Xander POV
"I am going to really strangle you if you are wrong" my best friend and accomplice whispered looking at me.
"Scratch that, even if you are right, I will" he is now using his serious voice. And who could blame him but this is the last chance I have to have a new career in this small town.
"You do know they could hear whispers too," I say to my overly anxious friend, keeping my finger over his lips.
"Dude What the fuck!!!" he let out a horrified scream, " This is not the time for you to turn gay and take advantage" again as I may say overacting. But even my many attempts do nothing to my friend.
"You are supposed to put your hand over my mouth to silence me, not your perverted finger over my lips" he looks at me with mock horror.
"And that would have been much nicer? My hand over your mouth, Like I don't know that you would lick it and make me take it back anyway" I say back
"Now how are you sure that I wouldn't suck your finger now" He follows his action with his words. And this time it is my turn to be shocked as I fell on the floor backward trying to get away from him.
"Damm" I almost whisper scream.
I pick myself up, cleaning my finger as I do, and get back at my position.
"That was disgusting Sam, even for you" I bend again with now more distance between him and me.
"So what you mean is that you don't like me now?" he questions me.
"I didn't say that… I mean…. Wait, what?, when did I say that I like you?" I turn towards him.
"You didn't but you always take so good care of me that I assumed,"  he says with a mock blush on his face.
"Okay before my ears start to bleed. TAKE. THAT BACK".  I say in mock disgust emphasizing each word.
"You don't mean that Xander, say you don't mean it" I am smiling to myself, I know what he is doing, he is trying to make me relax, since he knows I am scared, well we both are.
Being a Vampire Hunter in his first case is Never easy. Yeah a Vampire Hunter, that's what I chose as a new career since this small town doesn't offer much than those horror stories of vampires, sucking the blood of anyone or everyone. To the horror of the people and to our pleasure, this job might bring a lot of Money I believe since I have already been paid in advance to capture this one. (Okay it's a cheque but whatever).
This is why we are at present at a Manor which as per the talks of the town folks is being haunted by a vampire.
They say they hear weird noises coming out of here, mostly of someone screaming. I have to believe in their words here.
"So what we have to do once we get him," Sam asks
"Well we would be delivering him to the town folks I guess," I say not aware of anything I am saying now.
To my side, my Best friend is laughing hysterically. " You said it like you are an online Shopping site, Deliver"
"Damm that witchywhich.com site, I used last night to get some vampire hunting tools online" I respond back
"You brought these things online huh matey," he says it like he finds it funny.
"So what do we get if any item is defective? A place in Heaven? Since we won't be making it back for replacing and returning service" he continues.
I know he thinks it's funny but it is scary too,  in case my dear stupid best friend is right.

For centuries I have lived in hiding, looking for answers. It was quite difficult since I hated the human species, they are weak, they cry all the time but still they would have made  great slaves.
There is a particular human I hate more than anyone else, a girl, who would mess things more than anyone else could, but then why, why does her face haunts me in my dreams?

I am awkward, I am clumsy and there hasn't been anyone who haven't me told to be careful. But still I love my life, with my friends, my colleagues and my grandma.
Good things don't last long, do they? Not when suddenly your world turns around, all because of a Jaw Dropping, Handsome Asshole, for whom I am as good as invisible.
My Name is Hazel and this is my story.

"Chen Ge, are you sure you want to go to Xin Hai?" Uncle Xu was still worried.
"Director Luo once told me that we need to look at the big picture. This trip to Xin Hai has two purposes—give Nightmare Academy a warning and get a better understanding of the market," Chen Ge said seriously. "It'll be fine, don't worry."
Opening the gate, Chen Ge and Zhang Jingjiu entered the Haunted House.
"Wait for me here. I need to go to the underground scenario to grab something." Chen Ge placed most of the employees back into their places and only held onto a few that he still could not control fully like the red high heels, the headless woman, and Qiumei. He was not doing that to take revenge on Nightmare Academy—he was merely worried that these Red Specters might cause trouble at his Haunted House once he left.
For the sake of balance, Chen Ge brought along Yan Danian's group and Xu Yin.
"The hammer is definitely not going through the security check, so I'll leave it here." After removing the hammer, the backpack felt so light that Chen Ge needed some time to get used to it. Returning to the surface, Chen Ge and Zhang Jingjiu waited for the other workers to arrive, and Chen Ge helped them with their make-up before leaving.
At 11 am, Chen Ge and Zhang Jingjiu took the train heading to Xin Hai City. The two cities were adjacent to each other, but the temperature had a drastic change. Xin Hai's average temperature was higher than that of Jiujiang for reasons that eluded Chen Ge.
"Jingjiu, you have to go visit your father." Chen Ge shoved a red packet to Zhang Jingjiu. "Use this to buy some things for him. I won't accompany you any further. Call me if you need anything."
Before Zhang Jingjiu could reject him, Chen Ge grabbed his backpack and ran out of the train station. Chen Ge hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address for Nightmare Academy that he had found online.
Unlike Chen Ge's Haunted House, Nightmare Academy was situated on Xin Hai's busiest merchant street. As the oldest and most famous Haunted House in Xin Hai, they rented an entire building.
Coincidentally enough, when the contractor was designing the merchant street, there was a small oversight. One of the smaller buildings was surrounded by other skyscrapers, creating this situation where it would never receive any sunlight no matter the time of day. Many people refused to rent this building, which always 'faced away from the sun'. In the end, it had been selected by the founder of Nightmare Academy. He had used a very low price to rent the side of the building that could not receive any sunlight and transformed it into the biggest Haunted House in Xin Hai.
The side of the building that occasionally received some sunlight had many restaurants and shops, whereas the other side had windows that were always closed. One Yin and one Yang, this eventually became a landmark for Xin Hai City and had great popularity online.
But that was several years ago. The popularity of physical Haunted Houses was dropping, and fewer and fewer people came to visit Nightmare Academy. They tried to come up with new updates, but it did nothing to stop the popularity from slipping.
After paying the fare, Chen Ge stood at the entrance of the merchant street. There were many vehicles, and the buildings rose into the sky. Even though it was a working day, the place was packed.
"Do these people not need to work?" Carrying his tattered backpack, Chen Ge, who could not have looked more normal, stood out conspicuously on the largest merchant street in the big city. However, Chen Ge did not mind that. Compared to appearance, he paid more attention to a being's soul.
Following the map on his phone, Chen Ge soon found Nightmare Academy. Situated at a secluded corner of the merchant street, the size of the crowd there diminished tremendously.
Before he got near, Chen Ge saw a worker standing at the entrance, yelling loudly on the speaker.
"A 4D Haunted House experience! Experience the greatest horror in your life! A world-standard Haunted House—Nightmare Academy—starting a new semester with screams!
"The experience at Nightmare Academy combines the element of Haunted Houses, escape rooms, exploration, and real life interaction! It is a new indoor theme park! Only by sharpening your intelligence, courage, and physical ability will you be able to survive!
"Be it in terms of design, props, scenarios, and make-up, we are much better than all other Haunted Houses on the market!"
The worker yelled at the top of his lungs, but there were few visitors who were interested. Even if an occasional person stopped, it was due to curiosity, and they would leave seconds later.
"Sir, would you like to come and challenge our Haunted House?" The worker had noticed Chen Ge a long time ago. He saw Chen Ge standing there for a long time, but seeing the old-fashioned way that Chen Ge was dressed, he did not rush forward to welcome him. He did not think that Chen Ge would be a potential customer.
"Is your Haunted House really scary?" Chen Ge was curious. Even though their morality left much to be desired, Nightmare Academy had to have something going for them, or else they would not have ended up as the biggest Haunted House in Xin Hai City.
"You won't believe me even if I say it is scary—the best way is for you to find out yourself." The worker tried his sales pitch, but probably afraid that Chen Ge might just leave, he quickly added, "I will only say that a world-standard Haunted House is not for jokes. Our Haunted House has maintained a thirty-three percent surrender rate and ten percent completion rate. There is a record of a visitor lining up for three hours but giving up in less than three minutes."
"Only ten percent completion rate?"
"Indeed, I'm not lying to you. The horror inside our Nightmare Academy is not simple scares but an exploration of the unknown inside the human heart," the worker said haughtily. "So, what do you think? Would you like to come and experience it? Since it's a working day, there's a promotion. Normally, the ticket costs two hundred RMB, but now it will only cost you one hundred and eighty."
"That expensive?" Chen Ge could not help but draw a comparison. For his Haunted House, the visitors had to buy the ticket to enter theme park first, but Nightmare Academy was only the visit to a Haunted House. In the future, when I expand to Xin Hai, I should raise the ticket price, following the local custom.
Chen Ge was still thinking, but the worker was getting impatient. "The value is equivalent to the price. Our Haunted House will definitely provide you with the best experience."
"Alright then, give me one ticket." Chen Ge entered the Haunted House. The interior design was atmospheric. The ticket selling lobby was decorated as a place for new students to register, and the elevator that led into the scenario was decorated as a school gate. There were various pictures and posters related to ghost stories pasted on the wall.
Before entering the actual scenario, the atmosphere was already there—this Nightmare Academy was not simple.
When Chen Ge entered the place, there were two other visitors inside the room, and they appeared to have been waiting for a long time.
"I'm sorry, the minimum number for a single visit is five people. Would you please wait a little while longer?" The female employee inside the ticket booth waved at Chen Ge. "Why don't you register your name first? When we have enough people, we will start the tour immediately."
"Okay." Chen Ge took out his ID and walked to the ticket booth.
The employee inside the booth had her head lowered, but when she saw Chen Ge's ID, she suddenly looked up.
"Chen Ge?"


The hearse with the weird odor slowed to a stop before the entrance. The sound of pebbles could be heard bouncing on the ceiling. There were footsteps coming from the corridor, and there seemed to be someone sawing next door. The door knob to the room rattled slightly, and the faucet in the bathroom kept dripping even though it had been screwed shut. There was a rubber ball that rolled on its own underneath the bed. Wet footsteps started to surface one after another on the floor. 
At 3 am, Chen Ge held a cleaver in his hand as he hid beside the room heater. The call he was trying to make was finally answered. "Landlord, is this what you meant by 'the house can be a little crowded at night'‽"

All the filming equipment had been arranged accordingly at Yuan Zhou's place. The arrangement had been finished the day before and since Yuan Zhou had been sick, the restaurant wasn't opened and thus the arrangement remained undisturbed.
The only thing left to coordinate were the celebrities. In truth, Roll, Dear Beef was an outdoor reality show. As for whether it was funny or not, a show of this nature would usually be comedic in nature.
The main guest celebrities were Li He, Bai Guo, and Jiang Meisi. Famous celebrities would be invited to each episode of this show, and of course, actors and actresses were not the only ones that would be invited. For example, a boxing champion and a famous businessman had been invited to this show before. 
Li He was around 40 years old and was a skilled actor. Two years ago, he got popular thanks to a movie. He had an entertaining personality as well and was the current captain of the show.
As for Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi, they were around 20 years old. The former was handsome while the latter was delicate looking. In short, they were idols. The two were extremely famous, and were the main source of views for the show.
"Bai Guo, any insider information for this episode?" Bai Guo asked.
"I heard from the crew that the guest invited by the producers is very famous internationally and had received an extremely favorable rating in France. He also won a prize before," Li He said.
While in the car, the cameraman started rolling the camera. And thus, Li He and Bai Guo started conversing, signifying the official start of filming. 
"A favorable rating in France? And won a prize before?" Jiang Meisi started her career as an actress. And thus, the first thought on her mind was, "Was it a prize at the France's Cames Film Festival?"
"Best actor at Cames Film Festival?" Bai Guo continued, "That's not possible, right? Even if he was really a big deal during the Cames Film Festival, people of such popularity would normally not join variety shows." What Bai Guo kept to himself was the award winners at these film festivals had incredibly high status. Were the producers really willing to fork out the money to invite someone like this?
"What are you thinking about? The guest this time is not from the entertainment industry," Li He stopped their imagination and said, "One of the scriptwriters told me that the guest this time is a chef."
Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi immediately understood when they heard that it was a chef.
Michelin Guide that was world-famous originated from France. Apart from that, there were also numerous cooking competitions held in France. For example, the most famous dessert competition was held in France.
And thus, Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi concluded that the guest this time would probably be an extremely popular chef.
Bai Guo lost his interest when he heard that the guest was a chef. As for Jiang Meisi, her interest was piqued and she started searching online for a chef that fit the description. After all, she was quite a foodie herself.
"Rather than being curious about the guest, you might as well be curious about the location. Our filming location this time is very unique," Li He said. "When I went to the station earlier, the director told me that the filming location is very unique and we have to be mentally prepared for it."
"Mentally prepared? What do you mean, Boss Li? Don't scare me," Bai Guo stared at Li He as he asked. He had already suffered once in the past.
Jiang Meisi stopped searching online as well. She raised her head and stared at Li He. His words were truly too scary.
As a long term guest of Roll, Dear Beef, they started recollecting their previous tragic experience.
Jiang Meisi was a woman that was incredibly scared of mosquitoes and houseflies. But one time, they went to a remote town for filming. During filming, she was essentially a feast for the mosquitoes. As for Bai Guo, from his expression, one could imagine how tragic his experience had been.
"I don't think they are lying to me," Li He was unclear of what the producers were trying to do. Therefore, he told them everything he knew, "I think it's a tiny restaurant known as the Master Chef Restaurant and the boss of that restaurant is called Yuan Zhou." Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi had never heard of this name, but they both were of the opinion that Master Chef Restaurant was quite an arrogant name to have. 
Nonetheless, Jiang Meisi was a foodie. Therefore, the name Yuan Zhou sounded slightly familiar to her. She decided to do her research first.
In truth, most customers called the restaurant Yuan Zhou's restaurant because Yuan Zhou did not have a signboard. Because of this, things got messy during the landmark restaurant voting incident. 
And thus, when the two searched the term Master Chef Restaurant online, they found nothing. But when they entered Yuan Zhou on the search bar, a huge amount of information appeared.
Numerous articles such as delicacies were the best pleasure in life, the hope of China's chefs and so on appeared. Even the recent master of cooked wheaten foods promotional video was found. 
"This restaurant seems really popular," Bai Guo muttered.
When Jiang Meisi scrolled down, she discovered that even as a foodie, she had still missed out on a restaurant this popular.
Of course, after their research, the same question appeared on both their minds. Why would the producers tell them to be mentally prepared?
Suddenly, Jiang Meisi saw something at a certain discussion forum: Exposed! The unknown affair of Yuan Zhou's restaurant!
"There's an inside story!" Jiang Meisi and Bai Guo huddled together.

Further down, the topic shifted from the ten cancers. A list of those who had contributed to Yuan Zhou's restaurant appeared.

[Main contribution: She was the one who had discovered that one could order one Egg Fried Rice and one Egg Fried Rice Set Meal. Again, there was no information of substance. Bai Guo lost his interest. He had no clue what the article was referring to when it touched on the Egg Fried Rice.
"It's just a restaurant. I doubt there would be anything too terrible," Jiang Meisi said after she switched off her phone.
Earlier, while the two were busy scrolling on the phone, the producers had already handed Li He the first mission.
"Let's take a look at the first mission," Li He opened the envelope. When Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi shifted their attention back to him, he started reading the instructions in the envelope, "First mission: To successfully eat lunch in Master Chef Restaurant."
Eat lunch?
Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi blanked out. What mission was that? It was way too easy.
Li He gave a logical analysis, "The producers will never give us a simple mission. It is already 12 pm. Perhaps the restaurant has very good business?"
Even with that thought, Bai Guo and Jiang Meisi still couldn't understand. Even if the business was very good, it was only 12 pm. They would reach in about 10 minutes. They would arrive before 12.30 pm. It wouldn't be hard for them to grab lunch.
After discussion, the three concluded that perhaps the producers were deciding to be kind today and had thus given them an easy mission.
Jiang Meisi was quite happy. In a while, she would get to eat something nice and famous.
Was there anything happier than filming a show and completing a simple mission while enjoying good food?
No, there wasn't.
"By the way, is the guest waiting for us in the restaurant?" Bai Guo asked.

Even so, there are still a long line of people queuing up and waiting for a taste. Reservations are not accepted there, only waiting and queuing personally is allowed. 
“Numerous people fly there on their private planes just to queue up. Furthermore, parking bays and parking spots are not provided there. The service is terrible here. Customers have to clear the tableware themselves and wipe the table as well. For god’s sake, the boss is literally crazy.”

"She cancelled again! That's the third time." Nashe said in despair.
"I'm not surprised you know. When you run a club that warns humans not to enter or else they'll be eaten, well what do you expect?" Erasmus said before he gulped down another pint of Dolphin blood.
"Yes well she should know by now that only applies to potential patrons. Honestly I couldn't make it any clearer that the musical guests are always welcome here. So many of the greats have played here for gods sake, what's she worried about.
"Well maybe she's just not at the stage of her career where she feels she's famous enough to play a Monster club without getting eaten? Or maybe it was the fact that you had to assure her that no one would eat her that keeps putting her off, we'll probably never know."
"Well you know what that means. I'll have to try and book a Demon act. At this late stage I probably won't get a human one. You can always get Demons at short notice. God Demon entertainers are so boring and crass." Nashe huffed as he pulled out his little black book of contacts.
"I agree" Erasmus said not caring at some of the Demons at the bar taking offence.
"I find it baffling considering so many Demons like Vampires were once people. You'd think they'd retain a bit of that creativity."
"I also get fed up of their whining 'oh if it wasn't for the fact that Demons existence has to be covered up I'd be the new Jim Hendrix, Amy Winehouse or Van Gogh' I just want to tell every one of the whiney fuckers 'no you grotesque abomination, you're shit no matter what. If anything being a Demon is a plus as most people won't tell you you're crap out of fear of getting their heads torn off!" Nashe moaned, only to be met by scowls from a number of his Demon patrons.
"Eh no offence."
"They'll act all proud" Erasmus laughed, "but I bet their collections are just filled with albums by human singers and films by humans."
"Well I do quite like Billie Holiday" The Vandal said. "She had so much soul." He joked, with all of the Demons at the bar except Erasmus laughing. 
"Well anyway" Erasmus said wanting to take attention away from the Vandal. "It's probably not the best idea to insult Demons all the time when you run a bar for them. Then again I'm not sure who you could cater too? You hate Demons, you hate humans? Maybe pixies, though I hear they can be very stuck up."
"Yes well Werewolves don't tend to be too popular do we." Nashe said bitterly.

"True but I'm a Vampire and we're even less popular, yet I'm beloved by everybody here." Erasmus said as the Demons, especially the Vandal all rolled their eyes, or what passed for eyes and grunted.
Nashe didn't even bother to reply, as he had managed to contact Abaddon through a skull with red glowing eyes (in actual fact the skull of one of Abaddon's previous victims.)
Nashe had never killed anyone. He had always tried to control his lycanthropy (at least as far as his patrons and friends such as Erasmus knew.)
The skull had been a gift from one of his friends, but he always felt sick using it. Still Abaddon was one of the few Demon singers whose work Nashe actually appreciated and was always reliable.
After Nashe performed a chant, the skull lit up in flames.
"Abbadon, hi sorry to bother you at this hour but."
The skull started to speak in Abaddon's voice.
"Werewolf, your kind sickens me. I am about bring about an age of darkness the likes of which your world has never seen. Fire will fall from the sky, blood shall flow though the streets" As Abaddon ranted, Erasmus mouthed her threats to himself. "Your oceans shall turn into slime, men and women shall become beasts who will devour their own children!"
"Yes well if that doesn't work out for you, I need an act to fill the slot on Saturday night. We have quite a number of important guests coming."
"Did you not hear me! I said the age of Demons has begun, this world will tremble before us!"
"Yes well like I said if you have time, or you have a change of heart, can you do the Saturday slot at 7:pm? I'd love for you to play, "The Apocalypse is a Losing Game."
"Oh why thank you." She said in a softer tone." You know that was one of my most personal songs. It was based on a true story."
"I think a lot of people here will find it relatable."
"Okay puny Demon hybrid if this world does not fall before my infernal might I shall see you there. Can you make sure you have giant Otter hearts? I know they're rare, but god are they just so succulent."
"I'll see what I can do, we just got in a new batch of Dolphin blood for the Vamps, but I suppose I could let you have some as you are a guest of honour."
"Thank you, I love Dolphins! I mean they shall be among the first species to burn when this world falls before our might. I'll see you Saturday."
"That was quite eh, worrying." One of the patrons next to Erasmus said.
"What do you mean? I just booked an act. You know Abaddon calls me a dirty Werewolf, but I think she might have a little thing for me. Look at how quickly she accepted my offer. I wonder if dirty has a double meaning. " Nashe said enthusiastically,
Erasmus spat out his blood in response whilst the rest of the Demons burst out laughing.
"You're not serious. Please tell me you're joking. She keeps human heads as pencil holders, and as toilets. Or so I'm told." Erasmus said in disbelief.

"Oh please those are just tall tales. I hope. I can't imagine a human head would be very practical as a toilet." Nashe replied

"Yes I thought that too, but with Demons you never know."
"I was talking about the appocalypse she was planning on bringing about." The patron interrupted.

There was a silence before all the other patrons at the bar burst out laughing, or at least their equivilent of laughing.
"I take it your new here." Erasmus said.
"She's always trying to bring down the appocalypse or claiming she is. I reckon she just got a bad review on Askirolios"
"Askiro what?" The patron asked to Erasmus confusion.
"You've never heard of the Askirolios search engine? Dear god man how do you keep in touch with everything that's happening in the supernatural world?"
"I don't use social media much these days." He said nervously.
"Big mistake. You'll never know what's going on, local gatherings, news about the neverending war between Demons and humans, when the next concerts, or Demon films are out? How do you live man?"
"Well I don't go out too much." The patron said as he moved away from the bar.
At the nearby table were several Vandals sitting over glass filled with what looked like green energy.
"You okay pal." One of the larger Vandals said as it slowly unsheathed the claws on its hands.
"No no, I'm fine." The patron headed to the dance floor where there were all kinds of creatures, Vampires, Werewolves, Vandals, Demons, Ghouls and everything in between dancing together, though the Vampires and the Vandals were naturally still keeping their distance somewhat compared to the other creatures.
The patron stared in fascination at all of these strange creatures for a few minutes before he felt a hand slam down on his shoulder.
"Are you alright friend?" It was Erasmus.
"You haven't touched your cow blood. Here let me get you a glass of Dolphin blood."
"No, no that's quite alright."
"Please it'll be my treat. Dolphin blood is so much nicer, though I prefer blue whale blood personally, Nashe hasn't brought that in in a while because of a lot of animal rights activists. Whiners, you'd think they'd be happy that we don't eat humans at this bar."
Erasmus could see the patron wince at the grissly conversation.
"No, no I'm fine."
"I think we need to talk." Erasmus said.
"I don't know why I don't."
"Trust me it would be better if I spoke to you." Erasmus said as he looked back at some of the Vandals who were looking at the patron in a very threatening way.
"Okay but I should warn you I'm not just any old Vampire, I'm."
Erasmus brought the obviously human patron to a small table.
"What are you doing?" The Vampire asked very quietly?
"What I'm a Vampire just like you?"
"What breed?"
"What? Breed, there is more than one type of Vampire? I mean I'm a, a."
"An idiot whose going to get eaten or turned if he doesn't watch out?"
After a few seconds the human wisely dropped the pretense and was honest with the Vampire.
"Okay you got me. I'm a horror author. My name is David Pratt."
"Pratt"
"Yes I was going to change it after I got published."
"Ah I think I see where this is going."
"I have had a few stories published online and in some sites, but well so far I've not really made a name for myself."
"And you were hoping to get some inspiration from visiting this town?"
"Yes. I'd heard stories that this town of Wyndam, was a hotspot of paranormal activity."
"It is. Has been since the days of the British Empire. It's about the only place where Vandals and Vampires can share a drink."
"Yes well when I heard it was that I hoped I could maybe get some inspiration for some stories, but I found not a lot of people were willing to talk about it and I couldn't find anything online."
"No you won't, other than vague urban stories, most of which are bastarized. All real stories on the internet about Demons, Vampires, the Supernatural automatically goes on the search engine, Askirolios thanks to a spell. It's how we cover our tracks in the modern age of smart phones and social media. You can only access if you are a Demon or use a very specific spell. It's kind of like a Demonic google. You'll find news articles about what's happening in the Demon world, a video service like Youtube exclusively for Demons, sites where you can buy Demon artifacts, even dating sites, everything."
"Fascinating."
"Not really. Like I said to Nashe, Demon entertainment is really boring, or disgusting. Some of the things on the Demon video sites will make you vomit."
"Well you could say the same thing about the human internet. I've always had an interest in the paranormal. I didn't just come here for inspiration you know. I wanted to learn about what's really out there. There is another world that exists under our own. It's incredible."
"No it isn't. It's horrible, nasty and disgusting. Just like the world you already live in. Trust me you have enough to worry about in that world, without Vampires, Demons and Werewolves."
"Well it can't hurt to know just to keep safe."
"I suppose, but then again I'd hardly call wandering into a bar filled with monsters keeping safe."
"From what I'd heard this was a place for reformed monsters?"
"If that's the case why did you bother pretending to be one of us."
"I thought this was just an exclusive club for supernatural creatures. Seemed like a good place to learn your history. Like that monster geneology chart at the back for instance. Just what is a Shaddy."
Erasmus rolled his eyes.
"First of all this isn't just a place for supernaturals. It's non humans. We have aliens in here too you know, though they have their own search engine separate from Demons, whilst Witches and Warlocks also have their own. Fortunately I know the password, spell for all three, but still. Look at that guy dancing with the Vandal in the black dress up there. He's from the Andromeda galaxy over 2 million light years away."
"Seems an awful long distance to travel just to get a pint."
Erasmus wasn't amused.
"He's here because his people were slaughtered in an intergalactic war. He and the few other surviving members of his kind have helped build up and defend our planet in ways you can't imagine. There's actually a network of aliens living in secret on earth who meet up here every few months. There they are at that table, up at the back. This is a place for all the creatures who are shunned by humanity to gather and relax. In all fairness some of us are shunned because we you know, eat people. Still naturally we don't let humans in, unless we know we can trust them."
"So you're scared of us? That's ironic."
"Well not you. We did used to let humans in here. Originally this was a club for everyone, but sadly over the years, hunters started to attack the place and many good monsters were slaughtered. Also not all of the monsters who come here are reformed. We try to make sure they are, no human blood or organs are served, just animal. Everything from Dolphin to Alligator, to Rhino, but no humans. Sadly however that doesn't mean we still don't get a lot of human killers in here. For instance look at the Vampires. I'm probably the only Vampire in this city that doesn't feed on people. The Vandals aren't much better, neither are the Ghouls. Most of the Demons we get in here are not a bad lot, well not an evil lot at least. It's easier to keep the peace all around however if we're not fighting over food which a human would be.
Erasmus stopped to take a drink of his Dolphin blood much to David's disgust.
"God that really is brilliant. I find the more intelligent the animal, the more delicious its blood tastes. I probably shouldn't be thanking god mind you, but still. Your little disguise won't have fooled anyone. Vampires and Vandals for one can sense one another. I reckon that those who noticed you will be waiting to jump you outside, either to eat you, or torture you for information if there are any hunters planning an attack, or just for the fun of it, or all of the above."
"You're not serious are you."
Erasmus didn't say anything. He didn't have to as David noticed one of the Vandals at the table still looking at him.
"Don't worry about it though. I'll help you. I'm not so popular around these parts myself. I've helped close down several Demonic and Vampiric operations. They see me as a traitor and I am, but a traitor isn't always a bad thing. For instance would you think being a traitor to the Nazi party was a bad thing?"
"Why are you a traitor though? I mean I'm sure I'll appreciate it tonight, if what you're saying is true, but."
"It's a long story, and not one that I want to see in print so lets just leave it at that. You don't have any reason to trust me, but I think you can see that Vandal has an interest in you, and I'm your best bet of getting out of her in one piece. You got that."

"Yes I understand, but if you'll just tell me the spell to unlock that eh Demon web browser."
"No after tonight you steer clear of the supernatural."
"The only reason I moved here in the first place was to learn more about the supernatural."
"It's not my fault you made a stupid decision. I my 200 or so years on this planet I've know two kinds of people who know about the Supernatural. People who go on to be great heroes, battling the forces of darkness and saving the world, and idiots who get themselves killed because they don't know when to pull back. I don't know you, but the fact that you'd already come here when you don't even know there are different types of Vampires tells me you're the latter."
The Demons at the bar were getting restless. They had clearly also rumbled David's not so clever little ruse.

"Come on, I can't stop you getting killed another night, but I can get you out here now" Erasmus said as he dragged David away.

In addition to its anime, comics and games culture, Japan was also world-renowned for the paranormal; haunted cities, creepy forests, all sorts of urban legends and incredible stories. The Japanese were a society that worshipped ghosts.
Holding an annual National Ghost Summit, groups from all over the country would put on live performances under the theme of "local ghost stories" in a nationally-ranked competition. Such activities preserved Japan's ghost culture throughout the years.
Even for an island that regarded the hills and seas as being ruled by other-worldly beings, the survival of the paranormal culture to this day is nothing short of intriguing.
Although rational scientific thought would advocate for doing away with supernatural belief, in the eyes of the Japanese, ghosts, and spirits were just as tangible and real as the Earth and stars themselves.
Japan's reputation for its horror culture peaked as the movie, Ring, terrified audiences across the globe. However, the paranormal was not bound to merely a movie category. As long as ghosts and spirits remained close to humans, hearsay and folklore would keep the notion of the dead, alive.
Kimura Kazuki believed that many paranormal stories were created from the figment of human imagination and experience, seemingly ghostly, but not. Yet, not all accounts were made up blindly. Some of them were real. So then the question was, how can the existence of the paranormal be proven?
Kazuki did not know.
Naturally, he turned to the most straightforward answer- the internet.
However, Kazuki quickly realized that there was too much information on ghosts online. Most were fake; written to create an air of suspenseful horror. Other than that, the supposed "truth" was only fabricated as promotional gimmicks by those with influence.
Kazuki skimmed past and ignored the locations of Japan's sacred suicide grounds. As those who commit suicide had no intention to cling onto life, they are assumed to have no fixation.
Without fixation, there could not be any triggering of Worldly Reiki- leading to no formation of ghosts. As such, the common belief of suicide supposedly leading to the creation of ghosts is false.
Before the recuperation of Reiki, there are two types of ghosts.
Evil ghosts and benign or good ghosts.
Evil ghosts are said to be culminations of large amounts of hatred toward certain people or things before their death. While good spirits were characterized by their unwillingness to leave this world due to a deep fixation on certain people or things.
It was no secret that Kazuki was more willing to meet the latter. Even if good ghosts were not necessarily 'good,' they were, at the very least, able to communicate with humans clearly, allowing him to understand their requests fully.
However, what bothered Kazuki was the fact that good ghosts were not easy to find, as very few stories are known about them. On the other hand, evil spirits are less hidden.
The search for a good ghost would have to be limited to cases of accidents. This evil ghosts less rare to come by, as long as an eye was kept on criminal investigation cases.
Cases involving murder, domestic abuse, bullying, or debt collection would result in large amounts of hatred, leading to evil ghosts. Luckily, these cases were commonly reported on by news anchors and the media because of the attention they could grab.
Throughout the night, Kazuki filtered through the internet for news on criminal investigation cases. He didn't restrict his search to within Tokyo.
Though only a sophomore, his status, and good grades in Sakura Kyu wouldn't make it difficult for him to apply for a couple of weeks leave. As long as he maintained his grades, the Principal could not care less about where he went.
Not even the Dean of Sakura Kyu could discipline him, let alone the students. After all, the student council president was a member of the Sword Believers' Club.
At midnight, Kazuki concluded his research as his phone ran out of battery. Just after a few hours of sourcing from the internet, he already had a plan.
Akichi High School in the Herian District would be the first site of investigation since it's the closest. The Herian District was next to the district of Jinwen, roughly 10 minutes of travel by tram.
After a moment of contemplation, Kazuki charged his phone and went to sleep. From what he discovered earlier in the day, he needed a good night's rest.
The next day, Kazuki got up, took a shower, and gave his teacher a call to take the day off. He left the house soon after but didn't go directly to Akichi High School.
Instead, he went to the store to buy some brushes and ink, the pharmacy to buy some cinnabar and a shroud shop to get some yellow talisman paper.
Kazuki was going to draw talismans.
The Enchanted Talisman Skill was an ordinary skill that was used during the era of the recuperation of reiki.
Enchanted Talisman Skill, Alchemy, Weapon Refinery and Tactical Formations were the four main sideline occupations after the recuperation of reiki.
Previously, the recuperation of reiki was met with the spread of media, and the rapid progression of humanity.
Many scientists have also immersed themselves in these four sideline occupations, using modern science and technology to study these sideline occupations. Many talented professors would find something new every day.
Before Kazuki's time-travel, the Midea Group had come up with the Reiki Gathering Formation and had engraved mini formations inside of rice cookers, allowing electricity to trigger the formation. Thus, the rice produced would be filled with reiki and were also delicious to taste, causing even practitioners in isolation to crave for it.
It only took half a year for the Midea Rice Cooker to become the Midea Group's signature product.
Royalties had to be paid to the Midea Group every time the Reiki Gathering Formation was drawn. The Midea Group, the creator of the formation, was the copyright owner of the formation.
Even though the royalties were of a small sum, but the Reiki Gathering Formation was used by almost all of the practitioners of the world.
Drawing up a Reiki Gathering Formation at home would function, but large-scale formations would require the direct assistance of professionals from the Midea Group.
Just like that, the Midea Group were placed top 20 in the world with the creation of the Reiki Gathering Formation.
Kazuki knew how to draw up a miniature Reiki Gathering Formation, but there wasn't enough reiki in the air, so the formation was virtually useless.
Furthermore, to sustain the formation, energy rocks were required, and all energy rock mines were government-controlled regardless of size, making it hard to obtain. His wallet would run dry in less than an hour.
However, he figured that he could try to re-create a DIY Midea Rice Cooker himself, that would avoid copyright issues. Soon enough, Kazuki arrived home.
He took a quick shower, washing away the heat of the Summer, cleansing his body, face, hands, and heart.
Once everything was in order, Kazuki sat down at his study table, arranged the talisman paper, prepared for was to come and focused his attention to drawing.


Time travelling from the majestic era after the Recuperation of Reiki, he became Kimura Kazuki, a 16-year-old high school student in Japan, one year before the Reiki Recuperation.

Tentatively, he set out to hone himself to the bone, burning candles at both ends to stockpile resources in preparation for the imminent Recuperation of Reiki. His goal was to be many steps ahead of all humanity when the time comes.

However, it seemed like fate had decided to play a cruel trick on him.

One year later, the Recuperation of Reiki... did not happen as expected.

I know it's pretty scummy of me to not even try reviewing some content to figure out how to write this blog but I'm dealing with newbies to writing like Nimu here. Even if Nimu DID request this, I'm going to keep this simple and easy to understand.

Why would I do that? Well, I'm pretty sure that even if I bring up tropes like the 'Uncanny Valley', no one will actually understand what I'm talking about and would only nod their heads like chickens because I said some big words or something like that...

That's why I'm choosing to keep this real. Now, let's start off with: How do does horror be 'scary'?

In movies, showing images that either poke at our emotions of unease or disgust is one way to go, or just throw a bunch of jump scares and call it a horror movie... Director's choice. Similarly, you are also the 'director' of any 'horror story' you choose to write.

Most horror writers have the wrong assumption when they think about writing 'horror'. They become trapped in unease themselves because 'fear' stops them from writing. Well, if you really DO feel that way, then just channel that into your horror story.

And no, I'm not playing with ya.

There's a reason horror's start off in a simple premise with easy-to-understand people, after all.

Have you never experienced a horrifying event or nightmare before? Fine, I'll give you an example.

There was a time when I was a kid that I suddenly started looking for my older brother who went out of the room that afternoon. As a kid, darkness made me feel uneasy, so I didn't like the feeling of going into the kitchen in the other room which was pitch-black at the time. And that's when it happened!

The older brother I was looking for jumped out of the darkness and scared the life out of me...

Now, from that short memory. What have we found that made this memory so impressionable?

The answer is that there was a 'sudden set-up' of unease before the jump scare, making it scary.

If my brother had jumped in front of me at any other time, I would only be mildly surprised. However, the transition between 'set-up' and 'payoff' made it more worthwhile. This is what you must remember.

Remember, before setting up a scary scene in a horror story, you yourself must first evaluate how much 'set-up' you are willing to make for the end payoff and if that payoff is even worth it.

The reason I got scared by my brother was because of the 'suddenness' of the event. If I had time to properly analyse the situation and realise that my brother was playing a prank, the effect of him jumping out of the darkness wouldn't surprise me.

Likewise, if there was fast or literally no set-up and the payoff was that an brain-like alien actually existed in my kitchen. I would be scared, I would be struck dumb because my suspension of disbelief would be broken. I wouldn't even know how to internalise that event if it actually happened. The only thing I would do is stare at the thing blankly.

Blankness is not fear, it's just your brain not being able to comprehend what you're seeing.

If there is less set-up to big events, the payoff would be low. This is the same for ten chapters of set-up just to reveal someone doing a prank. You yourself must balance 'set-up' with the intended 'payoff'.

However, that's not to say scary story's need surprising moments where something or someone jumps out from the dark. Even that show called 'Goosebumps' knew the best way to scare someone is to manipulate the emotions of a reader.

When something good is happening but there is subtly a small scene of watching the main character through the window, the reader's heart is gripped tightly. If THEY don't want anything to happen to your relatable and kind character, then they will feel unease even if your character is clueless.

Then when the payoff happens, the reader will be assaulted with a sense of grief and sympathy.

Horror story's are just like that. They aren't meant to scare the reader through flashing images or jump scares but cause them to feel deeply. Though this is also a reason horrors are rarely read by people who are looking for something lighthearted and bright.

You must know this target audience and prepare your story well to become a good horror. If mixed with mystery, then you must also make sure to keep what I said in my 'Mystery Genre Analysis' in mind as everything there is also essential in this blend.

There are plenty of ways to make horrors not need mysteries by blending it with tragedy. However, it isn't something you can write with a bright heart free of ill-will towards others. After all, you must understand what makes people 'uneasy and disgusted' with something whenever you write something of this genre. As it is needed to bring out the best experience for those reading your work.

Some think Horror and Tragedy are two sides of the same coin. However, there is a reason these two are split up into separate genres. Tragedies might invoke sympathy in those who read it, but Horror strike the readers with true fears even if they are irrational.

Ghost stories make us fear the Supernatural, Stories about technology progressing beyond humans can control makes us fear Science Fiction, and even story about a mystical world which only curse its inhabitants with grief make us fear Fantasy.

We are rational creatures after all. We take each step carefully and are always uneasy about the unpredictable future, that is our mundane form of horror. We fear, and therefore we feel alive.

This is a story I worked on ages ago that has been refined and edited by adding foreshadowing to events while also simplifying the power system better than before. This story can be considered a prequel to An Adventure Beyond Greatness as it takes place years prior to the events of that story.

Short Synopsis:
After retiring from the battlefield, my life became empty and lifeless. The regrets of my past haunt me in my sleep. Then a change occurred, a King from another world summoned me to fight for his kingdom, but I died even before I could give him my answer. Now, after a fake God allowed me to reincarnate (albeit imperfectly) with my memories intact, into a world filled with magic and swords.

Long Synopsis:
This is about a flawed protagonist who only knew to rely on others and not socialise who gets a second chance to change himself in order to live the life he aimed for in his past life. The narrator isn’t exactly trustworthy since it is purely in his bias perspective while other perspectives given by others fill in the blanks that he either leaves out or twists to suit the situation.

The story itself can be considered a parody of Isekai’s classic tropes which are given a sense of reality as time goes by. As there exists no ‘Demon Lord’, there is also no black and white, only characters opinions and counter-opinions throughout the story.
