I speak to him a while ago. When I arrive at the gate of Uncle Oliver's house I see an expensive car parked into uncle's frond yard, I sigh then I enter the gate quietly.
 
"Odd, do they have a guest today? This is my first time seeing a car like this visiting uncle. Not to mention it is already late. For a guest to be here on a time like this they must be someone close but I never seen this car before." I said in wonder as I look closely to that expensive looking black car.
 
I slowly climb the stairs towards my uncle's porch and then I stop in front of the door. I sigh while I stand near the door of my uncle's house, I am still deciding if I will knock or just press that darn door bell. I don't know why but I feels so nervous, like something ominous is about to happen. Somewhat, I feel so uneasy. I take a deep breath and slowly knock. The door opens revealing my elementary crush, Michael Adamson. He has this sun tanned skin, black clean cut hair, 6'4 height, muscular built, gray eyes and reddish lips. He is what I call a sun tan god.
 
"Hi. Uhmnn Anna this uhmnn warn you.... I-I just want to warn you. B-be ready for anything that will about to happen. Come in." Michael said as he steps aside to let me in. 
 
I feel so nervous most especially when he said that. The way he said it sound like trouble is about to come.
 
"O-kay.... what is going on?" I ask still confused to what he just said, this is the first time Michael talk to me first but the sound of his hoarse voice made me very nervous.
 
"J-Just be ready, because everything you know is about to change." He said with an awkward smile.
 
I am confused upon hearing what he said. This made me even nervous and uneasy, my relationship with Michael ever since elementary is so cold and yah! Nothing at all, we never talked to each other normally. Even from the time he came to stay with my uncle for college and that we see each other every day since we are walking on the same places every time, yet we never have shared a very interesting conversation at all. We seem to feel awkward with each other's presence thus the cold ice we feel every time one is near.
 
"Ah, Michael. W-what do you mean by that? A-are my parents in here?" I ask trying to hide my blushing face and that nervousness I am feeling. 
 
He smiles and signs me towards the kitchen so I now got my answer to where my parents are. 
 
"Th-They have been waiting for you in there. Ahmnnn Anna, good luck." He said making my face burn but at the same time my heart beats fast. 
 
I don't know if it's because Michael talks to me casually for the first time or that he smiled handsomely OR for something else?
 
"R-Right, thanks." I just said acting cool about it.
 
Michael closes the door and he walks towards the sofa right at the living room and sits beside Casper and Ian. Casper, Ian, and Nina are watching a movie; those 3 are my Uncle Oliver's children and my really unsocial cousins but they are cool when you get to be open up with them. Michael on the other hand is related to my Uncle Oliver's family because Michael's father is distant relative of my Uncle Oliver's wife, Aunt Cedes. And when Michael's father died my aunt take him into their house to help him study and she pays for Michael's studies in exchange he must stay to Uncle Oliver's house and help in his shop. Aunt Cedes is abroad so we seldom see her during our stay here.
 
"Anna dear, is that you? Come on here at the kitchen we have been waiting for you." I hear my uncle's call from the kitchen and since their kitchen and living room table are separated with a wall divider, I can't see who are there or if my parents are there. 
 
I take a deep breath when I see my niece Clayra running towards me and then keep on pulling my bag so I had no choice but to let my cute 4 years old niece have it. 
 
"Careful Clayra." I said as I watch how she is struggling to carry my bag towards the sofa where the others are sitting.
 
I slowly walk towards the kitchen divider as Clayra sit on the sofa next to Michael and starts to ransack my bag. I instantly turn red at the thought that Michael is looking into the content of my bag. My so messy and full bag, not to mention all my class cards are there so he can see my not so well but doing fine grades. I see that Clayra found what she is looking for when she stops looking into my shoulder bag and left it scattered on the sofa beside Michael. 
 
"Too messy." I utter almost a whisper looking at my niece's mess.
 
I shake my head and sighs upon seeing all my papers, class cards and notebooks scattered there while Clayra sit happily as she opens the candy she found. Michael looks at me and then he smiles, he starts to pick all my stuff and carefully return it into the bag. When he looks at me I mouth him my thanks before I take one last deep breath before I continue heading towards the kitchen just to see my parents and my 3 siblings, my elder sister Arsey the mother of my niece, my brother Ezzar and my sister Daisy sitting on the wide dining table together with my uncle Oliver and 3 new faces. 
 
"Hel-lo." I softly said as I nervously look at them, I somehow feel uneasy about this.
 
There is this lovely lady who turns to look at me and starts to cry. She has this dark hairs and fair skin; she is wearing a blue dress while her hair is in messy bun. Beside the lady is a man who is patting the lady's back as his eyes gazes at me, weird. The man has this black hair and a tan skin; he is also wearing a formal suit, those types we usually see worn by business men. On the other side of the man is another man, a man in his 50's and is also looking at me..... so weird. In front of the man is a black bag or in business term, a brief case.
 
"Oh don't just stand there dear. Come and sit so we can start... explaining things." My mother Mary Marcelo said sadly who is sitting beside my father August Marcelo. 
 
I sigh before I walk towards an empty seat just in front of the 3 visitors. I slowly sit and notice that their eyes are all towards me. My heart starts to pound heavily. What trouble did I cause this time? Who are these 3 weird visitors who look at me as if they are looking into a food? But despite of my thundering heartbeat and nervousness I have to act cool about this.
 
"U-uhmmnn what is going on?" I manage to say as I look around the table to look at my family's faces.
 
Why do I feel so uneasy about all of these? I look at my family and I can feel this dark sad aura surrounding them making me scared and nervous. But when I look at the two new faces in front of me, I feel this uncertain warmth in my heart... so weird. To my observation they must be couple seeing how the handsome 30's looking man hugs the woman who is also so pretty and looking like in her 30's to. The way they are looking at me makes me feel so warm, happy, nervous, and scared also not to mention I feel like vomiting all at ones. Who are they and why is the atmosphere feel so tight? Why does my parents look so sad and distressed?
 

Every one of us must have watch or read any fairy tale books in our entire life. Fairy tale story like: Snow white, sleeping beauty and our famous Cinderella. It must be great to live in a rich life where everything you want is given or provided, a life with servants at our disposal, and a life with a handsome prince charming ready to save us. But.....THIS certain story is not like any fairy tale story we had read and watched. This story is about being brave, being you and being who you want to be.

Director Ren Li no longer worked in interventional radiology. A newer doctor was put in charge there. She would also listen exactly to whatever higher-ranking doctors told her to do. She would follow their directions to the letter, without any thoughts of her own.
She had quite a lot of free time for an internal medicine doctor, not being busy all the time like the others. She wasn't competitive or forceful at all. Ye Jing counted as a nice person in the cardiovascular department. She would take care of any patients that were assigned to her, but would never care about competing over obtaining more patients when she had few patients.
Since her husband's income was excellent, she wasn't under any pressure to make a high income of her own. While she would of course be happy with more money, she didn't really mind if she didn't make too much money. Thus, she was unmotivated to work hard. Ye Jing was basically the invisible type in the cardiovascular department. She was never called by the hospital for any emergency treatment patients, either. Still, she was quite happy with this.
Currently, Ye Jing had seven patients whose respective condition was quite stable. They only needed ordinary treatment, nothing special. Ye Jing was delighted that she had been assigned a new doctor, which meant that she could leave writing the medical reports to Zhang Fan.
Ye Jing instantly left after her work shift was over. Zhang Fan still needed to write medical reports and obtain the patients' laboratory test results. He also had to occasionally help other doctors with errands such as performing an electrocardiogram.
The next day, Ye Jing was scheduled for a 24-hour work shift. Zhang Fan worked quite excellently during the day, recording all the medical reports and laboratory test results and finishing all the patient checkups.
After the day shift doctors went home, Ye Jing took Zhang Fan to check up on the patients. There were some patients in serious condition that other doctors had notified her about before they left.
Checking up on the patients three times a day was an ironclad rule at Chasu City Hospital. Most of the patients had been here for quite a while, so they were quite clear on the treatment procedures at the hospital. Some patients even knew the procedures better than the rotation doctors did. Such patients would instantly go to the doctors' offices to find a doctor if the checkup was even a few minutes late.
Ye Jing immediately started frowning after she finished the checkups. Although Zhang Fan wasn't very knowledgeable about internal medicine, even he could see that several of the patients were in very poor condition.
For the patients in the cardiology department, even one minute's delay could be fatal. An cardiovascular emergency medical situation that wasn't taken care of instantly would quite often result in the patient's death.
Patient deaths would be especially common in the cardiovascular department. Someone who seemed alright just a moment ago might suddenly start trembling and suffer from heart pain. It was common for the patient to die before the doctor could even rush to the patient's room.
That was why cardiologists all needed to have strong hearts and swift legs. They needed to be strong at working under pressure and running quickly.
Ye Jing frowned while saying, "This night shift will be a difficult one. It's likely that medical emergencies will arise." Even though her medical skills were only average, she was still a veteran doctor with more than a decade of experience. She could still tell when a patient was in very bad condition.
Zhang Fan had no such experience. He had never interned or worked in internal medicine before. He was also currently unable to access any internal medicine courses in his System. Thus, he was a bit confused.
"Oh! We'll just have to pull an all-nighter without sleeping, then," Zhang Fan stated naively.
Ye Jing turned to smile bitterly at Zhang Fan. "It wouldn't be much of a problem if things could easily be taken care of by not sleeping. I really regret my lack of knowledge while I was younger, choosing the cardiovascular department. It's really so hard working here."
'You're too old to regret your choice now,' Zhang Fan thought to himself while pouting.
Ye Jing was quite generous to Zhang Fan as she purchased meals and water for him. This was all in order to make Zhang Fan happy with her so that he would work properly on writing the medical reports, obtaining laboratory test results, and other such menial errands. She no longer had to do such work now that there was a new doctor assigned under her.
"Little Zhang, where are you from? Do you have a girlfriend?" Zhang Fan was currently writing a medical report. Ye Jing had nothing to do, so she chatted with him to relieve her boredom.
"I'm from S Province. I'm still currently single."
"Oh, are you used to the border province? You didn't have a girlfriend back in the college? I see that many of the new doctors came here already as couples. During the previous rotation, a male and female doctor who were a couple came to our department together."
"I'm doing alright." Zhang Fan didn't want to talk. He felt that Ye Jing was too gossipy.
"I heard that you've already been chosen by a surgical department. Which one? It really is nice in surgery; you have nothing to do when there's no surgeries. It must be so free every day."
This was something only an outsider to the surgical departments could say. A surgeon at a Class A hospital would have quite a lot of free time? That would only be the case for the department director or a retired surgeon.
Zhang Fan could only helplessly reply, "It's about the same, it's pretty busy. There's so many surgeries that sometimes there's not even enough time to eat."
"What? I see that the surgical department has dinner parties almost every night, and often goes out for karaoke together. I've seen it so many times at our hospital." Of course, Ye Jing also often went to dinner parties and karaoke, yet she was talking about others! Sheesh!
"Really? I just joined Chasu City Hospital recently, so I still don't know things here well." Zhang Fan truly didn't know what he was supposed to say. He didn't dare to say too much. He felt that this woman was ridiculously talkative.
"You'll find out once you're permanently assigned to a department. Internal medicine truly isn't good to work in. Women have so much drama. People will talk so much if you as much as wear some pretty clothing. It's really annoying."
"Oh." Zhang Fan had originally intended on finishing the medical reports as quickly as possible so that he could study some internal medicine textbooks afterwards, but with Ye Jing constantly chattering near his ears, he was unable to concentrate, and often made typos on the medical reports, slowing him down even further as he corrected them.
Finally, Ye Jing went to take a shower at midnight. Zhang Fan finally obtained the silence he wanted. He still had three more medical reports to finish at this time.
Ye Jing then went to sleep at the doctors' resting area. Zhang Fan was unable to go there to rest himself. The patient rooms of the cardiovascular department were all occupied, so there were no empty rooms to sleep in. Neither had Ye Jing said that Zhang Fan could rest.
Just as Zhang Fan was hesitating about what he should do, a nurse ran over hurriedly. "Hurry! Patient #5 is in an emergency situation! Where's Doctor Ye?"
"The doctors' resting area."
"Go call her! Hurry!"
The nurse immediately ran back to the patient's room. Three night shift nurses were on duty, while Ye Jing was the only official doctor on night shift at the cardiovascular department tonight.
Zhang Fan immediately ran to the door of the doctors' resting area, calling out, "Doctor Ye, Patient #5 is in an emergency situation! The nurse is calling for you!"
*Clang!* Something unknown created a loud sound inside the doctors' resting area. Ye Jing came out with her hair all messy. She commented as she ran, "I knew it! I knew it! Tonight definitely won't be an easy shift. Hurry and go push the bedside electrocardiogram."
When Zhang Fan arrived at the patient's room while pushing the electrocardiogram, Ye Jing had already begun chest compressions for the patient. She was panting as she said, "Come do the chest compressions, I don't have the strength to do any more. I'll perform the electrocardiogram."
Chest compressions required you to press down five centimeters at a rate of 100 times per minute. This physical task would be impossible for anyone in poor physical condition. Chest compressions would also commonly result in accidentally fracturing a patient's rib. This was because chest compressions required great force.
Zhang Fan hurriedly took over performing chest compressions from Ye Jing. "Give the patient cardiac stimulant via intravenous injection, the largest dosage allowed. Hurry!" Ye Jing commanded the nurse.
The patient's family members were all kicked out of the room, so they pressed themselves up against the glass window to look inside. Patient #5 was an elderly man in his sixties. His wife's face was already covered in tears, while several of their children supported her while looking expectantly at the doctors in the room.
*Beep! Beep! Beep!* The bedside monitor began to issue a warning that the heartrate was flatlining.
"He's gone. Just finish a final electrocardiogram. You can stop the chest compressions now," Ye Jing said to Zhang Fan as she stopped her efforts.
They slowly left the patient's room. There wasn't much left to say. The patient's doctor had previously informed the patient's family already that the patient was in such a condition that he might pass away at any moment.
Before Zhang Fan could even get a few minutes of rest, the night shift nurse ran over again. "Patient #9!" She then immediately ran back to the patient's room. Zhang Fan pushed the electrocardiogram machine while running after Ye Jing.
"Nurse! Nurse! Please come! I think my mom is dying! Please hurry!" Patient #23's daughter shouted at this time.
"You go to patient #23, I'll go to patient #9. Perform an electrocardiogram first," Ye Jing told Zhang Fan.
Just as they were working to save patients #9 and #23, an emergency situation arose with patient #18. Zhang Fan didn't even have the time to rush over to perform an electrocardiogram before patient #18 passed away. He was extremely busy all night all the way until it was light out, but patients #5, #9, #18, and #23 all ended up passing away that night.
Zhang Fan didn't even get a chance to rest afterwards, because the morning was filled with writing the death reports, as well as adding on to the medical reports about all the efforts to try and save the patients.
Zhang Fan didn't even get any time to mourn for the patients as he finished his first 24-hour work shift in the cardiovascular department.


One day, Zhang Fan, a poor medical student, receives a medical system from the future. This turns him into a new shining star in the medical field. Along the way, he must face medical corruption, competition, and infighting from other doctors, and even find time for a love life as he strives for the top of the medical field!

Adam proudly showed off his car and Abby felt her heart burst. Too cute! How was she supposed to handle a cuteness attack of this level?
Katie mock whispered, "He shows it to everyone he likes."
It was official. She melted into a puddle of sentimental goo. Her nephew liked her right off the bat! He was very trusting considering his mother barely told him they were family, which proved he was a happy and well-adjusted kid.
What kind of childhood did he have living out here in the middle of nowhere? Katie had obviously commissioned that toy for him but what about his other toys? Were there any picture books? What sorts of things did little kids even do in this world in the absence of a playground?
"Who made it for you?" Abby asked, gesturing to the car.
Katie was a bit embarrassed. "Ah, I got one of the carpenters who moved here from Rowenhilde to do it. He made a few others toys like this for him and other kids started wanting them too so now there are wooden cars all over town. We even started selling them in bulk to the merchants who pass through here after one of them bought one on a whim for his grandson."
Wow. Such a small thing ended up widespread because she wanted something familiar for her son to play with. Abby couldn't help but wonder exactly how much influence her sister had managed to have on this world by accident.
She was very curious about Katie's life here and wanted to know more. Seeming to sense this, Katie excused them (Al and Blaise were still deep in discussion) and showed her around the house.
In addition to a modern bathroom, there was also a fairly modern kitchen. There wasn't a microwave or a proper fridge but Katie explained that there was an ice box of sorts in the cellar outside for keeping things cold.
Adam had a few more familiar toys as well. His wooden car wasn't the only vehicle he had. There was also a wagon pulled by a wooden horse and a rudimentary truck. He had a teddy bear too; stuffed animals did exist here though bears weren't the most popular. Most children had stuffed rabbits for some reason.
There were also wooden blocks to build towers and bridges with. Everything else appeared to be carvings of various animals found in the mountains, such as deer.
"You guys use a lot of wood, don't you?" Abby asked dryly.
Katie shrugged. "We're surrounded by trees; lumber is one of our best resources. Wait until you see the wooden playground I convinced someone to build! All the kids in town love it."
She was fairly certain she knew what kind of playground her sister was talking about. When they were younger, they visited a historical park where the playground was almost entirely made of wood and shaped a bit like a castle. They used rubber and plastic a little bit for slides and rope courses but that was it.
Her sister wasn't the most creative person in the world by any means but she was full of a lot of random knowledge. Getting other more talented people to act on that knowledge had yielded quite the results and she had hardly seen anything yet.
"What other things have you convinced people to make for you?" Abby asked in awe.
It was a lot more than expected. Katie told her how this started when she was still back in the palace because she wanted sweaters and fuzzy pajama pants to get through the winter. While she was still there, she also commissioned a hat loom to be made so she could crochet.
Abby already knew that because of the novel, as well as the attempts at pizza and hamburgers. What she didn't know was everything that happened after coming to the Kanta region.
Since coming here Katie had worked together with a variety of people to create street lamps, light bulbs, a hydroelectric generator, children's toys, swing sets, different types of handy kitchen utensils such as oven mitts, and more. She even managed to improve on the makeshift snow clothes she had made back in the palace.
She also created the concept of a public library and recruited a few talented minds to help her create fun little picture books for children. The children's books that existed here were almost entirely of the educational variety, aside from a few traditional stories that were meant for older children to read on their own.
When she realized she was pregnant not long after moving here, Katie refused to let her child live in a world without age-appropriate fiction. She found a few people who were good at drawing to turn traditional oral children's stories into book form.
Under her guidance—apparently she had read a ton of Wikipedia articles about the history of crayons, colored pencils, and markers out of boredom while laid up in bed several years ago—a few innovators had managed to recreate those as well.
The first books made solely for the Kanta were painted or colored in with markers or crayons. but once they began mass producing them and had to use a printing press they were all too bulky. Once the traders found out about these books and wanted some for their own children, the business grew. 
There was now a full printing press/publishing office set up in town. They used engraving plates to mass produce illustrations and had to use colored pencils to color everything in by hand because they were the thinnest tool available. 
Katie confided that the Kanta became much more involved with the outside world largely because they needed to trade for materials to help recreate things from home but that it had ended up benefiting everyone involved. Unbelievable. An entire economy set up because of the desire for some kids' books.
Abby was astounded by how much she had accomplished in such a short time. A mind like hers had been wasted back in their world.
She majored in political science because it was one of the shorter programs and her health made taking on more than twelve credits per semester difficult. She had no idea what she wanted to actually do with her life and ended up taking the first part-time job she could find post-graduation.
A benefit of working in a school is that you have a lot of time off. Three day weekends, spring break, Christmas break, summers… Katie admitted that she went with that job in no small part because of all the time off for doctors' appointments, physical therapy, and plain old recovering from exhaustion.
Her time was entirely consumed by going to work, going to the doctor, and consuming as much media as possible. Because she was a curious soul, instead of wasting all of her time on Netflix like some people she primarily focused on nonfiction.
Her memory for details was incredible. There was no way Abby would have been able to remember enough about random things like crayons and markers enough to actually make one later.

Katie Pullman, a chronically ill girl who spends her life immersed in fiction, suddenly finds herself inside a novel she has read. Thrown right into the thick of things, she desperately tries to keep the plot intact but happy endings aren't always as they seem...

Lucid's mood was elevated as of late, mainly due to the fact that he had succeeded in recreating magic that utilized friction as its main force. Of course, he would still have to experiment and figure out more practical uses for this magic, but he wanted continue learning about new theories first, to be able to use different types of magic. He was particularly drawn to the field of physics, to the point that the only books he read now were physics texts. "Come Play, Physics!" was a book among Ki-woong's collection, and it was a must in Lucid's to-borrow list, as well as other physics related books. Even in the school library, he only checked out books with the word "Physics" in the title. There were parts he didn't quite understand, and parts he skipped over because he couldn't even make out some of the words, but he still enjoyed the whole process, as he felt that he was taking the necessary steps towards achieving more complete knowledge.

Maybe it was due to global warming, or maybe the weather was just fickle, but fall left just as soon as it came, giving way to a surprisingly early winter. Though they were still in the months of what would typically be considered late fall, people were already taking out their parkas to endure the cold winds during their commute. Concerned parents wrapped their children up to their necks, covering them in thick mufflers before sending them off to school. The children, on the other hand, would undress as soon as they reached the classroom, shedding off clothing item after clothing item like a snake would its scales. And good for them, too, since the heaters in all the classrooms were blasting at full force. Still, the heaters were rather unnecessary, as the children ran all throughout the classroom, zooming between desks, and quickly worked up a sweat.

The start of the second term seemed like only yesterday, yet the end of terms was only a month away. The first graders usually learned about various subjects, aside from Korean and math, and this time, they were to learn about winter.

"Children!" The teacher called, earning the students' attention. "Today, we'll be playing something called the Love Thermometer! You see, next month is December. What season is that? That's right, it's winter! Can anyone tell me what winter is?"

By now, Hee Yeon was used to drawing the children's attention with questions and the cadence of her voice. When she was sure all her students were listening, she smiled and continued to explain.

"... So as you can see from these pictures, helping out a friend or donating to someone in need, or even picking up trash from the ground are all considered a form of volunteering. There are more opportunities to volunteer in winter, since it's very, very cold. There are more fundraisers to help those without proper shelters or access to food. Do you know of any? Yes, these are all in place so that we can share a little of what we have to help out those who need it most. When we do this, we are making the world a brighter, happier place. Did everyone understand that?"
"Yes!" the children answered in unison.

"Good! I will now give you this paper thermometer, and you will be writing down all the types of volunteering or sharing that you can think of. If you start filling it from the bottom, the temperature will go up and up, right? The more the temperature of your thermometer goes up, the more our classroom, our homes, and our country will be filled with warmth and love. Alright?"

The purpose of this activity was to show children real life examples of sharing and volunteering in everyday life, so that they may also practice them in their lives. If the children were encouraged to present their ideas on the topic, it would serve to motivate them to volunteer, which would fulfill the objective of this ethics building class. On a larger scale, this class was meant to encourage the children to put what they learned in school into use in their daily lives.

While all the other children were busy with the task the teacher had assigned them, Lucid was contemplating something else altogether. Recently, as he had been reading, he had learned something absolutely mind blowing. Until now, Lucid had always understood fire as something similar to water or air, but it turned out to be entirely different. Fire was simply a physical phenomenon. An "exothermic combustion phenomenon that released heat and light," to be exact. Though it was a fantastic discovery, it also caused some confusion for Lucid. He had, after all, materialized fire through complete understanding. At the very least, he could make out its figura, and even now, he could materialize a small fire in his hands. The issue, however, was that his understanding had been flawed all along.

Pincheno had told him that sorcerers needed to understand the fundamental properties of the forma they wanted to recreate in order to properly materialize it into the real world. This meant that without knowing an object's fundamental properties, it would be impossible to recreate it with magic. And that was the issue. Lucid had, until now, completely misunderstood the properties of fire. How was he able to conjure it with magic?

Lucid stared at the small fire dancing on his palm. Without a doubt, a fire. Yet the more he looked at it, the stranger it began to look. That's when he remembered what he had read about it. The book had said that fire needed three components in order to burn: oxygen, a flammable material, and a temperature exceeding its combustion point. But the fire he had conjured was missing the flammable object. It wasn't burning through anything, rather just floating around letting out heat and light. Lucid closed his eyes and rummaged through his memories.

He remembered Pincheno talking about willpower. "You need more than just regular willpower. You need extraordinary determination, the determination to both combine all the laws of the world into one and rise above them if it means achieving your goal. Once you obtain the willpower needed to discard all else and focus only on consumme, that's when you'll be able to do it." That's how Pincheno had explained it. The determination to combine all the laws of the world and to also rise over them. Could that mean...? Lucid was struck with an idea.

Pincheno had told him that magic was the act of borrowing the essence of an object from Latio. An already existing essence was bound by no rules and had no additional properties. In other words, the essence was the true form of an object, with no other conditions attached. It was the sorcerer's job to apply specific conditions and rules upon that essence, and whatever the sorcerer added upon it, it didn't alter the essence itself. This meant that even if a sorcerer were to misunderstand water as a viscous fluid, as long as they properly understood the fundamental quality of water, they might be able to conjure actual water. No, they would be, for certain. They would merge their misunderstanding along with all the other rules and laws of the universe and rise above it with their willpower.

The first time Lucid had cast fire magic, he had been freezing next to a wolf carcass. The first property he had thought of had been light, and then heat. He had then struggled to figure out other properties related to fire, but that had been futile. Everything else could be dismissed as conditionals. His understanding of fire's properties had brought him close to its essence, and once he had an image of this essence, he had been able to recreate it through extraordinary willpower. That was how he managed to cast fire.

Another thought struck him moments later, as Lucid was listening to the teacher's explanation. It began with the realization that showing pictures of voluteer work to explain the concept of volunteering was different from first defining voluteering and then providing examples. Determining the exact definition of volunteering and then looking for appropriate examples was the correct approach, Lucid thought. Simply providing different examples and labeling them all as volunteering was nothing but circular logic.

The difference between deductive and inductive reasoning carried on into the field of magic theory. The various physical properties of heat, such as the transfer of energy and molecular action, could all be fundamental properties of an essence that exists within Latio, though Lucid couldn't be sure. After all, he had never come across true essence before. However, he knew that if he could find an accurate and all-encompassing definition for heat, it would help him understand the criteria of fundamental properties (universality and unique characteristics) and visualize the essence of different material qualities he came across. However, simply listing off qualities of an object wasn't enough to determine whether a property was fundamental or not. It would all depend on whether he could properly visualize it. As such, Lucid decided that he would also need to practice conjuring mental images. Once he had a solid enough image, then he would simply recreate it through immense willpower.

Ultimately, Lucid's habit of reading any and everything he could get his hands on had proved to be useful in correcting a mistake he had made. It could very well be that today's realizations might become tomorrow's dilemmas, but Lucid was still very young. How much more would he have to study in order to figure this out? Only time would tell.

"Sweetie, there is something I'd like to talk to you, so will you please stay?" Hee Yeon told Lucid as he prepared to pack his things.
"Yes, Miss?"
"The thing is, I sent word to a TV station, and they told me they'd like to interview you."
"Me?" Lucid asked incredulously. Somehow, this felt a bit familiar.
"Well, you see... I haven't been able to help you as much as you need, which is embarrassing for me to admit, but... Anyway, so I thought if more people knew about you and your circumstances, then someone would step up to help you out. If it does end up airing on TV, you might even get someone to sponsor you! Or at least, people could get a fundraiser going. If that were to happen, you could study as much as you wanted and take courses suited for your level of intellect. How does that sound?"

It was a difficult question to answer, especially since Lucid had no idea what they would and wouldn't show, what kinds of questions he'd be asked, or how an interview was even directed. All Lucid understood was that Ms. Kim was placing great emphasis on the fact that it would be helpful for him. Frankly speaking, that was the part he cared about the most. Being able to study as much as he wanted would be a dream come true.

"I've already spoken with the institute," continued Hee Yeon. "And they wanted me to break the news to you. But you don't have to choose right away. In a couple of days, one of the screenwriters from the TV station will be here to ask you a few questions. You can decide what to do after you speak to them."

With the new knowledge that he would learn more details after speaking with this screenwriter, Lucid decided to go ahead with the interview.

A few days later, two weeks before the beginning of winter break, Lucid met with the screenwriter after school. A woman in her mid-20's, she looked rather aloof, and she wore rather plain clothes. All in all, she seemed like a rather easy-going person.

"Hello!" she greeted as she saw Lucid approach her. "I'm Nayeon Lee. You've heard about me from your teacher, right?"
"Yes. It's nice to meet you."
"Yes, same here. Hmm. Maybe we should go somewhere else for this. There's a lot I want to talk about, and we don't want to be standing here forever."

Hee Yeon, who had been standing behind Nayeon, conveniently led them to the counseling room.

Imre had, from just observing and feeling the situation at the port, made a rather accurate guess of the motives of the Emperor and his Commander-in-Chief. In fact, his assumption aligned with the majority of officials that had been able to perceive the dangers that the Emperor's decree could pose against him.  
But there was a slight error in all of their thinking. And that being, the Emperor didn't in fact care about what his officials thought of him; not including the Grand Tutor of course. Yes, one of the main aims in evicting the inhabitants of B-612 was for the quality and quantity of mecha stones that the insignificant primary production planet hid. But what had driven Finnegan to overcome his extreme reluctance to displace one million people was the promise of Evolved traits. 

With the discovery of mecha stones many millennia ago, intensive research of this saviour of humanity naturally followed. It was three centuries before Finnegan's reign, at the peak of human evolution, that the relation between mecha stones and Evolved traits was discovered. The theory that longer lifespans, heightened physical and mental capabilities, and superhuman skills was attributed solely to evolution was overturned. Previously thought to be an adaptation to increase humanity's chances of survival and a countermeasure to the decreased fertility rates, Evolved traits are now known to be the result of mutations caused by the energy field of mecha stones. These gene mutations develop when the fetus is growing in the womb. The quality, quantity and impurities of the mecha stones greatly affect the concentration and fluctuations of its energy field and thus producing multitudes of different Evolved traits. Research had shown no individuals had exactly the same Evolved trait. They could fall under the same category in the Puellman System which organised Evolved traits, but their nuances that belonged unique to each person proved impossible to fully grasp or categorise. 

But the information on how Evolved traits were developed was highly classified, available only to the royal family… and Vincent. And rightly so. The upheaval that would ensue if people were to find out how to manipulate the development of Evolved traits would be disastrous. Human nature would just not allow for such a powerful tool of status, wealth and strength to be left to follow its natural course. 

Finnegan had the goal of further researching into Evolved traits that revolved around an individual's mental capacity. For centuries, only physical manifestations of Evolved traits such as increased strength and speed were recognised as 'true' Evolved traits whereas better memory or superior mental stability were deemed irrelevant and only a factor of evolution. But it became clear that this was not so with the findings of how mecha stones and Evolved traits were linked. Unfortunately, under Finnegan's uncle's rule, such important Evolved traits were left neglected in research or educated to the masses as he had only valued Evolved traits that made 'super soldiers'. 

The fact that B-612 was ripe with mecha stones meant that there was no doubt that the people of this planet had unique Evolved traits. Finnegan had dumped the information of all one million citizens of B-612 onto Vincent's desk six months ago to unearth strong individuals who could aid in directing the Empire's future under the guise of rehousing them. By the end of this operation, Vincent had determined one fifth of the inhabitants of B-612 to transfer to Garden, two fifths to be monitored in neighbouring planets and the rest resolved to live in varying planets. Most of the new citizens of Garden were of younger ages, in their essential years of growth and development of personality. Generally sheltered in their small planet far from the centre of innovation, Finnegan feared these seedlings with boundless potential would be led astray or polluted by society's intolerance of outsiders. The issue of the future livelihood of the people of B-612 was worked out by Finnegan and his advisors. In the case of the new 200,000 citizens that have just arrived at Garden, the problem was easily solved. Finnegan, following the tradition of Emperors bestowing a 'gift' upon the people when they ascended the throne, commissioned schools of primary, secondary and tertiary level, to be made accessible to the common populace. All ten years of primary schooling was made compulsory for children from ages eleven to twenty-five, where they were taught literacy, numeracy, cultural studies, ancient Earthen history and modern (starting from the Golden Age of Spatial Science) history. A condition to primary schooling was that all students had to undertake an extra-curricular course, whether that be theatre arts such as dance, media arts such as photography, writing courses, gardening, or learning a new language to name a few, every student had to be invested in one such activity. These courses served to facilitate the foundation of their Evolved trait, which children at this age typically allowed to guide their interests, or to allow them to find their talents which could help them choose apprenticeships in secondary schooling. Secondary educational institutions were very different to primary schooling, and were specialised to the possible paths of work that could be taken. The first three years of secondary schooling prepared students for the wider world, in contrast to primary teachings which largely explored the Eldridge empire at its social, cultural and historical levels. Past these initial years, students were encouraged to venture beyond their comfort zones and find meaning in what they wanted to do with their education and future roles within the Empire. Naturally, not all students were inclined to these adventuring ways and so they stayed inside the walls of their schools, immersing themselves in whatever methods they developed to affirm their future paths. It was during these years that students were convinced to join various organisations that held their talents in high-esteem. The education system, which started running five years after Finnegan ascended the throne and had been effective for the past seven years, would be made available to the inhabitants of B-612. 

Vincent heaved an exhaustion filled sigh as he collapsed onto his bed; the comfortable and pliant mattress molding to his form. Today had been difficult to say the least. The constant stress of interacting and holding sustained conversations with new people had worn down his nerves. Vincent felt the mattress deform to accommodate another body as they laid down next to him. Finnegan held his brother against his chest. He could feel Vincent's breath hot against his neck and the harsh rasps as he tried to control his body's reaction.

"Listen." 
Vincent was startled from his thoughts by the word that floated out of Finn's lips in a rushed exhale. He nodded to show Finn he was here now, snuggling into his chest and following the familiar rhythm of Finn's soft and deep breaths. 

"Let's tidy up your garden and courtyard tomorrow."

In the Year 2158 under the Imperial Eldridge rule, the young emperor Finnegan Eldridge, of only age 41 has grasped his ever-expanding Empire with an iron fist. External threats eliminated and his government maintaining a facade of stability; he and his council are now faced with the slow but detrimental degradation of planets and the almost unnoticeable halt in humanity's evolution. 

Imre Brennan and his family, like all the residents of Planet B-612, have recently been escorted to the capital, Planet  A-103 or better known as 'Garden', due to an abundance of high-quality mecha stones detected in the bedrock of their planet. 

Eldridge's Commander in Chief, Vincent Gabel, has never considered the possibility, in the remaining 200 years of his lifetime, of finding his Omega or that they would even accept him. Not with his identity and the unpredictability that comes with being the Emperor's closest advisor.

"This school is the most top-ranking education facility for young people like you!" Christopher exclaimed.
A weird fusion of the new and the old gave off odd combinations of automatic glass doors and glossy marble tiles mixed with rows of antiques. The exquisite golden velvet wallpaper plastered the wide hallways while expensive oil paintings were found very few meters we walked.
I was impressed by the school's efforts to decorate the school as an expensive hobby for the rich as they had mixed in all the luxurious furnishings throughout the times.
"How many students are within the school?" I asked when I noticed that the large facility was void of students.
I could not recall seeing any student during the duration of the tour. It was odd how empty the school was during one of its busiest hours.
"There are about ten students per grade level in this school. I am your homeroom teacher that will help you adjust to the school properly." Christopher led us into the deeper parts of the school.
I tried not to face Luke's enthusiasm as his eyes sparkled with excessive pride and excitement. Luke struggled to keep his poker face with a big smile plastered over his angelic face.
I was sure that if he always appeared with a grin, he would gather a massive number of followers with his innocent appearance. There was no one more handsome than a good-looking person who smiled at you.
"First of all, I'll give you your timetables for the remaining year of your grade level. It'll be hard catching up to the rest of the students but as long as you work hard, I feel like you will be able to mingle well with your peers soon." Christopher handed us a thick document that contained our timetables.
I wondered why a timetable would be as thick as a slapstick until I, unfortunately, glanced at the outline.
My inhumanely looking timetable reflected my devastated eyes that desperately wanted a break from studying. I had died before I could enjoy my life after writing the SATs. It seemed that I would never get to enjoy my life while I almost sobbed at my new schedule.

My free time started at 12AM! I wondered when I would have time to even sleep! I remembered from my past life that children at a young age needed a sufficient amount of sleep to have their brains properly developed!
In a study, it was proven that children in Finland performed better than other countries because they had the shortest hours of class and homework.
However, it appeared that the people in this world never conducted the same study as they overwhelmed its students with the longest classes.
I could not imagine how much homework I would get from all of these classes. I predicted it was going to be tedious to go over everything I had despised in my former life.
I sighed as I had a miserable feeling that Luke would drag me out to "extra study sessions" in the free period with the lure of using his luxurious desserts.
I couldn't complain about being in the S-class now during the past several days. I guessed this was what happened when you didn't know how privileged you were. In S-class, I got to eat dinner with my family, but I only had one-hour breaks in the hell-like schedule.
I contemplated whether I would sanely graduate kindergarten in my right mind as I slowly lost my bright smile while I despondently studied for my SATs.
I hit both of my cheeks to try to stay positive as I overwhelmed myself with negative thoughts.
"When does this schedule start?" I reluctantly asked as I determined that this new schedule would not define who I would become.
"Tomorrow," Christopher passed me some ice to help with the pain of my red cheeks.
I was losing my sight of life with manga, light novels, and anime that drifted away from me every second I remained in the intense high-ranked school.
I convinced myself that I would not faint when I was losing sight of my daydreams of taking long naps in a plain kindergarten.
The good times of a wholesome childhood slammed in front of me like a guillotine that killed dreams.
I was led into the cafeteria after several detours that had a small café. I found cute furnishings of adorable small wooden tables and cute white laced chairs that had their heights adjusted for its use mainly purposed towards young children. The warm reddish brown floors gave off a comfy and homey feel like it was trying to fill in space from separating young children from their families.
The glass walls allowed the sunshine to tumble through into the café as it pleasantly lighted up the entire atmosphere.
However, the café was similarly empty like the rest of the facility as there were no signs of any staff. There was a long flat tablet on every table that grabbed my interest after I studied the refreshing café.
"What's that?" I asked while pointing at the tablets.
"You order food from the tablets and the food will appear on your table immediately on the metal circle on each table," Luke answered.
No wonder I didn't know why there was no staff. This world seemed to have some magical properties that my past life didn't have, otherwise, the immediate appearance of the two worlds looked very similar to each other.
Afterward, we were led to the music classroom where Christopher asked us to choose one instrument that we wanted to play for the rest of kindergarten. Luke immediately chose the violin and forced me to choose the same.
I did play the violin in my past life and it was pretty miserable to your ears when you got to the higher pitches with the wrong tune. However, since I had the experience, I didn't argue with choosing the violin as I concluded that it wouldn't be as bad as choosing another instrument that I would have to learn from scratch.
We exited the music room as Christopher gave us a tour of all the remaining classrooms for academic learning purposes. They were duplicates of the S-class classroom in my old school. Why was I not surprised?
After exploring all the normal academic classrooms, we led into the dark spiraled stairs into the basement to finally arrive in front of the mana training room. Christopher opened up the metal steel door that led to a huge open space of endless white walls and floors.
"This is where you will learn how to manipulate and control mana!" Christopher started to explain.
"This is a class that you didn't do at your old school, so look forward to it!" Christopher let us look around the mana training room before we were escorted back up to the surface.
While I explored the fascinating endless room that spanned into infinity, Christopher yelled that we had free time to look around until 6PM to meet back at the cafeteria.
I felt faint after exploring the ancient, but the well-maintained building as I blinked frequently to keep myself awake.
While Luke was glancing at the fancy paintings, I retraced my steps to the glass greenhouse that I saw during the tour. I avoided Luke's observant line of sight as I stifled my emerging happiness when I noticed a comfy bed in the middle of the greenhouse.
The picturesque view of blooming flowers surrounding a white-sheeted bed left a great impression in my memory.
'Is this a painting?' I appreciated the lovely view.
I tried opening the door to the greenhouse to see that it wasn't locked! I went inside to lay down on bed almost immediately. The king-sized bed had white fluffy pillows with soft white blankets. I flopped onto the bed with a big slump as I embraced the coziness enveloping me inside with a nice fragrant aroma coming from the flowers.
'Ahh. So this was what paradise was like~ .' I relaxed as I closed my eyes in peace.
I opened my eyes when I couldn't ignore a feeling of a piercing stare urged me to get up while interrupting my sentiment of harmony with the luscious flowers.
It took a few flutters of my orange-speckled pupils to widen up by shock while I admired the mirage of a child standing in front of me. The child that was around the age of four with bright purple amethyst eyes with flowing hazelnut splattered hair wore a square patterned red and beige blazer with a white shirt combined with a silk red tie. The formal beige knee-length colored shorts with shiny dark brown shoes made me thought that the uniform must have cost a lot.
Maybe from I was struck with a loss of words from just staring at him due to his carefully sculpted face that I didn't immediately notice that he held a long sword in one of his hands.
A highly-decorated katana sword in a shiny blue casing with gold and white embellishments bloomed like vigilantly engraved lilies.
The sword resembled an ornament more than a weapon for practical use. I respected the well-made piece of craftsmanship with the tiny details finely making it look pleasing to the eye.
Maybe I should have noticed the oddness that such a young child possessed a weapon that could kill. A sword that possessed hints of regularly being sharpened with its fierce shine around the deathly edges.
I clasped my hands together as my eyes sparkled with pure appreciation. The tint of tears in my eyes created an adorable silhouette as I asked, "Wow~ This sword looks so prewttty. Can I try holding onto it?"
I could try holding onto the beautiful weapon while taking the dangerous item away from the child who probably didn't know the purpose of the fine ornament he held. Who knew what a young child could do with such a weapon?
The boy handed me his sword with no hesitation which I try to receive with both of my hands.
However, I barely got to touch the sword for more than a second as I was surprised by its heavyweight. My fingers and arms instantly ached from overexerting them from the brief second.
The sword clattered onto the glassy floors as I dropped the precious heirloom onto the floor the next second.
I was deceived by my initial impression of its weight as the young child had held the sword with quite a bit of ease. I could not find a single sign of the toddler struggling as he casually walked around lightly like he held nothing.
'How could a small sword be this heavy?' I detected all the heavy metals like pure diamonds and gold infused into the sword. The metallic silver and white gold mix gleamed with its sharp edges.
Wait. Wasn't I trying to take his sword away from him? When I was able to drift out of my thoughts, the child picked up the sword with ease and placed it into his carrier on his waist.
'This child does look experienced,' I convinced myself as I chose to remain ignorant that a young toddler held a deadly sword.
Maybe it was better to just leave it with him, I deluded myself.
To distract the doll-like creature in front of me, I decided to introduce myself. "Hello! I'm Rika!"
"I know, you're the person whose partner is Luke." The child responded quite indifferently.
"How do you know Luke?" I asked curiously as I knew that Luke was new to this school as much as I was.
"Luke's family and mine have been friends for a long time. We used to be very close before we drifted apart a little when Luke failed to get into this school because of his partner," The boy threw me a fleeting accusing glance, which I somehow discerned couldn't be any good news.
No wonder Luke wanted to get into this school so badly. It was because all his friends were there. I felt apologetic to Luke, but I'm glad I didn't get into this school in the beginning.
I was thankful that I was able to be with my new parents or else I wouldn't have the chance to know about their warmth that would encourage me to survive with this crazy schedule without falling ill all the time.
I stopped overthinking as I sunk back into the bed to relieve my incoming waves of stress when I recalled the insane schedule I would go through tomorrow.
'Let's go back to sleep for now,' I started to relax in the scenery in front of me.
"Alex, have you seen Rika?" Luke came in with tired frown when I just started to enjoy myself while I bathed in the warm sunlight.
Alex pointed to the bed while I quickly pretended that I was already asleep. I knew that I couldn't trust Alex after he said that he used to be close with Luke! What regret! I could have escaped to somewhere else by then I became lured in with Luke's bribes.
Luke walked towards the bed as he yelled, "Rika, I know you're awake. Stop pretending to be sleeping."
It was creepy how Luke was way too capable while Alex emitted a similar aura as him. I discovered that a combo of two strangely mature chibi ikemen that were together was then one chibi ikemen.
I stopped laying down and sprung up from the bed as I asked with annoyance, "What do you want?"
Luke lightly flicked me my forehand as he frowned, "It's already 5:50. We need to head back to the cafeteria."
I was dragged into the cafeteria to eat dinner with Christopher. Surprisingly, the food melted into my mouth with the carbonara pasta with bread and fruits for dessert. I couldn't stop eating until I found my disappointing empty plate.
When my empty plates disappeared when I put them towards the center of the table while I followed Luke, Christopher announced that he would lead us to the dormitory-like building.
I thought we would enter one of those fancy rooms with crystal chandeliers and fluffy huge beds, but we were led to a basement with rock walls and stairs resembling the medieval times. Christopher led us to a room with rock floors, an old wooden door, and straw beds. The only thing that looked modern was the uniforms hung on the hanger and our backpacks that contained all the necessary materials needed for studying.
I cringed when I found the washroom was, unfortunately, the same with the toilet resembling the ancient times with only a wooden pail to take a shower from the water that came from a well. I faced the dark well compromised of rocks right beside the room where you had to pull the rope to gather the water from another wooden pail.
I honestly felt like crying. I grabbed Luke's hand for comfort and lost all hope for the future. Just to make sure we weren't in the wrong place, I asked, "Are we supposed to live here?"
I stuffed my tears that seemed to pour out any moment as Christopher answered with a generous smile, "Well, it depends on you. As soon as you accumulate enough points, you can 'buy' things to upgrade your rooms. Points are granted based on the results of your exams and tests."
I guessed this was the solution to motivate young children to study in those insane schedules. Planting a trauma in these children's lives was what they unfortunately used. Even I had to admit that it worked at least for me because today was the day that I swore to myself that I would study harder to get to at least sleep in a decent bed.
It was an effective strategy for children who weren't used to living like the historical old times.

I was captured and put onto a stake to be lit on fire as part of the ongoing witch hunt conducted throughout the land. I had to do something. But, this life really sucked. 

This all started when I was accidentally killed by God. 

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to kill you. It was just that I was overworked lately by my superior and I just wanted some time to relax and vent my stress out," he confessed.

"So, while I was snacking, I accidently dropped one potato chip into the human realm where the child tripped over the potato chip onto a den of steep stairs." God guilty admitted.

So I reincarnated into the most adorable girl with the largest orange-speckled eyes that contrasted her pale white skin void of any imperfections.

'How could someone look this pretty?' I thought as I admired my new appearance.

I was nowhere close to this pretty in my previous life. Did God put me into this new vessel as an apology?

But some things were too good to be true.

"We can do this the nice way or the hard way," My fiancé’s brother started off.
"The nice way is where you willingly come with us back to the first district and the hard way is where we forcibly take you back, which would be hard for all of us," Lucius gave me a warning.
Why was my life so depressing? He practically meant I didn’t have a choice!

Few months later, I was at a party that I planned to escape from my fiancé’s family.
"I still get to continue with my naps on the weekends?" I tried to confirm with them.
No one answered as I almost cried from giving up my rare nap times from the mess I got involved with. This life was too bothersome!

"Hey! So I figured since I have covered a decent number of type of shapeshifting for you to digest we could take a break from listing types for a chapter." 
"I decided now would be a good time to bring up the topic of Anti-Shapeshifting before jumping back into more types to overload your brain with." ;P
"First, a bit of information regarding things in general. In most stories, there is a means to cancel out, remove, overpower, etc specific types of spells in the worlds. One can use water magic to destroy an incoming fireball. Things naturally have means to override them. Keep in mind that if there is no way to counter something it becomes very overpowered. Though I guess most stories want a super overpowered MC so watch it if you care."
"Shapeshifting is no different. Lore for this, however is almost non-existent so I have created some lore based on observations and fragments of the lore that do exist. Please understand that you can find other ways to pull off anti-shapeshifting that I have not introduced. There must be ways to overcome things. Unless you are writing an 'I am always the best' or a horror... then you can be as hopeless, doom and gloom as you want." (Author rant)
"When dealing with Anti-shifting there are a few things to consider. There are examples below. Don't be surprised if the things shared did not cross your mind. You will have ideas that won't cross my mind either. To determine the effects of canceling out shapeshifting, you have to determine the way that particular shapeshifting works (Not to an extreme degree) and your intention behind your anti-shifting."
"The first method I will discuss for anti-shapeshift is to 'lock' the transformation. The more common method is revelation followed by lock. There are other methods as well and I may get to them. These types of things can be created in many ways. There isn't really much lore regarding this so be creative in your methodology."
"Locking transformations. While I said this is one thing, it is actually many. Locking transformations is creating a space or targeting a creature to prevent the mutation or shifting of the body. Results vary based on your shifter lore and the intention of the ability. One example of a question you may need to ask yourself:
1: Does your shapeshifting require energy to maintain the shape? Yes see 1.1 No see 1.2
1.1 Form lock will usually have one of two effects depending on the intent of the spell. Most often used: Form ejection- forcibly revert to the base form and prevent further transformation while active. Less often used: Form stabilization- While active the transformation no longer requires energy to maintain and transformations cannot be used while active. *We will talk about the second more later*
1.2 Form lock typically has 1 effect. Trap in current form. Cannot use shifting to other forms. I will share more about this at the same time as Form-stabilization."
"Form lock is not the most ideal way to handle a shapeshifter. However if shapeshifting has special conditional factors, form locking can become a shapeshifter's doom. The most common method of harm happens with time based or conditional transformations."
"1.1's issue. Many types of temporary shifting have a force end timer. By extending that timer you can cause one or many problems. The example I will give, even though there are more ways to do it, is a partial possession shapeshift. Most partial possession shapeshifts not only require your energy but also the other creature's energy to maintain. Once that is gone and stabilizes, Mutation occurs. The host's body starts 'normalizing' the transformation. Basically, it starts making the transformation a natural part of the host instead of a transformation. This can also lead to monsterfication. However I will talk about '-fications' in another chapter.
"1.2's issues part 1. If you captured a stereotypical moon cursed werewolf, they were transformed during the full moon and you form locked them. What happens after the moon sets? Well, because of the form lock they maintain their wolf shape. Now then after the magic ends, what happens? The reason I bring this up is because of something known as a shapeshifter's adaptive capability. The werewolf form has now experienced how to exist outside of the influence of the full moon. Due to the takeover nature of lycanthropy, would it really shift back to normal? If it did, does the extended time leave side effects? If it doesn't then is there a time it would? In some werewolf lore, form lock actually lead a lot of lycanthropes to turning 'feral' (if they weren't already wild enough)."
"1.2's issue part 2. I will use a stereotypical polymorph potion. The polymorph potion only stays within the body for a certain duration of time. After that it loses its effects. Now then, form lock and see what happens… The duration ends, the potion's effects naturally fade, however you are still the other person. Your body has become stable as the other person. Good luck…"
Enya's The humming played on repeat as Eranoth yawned as it was starting to get late again. "Most will avoid raw form lock because it can lead to the destruction of a story if done wrong. Which is why we will bring up the more productive version for most people."
"Form Revelation, reveals the true form of the shapeshifter. (Shocker you could have guessed that from the name.)  This is typically a method to forcibly force a creature into their 'true form' and then perform form lock. If a creature doesn't have a 'true' form the ability often will reveal that they are a shapeshifter and force them into a specific form to then form lock."
"As the second half is a bit more confusing, allow me to explain. Some Form-shifters have more than one 'original form'. So the caster of the anti-shifting ability will become aware of the fact that there is more than one shape and usually will choose the weaker of the two to form lock."
"Again, there isn't much lore as to methods to accomplish such tasks. So be creative. Also you can come up with some of your own ways to Anti-shapeshift as well. This was primarily to show you the big ones."
"Just to give you an idea of  what I mean: for Cursed shapeshifting, Curse breaking, curse suppressing, and curse amplification can all be ways to anti-shift. The possibilities are out there."
Eranoth looked at the time and the strangely silent webnovel chat group. "10:30? Well I should get to bed I have to do some work tomorrow."
