After being left alone in the solitary space by the old man's disappearance and getting a hellish beating by his apparitions, Zhao Luo had nothing else to do except,

He pondered over these words before going to the next page eager to know the content of this Godly book.
'Flip'
Zhao Luo flipped the page. 
The eager Zhao Luo was shocked after seeing the content of the page.
He stared as hard as he could but for that time frame, after he had turned the page, this page was empty just a simple blank golden paper with nothing written on it.
'Did the old man scam me?'
Zhao Luo thought.
As he couldn't find anything on the page he was going to close the book but right while he was closing it, words started to appear on the page.
The words appeared on the whole page at the same time as if they were submerged in the page before and were coming up now. 
Zhao Luo started reading from the top.
A grand title was left on this page. 
"KNOWLEDGE"
Zhao Luo read the title and an unknowing smile could be seen on his face.
He thought about what kind of knowledge he will be getting as the book was a compilation of the experiences of ancient Gods from the old man's World.
Zhao Luo started reading the page and right from the start he was immersed in it.
The book started with the introduction of a God explaining their powers.
What is a God? 
A being who is all powerful and supreme.
 Not just super powerful but also with different abilities. 
An ability that they had which was unbalanced according to Zhao Luo who had already read it.
It was the power to bring a summoned apparition, which Zhao Luo was able to do, from their mind to life.
They could be brought as physical bodies with just a command.
That summoned apparition would have a solid form. The shape will be as the God that is summoning it would imagine it to be.
The book called this summon a 'Bandit'.
Zhao Luo stopped at this point as this was the last line of the page.
'Interesting'
Zhao Luo thought.
'Maybe I will be able to summon a lion bandit.'
Zhao Luo wondered. Then he went on to read the next page.
But before he could even turn the page, the words on the current page once again disappeared leaving Zhao Luo in shock again.
He had never read a book that had words appear on a blank page. And the page turning blank again once he was done reading those words. 
Like why can't the words stay there from the start and not disappear once he is done reading them?
Then new words appeared on the same page. 
This time they appeared faster than before. Zhao Luo was already getting used to this so he didn't go in a state of shock.
Zhao Luo starting reading again.
To his surprise, the title was still the same.
"Again 'KNOWLEDGE'. This must be a continuation to the ability of Gods."
Zhao Luo guessed and continued.
It was as he guessed. This time the writing continued from bandits.
The explanation was on the power of bandits. 
Each summoned bandit could have different powers.
The power of the created 'bandit' completely depended on the quality of the boundary of the God that is summoning it and the rules of the space of that God.
Boundaries were a measure of God's power.
Every God could set rules in their boundary according to their will.
A weaker God will have a low-quality boundary. As the strength of a God increase, the quality of their boundary would increase.
This increase in the quality of boundary of that God affects the summoned 'bandit' increasing its power and its abilities as well.
The quality of the boundary was divided into nine levels.
Starting from trash, wood, iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, and jadeite.
"Did I read it right?"
Zhao Luo was wondering if he saw it wrong after reading the qualities of the boundary. 
He didn't think that there was a quality level of boundary named 'trash'.
'How lucky one has to be to have the trash quality boundary?'
Zhao Luo had a thought.
Zhao Luo continued.
The summoned 'bandit' had nine levels too.
When the quality of the boundary is upgraded to the next level the summoned bandit will be that level too.
The lowest of the summoned bandit would be a 'trash bandit'.
The strongest should be a 'jadeite bandit'
Yet the book mentioned that sometimes a bandit could hold even more power than it is allowed in the jadeite boundary. 
The bandit would then be a 'crimson bandit'.
The quality of the boundary was easily detected. 
The name reflected the appearance of the boundary. A gold boundary would have gold shine. A diamond boundary would be giving a brilliant blinding shine of light with fiery color. The same goes for other boundaries.
Only the trash quality boundary would have no color yet the presence of that God's boundary could be easily felt. 
That is, the boundary would be present yet missing out on any outstanding feature.
Thus the book decided to call such a God a trash level God. As God didn't train himself faithfully in his journey to becoming one.
"So one can still be trash after becoming a God. The hierarchy is still the same even if one becomes a God."
Zhao Luo chuckled but also felt fearful as he may become the one he is laughing on.
The words ended at the explanation of 'trash' quality.
Zhao Luo didn't even try turning the page. This time he was ready for the words to disappear.
Soon the words disappeared, the page was blank once again and then the next set of lines with new words appeared on the page.
The title this time was different. It was not knowledge, unlike the last two times.
Zhao Luo saw the title and knew that he was finally going to learn something useful.
"Ways"
Zhao Luo read the title which was written in grey color and the four letters shined with outstanding brightness. 
The shine from the words calmed the excited Zhao Luo.
He went on to read the first line which went something like this.
There were many ways to become a God.
There were easy ways then there were hard ways then there were ways that were close to impossible to follow through but such ways showed results that were unachievable by other ways.
Now Zhao Luo thought of himself as he was already on one of the ways.
He didn't know which kind of way was he on. He thought of his journey of mastering the first step of Godhood that the old man had taught him was mastering the Naoli. 
It may have been frustrating at times but it wasn't that hard for him. 
'Maybe my method is one of the weaker ones.'
Zhao Luo thought and compared his method to one of the weaker ways just because he achieved the first step easily. 
'Well, I will know soon.'
Zhao Luo didn't dwell on his thought about his way for too long and continued reading.
The next line was on the weaker ways. It explained in such a way that Zhao Luo knew that he was far from the weaker ways. Too far ahead. 
As the next line's explanation was on how the weaker ways focus on getting to Godhood by achieving the requirements for becoming a God through the fastest ways.
This would help the guy in becoming the God in the shortest possible time yet after becoming the God, his power will be weak. He may even end up with the lowest quality boundary which was a 'trash boundary'.
The example given for this way was that the person will be ale to create a single apparition after mastering the Naoli.
Whereas Zhao Luo was already able to create nine of them.
The harder the way was the longer it took to achieve each requirement on the path to Godhood. 
Yet the result was opposite to the easy way. 
The power a person will have once he becomes a God through this way will be immense and their initial boundaries will have one of the superior qualities. 
The line ended here leaving Zhao Luo eager to know about the difficulty of his way to Godhood.

The young man slowly opened his tired eyes his vision still blurry he rapidly blinks to wash away the fatigue.

'Must have fell asleep while playing the game... damn it.'

He thought to himself thinking back to his previous whereabouts.

His sight finally clearing up after rubbing his eyes he blinks once more before opening his eyes to see unfamiliar surroundings.

Scanning the room left and right he sees a sight straight from a medieval period in the way the room is setup; a large oak bed, thick wood table and a bookshelf.

Everything in the room was thick with dust with the exception of a single blue hardcover book that looks out of place compared to the books on the bookshelf opposite him, unlike their leather covers, this book looks like it was made with modern technology also being much thinner than the room's standard brick shaped books.

'This obviously isn't my room. Where am I?'
He thinks to himself.

Since this place looks as if nobody had lived here for a long time he easily pulls together the courage to explore his surroundings.

While attempting to sit up he noticed something... his hands were strangely small as he placed them on the floor to push himself up. When standing up to his full height he notices another thing, that he is also strangely short, everything in the room being quite tall. His mental notes all come together.

The young man realised he was more of a young boy than a young man.

'This isn't my old body... I must be younger by at least a decade.'

Doing some slight stretches in the empty room to become accustomed to the new body he discovers that wasn't necessary as he feels as if this body was the one he had since he was born.

Ignoring the strange familiarity of his new vessel he walks over to the glaring object of the room the blue book.

Picking up the book he reads the title written in plain English with an esoteric font.

"A detailed study of Runology and Runecraft"

'Author's name isn't written and no blurb just plain blue all around...' The young boy thinks to himself.

Continuing his train of thought since he can read the title in plain English he must still be on planet earth.

'I'm probably somewhere in Europe from the looks of this room. Though how did I get here did I somehow teleport in my sleep?'
Thinking such things the young boy clears his thoughts before opening the book.

Opening the first page he finds it blank along with the second page. Flicking through the pages he thinks to himself...

'Did the ink fade over time until it's no longer visible without ultraviolet light like some old manuscripts in some museums.'

While ruminating on the specifics of the tome a page cuts his finger giving him a paper cut.

Hissing at the acute pain coming from his finger he puts his finger in his mouth from habit.

A gentle light begins to glow from the tome, noticing this, he looks down at the book seeing a scarlet droplet of his blood being drawn into the centre of the page before soaking it red.

The red stain then begins to fade back to the normal white background of the page.

"What just happened? That felt like a knife cutting me..." He exclaimed aloud.

After saying that he notices something black on the page moving.

"That's... writing?... some sentence is being written on the page by itself! is this Harry Potter!?"

Alberto held the black book in his hands in the darkness of his room.
Weird things had been happening to him all day, this book for some reason was like chasing him since he found it by the garbage. Out of simple curiosity, he had looked at the first page, since, although the external cover was full of strange decorations and drawings, there was no title that gave any clue as to its content.
It was a broken book with all its pages glued, it looked like it was made of cardboard and you could only read the first page. He had tried to open on another page, but it was impossible. And in the first there was only a title "Book of the Wise" and a question "Do you want to take the test?".
He was surprised and didn't undertand why someone would make a book so he left it and continued on his way.
The odd thing of his day had come later when he had found it again in the library. And then again when returning home. And while running. And in his room.
Already with more fear with curiosity he had no choice but to take it. This thing was chasing him. He thought it was haunted. He didn't believe in superstitions or anything like that, but you had to recognize that a book that haunts you is to ask you things. Even if they were bad.
He had been looking at the book for half an hour. Ok, he had chased him and once he had it in his hands ... but what did he want me to do with him?

Alberto felt stupid, had been scared to death and in the end nothing had happened. He concluded that this was nothing more than a heavy joke and that perhaps someone would already have the recording of how he was shouting at the book.
But in the next instant a force of suction emerged from the book and without Alberto being able to even realize what was happening he was absorbed by the book.
The room was silent again. Everything was still. But Alberto was not there, and neither was the book.

After Joe had sat there for several minutes, Mike walked up, but rather than dropping assignments off, he dropped a large envelope on the desk in front of him. 
Joe looked at it and then to Mike. "What's this?" Joe asked. Part of him already knew what he might find in it. 
His editor shrugged. "Hell, I don't know. It came in last night, and it's sealed and addressed to you. Why don't you open it and find out for me?"
Joe smirked as he looked at his Mike, then looked at the envelope. It was the size of a large book and seemed to be stuffed full. He flipped it over, looking at the writing on the outside. The return address said Magnum Photography, New York. Joe contemplated not opening it for a minute, but then he tore open the top and pulled out the contents. Inside, he found a large book with an envelope taped to the front. Joe set the book down. He didn't look at the cover of it at first, he just pulled the letter off and opened it. He leaned back in his chair and began to read. 
Hello, my old friend. It has been too long since we have crossed paths, or since I have beaten you at a good game of poker. I did receive your pictures, and I hadn't expected to get such a trove of material from one person. I must say that I don't pay too many compliments to other photographers' work, as I don't want to insult my own excellence, but after having received your work, I must say thank you for entrusting me with your friends' memories.

Joe put the letter down; he ran his hand through his hair and then turned his attention to the book. He picked it up, looking at the cover. On the front were hundreds of small photos of men and women who died during the war. He looked at the title, The Lost stories of World War II.
Joe took a deep breath and exhaled loudly. He sat up in his seat and leaned forward as he studied the faces in the photos. He cleared his throat and then turned to the first page. In the middle of the page was written one sentence. Joe read the words aloud, "To the memory of the men and women who never came home."
Joe cleared his throat again. It was at this time that he looked up and realized Mike was still standing there, looking on. Joe didn't have it in him to go past the first page. He handed the book over to his editor. Mike took it from him and sat down in the chair next to Joe's desk. "This is really good, Joe. I think you will be happy." 
Joe didn't look at him; he just looked to the letter Robert had written. Mike continued to flip the pages and then he came to page seventeen. The title of the chapter was "Island Warfare in the Pacific." Below the title was another envelope with Joe's name written on the outside. His editor looked at it and then slid the book onto Joe's desk. He looked down at the page, and there was the picture of Joe and his friends. He studied the picture and read the caption under the shot. Joe Martinson, Anthony DiMaggio, Andy Cobin and James Dawley, Henderson field on Guadalcanal.
 He looked away from the picture and turned his attention to the envelope instead. Mike looked at Joe, waiting to see if he would let him in on the contents of the letter. Joe opened it, read it and folded it back up. He then stood up from where he sat.

"Yosh, let's start hunting now. I need to be fast, I still need to confirm Granny and Kniana's safety." a big smile suddenly erupted in Khuan's face.

Out of luck, a small Red-Eye Rabbit came out from one of the bushes near me.

"Yosh, I am going to try my new skills on this rabbit."

I slowly shortened my distance with the rabbit. Although it is only a V+ Rank monster, it can still bite. Don't forget that it has poison too.

When I became near with the rabbit, I calmed myself and used Devourer.

"Devourer"

Suddenly, a small pitch black hole was created out of nowhere just above the rabbit. 

It was very black and mesmerizing to see. 

Without even a hint of struggle, the rabbit was sucked up.

Many small rectangular windows popped up just above the book when the rabbit was killed. It seems like announcements like this were not written on the book. 

But the aside, I shouted with all my heart. ~

"What in the f#cking overpowered thing is this?!"

I almost popped my eyes out. Where did the rabbit go? Just like that, the rabbit suddenly disappeared? I have never heard of anything powerful like this before. 

Sy also said that there were new unlocked functions. Are the Gods favoring me now? I quickly held the book and looked at my stats on Page 1.

'Woaaah, there really are some massive changes.'

I still can't believe that I had just acquired a new skill. I am a magician for almost 5 years but I never had the chance to gain new skills. But with this book's system, I acquired a new skills effortlessly.

If some nobles and adventurers heard about this, they will surely die out of envy.

So this is what Stat Points are. Wait, why is my stat points 0? And where the hell is the Inventory?

'Is there some kind of mistake?'

- Maybe it is because of his current low INT that is why our MC asks too many questions instead of finding out it himself -

"Ohh, I see, I see."
"Turn to Page 100, open Inventory."

The floating white book suddenly turned its pages until it reached Page 100. 

'Huh? A chest?' The last page has a drawing of a chest. There was nothing else inside this page. However, when I touched the chest drawing a big blue window suddenly floated above the book. 

There was the word 'Inventory in the upper-middle part of the window. There, I saw the image of the Red-Eyed Rabbit. 

'Hmm, interesting. So it functions like the storage equipments of the alchemists from Britidian. 

"Waaaahhhh!!"

I almost exhausted my throat up. I am utterly confused and excited. This hell of a book is as good as hell. Storage equipments are very very very expensive. Only ultra rich adventurers and nobles have those kind of equipments. But I got mine from a book? Who would believe me if I say this to other?

I continued my journey to the eastern part of the mountains with enthusiasm. With this book, I believe I could a better life for Granny and Knina.

"What's this? The black orb is merging with the book?". When he finally realizes it, he, too, had also merged with the mysterious book.

Is this for real?

"Contract received, soul bound?! Wait, what?!" Arthur was confused and befuddled by the statement that he saw. However, there was no one there to answer his question. The voices that had many things to say earlier seemed to have gone silent after their mission had been completed. 
Arthur walked around the counter so he was facing the book upright. He was trying to get a better look of what it was trying to say. He could have picked the book up and turned it around but he didn't want to touch the thing lest it led to some other sort of accident. 
Above the book title, there was a relief of a very thin crescent moon. With extreme caution, Arthur reached out to touch it. The crescent felt cold to his skin but it didn't respond to Arthur in any way. It didn't glow, explode or do any sort of magical stuff that Arthur was expecting. To be honest, the young man was quite disappointed. However, a voice in his mind told him the crescent held some sort of significance, one that he had not understood yet. 
When Arthur pulled his hand away, his heart jumped because the writing on the cover was changing once more. The title, Book of Thoth had remained unchanged but the rest moved like squiggles as they rearranged themselves to say something else. 
"To know what you do not know is to know what you know. What do you wish to know that which is yet to be known?" 
"Huh?! Is this some kind of tongue-twister?" Arthur was confused by the weird statement but he had a more urgent question on his mind, "What is the meaning of the soul contract and soul bound?!"
Hearing his question, the letters on the cover moved once more. The squiggles swam like tadpoles and against the sandy background, they looked like snakes slithering through the desert. Eventually, an answer surfaced. "Your soul is now connected to the Midnight Emporium. You've pledged your eternal servitude to the store. Violation of said contract will cause your soul to be burn forever in the fire of hell." 
"Wait, what?! I did not ask for this! This is entrapment! F*ck this! I did not volunteer for this!" Arthur thought about leaving the weird shop right there and then but considering all that had happened so far, he was afraid that the warning on the book might not be a joke. He did not want to risk burning forever in hell so he calmed down and turned back to the book, "Is there a loophole to this contract? What do I need to do to get myself out of this unfair contract?" 
The characters on the book moved to say, "There is only one requirement, revitalize the Midnight Emporium to its full glory and you shall be relieved from your post." 
"Revitalize the Midnight Emporium? That's the name of this place, right? How am I supposed to do that?" Arthur looked around the room, the place was abandoned and dead. How was he supposed to bring it back to its former glory? 
Thankfully, the Book of Thoth had the answer available for him, "Complete the petitions you shall receive from the clients and eventually the Midnight Emporium will have its turn-around. Then, your job shall be done." 
"Complete the petitions? What kind of petition? And who are the clients?" 
"There's no easier answer to those questions than throwing yourself into the job. Does this mean you're ready for your first petition?" 
"Wait, so soon?!" Arthur eyed the book suspiciously and he challenged, "Are you sure there is no other way than this? You know that your so-called soul contract is not binding in court, right? You've practically scammed me!"
"The rules of your justice system has no bearing on the contract bound within the Midnight Emporium." Then the book added cheekily as a retort to Arthur's attempt to diss it, "Surrender to thy fate or risk eternal damnation!" 
Arthur found himself cornered. As unfair as the contract was conducted, he was no match for the mythical power that was at work here. With his soul hanging on the line, he sighed, "Fine, give it to me. Let me get this over this." He would appreciate to have his soul back as soon as possible. 
It was unsure whether the book was sincerely trying to console him or it was just mocking him, because it added, "Chin up. There're always silver linings." 
Then, the book started to glow softly like a system initiating. 
Arthur was expecting something grand to go along with the magical experience he had been through so far. To his disappointment, all that happened was the book flipping open on its own to settle on a random page, its glow fading. 
The young man leaned in to take a closer look. The pages were same as the ones he saw earlier. They were empty except for the glowing squiggles that moved across them. 
However, seconds later, they slowly settled into intelligible words. They didn't read like passages but instead they arranged themselves into a page that looked more like an index. Listing from top to bottom, there were, Available Petitions, Client Profiles, Artifacts and Curios, Ability and Magic as well as a bunch of squiggles that Arthur couldn't understand. 
Arthur started from the bottom up because that was the one that interested him the most. After all, he was once just like any other young boy who harboured the dream of flying through air and shooting lasers out of his eyes like Superman. Perhaps this book would be able to help him fulfil his dream. 
The book turned another page and for Arthur's sake, there was a line of explanation underneath the header, Ability and Magic. It said, the powers and abilities useable by the user in the attempt to complete the petitions assigned by clients that frequent the Midnight Emporium. 
"So, in other words, these are special powers that I can use during my missions? It makes sense, after all, if the tasks came from these magical creatures, understandably, they're going to have a certain degree of danger. For self-protection, I'll need powers like this. This is shaping up more and more like an adventure game," Arthur rationalized to himself. The young man was getting quite pumped. He was going to become one of the main characters in the games that he used to play so how could he not be?
Arthur looked down to see the type of special powers that were at his disposal. He expected magic spells like fireballs or lightning bolts but to his grave disappointment, there was only one power listed and it was nowhere as flashy as he hoped it would be. 
The Whispering: Ethereal voices of the woods that drew many a stray villager deep into the forest. The villagers were never seen again but their voices could still be heard echoing in the night, calling for others to join them. 
The user can record any voices into the Whispering and then emulate the voices as how the user wishes. 
Current Voices in Whispering (5/5): The Girl, the Woman, the Prince, Arthur's mother and Arthur's father. 
'Wait, these are the voices that lured me into this shop in the first place!' Arthur realized with a shock. 'So the only special power I got is a silver-tongue? I guess that fits the theme of me being a shop owner…' Arthur's interest deflated. 'Is it too much to ask for an offensive spell? Even an illusion will be more exciting than this…' 
After Arthur got over the slump, he paid more attention to the description. 'The 5/5 should mean that I can carry 5 voices and I currently have 5. I suppose the maximum number can be increased in the future, that's how these kinds of things normally work in games after all. 
'How does this work though? Perhaps I should give it a test run.' Arthur imagined another voice coming out of his lips as they moved, "Arthur…" 
The young man gasped because he sounded exactly like his mother. He tried it again, "Arthur, mother is so proud of you." Even though it was only her voice, Arthur could imagine her mother standing there in the shadows saying that exact sentence to him. As fake as it was, the young man felt equally comforted. After he had enough fun toying with the power, he turned back to the book. 
Arthur frowned, 'Who is the girl, the woman and the prince? Why are their voices already recorded in the Whispering? Is there a significance to this or they're just random voices?' He waited patiently for the words on the page to move but there was no answer. 'I guess I'll never know.'
Moving on, Arthur turned to look at the page for Artifacts and Curios. Similar to before, it also came with a line of explanation, mythical and magical treasures that are to be gathered for the Midnight Emporium.
Arthur expected a long list underneath it but all he could see was a big block of squiggles. Just as Arthur was trying to make sense of it, he remembered a particular line of introduction about the Book of Thoth, the book offered varying intelligibility depending on the reader. 'I suppose this means that as time goes by, I'll get to read the pages with increasing clarity.'
With no other information to gather from Artifacts and Curios, Arthur turned to the page for Client Profiles. Similar to the previous page, it was filled with unintelligible squiggles. 'It makes sense, after all, I've not met any of the clients yet. It'll probably fill up with their notes after I interact with them, it's kinda like the Pokedex entry in Pokemon.' 
Finally, Arthur turned to the page for Available Petitions. Surprisingly Arthur, there were already two petitions listed.
