"Yes." Secretary Xiao Liu nodded. Then, he got agitated again. "Currently, because our Zhong Dian website is too explosively popular, many companies contacted us to purchase the copyright to adapt our app. Negotiations are currently going on for all the copyrights for the novels of the five Supreme Gods, and many have already been sold. And the amount earned from these copyrights…" Speaking up to this point, he paused for a while, then cautiously said, "Extremely high!"
Copyright! The explosive popularity on the internet had resulted in various developments regarding the copyrights of the novels!
This was indeed a super good piece of big news. Though a single copyright alone might not be able to be sold for much, with so many books, if they were all sold, how much money would that bring in?! 
"This is good news!" Hong Weiguo was shocked. "Then, Xiao Liu, currently, how much have we earned from the various copyrights?"
Hong Weiguo understood the value of the copyrights. However, he didn't have a clear idea of how much the copyrights for the online novels could be sold for. He only knew that the copyrights would definitely be worth a lot of money!
"CEO Hong, currently, the movie adaptation copyright for the novels of the Supreme God, Dark Dragon of the Universe, has been sold for 1.2 million, the copyright for the television drama has been sold for 850,000, the copyright for the online gaming adaptation has been sold for 1.6 million, the copyright for the publication of the simplified Chinese version has been sold for 2 million, and the copyright for the comic has been sold for 1.5 million." Speaking up to this point, Xiao Liu looked at the document again. "Adding up everything, the total is… 7.15 million. This is only for the copyright of one novel."
Upon hearing what he said, Hong Weiguo and the others stared at each other and took in deep breaths at the same time.

This figure seemed much inferior to the one from the smartphone reading app, but the significance behind this was definitely extraordinary!
Copyright development, what did this mean? This meant that the online novel website still had much more potential to be discovered!
If one novel's copyright was sold, there would be a second one! A third one!
By then, the authors would also write better works, and then it would snowball till a solid and huge amount. In that case, coupled with the earnings from the subscriptions, it would increase in many folds!

"Old Hong, looks like this time, we've earned big money!" Mu Tie sighed. "Though it looks only so-so now, in the future, when it increases in scale, we can better join forces with various companies in various aspects and form a big network! A true network formed between the internet and reality!"

"I'll go, I'll go!" In no time, all the students in the class raised their hands.
"OK! Then let's set off! Hahaha!" Hong Dali snapped his finger. "The outer area of Tianjing Mountain, let's go!"

"Mm, that's good." Shiroishi Kazuma nodded. "We definitely cannot give them any opportunity to attack me. How's the development of the online games?"
"They can already be publicly tested." Qian Youjin slowly said, "The internal testing in the company has been completed; there aren't any problems. But there are many able people on the internet, and it's unsure whether someone would find out any BUGs, so the company's suggestion is to publicly test it for half a month or so, and if there isn't any problem, then we can officially launch it."

Stroking his chin, he mumbles to himself, "I just need to squander 200 billion yuan more to exchange for the blueprint of the core technology, Engine Destruction, found in the strongest humanoid mecha weapon, Neo Granzon. Looks like I'll have to work harder!"

"I want to splurge! I want to squander!"


Fetus Robert was taking a break from cultivating and using his psychic twin powers to converse with his womb-mate. He discovered that although his twin sister had been conceived shortly after him, she had not started cultivating because she did not have a meditation technique to absorb qi energy.   
Robert realised that as a transmigrator, his past knowledge was quite helpful. Popular xanxia novels and anime shows had taught him dozens of cultivation techniques. By combining these ideas, he had managed to create a pinnacle meditation technique that absorbed qi at a crazy rate. He felt he should teach his little sister in memory of another relative from his formed life.
Before his death, Robert had only gotten along with one family member; his younger sister. His father had left the family when Robert was still in pre-school. While his mother kicked him out of home before he was ready. 
Robert teared up in sorrow at remembering how his mother had abandoned him. Like a baby bird kicked out of the nest. 
"I was only forty-five years old," Robert fumed at the memory of his heartless mother. 
"Why are you sad?" Robert's little sister sent a telepathic question.  
"I'm not sad," lied Robert. "Just a bit of dust in my eye. Cough! Cough! This womb is a bit dusty."
"My side isn't dusty," replied his little sister.
"That's because I took all the dust to my side," Robert expanded his lie. "I didn't want you to get sick."
"You're so thoughtful big brother," Robert's womb-mate thanked him.
Such a lie wouldn't work on a normal person. But children, especially pre-born ones, were rather gullible. Like the time this author told a child that the wind was made by waving trees. Or the time this author told a child that ghosts lived on the other side of the mirror.
"Uhurm!" Robert cleared his throat to refocus the story back on him. 
Anyway, Robert's only pleasant relative had been his little sister. She played online games with him and paid for his holidays to Mexico where she lived. All he ever had to do was meet her friend on the United States side of border and give him powder filled water balloons which Robert's sister playfully hid up Robert's rectum. Such a playful little sister.
Robert's only regret was that he'd never said goodbye to her. However, that regret was now mitigated because he had a new little sister. He made a silent promise to do his big brother duty and always protect her. He also began to teach her how to meditate. 
The white haired Robert and his black haired little sister were head to foot in the womb. Like a strange Yin and Yang symbol made from a pair of fetuses. When meditating, the duo would slowly swirl around, like a slowly spiralling Yin and Yang symbol. It was really mystical looking. The fact that they didn't get tangled up in umbilical cords added to the mysticalness.  
The slowly spiralling Yin and Yang fetuses sometimes made their mother uncomfortable. One day, the twins where engaged in much quicker swirly meditation than usual, because Robert's little sister was about to break through from the Pre-Cultivation Initiating Stage to Pre-Cultivation Condensing Stage. This caused Green Peach Maiden enough discomfort that she finally went to consult with the physician who lived in the Valley of Echoes. He gave her an unexpected diagnosis; she was pregnant.
"I'm pregnant!" Green Peach Maiden loudly exclaimed.
"I'm pregnant!"
"I'm pregnant!"
"I'm pregnant!"
The shocking statement echoed across the valley.
"Someone is in trouble," a tall bystander declared.
"Do you think this has anything to do with the ominous event mentioned in the second chapter?" a short bystander asked.
"I doubt it," said the tall bystander. "These chapters follow a set chronological order."
"But that fisherman guy, who we've never met, can transcend time and space," retorted the short bystander.  
This potentially important statement made both of them fall silent.
Meanwhile, the physician named Accomplished Perfect Physician But Not The DC Comics Version, was quickly explaining the birds and the bees to the young, future mother.
"I see," said Green Peach Maiden. "Birds evolved from dinosaurs. And according to some scientists, humans would die out if bees go extinct."
"Precisely," said Accomplished Perfect Physician But Not The DC Comics Version. 
"Well, now I'll definitely pass my next evolutionary ecology test," smiled Green Peach Maiden.
With that the happy future mother left the surgery. Never realizing that the Physician's clever tactic to avoid answering questions he had no knowledge about, had worked.
After she left, another patient walked in. This former man had a truly troubling question. The physician sighed sadly as he explained the gravest consequence of a sex change; no longer being able to pee when standing up.
"I can no longer pee when standing up!" Hero Who Protected Her Fellow Women shouted in horror. 
"I can no longer pee when standing up!" 
"I can no longer pee when standing up!" 
"I can no longer pee when standing up!" 
The shocking statement echoed across the valley and Accomplished Perfect Physician But Not The DC Comics Version regretted setting up a surgery in the Valley of Echoes. Sure, the rent was cheap, but doctor-patient confidentiality sucked. 
"Poor person," Green Peach Maiden sympathized with the other woman's pain. 
She too regretted her lack of vertical peeing capabilities. It had caused her much sadness. She recalled how her father, the Sect Master of the Heavenly Golden Shower Sect had died in sorrow. After having sired only daughters. 
He had in fact been betrayed by his number one disciple; Better Then Lu Bu And Even More Traitorous. The traitorous traitor, known for his underhanded fighting skills used unexpected underhanded means to win in a death-match.
"Father, you will be avenged," promised Green Peach Maiden. 
She had never made such a vow before, because as far as martial arts were concerned, she was rather terrible. The Heavenly Golden Shower Sect's techniques just weren't suited to her. However, now that she was pregnant, she felt that there was hope for revenge. 
The thought of her future son, beating Better Then Lu Bu And Even More Traitorous, made her smile. She couldn't wait to see him rip out her enemy's intestines and use them to strangle her enemy to death, before parading her enemy's corpse like a bloodied marionette. 
"Why are you so happy?" a frosty voice asked her. 
"Princess With Skin Like Jade Number 532C," gasped Green Peach Maiden on spotting the fairy-like beauty. "I was just engaged in girly fantasy thoughts."
"Oh," the Princess pouted. "Girly fantasy thoughts… like your future son ripping out your enemy's intestines and using them to strangle your enemy to death, before parading your enemy's corpse like a bloodied marionette. Those sort of girly fantasy thoughts? I have those too."
"Exactly," smiled Green Peach Maiden. 
She was amazed at how down to earth the Princess was. Usually she never said more than a few words to the Princess because she expected someone with such a high status to have more refined interests. Like coffee enemas and bondage sex. 
"You think too small," ridiculed Princess With Skin Like Jade Number 532C. "Why have your future son merely kill your enemy? He should also kill your enemy's family, so they can't get revenge."
"That makes sense," agreed Green Peach Maiden. 
She took out her note book and began to write, "Note to self. Kill your enemy's whole family so they can't take revenge. Also, get a million year old ginseng to prepare future son for his path of vengeance."
"Of course, that can only happen if your future son is strong enough," scoffed the Princess. 
She knew who Green Peach Maiden's enemy was. And was aware that he led one of the of her kingdom's strongest sects which possessed truly powerful combat techniques. The Heavenly Golden Shower Sect's Poisonous Golden Snow Of Heavenly Vengeance and its Eye Burning Golden Liquid Of Heavenly Vengeance attacks had ended the life of more than one martial arts master.
"My son will be very strong!" declared Peach Green Maiden defiantly.
"You associate with stable boys and that pervy old butler with the twitchy eye," laughed the Princess. "Their children will be weak."
"My son's father is General With Fierce Brows The Color Of Snow," Green Peach Maiden blurted out, sealing her fate and ending yet another chapter on a cliff-hanger.

Story Synopsis: Robert Bobble, known to his friends as Bob Bob, died. You can read the details in chapter one. Anyway, as is the case with so many dead novel characters. He reincarnated into a fantasy world. Not just any fantasy world mind you, but an Eastern Fantasy World. The type where main characters power levelled and villains said things like; “You’re Courting Death!” You excited yet? This author is! So, start reading. Author Notes: I’m writing this story for Writing Prompts Contest #19: Xuanhuan. This will be a short story parody of the Xuanhuan genre, because this author is focused on other stories.

Gu Fei and his father ended their conversation after a period of silence.
"We've all gotta make a living…" While this sounded like a comical statement, it was actually a huge issue to anyone practicing Martial Arts.
Martials Arts was actually a very extravagant sort of sport.
The daily nutrient intake for martial practitioners was high. Kung fu taxed the whole body, so the energy expended daily went far beyond the requirements of an average human. How would anyone be able to deal with a hungry stomach if they had to exert so much on a daily basis? However, any regular household would be able to provide the basic requirements in this day and age.
However, a higher grade of this would be utilizing food and nutrition science, as well as the applicable scientific theory when it came to strengthening the body, training equipment, and so on. These would naturally be far out of reach of what the average household could provide.
It was no joke when the nation would often decry how much it cost to groom an athlete. The purpose of training these athletes was be for them to achieve results. This was nothing like raising a dog or pig, only caring that they were fed and well taken care of. This entire process required plenty of specialized personnel and equipment, all requiring a tidy sum of money to maintain.
It was just the same with kung fu. Naturally, if it was only done for fun and as a hobby of sorts, it would be fine to just casually deal with things. But for martial families like both Gu Families, their pursuit towards martial excellence was a lifelong career, so how could they treat things unprofessionally?
Taking Gu Fei as an example, ever since he began exercising and bulking up to train kung fu, he never had access to anything like nutritionists, physical therapists, masseuses, or any other technical professionals. Without any money, how could he or his family afford such services? Furthermore, how was he able to use any of the strange and specialized equipment used for bodybuilding, since he had no money for them? To have a venue to fit all this equipment also required a proper dojo! Each and every aspect would require plenty of space just to contain them. Was that even something someone earning an average wage living in a eighteen-story commercial housing could afford?
Gu Fei might look like an very poor PE teacher, but it would be a huge mistake if anyone believed that Gu Fei had became a PE teacher for his livelihood. It was just some random job he had found while searching for a way to utilize the kung fu he had learned. If he was truly dependent on his earnings from the classes he taught as a PE teacher, there was no way Gu Fei would even have the funds necessary to buy the equipment he needed to play Parallel World.
The Gu Family's standing in the world of martial arts today was entirely unrelated to their ability to do business and make a living. They had already entered a virtuous circle, where the money they earned was able to maintain the expenses of the family, while their practice of martial arts maintained the family's reputation within this circle. It was just that more and more of the family's disciples preferred to earn money than practice kung fu. Gu Fei was essentially the only sapling they had left in the nursery by this generation.
Every family had their woes.
Most martial families were in an dilemma due to their current predicament, yet the Gu Family on the other hand did not have money shortages. Instead, they were suffering from a serious shortage of talent. The elders in the family were currently considering if there was a need to change the rule of "letting people do as they please". Given the dazzle of the material world they now lived in, where the information traffic itself was so huge, it was impossible for their children to solely focus on just one thing. Even hobbies needed to be cultivated, after all!
Gu Fei had already heard before he left that his uncle was prepared to take in the two kids from his elder cousin and train them. Gu Fei had even seen the room they had prepared for the two; there was a large "Wu" character above the doorway. Anyone opening said door would be greeted with the sight of a curtain that hung above the door, made up of eighteen nine-section whips. There was originally a wardrobe on the left, but it had been removed and fitted with a weapon rack instead. The large antique vase in the right corner of the room still remained, but a Tyrant Long Spear was placed within it, the red tassle under the spearhead poking out of the vase.
The wall across had an exquisitely written work of calligraphy with two distinct characters on it: kung fu
On either side of "kung fu" were the two beds for the two children, both the upper decks of a double-decker bed. There was nothing below it: No bed nor stairs. Only a single rope.
The walls on the left and right side had hanging drawings. The left was the ultimate moves from the 36 Paths of the Gu Family Fist Style, while on the right hung the choice images from the 72 Paths of the Gu Family Sword style. There was also a huge bookcase that Gu Fei had casually flipped through, and every single one featured martial pugilists. There were of course kids who would not enjoy reading, but preferred comics or games instead. His uncle had already made sure that those comics and games were all of the sort that promoted close combat engagement.
"I just refuse to believe that we cannot cultivate an interest towards kung fu if they were to grow up in such an environment!" his uncle declared in his delight. His uncle had two children of his own who ended up entirely uninterested in kung fu, losing him face as a result. The push this time around was essentially his attempt at saving face. Gu Fei seemed to recall that even as his uncle planned and prepared, those two nephews of his were no more than a year old, not even two yet...
There was no guarantee that this sort of upbringing would be effective, either, since that meant the two nephew were now fighting every day, bruising their faces and bodies. They had not even begun their formal kung fu training. Gu Fei believed that there was a high possibility of them internally injuring one another once they earnestly began learning kung fu. He had heard that the family was already prepared for such an eventuality, and had already stocked up on all sorts of drugs and medication that would help prevent blood stasis, even going as far as to discuss hiring a doctor, ideally someone that specialized in both internal medicine and surgical processes, even hiring two if the need arose. This was a level of dedication and care that Gu Fei had not experienced back then.
Despite how hilarious the situation had now become, Gu Fei was unable to find it in him to laugh. If even his Gu Family had their own difficulties to contend with, what more could be said about the other families out there that had problems even making ends meet?
It was with such thoughts that Gu Fei conducted his night session uneasily after logging off early.

He logged on at the same time he always did the following day. He was quite a bit more relaxed now that he remembered he no longer had to race against time to get to some other location any longer. This was also the period of time when Luori City was at its peak usership, as well!
All along the street, Gu Fei could hear the discussion about the huge battle yesterday. But what was surprising was that focus of most of these discussion was not about the Yunduan City players v.s. Luori City's Coalition of mercenary groups, instead about the fight between Gu Fei and Eternal Dominion.
"Did you hear? Someone from Yunduan City had a PK match with Eternal Dominion."
"Yeah, I heard about that too. It seemed like the match went undecided?"
"I heard that Eternal Dominion claimed to have something going on and left first."
"Hey, did he take the coward's way out because he couldn't beat the other guy?"
"Hmm, I think that might be the case…"
Plenty of players believed that Eternal Dominion had came up with an excuse to leave because he could not beat Gu Fei. Gu Fei could only laugh bitterly when he heard this, wondering just how Eternal Dominion lived in Luori City when he was so ill-favored in his own city. However, Gu Fei did not think of how he was seen by the players in his own city as a demonic murderer, somehow believing he had enjoyed great popularity with his people.
"Eh! Guild Leader Oathless, you guys are still here!" Gu Fei had crossed two streets and suddenly discovered guild mates Oathless Sword and Gale Force leisurely walking down the street like tourists, and thus called out to them.
The two men turned their heads back, spotted Gu Fei and quickly greeted him back, "Brother Miles!"
"Not leaving yet?"
"It's not often we find ourselves so far out, so we're using this opportunity to take a look around!" the two laughed. When he got online today, he had seen that Eternal Dominion was not online. Gu Fei reckoned that Eternal Dominion's job as a kung fu trainer might not be as carefree as his own as a PE teacher.
"Then we'll leave you to your stroll, we're both gonna head over there and take a look!" Oathless Sword and Gale Force bade farewell before wandering in another direction.
Gu Fei felt as if Oathless Sword was not in as high of spirits today as he had been yesterday. Logically speaking, he should still be as excited today, having just finished a huge quest. That calm look of his was entirely uncharacteristic of him, making Gu Fei wonder just what had happened.

Oathless Sword had let his excitement go to his head, believing that the quest they had received was something only they had access to. While some had failed to accomplish the quests they were given, that claim from Oathless Sword about being the first Level 6 guild was seen as a joke. In the days that he had been struggling with his own quest, three other guilds out there had already completed their guild quest and reached Level 6 before him!
Out of the three, two actually belonged to some of the cities he had passed through! One was Dusky Cloud's Building in the Clouds from Yueye City, and the other was a guild from Linshui City called Water's Horizon.
Oathless Sword had been so focused on his quest that he had failed to keep up with the going-ons in the game, making a fool out of himself. Level 6 guilds were no longer what the people were discussing. Instead, the hot topic every player was now discussing animatedly was the changes to the Five Unyielding Experts.
After the PvP tournament had ended, even though many players had managed to also reach level 41 just like the Five Unyielding Experts, the experience leaderboards were arranged by the actual amount of experience the players had, allowing them to distinguish themselves thusly. The original Five Unyielding Experts still remained in the top five spots as the first five names on that list.
Recently, two out of the five that had dropped off the leaderboards to somewhere unknown: Deep Waters and Southern Lone Blade.
The two new names that now entered the ranks were currently being fervently discussed by everyone.

Leo woke up screaming.

It was a bad dream.

The Shadow has a long and storied history. Over the course of the character's radio and publishing history, The Shadow became an American icon in his own right, and was even the inspiration for Batman, V for Vendetta, as well as being cited as a strong influence on the evolution of comic book heroes in general. 

The Shadow has many ties to DC, even though the character was published by many different companies at different points in history.  Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, and Lester Dent (who wrote the Doc Savage stories) both wrote stories for The Shadow, among others.

DC Comics first published a Shadow series in the mid 1970's. An aging Shadow also appeared in Batman comics in which it is revealed that (in-universe) The Shadow was Batman's "biggest inspiration", as well as the surprising facts that The Shadow saved a young Bruce Wayne as a boy, and that The Shadow knows who Batman is, but the secret is safe with him. Batman also referenced The Shadow when he was once disguised as a night janitor at a police station, a method which The Shadow often used to obtain access to police records in his day. 

Another couple of DC published Shadow series was released in the 80's, and there was one more in the 90's. The Shadow also made a few cameo's in other comics in the 90's. 

This fanfic blends the radio version with the novel and comic book version. Certain RPG systems have been used to provide stats for the character to make tracking of changes easier. This interlude does not cover the many other Shadow comics, novels, pulps, and even movies that have been published over the years.

The Living Shadow, more commonly known as simply The Shadow, is whispered about but seldom seen, feared and mysterious, but frighteningly effective once involved.
