I've heard of magic before,or should I say the rising of the dead . . . Perhaps in those fictional books where goats and cows talk and laugh but this . . . Naaa this is TOO MUCH.  She isn't supposed to be standing. The last 25 minutes I was so sure she's dead. I was sure my Princess is gone forever. Right now, she's taking a step and looking at me and Nick as if we're the ones who are acting crazy. I watched her fly plus or minus 25 meters and hit a gigantic oak tree where she landed. I rushed to her body which was laying in a very awkward position that assured me that her spinal cord is broken to never be repaired again. I'm sure she doesn't know all that. This is getting way out of hand. It just can't keep happening. I was soo lost in thought until she bear-hugged me. "Oh my baby" was all I could say to suppress the mixed emotions I was feeling inside. Dana will want to know what happened and I don't know what the first thing to say to her will be. But better yet, her mysterious arising saved me from a guilty conscience . . . Knowing I couldn't protect her would've killed me. Sandra must be somehow smiling . . . Upon me? I don't know. Somehow I missed the ambulance's siren as it was only brought to my attention by the man's brittle shake on my shoulder.

I know this is not something that I'm used to but I was sane enough to call an ambulance as soon as I grabbed my cellphone. I gave them our location and they came "as soon as they could" or so they say. I was at a loss for words when they asked what happened but I think I mentioned something about an accident. I had even forgotten the boy who fainted. Does he even remember what he saw?? I guess it doesn't matter now. What matters is that my Princess is OKAY. Too bad I don't know what to tell the paramedics now. He seems kind so I'll have to convince them it was the boy whom I was panicking for. His name reads "McKenzie".
Me: Mr Mckenzie  . . . I said approaching him
Mckenzie: We're here now sir. We'll take it from here 
Me: Nick Simons. We'll stand just close enough if you need anything...
I didn't miss the conspicuous look on his face. Surely he was trying to conjure his own little theory. My panicking over the phone was belittled when they saw the boy laying there with all his vital spots cocooned by nature itself. I felt like hiding... not so fast though

The way he made emphasis on the word "accident". Made me wish my Wife was standing next to me, a man needs saving too . . . well sometimes.

I am wandering . . . that much I am so sure of. What i dont know though is WHERE AM I?? As if things cant get any worse and then it starts raining. I know I have to get home and fast, but where is home? This doesn't feel right at all and knots are starting to form at the pit of my belly . . . I could feel that something is amiss but what? And then i saw it! I Dana Princess Charnelle Simons am lost and now the rain...its raining BLOOD and now I am suddenly running . . . there is a voice calling my name in the distance. . . I am trying . . . like DESPERATELY trying to run to the direction of the voice, my hands frantically waving for anything...shit...shit...shit...my feet are stuck in the mud. The mud is bloody and there are fingers... no these are bony fingers almost clawing at me from my back...the voice is clearer now...farmiliar yet so vague...IM SINKING...through the bloody mud...and then the woman smiles

Alex was walking to the library. He had a strong love for thriller books. He always find time to read, even under hectic workdays. The library was just one block away from his office. So, he visited it on a daily basis and borrowed books often. As usual, he entered the library to greet the librarian, who was a very friendly man. But, he was nowhere to be seen today. Instead a young lady occupies the librarian's chair. 
Alex felt awkward, because he waved to the seat as usual, but today, the person on the seat was a lady that he didn't know. Catherine was at first surprised to see a stranger waving at her like he knew her well. Then, she understood what happened, by the look on Alex's face. He had a sheepish look on his face. Anyway, he walked up to the lady and asked "Is Martin on leave today? ". "No, he was transferred from here. It was unexpected. And, I'm the new librarian ", she replied with charm. "Oh, I didn't knew that! Why would he be transferred, all of a sudden? ", Alex questioned politely. "Well, this is a government library. They do such things more often here. Only god knows, what is in their minds" she chuckled. Alex smiled and extended his hands to her "I'm Alex, one of your daily faces". "I'm Catherine. Pleasure meeting you", she replied.
Alex was impressed by her. A good-looking and charming young lady. He went on to his world of thriller books. As usual, he started choosing a book. Presently, he was into Dan Brown books. Such a classy writer! Alex always thought about the work, the writer should've done, inorder to complete the book. And he felt Dan Brown outruns most of the authors in that aspect. He took out Digital Fortress from the collection and went over to his usual seat, near the glass window.
After spending an hour on the book, he went to the librarian to request a borrowal, before leaving. Catherine grinned at him. "Where are you from? ", Alex asked her. "I live nearby, just 5 blocks from here", she replied. "Oh, I thought you were transferred from a long way to here", Alex said. "No, I'm new to the profession. And I was lucky enough to grab an opportunity in this library", she answered his doubt. "Ok. I would like to borrow this book...", Alex continued and took a few minutes to leave the library. He discovered a newfound liking for Catherine. He found her extremely beautiful and charming. Alex walked back home, thinking about Digital Fortress, but with intervening thoughts of Catherine from time to time.

Zeke agreed. Having to memorize and utter multiple words in his head is troublesome, so he'd rather have one word for all of it.

Zeke knew the system finished compiling it all. He now only needed to remember two, 'System' and 'Check Stats' for checking others.

While Zeke was thinking all these, Charles and Catherine were preparing to leave for the town plaza. Today was the day they were supposed to meet with Charles' old friend.

While the couple is heading towards the plaza, Zeke, who was carried by his mother, is still focused on his System ability. As he planned before, he checked the stats of the people he saw on the streets. Their CP is only around a thousand, with the highest being 1050 and the lowest being a hundred. The one with a hundred CP is an old woman selling some cooked food for a copper.

Zeke was amazed by how powerful his parents are compared to the common folk. He found out that most of the people here have only less than 500 CPs and the people who are above 800 could be counted with his fingers. His parents had more than 4000 and is also nearing 5000, which means that his parents are 4x stronger than common folk at the very least. This then further sparked his curiosity about his parents' identities. He swore to find out whenever the time is right.

After checking people's stats, Zeke tried to open the System Interface. Soon enough, a floating interface appeared in his peripheral view. He had four options to pick with his Lvl 1 system, and those are his Profile, his Quests, his Inventory, and the shop. He first checked his Profile and found out that it was still the same except there's another row of text on the side of his name, which says, 

(XP: 15/100)

He guessed that the xp he got from the two quests he finished amounted to 15 and it only showed after upgrading the system. He was a bit irritated that it takes a lot of xp for him to level up. Even after half a year of effort, he didn't even have half or even a quarter of his xp to level up. He could only hope for easier quests in the future.

Speaking of quests, Zeke also checked his Quests tab. He remembered that he received a quest as a reward for the previous quest. It didn't appear in his view so he guessed that it was just sitting on his quests. Sure enough, he saw one quest there.

Mana Core?


Zeke didn't know what a mana core means. All he knew was that its related to mana and a crucial part of his path to power. He was also a bit grateful for having a time period of 2 and a half year before the deadline, however he immediately felt suspicious. Why did it need 2 and a half years? Is this hard?

'Nevermind. I'll look into it when I get back home. Hopefully, my parents have books regarding this.'


He felt slightly sad after reading the quest, but that did not stop Zeke from opening the highlight of the system. He was saving it for the finale, but since the quest disappointed him for a bit, he just prayed that this shop better be worthwhile. He then chose the shop and opened it. He was welcomed with a list of categories which are Books, Skills, Weapons, and Items. Zeke was excited.

He opened the book section and saw a plethora of books to his liking. It had all kinds of topics, from the ancient monsters up to the medicinal plants. Zeke's eyes glowed by the suddenly high amount of information that he could have after reading all this. This was exactly what Zeke needed ever since he was born in this world. What made him more ecstatic was the price of the books are free! It was all for his choosing! The only limitation was the buying limit, which was only 1 per day. Still, with hundreds of books here, it was already enough for Zeke for a few years.

He then shifted to the Skills section, only to be dismayed. Although the skills in the shop were suitable for newbies, it needed either a mana core, a weapon, or xp to buy and learn it. He couldn't have it for now, but he expected to make use of it in the future.

In the Weapons section, the situation was almost the same. However, it only needed xp as payment with a few weapons only suitable for those with mana cores. He guessed that it needs mana to function normally hence the mana core requirement. He was also a bit dismayed, but he regained his composure after comforting himself that he will soon have access to all this.

In the Items section, Zeke felt a bit intrigued. The items listed only had names. He guessed that he could only see the effects if he had enough xp to buy it. He didn't know anything about what he's missing out of, so he didn't feel that bad about it.

After seeing all the items the shop had to offer, Zeke felt that he was too young to take advantage of it. He then tried to comfort himself by repeatedly saying that he still earned a plethora of books to read.

While Zeke is comforting himself, he and his parents had arrived in the plaza. Charles scanned the surroundings and found the back of his old friend. He then walked up to them along with Catherine and Zeke and nudged his friend. His friend looked around and when he saw the one who nudged him, his face beamed into a smile. 

"Hey, Charles! Long time no see, brother! How are you faring? Does vacation feel fun with your demons?" The middle-aged man seemed like he knew Charles for a long time as he even dared to throw a light insult to Catherine.

"Oh? I didn't expect the great young master of Hydrofrost clan back then to be married! I'm truly surprised!" A low voice was heard from behind Charles, then a woman holding a baby appeared from behind and stood beside Charles. "Long time no see, YOUNG master." Catherine seemed to emphasize the word young too much.

Hearing the voice and seeing the person beside Charles, the middle-aged man slightly trembled. He then slightly sweated and looked at Catherine slowly, his expression a bit complicated

"L-long time no see, Cath. P-please, don't call me that anymore. I'm embarrassed." The middle-aged man stuttered for a bit before scratching his head.

Catherine just smirked, as if finding the man's expression a bit funny. "Still the same, huh."

"I've changed." He lightly chuckled. "But I guess old habits die hard, hehe" 

The man then turned to Charles and whispered.

"Goddamn you! I didn't know you'd bring your demoness here. You should've said it to me in advance so I can prepare myself mentally!" 

Charles just chuckled. The man then turned to both of them and invited the family to the table where his wife and daughter were sitting.

Upon nearing the table, out of everyone's expectations, the infant helped by Catherine, Zeke, lightly chuckled. Charles, Catherine and even the Hydrofrost couple looked at Zeke, surprise evident in their eyes. Why did this baby suddenly become happy?

After thinking for a bit, the four came to a hasty conclusion. The Flamehaven family was very near the table when the baby, who was silent the whole time, suddenly laughed. It only became happy when they neared the table, which means something, or rather, 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞, at the table made the baby happy. They then turned to the infant being held by the man's wife. The four adults couldn't help but smile.

Our protagonist, Zeke, is a normal student who got dragged into another world through a portal. But to his surprise, the deity actually didn't mean to include him!

They moved towards the adjacent hall finding many stands with different items for sale, there were weapons, armors, medicines, poisons, and many things they didn't understand what they were used for. They walked slowly looking at the different items but not planning to buy anything for now as they would not leave the city for a while and Reynolds already had the artifacts he might need, they were provided by Lord Beirut and Lord Leylin before leaving the Yulan Continent.

Reynolds noticed that Demigod artifacts were priced at 10 inkstones, Demigod sparks were sold for 100 inkstones, God sparks and God artifacts could be acquired with 1,000 inkstones while Highgod sparks and Highgod artifacts were valued at 1,000,000 inkstones.

Poisons and medicines could also be valued at different levels regarding their efficiency and target, if the poison was needed to kill a Highgod then the price would be around a million inkstones. Reynolds stopped in his tracks as he found a stand that showed gems and pearls to fortify souls, he had not seen a golden pearl before, but he knew that after refining souls into golden soul essence, one could condense the soul essence into a golden pearl like the one showed on the stand. The price was 100,000 inkstones while the gem next to it was valued at 10,000 inkstones and smiled at the young man who approached with intentions of facilitate a transaction.

"The golden pearl and the amethyst have roughly the same level of efficiency, but it is more difficult to refine them and use the soul essence to nurture your own". The young man was trying to show the benefits of the golden pearl over the amethyst but Reynolds smirked and said. "Give a hundred amethysts". The young man smiled as if it was the best thing that had happened to him in a long time, a single sale of a million inkstones. They soon completed the transaction and left the Jadefloat Palace while Talia was confused about why her father had bought so many amethysts.

Her mother voice sounded in her mind as she explained to her. "Your father has a special constitution and most likely would be able to transform the amethyst into golden pearls without much loss of soul essence. I guess he would prepare a few for us, sell about half of the new golden pearls and use the rest for himself". Koral transmitted pride along with her voice making Talia's eyes to shine as she looked at her father with worship.

Reynolds noticed this and smiled but a moment later he frowned slightly as he realized that this was something that they should not let other people know and warned his wives and daughters about it, Catherine was left out as she did not know about his secret, and he intended to keep it like that.

The Silver Grass City was divided in areas according to different purposes, there was the commercial area, the residential area, the hotel area and several others that they have not managed to identify yet. They arrived at the hotel area and starting looking for a place to live, some places charged a thousand inkstones for a single room every year while others were less elegant but more spacious for a cheaper price. At the end Reynolds found a place where they could get a small courtyard with a main room, a smaller guest type room, a small training room, a spacious bathroom, a small garden and a living room where 10 people could easily sit, the cost was 400 inkstones a year and Reynolds paid for a 100 years deciding that this would be their home for a while.
Catherine and Talia shared the smaller room while Reynolds and his four wives lived on the main room. The girls started inspecting the small villa and adapting things to their taste, while Reynolds started inspecting the amethysts he had just bought. He held one on his hand and willed his purple fire to consume it, his fire managed to gather all the soul essence without wasting anything, and he smiled at his success. He repeated the process with 3 other amethyst and then started working on condensing the golden soul essence into golden pearls.

This process was slightly more difficult, and he could create 3 golden pearls out of 4 amethyst as he found a small waste while condensing the golden soul essence, still it was a fantastic profit with almost no effort. He decided to made 30 golden pears to sell to the Jadefloat Palace and then filled 6 crystal orbs with golden soul essence prepared for the women, hesitating a moment if he should include Catherine and decided to give her a choice. The remaining soul essence that was equivalent to 54 golden pearls was used to start nurturing his God avatar as his saint body and his Demigod avatars had already reached the limit of soul realm for their rank.

He then sighed satisfied with the results and smiled as he felt the soul of his God avatar growing at a slow constant pace, he went to the living room and took a seat before summoning the 6 women. His four wives and Talia were smiling with expectations which made Catherine confused and felt left out of something important, but soon she shook her head as she reminded herself that she was not part of the family.

"Catherine, Talia I have to give you a choice. You might remember that I told you about how my brother Yale went through much suffering when a Demigod who practiced the Edict of Death took control of his soul and forced him to kill his family". Reynolds's voice was unusually serious making Catherine and Talia confused as they were used to his mischievous personality, and he seemed a completely different person.

"I also practice the Edict of Death, and even if my ability in the 'soul control' technique is still lacking, I can place a soul slaving seed and take control of someone as long as my soul is stronger than my target. Windsor, Jenne, Rosarie and Koral have soul slave seeds on them that would allow me to command them and made them do whatever I want making them lose their free will". He could see the look of horror in both women while the other four blinked with a slight smile and looks of complaint making him chuckle.

"That is precisely the choice that I'm giving you, the soul slave seed is dormant, and they have their free will untouched but if another deity tried to take control of their souls, my soul slave seed would work as a defense and block the intrusion. I guess that even a Highgod who trained the Edicts of Death would have to work hard to take control of them, however he could take control of you both with a single glance and turn you into puppets. Do you want to receive a soul slaving seed'?" Reynolds waited calmly as Talia walked to her mother and exchanged confused whispers only to nod resolutely and sit next to Reynolds showing her trust for him as he implanted the 'soul slave seed' on her.

Catherine was hesitant and unwilling, and she took nearly 10 minutes before she sighed resigned. Realizing that she was already at his mercy and depended completely on his protection, she trembled as she bowed to him and waited for the 'soul slaving seed' to be implanted. A moment later her eyes turned moist in relief as she could feel that her free will was untouched.

After the main issue was solved, Reynolds took six crystal spheres containing golden soul essence, each of them was roughly equivalent to a golden pearl and gave instructions to Talia and Catherine on how to use it to nurture their souls. Catherine was surprised and hesitant, she understood that if she had not accepted the soul slaving seed she would not have received the crystal orb. She sighed and thanked him before going back to her room to start using the soul essence.

The next morning Reynolds took Rosarie with him for a trip to the Jadefloat Palace, as he had told them before they would have to remain in the small courtyard until they become stronger, but from time to time he would take one of them with him to explore the city. Rosarie was in a good mood as she hugged his arm and pressed her abundant breasts against him making him smile as he kissed her forehead.

They soon arrived to the Jadefloat Palace and went directly to the third floor to sell the golden pearls, soon they have another 2.1 million inkstones, and they walked towards the adjacent hall. Reynolds decided to look for books that described the Infernal Realm, the Jadefloat Continent, the prefecture they were currently at, and he also wanted to look for books describing the Elemental Laws and the Edicts.

They were approached by a beautiful elf woman with long green hair and bright silver eyes, but her most striking feature was however the collar around her neck making it clear that she was a slave. She bowed deeply showing her alluring cleavage and smiled brightly with eyes half closed as she greeted them.

"Dear guests, how can this slave help you?" Her voice was melodious and inviting making Reynolds chuckled while Rosarie trembled in fear as if wondering how a God could be turn into an obedient toy. Reynolds lifted her chin with his finger to admire her beautiful face for a moment before answering.

"Pretty thing I want books describing the Infernal Realm in general, another describing the Continent, another one describing this prefecture and I would like to see what books do you have that describe the Elemental Laws and the Edicts". His voice was kind but playful and even if the girl was trained she could not help but blush slightly as she bowed again before going to gather the requested books.

He petted Rosarie gently as he said. "Don't be sad, everyone has their own luck and circumstances and nothing is eternal. If she is lucky and train with conviction, she might regain her freedom one day and even take revenge". He then kissed her forehead and waited for the girl to return.

It only took a few minutes for the girl to come back carrying several books and started introducing them. The books introducing the Infernal Realm, the Jadefloat Continent and the Silver Prefecture were five centimeters thick each and costed a hundred inkstones each. Reynolds paid for them and waited for her to introduce the rest of the books.

"Dear guests, this books all mention the different Elemental Laws and Edicts. The cheaper one cost 300 inkstones and only describe the laws and edicts in general, this one cost 1,000 inkstones and provide examples of how to use the laws and edicts while the rest of the books have examples of 6 and 7 star Fiends using the different laws and edicts". Her melodious voice was really a feast for the ears making Reynolds smile as he enjoyed the view of her beautiful body while thinking in what he wanted.

"I guess that the descriptions of the Elemental Laws and the Edicts is what we need right now. Reading about examples of how to use them might indeed be helpful to comprehension but it could also limit us and block our progress". He muttered to himself while the green haired beauty blushed at being so blatantly ogled.

Reynolds chuckled at her distress and paid for the book. "Pretty thing I will take this one". The girl bowed deeply again and said. "Thank you dear guests and if you come back again this slave will be happy to serve you". Her melodious voice had gratitude as she had heard what he said to Rosarie while she was looking for the books.

They made their way back to their courtyard walking leisurely, and he stopped a few time along the way to play with Rosarie who seemed in a better mood now. Reynolds decided that it was not time yet to look for battle recordings of powerful deities using the Elemental Laws or the Edicts... perusing the books would be a better way to start for them.

He put the books on the living room for the girls to read if they want to do so, and he started skimming through them, from the Infernal Realm to the Silver Prefecture to have a better understanding on the place they were and make plans for the future. 'Tomorrow I will read the book regarding the Elemental Laws and Edicts... and I guess I will wait until I complete all the two-way fusions before applying for the Fiend Examinations'. Reynolds thought smiling as he enjoyed the fragrance of his wine, he had brought several interspatial rings worth of wine from the Yulan Continent as Lord Beirut had explained how expensive and different wine could be on the higher realms.

"Sof!" Victor shouted my name as I was carefully arranging the pile of books in the Literarium. It was the day of the big event and Victor choose today of all days, to be funny. I jerk and the book fort breaks and falls to the ground.

He looks at me, like he was really guilty. Thank goodness there weren't any readers around, they would have killed me for the blasphemy, I had just disregarded books in a bookstore. Such a shame, Sofia.

I get back to arranging the books, ignoring Victor. 

"Sof, I'm sorry. I'll help you put the books back. Besides, I was distracted anyway. I'd rather work with you and do something productive." He winked.

My face broke into a smile and I said, "Fine! You can pick the books up and give it to me." 

"Sure, but before that" he says and comes closer to kiss me. He opens his mouth widely and kisses me. My face is now half wet. Victor did not know how to kiss. He kissed like a puppy licks your face. I smile at him awkwardly, "Easy there, tiger. We have work to do." I say and push him gently.

"Sure Ma'am, as you say." He chuckles and starts helping me with the books.

An hour before the book launch was when we were expecting our colleagues to show up. They had started to come, one by one. Aaron seemed really impressed with the arrangement and congratulated 'Victor' for guiding me. 

"I'm gonna get a coffee" I tell them and excuse myself. Aaron was such a pain, ugh! 

I bump into Ivan on my way out.

"Hey! You're early" I smile and say.

"Yeah, figured I'd see the arrangements for the day. Catherine wanted me to check on the color themes, so that she could coordinate her outfit accordingly. It's this whole thing she does." He says looking confused towards the end.

"I get it, she's a perfectionist. She has a great sense of style, it's only fair." I nod, "Anyway, I was going to get coffee, I'll see you later" I say and walk down

"Sure, see you" I hear him say at a distant.

I take my coffee and find myself an empty table. Coffee shops are full of life in the mornings. Its brimming with people rushing to work, people taking pictures of their coffee cups for Instagram, people leisurely getting their coffee and reading as they sip on their drink, slowly. "Lento" I say softly.

"I see you speak Spanish" I hear Ivan's voice from the back.

"Just a few words, you?" I ask him. 

"Not much, but I know a bit, cause I travel around" he says, "Mind if I sit with you?"

"Yes" I say with a straight face.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I'll find some other seat" he says looking surprised and insulted. 

"Oh no no, Ivan, I'm kidding" I break into a smile

"No, it's alright Sofia. I understand. You don't have to try and be nice and force yourself" he says and 
drags a chair to sit in the table next to mine.

I walk up-to him and apologize. "Ivan, I was kidding, I truly am sorry if I offended you." I say, my eyes are almost in tears. Ugh Sofia, why are you so sensitive. I curse myself in my head and blink my eyes multiple times as I look at the floor. It was a trick I learnt, to stop the tears. I look up and see that he's already looking at me. His expression changed. He looked upset and scared.

"Oh no, Sof, I'm sorry. Please don't cry. I was just trying to beat you at your own game" he says and brings his chair closer to mine.

"It's fine, I'm sorry, I feel so silly" I say sheepishly. 

Suddenly a bunch of security guards come into the mall and Catherine Russo follows them. The security guards are all around her and she walks with grace in between them, sunglasses covering her eyes, her high heels making her look taller than she already was. Ivan excuses himself and goes to her and hugs her. I felt kinda left out at that moment.

I quickly get up and walk to the third floor, to Literarium. Victor was already waiting for me near the book pile I had arranged. He smiles at me and tells me that he is proud of me. I laugh, the feeling of being left out died down in an instant. 

The book launch went pretty well and Catherine personally spoke to many readers and answered their questions patiently. I was very impressed with her personality. I glanced in her direction many times and found her and Ivan having their little moments. They looked good together.

"Look what I got you" Victor said as he came behind me.

"Omg, fries! I am so hungry. Victor, you're the best." I say to him and smile.

He fed the fries to me and pushed my hair behind when I ate. Aaron was very happy with how the event turned out to be and we had an interview with one of the most influential reader's digests. 

Catherine spoke to him after the event as well which put Aaron in an even better mood. He asked me if I wanted to be a part of the media relations team of the office as well.

"Oh, I'd be honored Aaron!" I exclaim. After he leaves Victor hugs me and lifts me up and kisses me. 

Things were finally going well and Victor had been so supportive. He pecks my cheek and excuses himself to use the bathroom. I glance at Catherine, out of habit now. I see Ivan looking at me, he smiles when our eyes meet. He almost looked like he felt what I had felt a while ago, like he was missing out on something.

I break the eye contact and walk to the best seller's collection. I knew the look Ivan gave me, the look that said, wish we had more time so that I could make up for making you cry. What's funny was, I wished the same too.

Sofia, an aspiring writer, suddenly discovers a secret that changes her life because of a tragic incident. 

Ivan, a young, popular producer, is living a perfect life and is in search of a story while possibly hiding a secret of his own.

What happens when Ivan finds his story through Sofia's secret. Would he use it for his own good and lose her? Or would he help her find herself again and in return discover who he is?

With Luna's help, he flipped through page after page and soon finished the book he was holding. He recognized some patterns in the runes but most of them were unknown. The problem was that while the designs were accompanied by an explanation, it was of course written in Easan, which he didn't understand.

In other words, to understand what the unknown runes were used for, he had two options, he could either spend some time to try and translate the text, or he could just simulate the rune and see what happen. It goes without saying he chose the latter, it sounded way more fun.

He ran back to Catherine and entered his soul world. A few moments later, he was in his lab and proceeded to craft the first rune in the book. It appeared behind the Plexiglass and without further ado, Joshua activated it, his eyes shining with anticipation.

The entire lab exploded. Before he could react, his body was pierced by shards of Plexiglass succeed by being heavily burned by the blast. The force of the explosion projected what remained of his body several dozens of meters away. He landed on a 17-inch monitor, his head going right through it. His right arm was gone and the rest of his body looked like it was about to fall apart. With great difficulty, he used his left arm to push out his head out of the screen. His face was cut all over and full of glass shards. He spat one out and merely said one word: 'Whoops.'

Luckily, he was a mere spirit and he quickly reformed his soul projected body. Looking at the ruins of his lab, he scratched his head.
'Well, that didn't go as planned…'
What exactly did go wrong? He had runes not working as intended before when he experienced with the basic models, but he never caused a major explosion. While he didn't know what the effect the rune would have, he was sure exploding on activation wasn't it. He considered to mass produce this rune to use it as a bomb, but that didn't seem like a good idea. There were too many unknown factors here. For example, maybe he had put too much energy in the rune, or had put the energy in it with the wrong way. Maybe the rune couldn't be used on its own and had to be combined with another. Or maybe the text he didn't understand just said: 'This is a perfect example of the kind of rune you must never produce, as the design is so stupid, it will blow up in your face.' In any case, he had to set randomly trying out unknown runes aside from now on.
'Well… At least until I manage to build a lab solid enough to resist an explosion,' he thought, grinning.

He spent a moment cleaning up his lab and rebuilding what had been destroyed. The group was going to wake up soon, so he headed for the kitchen and prepared breakfast for everyone. The refrigerator was actually well furnished, he presumed Delila had been living quite the luxury life here. Grabbing a couple of eggs he started making omelets. Joshua was actually a fairly decent cook, following a recipe was like following a software installation procedure in his mind. This random thought he had would soon prove itself to be of vital importance.

As the party members woke up and made their way to the kitchen, they couldn't help but stare at Joshua who was dressed as a famous chef. He welcomed them with a smile, the table was well furnished by now and tasting what he had prepared, everyone was pleasantly surprised. Catherine was glad to see he was back on his feet and acting 'normally'. Of course, he didn't mention anything about the visit he had during the night so he just told her he woke up early to prepare food.

When they were done eating, Catherine decided to hold a status meeting.
"Everyone, with the discovery of this building, I think we have reached a milestone in our journey," she started, " I propose we remain here until we have inspected every nook and cranny of the area."
Everyone nodded, this place was an obvious boon for them, therefore, it was no surprise they all agreed to halt their journey for a moment.
"His Majesty is looking for ancient weaponry. The rune factory we found alone could qualify as a success for the mission," Eric added.
"Technically, he had no idea what he wanted when he sent us down here," Joshua added in a sarcastic tone, "He basically told us 'Go down there and find ancient stuff that can be useful for the war.' which is about as vague as it can get. We could just grab the weapons in the factory and go back up and he should be happy we actually found something."
Joshua didn't personally care for the mission, Catherine and he had a much bigger problem to deal with, the Crow. It just happened that their goal aligned with that of the king or he would have looked for a loophole to abort this ridiculous escapade.

"In any case, we should explore the entire area," Catherine said, "Cynthia, Lydia, and Boris, I'll charge you with inspecting the floors above. It's mostly in ruins but maybe there will be something useful."
The three nodded.
"Eric, Joshua and I will form the research team. We'll examine all the records and machines down here and learn as much as we can."
"About that, unsurprisingly the documents here are written in Easan. Translating them will take some time," Joshua explained.
"This isn't unexpected, can Luna help us with the translation?" Catherine replied.
"We'll need as much sample data of the language as possible. But even then, it will probably take some time. Auto-translation is incorporated in the system, but Luna can't translate a language that she's never seen before."
"I see," she nodded and turned to the exploration team," if you guys find any documents or books while searching above, bring them to us. Even the apparently most useless details, anything should help."
"Very well, we'll be on our way!" Cynthia replied, pumping her fist in the air before leaving along with her sister and Boris.

As for the research team, Eric was interested in the species in the vats so he would start by making an inventory of what was present. Catherine and Joshua decided to read as many books as possible to boost Luna's database. Catherine left ahead for the library while Joshua put the plates they had used for breakfast away.

He opened a random drawer and was surprised to find a book inside. He opened it, and it looked like a cookbook. As expected, it was written in Easan. He flipped through the pages and saw that several recipes were actually illustrated which gave him an idea.

He picked a recipe for what appeared to be some sort of salad. There were drawings of the various ingredients and the required amount. Based on the drawings, he figured out several vegetable names. Next, he moved on to the instructions and had Luna record the text. The first line stood right next to the image of a man cutting carrots in pieces with a knife. He then added 'Cut carrots with a knife' as suggested translation for the first line in the system. He repeated the process for every picture he saw. Unfortunately, there wasn't a picture for every line, so he ended up with a half-translated recipe. Not giving up, he made a guess at the missing instructions and tried to prepare the salad. This took him about 20 min. The end result didn't look very good which made him believe he had made a mistake somewhere. He bravely grabbed a spoon and put a piece in his mouth. It was disgusting. With great difficulty, he swallowed it. Still, since he ate it, Luna could analyze the food and make suggestions on what had gone wrong. He then revised his recipe and tried again.

It was about this time that Catherine contacted him.
"Where are you? I thought you would jump at the opportunity to examine all those runes."
"I think I found a way to improve our Easan that's more efficient than randomly reading books, come back to the kitchen, I'll show you."
She smiled.
"Well, if you think it's more interesting than runes, it must be quite something. I'll be right back."
A few minutes later, she was back and saw him busy cooking. She looked confused so he proceeded to explain his plan to use the cooking book to learn some words in Easan.
"That's a good idea, I'll give you a hand."
Their progress together was much faster, as some recipes were still known in modern-day Cestor and Catherine was able to fill in the blanks.
By the end of the day, they had managed to successfully prepare most dishes in the book.
While they were still a far way off of understanding a complex book about runecrafting, they had gained quite a bit of basic vocabulary.

The exploration team returned around six in the evening. Boris had made a few trips back and forth to bring the guardians they had fought at the entrance back to the lab. Eric had taken out a sketchbook and made drawings and took notes on the various creatures in the vats, unknown or not. As for the twins, they had spent the day gathering all kinds of ruined documents. Joshua glanced through them briefly to look for something easy to understand like the cookbook and rejoiced upon seeing a pile Lydia had found.

"Comic books!"

After dying, our main character found himself summoned by a young woman. She comes from a long line of summoners and had expected to partner up with a powerful being, like the rest of her family. Instead, she summoned a computer programmer, who from now on will be living inside her head. Powerless, he's unable to help her with the upcoming war. Disappointed that neither of them had been blessed by fate with some divine abilities, he decides to build a computer system inside her head himself.

Liam had some preferences when it came to the classes that his father forced on to him but there were many other classes that he still liked. One of them was the history of this world. He was intrigued by the idea that how different a country turned out to be when some small changes occurred in their daily lifestyle.

For one there was a nomadic island tribe that settled and formed the largest nation just because they missed their nomadic routine by 1 week. This sounded to Liam as if they were fiction but his teacher confirmed him that those tales were real.

Even though Liam liked studying he still hated a few of the subjects that he was taught. One of such was Magical studies. He loved reading tales of famous wizards and mages but when it came to learning magic himself he hated it.

Liam was born with a very low magical prowess and him being the descendent from heroes of the nation did not help his situation.

He watched outside the window of the study room while the sound of chalk writing on the board filled the room. Olivia seemed quite interested and copied every word from the board to her notes occasionally adding some of her own notes.

"Haaa!" Liam unconsciously sighed.

His sigh was loud and his teacher turned to inspect. She saw Liam unaware of his surroundings mindlessly staring outside the window.

"What are you looking at?" She asked while imitating Olivia's voice standing next to him.

"The leaves are falling slower than usual."

His teacher confused but still decided to humor him and asked, "Oh, Is that so?"

"Yeah, I think the wind is faster today compared to other days. Soon we might see a seasonal change."

His teacher surprised at his comment it reminded her of the great sages.

"Are you sure that the weather isn't changing?"

His face twisted, "What do you know about seasonal change and weather change, Huh? And why are you so interested?" He aggressively turned to scold his sister.

Liam turned and saw a woman who was in her mid-thirties dressed as a magic caster standing before him. Her eyes were tinted in a shade of green that reminded people of the forest and her face had the beauty of a mature woman which made the heart skip a beat every time they saw her.

He also looked past the beauty before him and saw Olivia chuckling with her full force but even though she laughed full-heartedly he did not hear any sound from her.

"Hello." His teacher said seductively changing her voice to the original.

She moved her wand in her hands and stopped while pointing at his heart. His face turned red and his lips turned wavy.

He felt the wand forcing him back until he fell. Liam rubbed the back of his head after landing but it didn't produce any sounds. His teacher has cast a silent spell on him, the same one that Olivia used recently.

"Don't scare me like that, Miss Gideon," Liam complained from the floor.

"You should have paid more attention to your surrounding." She answered mischievously.

"And you should be more attentive towards people's emotions." Liam glared at her while she mischievously smiled.

She turned to Olivia who has stopped laughing, "Good work on that spell," She praised her. "You really are getting better at casting silent spells."

"..." Her mouth moved but no words were uttered at which Gideon replied with a soft smile.

Her face turned red upon realizing what she had done. She tried to hide her face in her chest and dismissed the spell. She was blushing too hard and her hand did not leave her knees.

"I am sorry about that," she said while rubbing her feet together.

"It's alright honey," Gideon comforted her, "there is no need to be embarrassed about that, magic is very complicated and mistakes like these are common." She turned to Liam before ending her sentence, "That does not mean you should stop practicing it."

"I understand." Olivia regained her composer and sat straight.

"Now Liam get up and take your seat we will complete this topic and then both of you can leave. I think this is your last class today right?"

"Yes,"

"In that case, let's make it quick," she said while walking back to her original place, "I remember when I was around your age I would be eagerly waiting for my teachers to say "That's all for today." and as soon as they say that I would rush out as fast as I can." She chuckled, "There were many times when the teachers would have wanted to say something after the class but I would run before they can start. That has led to me into many troublesome student-teacher meetings."

"Teacher, did you go to the academy to study?" Oliva asked.

"Academy?" She puzzled.

"The academy for nobles and gifted individuals," Olivia explained but she was still confused,

"The one in the capital," Liam explained.

Upon realizing Gideon continued, "No kids, I was raised at the Citadel of magic reunion. Why do you ask?"

"No reason." Olivia vigorously waves her hands.

Gideon suspiciously stares at her.

"Okay?" She confused, "Enough with the chat lets get into the studies and complete this topic so that both of you can go outside and play."

The class went on for 30 minutes before Gideon announced its end.

"That's all for today." Gideon proudly announced as she closed her book.

"Thank you for teaching us." Both Liam and Olivia replied In unison.

"Please study today's topic, I will be taking a small quiz in the next class."

"Yes." They replied while arranging their study materials.

"Liam could you help me bring my stuff back to the carriage."

"Of course Miss." He agreed.

"Thank you for that."

Liam and Olivia grabbed their books and headed outside the study room. Upon seeing a maid Olivia handed her bag to the maid.

"Can you put these books into my room?" Olivia asked the maid.

"Yes ma'am." she gently replied and took the bag. She then shifted her gaze to Liam and asked, "Should I take your books as well, Master Liam."

"That won't be necessary." Liam refused.

"You should hand it to her, It would be rude to make Miss Gideon wait."

Liam thought for a while and handed his bag to the maid, "I am sorry for troubling you." he apologized.

"There is no trouble at all." the maid replied with a smile.

"I guess I will be leaving then."

Liam opened the door of the study room and entered after a short knock.

"I am here, Miss Gideon."

Upon hearing him Gideon turned from the table, she was still packing her bag, "Oh! You're a bit early, aren't you?"

"I handed my bag to a maid."

"I see." .... "can you wait, I still have to pack my books."

"I can wait." He said while taking a seat in one of the chairs.

Gideon charmingly smiled at Liam which made him blush. She then lifted the books from the table and placed it into her bag. The books seemed to magically disappear inside her bag as if the insides of the bags were larger than the bag itself.

"Do you know what happened to your sister?" She asked.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Liam confused.

"Olivia, she seemed a little different today so I was wondering if something was bothering her."

"I think you have mistaken Miss Gideon, my sister, she will never be bothered by anything instead she might be the one to bother others though."

"Hahahaha." she giggled, "I think you are right but if she is ever in any problem I want you to help her."

"I will but I don't think she is ever in any problem."

"You don't know that." She mumbled.

"What?"

"Nothing." Gideon spun around childishly and lifted her bag, "Here," She offered her bag to Liam, "Please take care of me on this journey."

"What are you saying? You know we are only walking towards the gate."

"You're no fun, Liam," She childishly laughed and skipped towards the door, "The last one to reach the gate is a Turtlehead." She shouted and started running.

"That's not fair," Liam shouted from behind while he followed behind her.

"I see that your classes are over," Catherine said when she saw Olivia entering into the resting area of the garden.

"Good afternoon, Mother Catherine." Olivia greeted her.

"Good afternoon to you too," Catherine replied and offer the seat opposite her.

A maid poured a glass her a cold beverage and placed it next to her on the table.

"Thank you," She thanked that maid and turned to Catherine, "Where's Luna?" she asked after looking around.

"She is out there playing with Goerge." ... "I am worried that she is too attached to that dog." She sighed softly.

"I can still remember the time when our previous dog died,"

"I remember that, both you and Liam cried like babies. It was so adorable."

"Yeah," she took a sip from her cup, "Liam did not talk to anyone for a week and father had to discipline him after that."

"Your father, he can be rough sometimes."

"And Liam, he started avoiding pets after that."

"He is sensitive I guess." Both of them smiled.

"Mother?"

"Yes."

"It's nothing."

"Please go ahead, Olivia. Is there anything you want to talk about?"

"It's really nothing."

"Are you sure? This is the first time you called me 'mother' instead of using my name. If there is something you are worried about then go ahead and tell me."

"It's really nothing, I was just-" ... "just-"

"I am here to listen, Olivia." Catherine placed her hands over Olivia's, "I may not have given birth to you but I have never thought of you as anything else than my daughter and if you want to talk to me about something then I am here to listen."

"There really is nothing." Her voice transitioned lower by the end of her sentence.

"If you ever want to talk you know where to find me." her face turned stern and she took a formal pose.

Olivia watched her serious face for a while and decided to speak, "Actually there is something mother," She nervously placed her both hands on the glass,  "It is about me getting into the academy."

"What about it? If you are worried that you won't fit in then it is pointless. If your brother can do it then you can do it."

"I am not worried about that, what I am worried about is that-,"

"What is it, Olivia?"

"It's Liam."

"Oh, My!" Her eyes widened.

"Liam, he, he."

"Don't pressure yourself, dear."

"He doesn't care that I will be leaving for Academy in a few weeks." She began shouting, "He acts like it's nothing, I know that we haven't been close in our past but now that we are friends he still doesn't care. He doesn't care that I am leaving. Doesn't he know that I won't be back for a year?" Her eyes teared up and she started weeping. "He should be spending time with me rather than his friends. Sob * Sob*"

"Honey, it's not like that. He does like you."

"If he does then why isn't he here with us, why does he run back to his friends as soon as the class ends. He doesn't care about me."

"You've mistaken Olivia, Liam does like you. He is just shy to admit it."

"I don't believe you." She sobbed continuously while wiping her tears with her hands.

Catherine spoke with a defeated look in her face, "I will tell you something but you have to promise me that you won't tell Liam about this."

"What?" she said between her sobs.

"Liam is actually working on a farewell present for you."

"Really?"

"Yes, he wants to give a gift for being a nice sister to him."

"Do you really mean that, sniff* sniff*?"

"Of course I won't lie about something like this."

"I believe you."

"But don't tell Liam that I told you that or else he will be mad at me." She wiped her tears with a handkerchief.

"Okay."

Liam was a criminal who died after killing 15 men in a knife fight and was reincarnated as the third son of a baron. He hates how his father treats his family which leads him to become independent and focus on creating his own empire.

A tall woman entered the camp; her stride was calm and confident. Her reddish hair was braided all the way down to her waist. Her skin was tanned from the long hours under the sun, and her expression was as calm as her demeanor. She was currently wearing a long leather armor supplemented with iron parts to protect her neck, heart, and other essential body parts. 
She was quite dashing, and her toned and scarred body betrayed her training and occupation. 
"Good morning, Miss Catherine!" Greeted the many people she met on her way. "On your way to see Miss Mia?"
She was Catherine Brahm, the second in command of the refugee camp. She had never been part of the old army, but she was still chosen by Mia as her second in command, and as leader of the guards. Her excellent work earned her a great reputation and the trust of the people under her. Anyone doubting it would change their mind when witnessing the cheerful welcome she received as she came back from her last job.
"Yes." She answered calmly. "Be careful, we have not yet removed all the dangers around camp." 
Catherine was smart and had a calm temperament. Her only weakness was her foolhardiness when it came to battles; she could hardly resist a good fight. 
The people were used to her personality and did not mind her "to the point" responses. "Yes!"

Catherine was currently on her way to the tallest tent in the camp. She stopped once in front of the tent, but then stepped inside without formalities, as she was used to. The two guards in front knew how to act and did not stop her.
A rare smile showed on her lips once inside. "Already working I see?"
The tent was large, and there was enough space inside for a few shelves filled with books, a soft bed and a few chests filled with clothes and writing tools. Mia was currently sitting, in her pajamas, in front of the table in the middle of the tent with piles of books and parchments surrounding her.
"No wonder they call you the 'Queen of Logistics'. You never stop working! You have to take better care of your health." Said Catherine softly.

Mia looked up from her parchment. "You are one to talk Cat. You just came back, didn't you?"
"Huhu." Laughed Cat. "Guess we are two workaholics."
"You are alone?" Noticed Mia. "So I guess it was another failure..."
"I failed again, I'm sorry." Cat sighed. "They rejected our offer."
Cat's job in the recent days had been to find small settlements and try to recruit people. Her efforts have not been met with much success. There was no reason to worry, however, as there were thousands of refugee camps hidden in this region alone.
"Don't feel bad." Consoled Mia gently. "People are just scared. We only need to work hard to convince them."
"I know." Said Cat as she sat unceremoniously with her feet up on the table. "But it would be so much easier if we had more people. "
"Hmphh." Mia made a small noise as she pushed Cat's feet down. "I know, this is a real headache. We need more people to be able to convince other people to join us. But we can't get more people without having what is needed to convince them." 
As she said that, she stood up as she had to change to a proper outfit.
"Well. It would be much easier for us if we had that..." Continued Mia as she changed into proper clothes.
"You mean if we had the royal garment, right?" Asked Cat.
"Yes, if only I could have grabbed it before the fall of the capital. Who knows where it might be right now." Mia continued. "Another way would be to build a fortified city, one that can stand up to the Kunalls. If it's safe enough, people will come."
Cat looked up to Mia with a sad face. "But with what people are you going to build it?"
"I know right? That was what I was doing right now. But by my most optimist calculations, we'd need at least a hundred time our current workforce to pull it off." Sighed Mia as she finished changing. "Another good reason, to continue to do our best."

Cat simply nodded. She knew how hard-working Mia was. Unfortunately, that was just enough to stay alive right now. Anything more tangible than just surviving required resources and manpower they did not have.
Even their currently stockpiled resources were dwindling with every passing day as they were used to replace tools, weapons, and clothes. This was a very stressful time for everyone.
Mia noticed Cat's expression. "Come on, don't be sour. Let's see how our people are doing." She said as she stepped out of the tent.
Loud greetings came her way as she left the tent. "Good morning, Miss Mia!"
