Alexa came home early today. Her conversation with Mark opened windows to several possibilities, she had a lot to do and was very anxious about it. All the way home, she thought about the things he said.

"She wants to be famous, but we don't want her to be physically exposed or for the people to know where she is. There's a place where she can do this: on the internet."
"You're right! I hadn't thought of that!"

If Caelia were an internet personality, she wouldn't have to worry about commotions like the ones that happened in Asteria. She wouldn't even need to leave the house, which would make it easy for Alexa to keep track of her.

"Don't cheer up so fast. Don't forget, the internet is a cruel place, especially for someone who has no idea what it is."
"Yeah... I think so."
"You'll have to guide her. You think you can do it?"
"Leave it to me!"

Alexa was excited before, but only now she realizes the responsibility she have in teaching a goddess who never had contact with technology about the complex universe that is the internet. At the very least, she hoped Caelia hadn't run away from home again. Upon entering her house, she wastes no time in changing clothes and goes straight to her bedroom.

"Caelia, I need to talk with... what are you doing?"

Caelia was on Alexa's bed, leaning over a stack of books. She was staring steadily at one in particular, but she was barely able to hold it, as her hands were shaking nervously. Her breath was heavy and her face was flushed, she was visibly apprehensive and Alexa couldn't understand why.

"Nasty... this is too nasty! But for some reason, I can't avert my eyes off this thing! What is this, some kind of wizardry?! Help me, Alexa!"

Alexa manages to take a look at the content of the book she was reading and realizes the reason for her nervousness. It was a BL novel, the type of reading that attracted a female audience interested in homosexual relationships of the opposite gender. Alexa had bought this out of curiosity, but she never brought another similar book home, not that she didn't like it, she just wasn't interested enough. It wasn't even a heavy one, but it was enough to make Caelia speechless.

"Why are you acting like this? It's just a..."
"No! This is not just a book! This is... a relic!"
"What are you talking about?"

Caelia grips the book stronger, she looked like she was about to pass out at any moment.

"As a goddess, I thought that nothing else could surprise me, but it seems that again I was wrong. Right now, I feel powerless, and it's all because of this! The human technology is really frightening!"

Alexa lets out a sigh of concern, but also of relief. It was nice to know that this time she had obeyed her request and stayed at home until she arrived, although the book helped her with that. It made things easier, now she was ready to take the next step.

"Listen, I know you were having fun, but I'm about to show you something even more frightening."
"More frightening than that?!"
"Yes. I'll teach you how to use... the computer!"

Alexa looks at her desktop computer which wasn't of the latest generation but also not to be thrown away. She was into games, but not enough to invest a lot of money in her computer's performance.

"You mean, that thing? It was on my side all the time, I didn't know there was anything special about it."
"Don't worry, you'll be impressed by it soon."

She presses a button on the CPU that makes the monitor screen glow. In a few seconds, it loads all its initial applications and it was ready to be used.

"Okay, this is a computer. It's a machine that serves to perform various tasks. Nowadays, it's impossible to live without one, and practically everyone has at least one of these at home, but the way they use it is what sets them apart. Some use it to work, others to study, others to play... in other words, much of people's identity is related to how they use this machine. That is why you will learn it."
"I see..."

Caelia still didn't quite understand what Alexa was trying to do, but knew that she was trying to help her. Even so, she was unable to put aside her skepticism, after all, for her this thing was just a bunch of boxes and wires that didn't make any sense.

Alexa gets excited. It seems that things would work out more than she expected.

"Okay, now let's talk about the internet. You know, the computer itself is a wonderful thing, but it gets even better when you add the internet. With it, you can connect in real time with all parts of the world and communicate with whomever you want, no matter the distance."
"So it's like high level telepathy?"
"Kinda... but this is a very rare skill. I bet you can do that too, huh?"

Caelia nods in agreement. Alexa wasn't even surprised anymore at this point.

"Well, this is not just limited to communication."

Alexa types a bunch of words on an internet search site and in seconds the screen reveals several images of Caelia, as well as news regarding things that have happened in the past few days.

'Hey, that's me!"
"Yep. You're famous, you know. Thanks to the power of the internet, everyone is talking and sharing information about you right now. By the way, this is a search engine. You can type whatever you want and it will show you all the information you want. Even BL novels, but please, don't do it."

Thanks to Alexa's demonstration, Caelia was gradually gaining interest. It was still a little complicated for her, but it was curious enough for her to want to understand.

The thing is: if you want to be recognized by your actions and know the repercussions you're causing, you will have to create an account on a website like this."

Alexa drags the mouse to the search engine of the site and starts typing again.

"Now here's the problem."

As soon as she finishes typing Caelia's name on the search bar, several profiles appear with her name and image.

"Hey, these aren't me!"
"Exactly. It happens when you're famous. Let me tell you something: the internet is a blessing, but also a curse. Some people are blinded by freedom and end up doing bad things, like creating fake profiles and spreading fake news. Not all of them are really bad, some just want to have fun, some just want to draw attention, the fact is that if you go online, you'll need to know the best way to act in these situations."
"And how would I do that?"
"You probably won't. But don't worry, I'm here to help you."

Caelia continued to watch Alexa explaining her about the benefits and harms of the internet with attention. It was amazing how she could ease her worries in a matter of seconds, she really felt a confidence coming from Alexa.

"Alexa, why are you doing this for me?"

Alexa pauses. Caelia's sudden question makes her lose her concentration and feel embarrassed.

"Well, you know... I don't know... maybe because it's fun... ehehe!"
"Fun?"
"Yeah! I mean, that's what friends do."

Alexa gives her an awkard smile. Caelia doesn't know how to feel yet. When did they become friends? There was no such thing as a contract or request of some sort. What friends even are in the first place? The only close relationship she had before was with her sisters, and yet it wasn't a very friendly one. It was much more corporate, as if they were just together to fulfill their role as goddesses.

"A-Anyway, let's proceed."

Thirty years after the Great Prohibition, also called the Great World Purge, everything had returned to a state similar to before the internet phenomenon on the nineties.

The net itself was largely restricted and the entertainment industry had also been mostly destroyed.

Any kind of virtual entertainment, even the simplest DOS game, was totally and completely banned worldwide.  

Freedom of speech was a very controversial topic which the new generations were fighting strongly for, while social media and internet chatting were but a dream. Even emailing services were imposed a two-hours delay between sending and receiving, while also prohibited from creating emailing groups. Faxes were weirdly popular on great corporations and cellphones were used almost exclusively for making calls. On the bright side, SPAM mailing had decreased quite a bit.

In a certain sense, it was almost as if people were returning to the late eighties in terms of technology, but without console gaming. It was no surprise for glam rock to be on an all-time high again.

Space exploration was a hot topic for all kinds of geeks, and comic books were a good source of entertainment for the youth.

Videogames were a banished notion, while RPG games could only be played with imagination, nothing else.

GPS services were considerably better than in the eighties, since the tech was there, only not the availability of it to the masses, but nothing was perfect.

Squeam satellites had been thoroughly brought down and many of its high-tech industries and corporations had either been incorporated by the government or outright destroyed.

Still, remnant tech could be found here and there. The governments around the world obviously still made very good use of the internet and cybernetics potentials, so it was needed for people to be educated to create and develop technology for it.

This obviously meant that, occasionally, people who had been educated and knew how to build and operate informatic networks, programs and services would turn to the black market in order to make a profit.

VR Drugs were the most common type of product sold, but other things could be found as well - things like programs to access the military network, web chatting, dark web forums and so on.

Just like how drugs were a big taboo back before the legalization trend became a worldwide thing, all types of informatic dealings so became taboo on the earth of that year.

Christina walked resolute steps towards home.

She, as a daughter of two former Squeam Soldiers, had to constantly prove herself - so, even though she had a natural gift for informatics, in the end she chose to graduate as a mathematics major and went to become a math teacher.

It didn't really matter that her parents weren't "Squeam Soldiers" but, rather, regular squeam workers, unaware of what was happening and powerless to do anything about it.

It didn't matter that they had died back in the attack, without having done a single thing wrong. It didn't matter how her own family suffered for years without end while trying to make ends meet only to receive a pitiful compensation in the end - even though her parents' inheritance had been proved to be free of the "sin" of being the stipend of a "terror soldier", the government still denied to pay it properly.

Her grandmother had sued again and again, and every time the amount the government owned her family increased again and again - without meaning, since they would receive one or two twentieths of the amount and then have no money given to them for some stupid reason.

She was a "Squeam Soldiers'" child and her inheritance money was treated as something she had gained by relying on the blood of others. There were plenty of civil servants willing to make a scapegoat out of her and her entire family. Even on this country where she lived her whole life and which was built upon the former Squeam headquarters.

Her clothes were of good quality, but not superb. Her shoes had a healthy color to them, indicating that they weren't ones she has had to use for too long.

She lived a good lower-middle-class lifestyle.

Still, a calm fury roared inside her chest, while her outward appearance and actions were cowardly and submissive.

Her shoulders dropped, her head staring down. She was like a perpetually defeated captive, as innocent and sinless as she were.

The streets she walked through were busy ones near downtown. She couldn't afford to live on the suburbs, so a rented place in a not-so-good neighborhood where she could live with her husband and grandmother was enough.

As she strolled through the bars and pubs, different kinds of music could be heard, including some heavy-metal like ones. This kind of songs lifted her spirits and quenched her thirst a little bit.

Daring to look a little bit upwards, she finally arrived at an old, five-stories high, three apartments long building. The decoration on the front was old and moldy, whilst the rusted iron metal bars protecting the inner glass doors said a lot.

It was a good thing she managed to get home before noon.

Christina entered the two-bedrooms one-bathroom apartment and dispiritedly said.

- Finally! I'm starving! Go and make lunch already!

"I'm lucky to have him" - Was what, amongst other excuses, she always said to herself. It wasn't easy to find someone to date with her identity, after all.

Of course, she could try to look for others who were also sons and daughters of "Squeam Soldiers" but, most of the times, it just wasn't worth it.

It wasn't like places like the "Squeam Memorial and Pride Foundation" would be good for meeting sane people, and going around asking about peoples' past was a bit too difficult in order to start a good relationship with someone. Online dating services didn't exist at all, as the internet was restricted, and blind dating and this kind of things made her want to hang herself. "Better alone than surrounded by Neo-Squeamers" was one of her mottos.

Not to mention it was a governmental policy to separate the many "Squeam Families" from each other in order to avoid "unnecessary associations". Hell knew where she would find someone which could relate to her problems.

- Forget about it. Come over and give me a bl**j*b.

Christina's hands began to shake as she heard her husbands' command. She felt grossed out.

- Common, don't be like that. I just came home. Don't you want to eat something? I can make some meatballs or something. There are ribs in the fridge!

A man dressed in a white t-shirt while pantless, with his hairy half-hard thing tangling to the wind, came from one of the bedrooms.

The Hell4 console looked like a three-layered box while the Hell4PRO console looked like a four-layered box. That was why this generation of console earned the nickname 'real gaming console from hell' online – a metaphor for the third and fourth levels of hell. Someone with too much time on his hands even made an image of Hell18 console on Photoshop. That's right – it was eighteen layers stacked together.
The Hell4PRO console came with a complete set of equipment – HDMI cable, original power cable, original USB cable, a Hell Co. exclusive wireless Bluetooth controller, original combat headphones and an official manual.
Now that was the gaming console set that Ren Suo was familiar with.
But the circular gaming console – or perhaps it could be described as a black circular object – completely eluded Ren Suo's imagination.
He had not the faintest idea how this thing worked and what it did.
If Hell4PRO was four boxes stacked together, then the circular gaming console was at least made of more than a hundred discs stacked together.
There was no logo, no cables, no controller. Nothing.
Compared with the Hell4PRO, the circular gaming console was as understated as a super millionaire who loved to eat at the roadside grill stand. Even with his boyish sense of aesthetics, Ren Suo thought that the circular gaming console looked way cooler than the Hell4PRO.
Its glossy black exterior, like a shell of crystal, attracted his eyes. Even if Ren Suo decided that this thing was useless, he would put it at home as a display piece. At least it looked cool.
He fussed over it for a few minutes, but still did not find the start button on the circular gaming console. Disappointed, he put it aside and turned his attention to the Hell4PRO.

Ren Suo looked down at the Hell Co. controller on his hands, then at the cable-less circular gamign console, then back at the DaMi LED TV which had turned on by itself.
"Who can tell me how this Hell Co. controller connected itself to this gaming console, and how this console connected itself to the TV?"
Just then, the screen turned black and new information appeared on it:
[Wireless Bluetooth 'Hell4PRO Game Controller' detected. Automatic connection completed.]
[4K display equipment 'DaMi L55M5-AB' detected. Automatic connection completed.]
[Dear gamer, welcome to the Mini Worlds Gaming Console. Mini worlds of endless fun await.]
[First-time user detected. Please register a World Account.]
Then a rectangular box appeared. Ren Suo's interest was piqued. This Mini World Gaming Console was pretty impressive – it could connect itself to Hell Co.'s controller and the DaMi TV wirelessly. It looked like future tech. But how could a hardcore gamer like himself not have heard of this gaming console before?
This name. It sounded like it was developed by a local gaming manufacturer. But most of the consoles produced domestically were junk…
Could this be a sampler for a new model? Why would it be delivered here then?

Now it seemed that this gaming console was most likely domestically-produced. It used Xuanese completely – an advantage for those Xuan Nation players tortured by English and Japanese.
Picking a name was easy for Ren Suo.
He was quite skilled at creating a name. In order to identify how his information was leaked from his junk messages and junk mail, he would always choose to use the name of the company directly as his own name.
For example, when creating an account for Penguin Telecommunications, his account was Penguin_Ren. His gaming account for Nine Cities Games was Nine Cities_Ren. Simple and vulgar.
He had in fact decided on the name Hell-Ren for his gaming account. If he couldn't use Xuanese, he would use English.
But now this gaming console was not from Hell Co.. It was called 'Mini Worlds Gaming Console'.
He couldn't call himself World_Ren, could he?

Two large square options appeared on the screen: [World Store] [What should you best do now?]
Ren Suo picked [What should you best do now?], and a hint popped out:

Ming glowered at her four companions, her dual colored eyes shutting them up. How dare they wake her up just to have nothing new to say. The perverts spent more time fapping off the women of their cards than actually accomplishing her orders. She shot the approaching maid an icy stare that made the poor woman scurry off. You know it's my destiny to marry the cardholder of Amina. And have lots of babies. And he'll ravish me all over the city—And—"
 "Please don't go off on another one of your fantasy tangents, Ming," Tyrone said. "Last time, it took twenty minutes to convince the police that you weren't nuts."
Ming blushed. One eye glistened a red hue, the other blue—this always seemed to intensify her glares, unless the perverts were looking in other places.
 "And could you stop leaving your annoying BL novels in the clubroom," Peng said. 
 "Do not forget who's giving the orders here," Ming said, flinging her long black hair to the side. Her companions blushed. Even Tyrone's blush could be seen despite his dark brown skin. Ming smirked. She was beyond good enough for the legendary card holder. Her companions told him that his resonance felt new to the game, but that was fine. She'd be the perfect tutor. And maybe teach him everything he needed to know about the female body. 
Zack folded his arms. 
 "I never said anything about handsome—hell I don't know if it's a guy," he said in a whiny voice.
 "And here comes the emo whining," Han said.
 "Oh shut up, Han," Zack snapped. "I'm not the one who cried for days because his girlfriend, excuse me, ex-girlfriend beat him in a Non-real game then dumped him."
 "Ouch man, no need to be a dick," Tyrone said to Zack then turned to Han. "And don't you start with the emo jives. Let the guy enjoy his black."
 "Because he's so edgy," Peng said then laughed. "I don't even know what Zack found fascinating about that cold-hearted snow woman. She's got more ice than Sazuki."
Zack turned his head, blushing. 
 "Tone it down," Tyrone said, "because I'm not trying to be here all day."
Ming cleared her throat loudly.
 "Are you done?"
Her companions gulped and stared back at her. 
 "Good," Ming said. "Because if you don't find him, I'll just stop writing the Loli Saga and go look myself. And Tyrone, before you start, you read my other manga, Monster Girl Mania. I'll cancel the entire thing—you'll never know who kidnapped Haru."
Her companions said nothing, just looked nervous. "Good. We've been a team for a while now, killing it at Stone Tokken. There has always been talk about the return of the Forsaken Spellcaster deck and the Stone Tokken incarnate wielding it."
 "That's just a bunch of marketing myth bologna—I said that a year ago," Tyrone said, "until you showed me Real and Non-real games, and how to sense resonances. You also said you were one of these gifted—but those who knew how to access Real and Non-real games are the next best thing. At first, I thought you were some kind of witch. The others may not outright say it, but we're still a little scared of you." He chuckled.
Ming sighed.
 "Just do what I say and you'll be fine. And don't go around telling anyone I'm the author of those books. What would my true love think when that's the first thing he hears?"
She rose gracefully.
 "If you see my cousin Maki, tell her where Naomi lives. But go with her. I don't want her assaulting my friend. If we weren't cousins, she would've tried, not that I'm weak-willed like her previous victims."
 "Why is she doing this?" Peng said.
 "To be honest, I'd like to watch," Han said.
Ming fixed him with a glare.
 "I've only heard rumors and there's no evidence. I confronted her, but she wouldn't admit to anything. Maki's popular and is hated by a lot of jealous women. So, it's no surprise that a rumor like this would come about."
She turned to leave. "Get to work. I want his identity as soon as possible. On the double! Or I'll cancel it all. And you're free to duel him, but no real games. Just Non-real."
Her companions nodded then scurried off. Ming took note of Tyrone's muttering.
 "Cancel my favorite manga series. Damn, you're a slave driver. Can we ever get thanks?"
She laughed. On her way home, she read her favorite BL manga, flushed, and breathing deeply. 
Soon, she'd meet her future husband.

Clyde let out an icy breath after he hung up. So Hades, at last, wanted his blood. Fine, he's been a pain in the ass for the entire city, far too long. For Clyde, it's been two weeks. For everyone else, the Hades family ruled and dined on human lives for years. The real question is, where the fuck are the other gifted and why didn't they do anything about this? What the fuck?
Well, Harumi did once mention something about demon lords moving into cleared territory. Why didn't mankind fight back—nuke them? Anime logic? Or demons in the government. Probably both. One did own one of the largest pizza chains in the world. Another was an accountant. Anything's possible.  
Still, there had to be experienced gifted around here somewhere or military men. He should've written down the information of that level sixty ex-special forces guy Melody mind controlled a couple of weeks ago. 
Fuck it, there is no excuse for this. Was it safe to try and call all gifted? Of course, it wasn't. He'd bet a million dollars that there were "enemy" or twisted gifted out there too, some probably working with the demons. Some working against everything and everyone. Mankind in a nutshell, whether on Earth or in Satovia.
Melody offered her protection and said she'd stop by to help with his training in the morning. Sweet. She also wanted to talk with him about something private, whatever that meant. 
Clyde left his room to check on the others. Chika, Yuki, and Neko were finishing up their meals. They seemed to be having a heated conversation before silencing it upon Clyde's approach.
 "Nya," Neko jumped him, licking his face. He held his ground with a back leg. Falling over meant wasting more time. "What brings you out here?"
 "Just seeing how everyone's doing?" Clyde said. "Where's Toru?" That question was directed at Chika. 
 "I think he went outside to explore a bit," she said. "The attendant lady told him about a spot to lay down and enjoy the 'true pleasures' of the grasslands. I warned the idiot not to go anywhere near the forest. Something about it creeps me out."

Clyde almost selected no just to slap something back at the system, but he needed to make sure the man was good to go. Sure, he wasn't his mother, but in an area where demons came and go to dip into a hot spring, one had to be cautious. He warned the others about demon guests. Yuki blushed.
 "Sorry," she said. "I…I mean, it felt normal to me."
 "Don't worry about it, just make sure the men don't get adducted," Clyde said.
 "We're coming with you," Chika said. 
 "In your robes?" Clyde said, eyebrow raised. He noticed they were all sitting on towels too. Ah, nothing like the common ground of sanitation, he thought.  
 "I'll go put on the sweatpants," Chika said then stuck her tongue out. Before she left, she gave Neko a warning stare. Neko only smiled innocently and smothered more of her body over Clyde. The young man tried to pretend that he didn't notice the wetness. The catgirl was ready to go and apparently anywhere. Clyde quickly deescalated the situation before it could turn into a bloodbath. 
 "Go get changed," he said to Neko.
 "Nya-no can do," she said. "I'm an observer."
 "If you don't, I'll," he whispered the rest in her ear. "I'll deny every advance and give them to Chika."
Neko huffed.
 "That's not how you're supposed to treat a lady."
She reached into his pants with her tail and squeezed Clyde. Before the young man could protest, she violently stroked. 
Yuki barged between the two.
 "Neko, stop being childish."
 "I can't help it, it's the heat," she said, innocent look on her face. Yuki continued to stand in Clyde's defense. She was close enough to where his erection pressed into her ass. He forced down the beast inside and stepped back. Now wasn't the time nor place. Yuki ended up hustling the catgirl to her room. 
Chika returned with a fully dressed Kitome, though the blue-haired girl looked annoyed from being hustled out of her room. Was she napping? Nothing wrong with that, Clyde supposed.  She blushed for some reason upon making eye contact with the young man. 
 "Are you up for this?" he said to Kitome. She flinched as if not expecting him to speak with her. 
 "Of course, I am, idiot," Kitome said, mustering up her anger. It wasn't as feisty as normal, but a nice sign to know that she didn't lose her damn mind. 
When Neko and Yuki returned, they set off to search for Toru. They found him minutes later…in the air. Two women, similar to the honeybee Clyde once encountered, carried him off, laughing and yipping. Of course they were heading toward the forest. Of course.  
 "Son-of-a-bitch," Clyde snapped as he and the others chased. He analyzed one.

Jericho's long bony fingers gripped the door handle. The starving musician's overly slender frame shivered from the cold.
The house door opened.
"Brother! You are back!" A young cheerful voice called out. 
Jericho smiled at the freckled girl as she embraced him.  "I'm home, Moira. How was school today?"
The young black haired girl looked up. "It was okay…" She trailed off.
Jericho's face pursed with seriousness. "What happened?"
Moira frowned. "Nobody believed me when I told them your music is magical. They teased me a lot. They said that instead of making up stories about your music that I should play virtual reality games like them. But I think your music is better than games."
Jericho smiled sweetly at his kid sister. "As long as you believe it, I am happy. What they think will only affect how much money I can earn from sharing my gifts."
Moira's frown disappeared. "Before dinner can you play me another one of your songs?" She asked expectantly.
Jericho nodded. "Sure. Since today has been hard for both of us, let me play a piece I created before you were born." He rushed over to the piano, seeming to lose his fatigue.
"Which one?" Moira's brown eyes glistened with excitement.
The man stretched his fingers. "I call it The Serenade for the Soothing of the Soul. It actually requires 3 instruments for the full song but I will share with you the piano section. My few fans call it the Song of Healing."
A haunting, yet calming melody voiced itself from the old grand piano. The minor tone sent relaxing chills through the sibling's bodies. 
After the melody ended the two ate a meager meal in silence. 
Moira let out a sigh. "Brother, your music is so wonderful. Why don't others love it like we do?"
Jericho gave a sad laugh. "The instruments I use are considered relics of the past. These days, music is created electronically. Because my music is alive, it gets suppressed by the plentiful songs others make. My music is considered outdated. That is sadly the reality of our world."

The next morning, Jericho walked to work. The little antique shop's dusty atmosphere brought a small smile to his face. 
An ad rested on the counter for a new VRMMORPG "Freedom Online."
The slender musician pulled out some tools to repair a damaged violin acquired not too long ago. Jericho was very familiar with instruments. His great grandfather had taught him how to make and repair most major ones.
The morning was quiet as usual for the rundown business.
After finishing the adjustments of the violin, Jericho tuned it. Very quickly a melody formed. The vibrations of the strings escaped the confines of the store. 
An elegantly dressed woman stopped as she passed by. "What a beautiful song." She whispered.
"Boy! Stop making a racket and get back to work!" A grumpy middle aged man shouted.  
Jericho abruptly stopped playing the violin. "Yes boss." He replied reluctantly placing the newly repaired violin on the shelf to be sold.
The woman outside frowned. "Why did it stop?" She walked into the store.
The bell hanging beside the old shop's door rang.
The musician looked up. "Welcome to Grandpa Todd's antique shop." He replied in a very professional manner.
The model like woman looked around. "Where is the music playing device? It sounded so pure."
Jericho laughed inside. "This is an antique shop. With the exception of the register, everything in this place is old. We don't carry modern music playing devices."
"Then what was that music I was hearing before?" She inquired pursing her heavily lipstick covered lips.
"Oh that?" Jericho asked pretending he realized what the woman was referring to. 
He picked up the violin. "That song came from this beauty." He replied ignoring the makeup covered woman's charm. 
"What is that strange object? That doesn't look like it is connected to the network. How does it play songs?"
Jericho laughed. "This is an ancient relic known as a violin." He mildly exaggerated for dramatic effect. "By using this special stick and rubbing against the strings in very specific ways you can create music. The song you were hearing earlier is something I played using this device."
The woman looked wide eyed in shock. "Can you show me how it works?"
"Let me ask the boss."
"Sure."
Jericho turned his head to the stairs. "Hey Boss!" He shouted. "There is a client that wants to hear how the violin works."
A muffled grunt was heard in reply.
He smiled before turning back to the lady. "The song I am going to play is a song I wrote called  Moonlit Lullaby." He lifted the violin and started to play one of his many majestic songs. 
She listened and watched the man in awe. She felt relaxed as he played. Her light tears slightly smeared her mascara. 
He finished the song and placed the violin back on the shelf. 
She stared at the lanky man in shock. 
Jericho smiled. "Feel free to browse. I hope you can find something you like." He returned to his business mode to break the stunned silence. 
"How much?" She shook her head. "How much for the violin? I want to hear that song again!" She inquired.
"200 Credits."
She was shocked. "Such a wonderful music making device and it is so cheap?"
Jericho shook his head. "The instrument is only able to play music in the hands of someone who knows how to play it. It cannot make music on its own."
The woman looked mildly disappointed. "I see. I will buy it anyways. At a minimum I can remember the song when I look at it."
Jericho helped her with the transaction and packaging. 
The woman looked down at the flier on the counter. "Freedom Online has been out for a few days now. Do you play it?"
Jericho shook his head. "No, I couldn't afford it and I can't let my little sister go hungry." He replied casually.
"Oh."
The woman left with the violin. 
"I hope you take care of her." He sighed; unaware he obtained a new fan.
The boss came down. "Jerry, I am sorry to tell you, I am going to have to close up shop. I can no longer afford this place. I will send you your last paycheck later. I hope you can find a new job soon."
Jericho was startled. Losing a job was not a surprise he was hoping for. He went home dejected.
The woman tapped her watch. A translucent screen hovered above it. "Search for the song Moonlit Lullaby." She spoke into the watch. 
After browsing through a few songs she found a recording by an artist named Jericho Maestro. She hit the play button and listened to the song again. "Such beautiful music hidden away like an oyster's pearl." She poetically replied. 

The next day, Moira danced to the jaunty tunes played by her brother. Today was her 12th birthday and due to their financial hardships; Jericho gave her the only thing he could. A night filled with whatever musical pieces she wanted. He even played the ones he didn't like.
A knock at the door ended the festivities.
The freckled girl sulked. She stomped to the door before opening it. 
Two men dressed like movers stood on the porch. "Excuse me, miss. Is Jericho Maestro home?"
Jericho walked up to the door. "What can I do you for, gentlemen?" Being called his artist name was uncommon but not unheard of.
"We came to deliver a couple of packages and a letter."
The man frowned. "We aren't expecting anything." He replied.
"We understand. The sender may not have informed you they were sending you these items. The game cabins and the installation fees have already been paid for. Will you please allow us to finish our job and install them for you?"
"Sure." Jericho opened the door wider. "Let's let the men do their work Moira. What song would you like me to play next?"

The delivery men brought in two large gaming cabins and hooked them up as per their instructions. They passed the letter over to the man at the piano and left.
Jericho opened the letter. 

Sir Maestro,
We have delivered to you two gaming cabins; one for you and one for your sister. Both pods contain the game Freedom Online. We have paid for the subscription and operating fees. We sincerely hope you both can enjoy the game free of charge.
It has come to our attention that you possess great skill with the ancient art of instrument playing. As you may have heard, Freedom online has a high degree of character freedom. There are no set ways to play. We believe that if you were to place your musical talents into the gaming world, your songs will become better known and you can enjoy a play style that is all your own. 
All of us here at Free Corp have made an initial investment into your future. Thank you for selling copies of your music for us to listen to. We hope your music career succeeds. 
We have already set up the game cabins to be in-game friends automatically with each other.
Our game has an anti-harassment program installed. As people's minds are within the game world, like all VR games, desires and intention are easily picked up. You do not have to worry about your sister's safety in our game.

The letter explained the operation of the game pods, basic tips and tricks for the game, and more. 
He checked his bank account. Hundreds of his albums had sold last night. His stress over losing his job lessened. At least they would have funds for a time.
Jericho laughed aloud. "Happy Birthday Moira! We both got free versions of that new game your friends were telling you about."
Moira frowned. "But what about your music?"
Jericho released a light smile. "According to the gaming company, my music will be just as magical in that world as it is in this world."
Moira smiled. "Then, you become the music master and I will protect you!"
The brother's laughter continued. "I want you to have fun too. Play how you want to play."
"Right!" The 12 year old beamed. "Then I will be the dancing princess!"

In the year 2741 Music has become a thing created solely via technology. The age of instruments had long since passed. 
Jericho grew up in a family who lived ‘outdated’ lives. From his grandfather, he learned how make, repair, and play a good amount of instruments. It was his life passion. If he lived in the early 2000s he would have become famous with the skill he possessed. 
The man worked hard on both his job at an antique shop and his failing musical career to take care of kid sister, the only family member he had left. 
Freedom online (A very generic MMO type of name) had recently been released. One of the many VRMMORPG’s created in this era. Jericho and his sister ignored the game as it was something well beyond what they could afford. 
After unknowingly experiencing both a disaster and a fortuitous encounter, Jericho and his sister are given the game with the hope this new world can bring his wonderful music to light.
