
Agnes gestured at the surface of the cauldron, smiling up at the witches gathered around her. Constance was the only absence, and Agnes harbored no guilt over the lack of inclusion. There was no time to waste. Action must again be taken, risk thrown to the four winds. If they were to save their Island, if Reese was to become who they needed her to be, the interference of Constance's reluctant and aggressive denial had to be circumvented yet again.
Agnes was aware how near the line of mutiny she trod and what her failure would mean for her, for the other witches gathered at her side. And yet, they had committed to this cause, did so the day they joined her in the glade and summoned Reese home. She would not fail them or Lilith or the Island's magic. Not after they'd come this far.
As if unknowing of the thoughts that lingered in her mind, the others smiled down at the image of Reese with the journal, the incarnations of Lilith and Mary as the shiny pink sparkles rose from the book in her hands on the other side of the image.
Time to act before anyone could stop her. "I am thrilled to confirm the magic we felt waking earlier was indeed Reese claiming the McDonald family power." She felt her cheeks heat, her face glowing with delight despite her lingering regret this was the way things must be. "As Vine previously stated." The redhead grinned with her usual enthusiasm. "And despite her initial misstep, already Reese's blossoming bears delightful fruit."
And so it had. After clearing up the byproduct of Reese's initial spell cast in anger, Agnes couldn't help the tiny shiver of joy that brought tears to her eyes at the long-awaited feeling, that of the power of the Island healing.
Vine beamed at her, Piper smiling, Rosary, too. All but Isobel who stared down at Reese's face with trepidation and her own guilt. Over Lilith's loss so long ago? Likely. And Agnes hesitated to include the historian in this act of rebellion. Still, she was well aware of Isobel's history with Lilith. Surely she must side with the Lovely Witches knowing what she knew?
Seeing what she'd seen?
"Invigorating," Rosary said. "And encouraging."
"But," Agnes cautioned, hoping Isobel's reluctance could be softened with her own caution, "there is still more to do and only Reese can do it."
"Just get to the best part, Agnes." Even Piper shivered with excitement, releasing a smile past black painted lips. "The curse can be broken."
The murmur of their happiness passed through the witches, both audible and fed by power. "We must now decide as a group how to proceed." Agnes purposely turned toward Isobel. If she could convince her counterpart to agree, things would go much easier when Constance found out. Hopefully, it would be far too late by then for the current leader to stop Reese from finishing what she started.
The discomfort on the historian's lined face shattered Agnes's illusions of her loyalty to anyone but the current power structure.
"We can't act without Constance." Isobel looked away, wouldn't meet Agnes's eyes while the Witches Cupboard coven leader sighed her sorrow at how far her friend had fallen. "She's our leader." Still clinging to the old party line, then. Oh, Isobel.
But Agnes didn't get to argue. "My very dear," Rosary tucked her cloak around her. "Constance has already presented her argument. And, while compelling, it isn't nearly convincing enough. The truth remains without Reese and her power, Lilith's power," Isobel flinched away from the stress Rosary placed on their former leader's name, "our Island is doomed."
"We might as well just hand ourselves over to the mainland and have done with it." Vine's jaw jutted in uncharacteristic stubbornness.
Rosary nodded, deep auburn hair shining in the light. "I agree. If this is true, that Reese is Lilith's heir... well. I have no doubt it is." She gestured to Agnes. "We have no recourse but to train her."
Isobel's shock flashed across her face. "How can we? As Constance already said, as tradition dictates," she insisted yet on hiding behind the walls of her rigid faith, "training must begin at infancy." Everyone groaned, including Agnes. She couldn't help the soft sound of sorrowful protest. "That is our way and has always been."
Piper responded this time, dark gaze fixed on her elder as Isobel looked away. "She deserves the chance to know her heritage." Truth. "And these circumstances are like none our history books have ever encountered. Correct?"
Isobel hesitated. Nodded at last. "I have been unable to uncover another case such as this one."
Agnes's heart trilled. Bless Piper for her steady thinking and logical mind. That tact surely would reach through Isobel's stubborn clinging to tradition.
"Besides," Piper went on, leaning toward Isobel, dark hair glinting blue in the light of the cauldron, "don't you want to know what happened to Lilith's magic?"
Isobel flinched visibly before her face settled. "What does it matter?" She shook her head, eyes glittering with moisture. No one knew better how much love was lost the day Lilith died and Isobel's best friend was torn from her. Or just how deeply it affected the historian. Perhaps including her in this effort had been a mistake after all. Isobel's pain had led her too far from anything resembling reason. She'd been too long under the influence of loss to come out the other side whole and ready to support the memory of her dear friend. "Constance says we should take her magic away. Return it to the Island and heal ourselves that way." As soon as she was done blurting that line of thought, she stopped, looking horrified.
She wasn't the only one. A long silence held, Agnes's chest tight with shock and horror. She finally spoke, barely above a whisper, all she was able to muster.
"And will you, Isobel, be the one to strip a witch of her power?"
No one spoke for a long time. The truly terrible contemplation of such an act held them still, silent. A witch was her power and her power was her. Without it she was a shell, broken and bereft. She might as well die as be stripped. And only the gravest of crimes warranted such an act.
Still silent, Isobel fled, head down, hood drawn over her lined face, pale white as if she were the ghost and not Lilith and Mary. The others huddled close to Agnes, for comfort or support or the warmth of the cauldron she didn't know. But of one thing she was certain.
She would defend Reese MacDonald to the bitter end. No matter the cost. And she would save her Island doing it or die in the attempt.
Piper gave words to exactly what Agnes was thinking, deep voice making the surface of the cauldron shiver.
"No matter what comes, we are together." Nods all around, a new stirring of connection and love. "And we will finally be complete again."
So mote it be.

Magic woke, stretched, yawned into the late afternoon and the peaceful corner of the wood where long it slept. But what prompted its return to awareness? Pink tendrils of power unwound from deep beneath the earth, the crushed needles and heavy moss. Seeking the source of its awakening with gentle curiosity.
The sun dappled trees gave way to dark orange light while dusk washed over the forest path.
Black robes caught the edges of the remaining illumination in flickers that seemed to absorb into the lush velvet folds, passing over shoulders and cowls, across the tips of the brooms they carried deeper into the quiet of the wood.
She led them, flashes of blue satin lining appearing as she moved, her narrow toed shoes gliding over the hard packed red earth, floating as if she barely touched the ground. And though the four figures moved quickly and with seeming purpose, nature didn’t shun them or their intrusion. If anything, they were welcomed, observed with ancient delight, sent on with the trill of birdsong and the chattering interest of watching squirrels.

I always wonder if this was how it's supposed to be, if this insane world was my destiny. Possibly if there was something else in store for my life.

A threatening growl ripped through my thoughts and through the floor into the small room in the basement, my so called room. The growl was most definitely one belonging to the alpha of this pack, his name is Richard. His mate had died in an attack against our pack when we were still strong and mighty. The number that had to be buried was sickening, sadly we had to see our beloved luna among the bodies. She had kept the alpha tamed and good. When she left for the moon goddess she had left only Richard to take care of their son, Darren, and their pack.

The mindset he had once had was disrupted, disorder exploding everywhere and no one could take cover fast enough to come out unscathed. As the years went by so did his love and compassion, anything he used to love he hated for the thoughts of his wife went with them. Anything he had hated he had stomped over and abused.

Sadly I am one of those things he had hated. Rogues, he despised them. I was once a rogue, abandoned and lost at a young age, the beta had found me and took me back to the pack. As I was just a small young pup, I was no danger but for some reason I was despised by the man that was in control here. I just fell into the mess of what he had abused.
As I made my way up the stairs and into the kitchen I kept my head down, no one wanted to anger this man anymore than he already was. I waited patiently for a hand to make contact with my cheek, I was late making the pack breakfast why wouldn't I be punished? At least that was his view. But when I slowly looked up there were alien people amidst us. Our alpha had started to lean down towards me, an agonisingly long time had past before he lips brush my ear.

"Don't be a little bitch now, go make us some breakfast. And if it's good you might get out of the beating for being late later." His words are quiet and soft but held a sense of authority and horror to them. I nod my head and quickly got to work.

I when I had finished I walked down the step to let them eat in peace. Dressing myself for school was next on my list of what I needed to do. Putting on the disastrous uniform of my school almost had me clawing to get out. As I pull my hair into a tight bun, one of the few hairstyles they allowed us to have, I grabbed my bag. Walking up the stairs and through the house was a hassle, I wasn't to be seen when I wasn't doing chores.

When I had finally made is outside unseen I started my way towards school. There was a feeling in the pit of my stomach that someone was watching me. Though no one would probably be watching me the feeling never ceased, even when I had reached the school building. All this time not once had I turned around. If I did I probably would be dead on the side of the dirt road leading to the pack house or being kept in some basement.

All the possibilities as to why someone would want me floated through my mind. I could be wanted for a slave as I already am, someone could simply be in the mood to kill a random bystander that just so happened to be in their way, one the one I dread most, sex. Not the fact of sex that scares me but someone forcing me, raping me, it's terrifying.

I walk into the school and hold my breath, my eyes going crazy, looking every which way. Fear climbing through my body, raising the hair on the back of my neck. I could hear someone sniffing and walking towards the closet in which I hid myself. The chance is near 100% that they were looking for me. As the footsteps stopped and stood in front of the door, sniffing again and waiting. As if they had been conflicted with what to do, maybe even where to go.

An agitated scream echos through the halls and and soon the unknown person's footsteps could be heard running away. The shadow of their feet disappear with it. The scream rips through the air, disrupting the loud gasps of relief washing over me. The obnoxious clicking of heels on the school's tile floors ceased all the talking in the hallway. Only the click clack of the heels and mumbles of who pissed the 'princess' of Mount Adinson's High School yet again.

Her name is Jakayla Tisdale, she's known for her impeccable beauty and hateful personality. Her gorgeous chocolate skin is as smooth as what we can only imagine was a cloud. Her hazel eyes always shine, the makeup around them perfectly suiting her. Her newest obsession is a bright red lipstick the complemented her so well, which she was no doubt wearing today though I hadn't seen her yet.

Her asshole personality stuck out, making you hate the bitch she was but with no doubt we are all entranced by her beauty. It's no wonder her popularity has risen. Walking out the closet I finally see the devil herself clomping down the hall, seething anger. I quickly tried to myself blend with the rest of the population, not trying to subject myself into her disposal. She was one of many who had caused my high school year to become nightmares. It's wondrous how still I'm alive with all of the trauma and hatred that been forced upon me, even by myself.

Shaking myself out of my thoughts I breathe in the horrid stench of life, well the reality of my own that is. After the hallways clear I ever so faintly walk towards my first period, almost like I was tiptoeing away from a beast scouring for me. Regardless of my grades or social presence I get quite a lot of attention when walking into the class. It'd last for the first couple of weeks of school and when we have new students, always coming in late gives a bad reputation with the teacher and a snort out of the student body. Never had I made myself seem organized, smart or stable. My lack of capability when it comes to school subject never ceases to amaze whoever witnesses.

The classes pass by at an incredibly fast speed due to the horror of what might await me I walk out of those doors and start my way towards the house. When the bell rang for our next period, my head down as I walked towards the gymnasium, someone bumps into me. As I'm falling towards the ground the books in my arms scatter around me, some landing open onto the floor. My head spins when it hits the tile, a bursting pain erupts from it. I hear someone growl ever so slightly, barely audible even with my intense and sensitive hearing.

My eyes flash around, looking wildly to wherever it might have come from, only not to find anyone but laughing peers. Gathering my books, binders, and what little dignity I had left after this accident I slowly climb off of the dirty floor. Walking everso fast, looking for an escape from the embarrassment, I soon make my way into the girls' locker rooms and change into yet another dreadful uniform, this one however for P.E. The class was a favorite for most of the students here for our enhanced abilities but for some it was the worst. It was a place to be beaten and laughed at when the stronger students fought against you.

There was nothing fair about the arrangements that were put into place. Anyone against anyone else, regardless of their abilities. Fear typically runs through all of the lower class people, whom I am apart of. Status is held to the highest of responsibility here. It is something you are either born into or placed when you come. Never, even if you rise higher than anyone else of higher status, can it be changed. You are stuck forever in this class, possibly mistreated and used.

Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe that shadow or imaginary enemy was yourself? Creating a barrier between yourself is familiar act among us all. Conflicts of should we or should we not arise in an almost unexplainably simple way. But the important part is if you'll ever choose. 

Is her worst enemy material people or herself?

Hanna sheepishly took Lisa's hand and stood up. Lisa smiled approvingly and then shouldered her coffin again. 

"I sorry you had to see me kill them." Lisa spoke softly to Hanna. "I hope you can forgive me."

Hanna slowly shook her head. "I'm ok." 

Her dark tan face was slightly paler than normal, but Lisa could tell Hanna was a strong girl. After fighting in so many battles herself, Lisa had grown numb to seeing death and she had seen many of her allies become as well. Hanna seemed no different. She too was seemingly growing numb. Unfortunately, a child should never become this way. 

Lisa shook her head to dispel these thoughts and started forward towards home. Hanna quietly followed close behind. The two were about to leave when Lisa suddenly remembered something very important. 

"Awe come on!" Lisa said giving an audible moan. "Hanna, I cannot believe I made a mistake."

Hanna looked up at Lisa confused. "What mistake?" She asked. 

"I forgot to bet on the fight for a powered computer or laptop. Now I can't read the blueprints!" Lisa said shaking her head. 

"That is unfortunate." Hanna replied quietly. 

"Oh well." Lisa said as she took a step forward. "Guess I better do it next time. Everyone makes mistakes." Then the two continued to head back home. 

The two women were going to cross back through the market area again to go back home. This time however, Lisa went down a different side road just to see the rest of the market before they returned. The road was the same as any other, trashy, wet and market stalls scattered on both sides. 

They were passing the last run-down stall when something familiar caught her eye. It was a grey plastic square corner of what might be some electronic device. It was under a stack of books and she almost didn't see it. 

The stall owner was an older woman. She looked about as decrepit as her stall. Lisa eyed the stack of books and asked if she could look at it. The old lady nodded looking happy that she might have a costumer.

Carefully Lisa took off the books to revile the object beneath them. Her eyes sparkled seeing her find. It was a small laptop!  

Carefully and with some hesitation Lisa lifted the top of the laptop. There was an audible crunching crackling sound as soon as she did. Lisa could feel her heart clench hearing it. She tried to peak at the screen hoping that it wasn't cracked or ruined. However, she couldn't tell yet. Closing her eyes, she carefully finished raising the laptop top, doing her best to ignore the horrid sound. 

Finishing to raise the top she opened one eye tentatively. The screen was ok! Only one corner was cracked, and the screen had lots of dust and dirt on it. The joints of the laptops lid and bottom must have had a lot of dirt in them. That's what caused the noise. 

Lisa sighed out loud. Next was to see if it worked. Looking down at the keyboard every key was accounted for. The touch pad and selection keys at the bottom of the board also seemed to work. 

Finally, the real test. Was the laptop capable of running? 

Lisa presses the power button gently. Nothing happened. She pressed it again a bit harder. This time there was a slight 'click' noise from the power button. Then the black screen of the laptop suddenly turned dark gray. The sound of a small fan running inside it could also be heard. Then the computer company name appeared on the screen. 

It worked!

Concealing her excitement, as best as she could, Lisa looked at the old woman. 

"I'll give you five dollars for the laptop." Lisa said. 

The old lady didn't budge hearing the price. She calmly folded her arms across her chest and leaned back against the wall behind her. "We both know it's worth more than that. It even runs. One hundred dollars." She replied flatly. 

Lisa sighed in her head. "Let me think for a moment." Lisa said unfazed. Just then the screen changed to a log in page. Seeing it Lisa then asked, "Do you know the password? I can't use it if it's locking me out." 

"I do." The old lady replied with a nod.

"How about twenty-five dollars. It's not like I have any way of charging it any way." Lisa offered. By trying to say it's use would be limited she was trying to negotiate the price to be lowered. A very simple tactic. 

The old lady sighed aloud. "Fifty dollars. I won't go any lower." She grumbled. 

"Deal." Lisa said gently putting the laptop lid down. Then she set it on the old ladies' stall and slipped of her coffin. Since she was in a public area, she was sure to be careful that no one watching them could see the coffins contents. After getting the money from her safe inside the coffin she gave it to the old lady. 

"Pleasure doing business with you." Lisa said giving a smile. 

The old lady did the same. "Like wise."

Turning to go she motioned to Hanna that they were going and then tucked the laptop gently inside her jacket. This way no one would see her valuable possession. 

The wall back home was rather uneventful. The wet roads puddle had shrunken considerably, and the sun occasionally peaked out from behind the clouds. They talked about some of the other things and cloths they had seen in the market, but other than that they walked mostly in silence. 

They arrived back at home far sooner than everyone expected. Lunchtime was still over an hour away. When Joan heard Lisa calling from outside, she had only just started the fire in the garage. 

"Your back really soon." Joan called to the two ladies as they entered the garage entrance. "Did everything go alright?"

"We had a few problems, but we got most everything I need for now."  Lisa replied. Then while watching Joan cook Lisa explained what had happened to them on their trip. Joan looked worried when hearing about the fight with Jackson's Match Fighters but didn't interrupt. Then only once Lisa was done did Joan speak. 

"My goodness that does sound rather like a very exciting trip. It makes my runs there for food sound so boring." Joan said with a sigh. "So, does the laptop work at all?"

"Yep." Lisa said taking out the laptop from her jacket. "I'll try to open the dam's blueprints after we eat."

Just then the rest of the neighbors arrived at Joan's garage. The smell of the soup cooking must have drawn them over. Seeing Lisa and Hanna were already present they asked why. Lisa then had to retell their trip to the market all over again. 

"You actually met one of the Mad Dog gangs' lieutenants?" Benny exclaimed first. "What a lucky break!"

"And you got a laptop." John said joining in. "So, you'll be leaving us soon?"

Lisa nodded slowly. "I still plan to, but only if I can read the blueprints."

"I see. Well at any rate the soup smells done. Let's eat." John replied licking his lips hungrily.

So, everyone had eaten their fill and got comfortable inside the house. Lisa sat alone at the kitchen table and opened the laptop. It creaked loudly again with all the dirt in its joints. She tried to blow the dirt way and managed to get a lot of it out. Then she started it up. 

While waiting for it to load up, she got up and headed over to her coffin that was still in the garage. Inside it mixed in with the electric parts box was the scanner she had taken from the AFR Officer. It had a port on its backside to where she could connect it to the laptop. Fortunately, the two could connect to each other. 

Then after typing in the password that the old lady had given her, did she finally have a chance to see the main screen. Glancing at the battery meter she saw that there was forty eight percent remaining. Plenty of power for the moment. 

Plugging the scanner to the laptop was a simple as it sounded. The file to the scanner's contents opened up immediately after plugging it in. Thankfully there were only three files inside. One was the system files of the scanner. The next one was labeled Random Files and had nothing all that important it when Lisa checked. Then the final file was labeled, Maple Valley Dam Files.

She clicked on it and watched as a loading screen popped up and slowly loaded the files. Then after a minute the files opened. 

Just as she had hoped it was all of the blueprints, schematics, maps and functions of the dam were all there. She could now start her takeover of the dam facility. She rubbed her hands together excitedly and started studying everything about the dam carefully. She could almost feel the money in her hands knowing that it wouldn't be too long before she would get rich from the electricity. 

However, the future would not be that easy as she was soon going to find out.

Several years after major nuclear events, followed by the rise of robotic armies, have caused the world to become post-apocalyptic. The year is 2276 and Earth is now full of anarchy, corruption and death. A lone woman carrying a large backpack, in the shape of a coffin, comes to a small post-apocalyptic town in the middle of Utah whose only existence rides on the Colorado River. There is a dam which provides water, food and transportation to the several thousand people who have been congregating in the re-growing town. Many had hoped to fix the hydroelectric station to rebuild their lives, but corruption brews. 

The lone woman stops at one of the bars and gets into a fight with some local gangsters who were mistreating a young girl outside. Causing her to become at odds with the gangs of the town. This is the instance that first roots our heroine, Lisa Cunningham, to save this town and prompted her to grow her Black Market Empire here! 

However, gangs are the least of her worries! Robotic army’s, rebellion militia, mutated monsters, mad cults, competing companies and lustful men ogled over her all the time!! Not to mention the strange events that slowly begin to happen around the girl, Hanna, that she saved. 

Yet there is more to Lisa than good looks alone. She has come back from over 200 years ago and is learning more about what has happened while she was in cryogenic sleep. How will she be able to survive in a hostile world and reach her own goals?

Calvin woke up late in the afternoon to a rainy Satuday.
They had arrived back at the apartment some time around six in the morning, quickly brushed their teeth, and fell asleep in their clothes from the night before.
He sat up and peeked over the sofa, Donovan was still soundly asleep and no sound came from either bedroom.
"I told you the arcade would be fun." Said Z.
"Hm."
Calvin pulled the curtains aside just a little and peeked outside.
The sky was darker and poured harder than the day before. The apartment had a balcony which was almost bare, aside from a chair and a table beneath a tarp which was now soaking with rain. The cars which drove on the street below had their windshield wipers on max speed as they drove through curtain after curtain of rain, illuminated by the cars' headlights.
Calvin changed into pajamas, concluding that it was too rainy to possibly go anywhere.
He opened his laptop to realize it was barely five in the afternoon.
"It appears that you've been asleep for a while." Commented Z.
Calvin gave his usual reply. "Hm."
"You still seem really tired."
"Hm."
"You're always tired."
"Hm." Calvin logged onto his laptop and looked at the headlines for the next week on the spreadsheet.
The main headlines for the entirety of next week was regarind the election. "ARTIE AND PZAKERI MAKE FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR DEBATE ON THURSDAY!" was in the headlines for almost the entire week day until Thurday which read "ARTIE AND PZAKERI GO HEAD TO HEAD IN A DEBATE!" followed by "ARTIE TAKES THE LEAD IN THE POLLS!" on Friday.
"This election is wild." Muttered Calvin as he scrolled through the next several weeks' headlines, approximately eighty percent were regarding the election and the rest on the Tom and Poe T. Ato brothers.
"Yep." Replied Z. "It really is."
"Who are the Ato brothers?"
"I don't know."
"Hm."
There was a rustling of bedsheets as Donovan sat up. "Did I just hear you mention the Ato brothers?" He asked as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
"Yeah." Calvin quickly closed the spreadsheet and opened the local news website. "They're...uh...on the headlines."
"They're billionaire celebrities that cause some big commotion almost every other month."
"Ah."
"They're also assholes, the media outlets love them, though, because their parents fucking own them."
"Ah."
"If there's ever a class war, they're probably going to be be-headed first."
"Hm." Calvin thought about the only piece of information he knew about in the twenty-first century, the fall of society in 2069.
Suddenly, the front door opened, and in walked Fang Wen and Ai Di wearing matching purple ponchos, dripping with water. Fang Wen held a large, flat rectangular bag while Ai Di held an umbrella.
"Hey, guys." Said Fang Wen and Ai Di.
"Hey." Began Donovan. "How's the art fair?" Donovan asked.
Fang Wen shrugged. "Didn't sell anything, did get a bunch of business cards, though."
"Aw..."
"Hm." He yawned and the couple entered their room without saying another word.
"Art...fair?" Calvin muttered.
"Yeah, Fang Wen paints." Answered Donovan, nudging Calvin. "He met Ai Di in some painting club."
"Ah. What medium does he use? Oil?"
"I guess, I don't paint."
"Ah."
"Well, wanna...wanna play some video games?"
Calvin shut his laptop and sighed. "Yeah, why not?"
They sat down on the floor in front of the TV and played video games for what seemed like an hour or four until Fang Wen walked out.
"Have...have you guys had breakfast yet?" He asked. Donovan and Calvin looked at each other and then looked at Fang Wen who sighed deeply. "You're both children. I'll...I'll made breakfast-pizza."
"Thank you." Donovan and Calvin said sheepishly as they began another round of melee.
Ai Di soon walked out, and joined Donovan and Calvin while Fang Wen remained in the kitchen keeping an eye on the oven.
The entire apartment was quickly filled with the aroma of roasting mushrooms, cheese, chicken, tomato sauce, green onions and pizza dough. Hearing a loud scream from the living room, Fang Wen stepped out to see Ai Di jumping up and down on the sofa while Donovan's hands covered his face and Calvin glanced back and forth at the two with utter confusion.
Fang Wen sighed and returned to tending his pizza.
As they sat in an oval on the kitchen floor, another conversation regarding Calvin sprung from what seemed like nowhere.
"So, I heard you like to write." Ai Di began.
"Huh? Oh...yeah." Calvin answered panickedly. "I want to be an author."
"Me, too. What type of books do you write?"
"Oh...uh...fantasy...novel...time travel...yeah."
"Ah, cool, I wrote a horror book."
"That's cool."
Ai Di nodded, then quietly added as she took a bite of pizza, "I guess it wasn't scary enough..."
"Hm, so...so you stopped writing?"
Ai Di nodded sadly.
"How come?"
"One book sold in like three months, I guess the summary wasn't interesting enough or something."
Calvin sighed and added in a barely audible voice. "I...I guess everyone has to start somewhere."

At first, Jiang Ya Lin was going to explain the process before leading them to the magistrate but changed her mind. It would be better if she handled the process for them. Although she was a young miss of a noble family and not yet a madam with a household in her hands to care for, she was quite familiar with how these things worked.

 Being that she was an orphan and not a true daughter of Commander Jiang, she felt the need to work twice as hard and be twice as diligent. Thus, Jiang Ya Lin studied everything she could get her hands on to be an outstanding young lady, hoping to make her father proud and not regret picking her up.

 As they got to the gates to the Magistrate's Estate, they were met with a problem.

 Honestly, Jiang Ya Lin felt they were being difficult on purpose. She didn't understand how, though noblemen wear them quite frequently, it suddenly became forbidden to wear a mask inside the Magistrate's estate.

 Remembering Li Yu Rong's several warnings, Nastasia shook her head. "Can't take off."

 Feeling a bit helpless, Jiang Ya Lin then asked. "What do you want to do?"

 Thinking a moment, Nastasia replied. "I stay here," she pointed to the wall by the gate, "Paoxiao do it. He has the money."

 Although Paoxiao did not want to leave her there, he agreed to it. With An Ying guarding her within the shadows, and Nastasia being within sight of guards guarding the gate, he felt that nothing should happen to her in the bit of time he would be gone.

 Paoxiao and Jiang Ya Lin followed a guard into the estate. As soon as they went beyond her sight, Nastasia moved to the side of the wall, to lean against it. As she watched the people milling about, she fell into deep thought.

 It would be nice if this all worked out. In the books she read, gathering information always seemed to come with ease in the cases of those who owned a shop and had workers diligent in collecting information. Therefore, she held on to the hope that by doing this, she would be able to find that guy who spoke English.

 Perhaps, even, she would be able to repay Paoxiao a bit for all of his helping her by helping him to find his sister.

 As Nastasia's thoughts turned, her face was drawn up into a thoughtful frown. Even if the shop she got wasn't the one they looked at in the center of the market, so long as she set things up right, even one at the edge of town would draw in the crowds. Although the location was generally everything when it came to a shop's livelihood, people would also go out of their way just to see the unordinary.
 
 Whilst in her thoughts a young boy came stumbling towards her, tears streaming from his eyes. Seeing him fall to his knees, she snapped from inward thought and hurriedly helped the boy to his feet. The boy was filthy, because of that, his tears left dirt tracks down his cheeks making him look all the more pitiful.

 Grabbing her robes, the boy's soft and sweet voice painfully pleaded. "Pleases help me, my grandfather is sick. I don't know what to do."

 Though she didn't know exactly what "hài​bìng (to fall sick)" meant, she understood that something bad had happened to the boy's grandfather. Thinking of her own beloved grandfather -whom she missed dearly- Nastasia did not hesitate in going to help the young boy.

 "Where is he?" She asked.

 The boy's sad expression lit up. Taking her hand, he eagerly led her to an alley not too far from the left side of the Magistrate's estate. After they walked in a bit, from the dark corners of the narrow path up against the walls, came several shifty looking characters to surround them on all sides.

 Pulling the little boy to her side, Nastasia took in the armed ruffians, looking for an opening. Although her grandfather had trained her in martial arts, her skills weren't enough to see her past ten armed men whose arms were as thick as tree trunks. Especially while trying to protect a little boy.

 The first thing to be done would be to open a path for the child to escape, and then she would try her best to do something about herself. As she prepared to make such an attempt, she couldn't help but wonder if this was the trouble the little boy's grandfather had gotten into. Also, if it were, why would he come to her rather than the police -or the equivalent for this world?

 The answer was soon had as the head of these ruffians spoke in a deep snarling voice. "Good work Little Si," then he slid a look to the man beside him, "Luo Yang help the kid along to the Spirit Realm so that he may keep his grandfather company on the way to the Wheel of Reincarnation."

 "What!?" Little Si cried out in horror. "You said that if I brought this girl to you, you'd give me money for grandfather's medicine!"

 "Funny," the man chuckled, "I don't quite recall that."

 As the man, named Luo Yang, reached out to grab the boy with one hand while the other prepared to slash him with a sword, Nastasia kicked the man's hand aside while pulling the boy close. The kick, being a solid connect with all her force behind it, cracked his wrist with an audible snap.
 
 "Good for nothing, wench!" Luo Yang roared. Without bothering to look at his injured hand, he changed the grip on his sword as he swung it at both the girl and boy, vision hot with rage.

 This was supposed to be a simple robbery and maybe a bit of fooling around with the girl; her body looked liked it'd feel good writhing beneath them. Yet, the girl had to go and injure the one among them with the fiercest temper. Though it was a pity, the girl shouldn't have fought back.

 She was only getting what she deserved. So none of them made any moves to stop him as jeering smirks lit up their faces. Some were hoping for Luo Ying to show some restraint and not outright kill the girl. Even if she was only severely injured, they could still use her body for some fun.

 A figure swiftly appeared, seemingly materializing from nothing, blocking the strike by single-highhandedly grasping the other man's arm. In a swift, fluid motion that grasped arm was twisted behind the man's back. The sword in his hand had been snatched up to split his neck flesh intwine.

 Blood rushed from the wound as Luo Yang gurgled out an unintelligible noise, stunned over the sudden actions that took his life before his body dropped as dead weight to the ground.

 The man that so swiftly intervened looked over at Nastasia. His eyes checked for any wounds, even a slight hair out of place, before switching his emotionless gaze back to the group of bandits. Seeing that face looking back at her, she recognized him as the ever quiet, always at the side, An Ying.

 Though this girl wasn't his master, she was someone his master held dear. Though she was uninjured, these soon to be corpses had intended to harm her; their leering gazes spoke even further of the dirty designs they held. Though she wasn't his master, his bloodthirsty nature surged forward all the same, as if it were his master suffering the attempted harm.

 "You little bastard, you'll pay-"

 Before the words could finish, An Yin already took the sword with the man's comrade's blood and shoved it through his throat, effectively ending the sentence. The man fell into a crumpled heap. An Ying made no attempts to retrieve the sword.

 The rest grew cautious after that, not daring to waste time on curses. Instead, they moved as one force to try and surround the darkly dressed man, hoping that their greater numbers would prove an advantage. It helped to bolster their confidence, the fact that this man didn't try to reach out for the sword stuck through their brother's throat.

 An unarmed man was far easier to deal with.

 Or, it should have been.

 Reality proved otherwise. As the men reached out with their swords, attempting all at once to slice him to ribbons, An Ying's flesh was not graced with a single blade. Reaching out, he wrested a sword from a sturdy grip, slicing the arm from another before piercing the heart through the gaps in his the ribcage. 

 An Ying was like an Asura risen from the depths of hell. He killed with a single-minded efficiency that chilled the blood. After the third and fourth of their brothers fell, the remaining bandits fell into chaos as they were overtaken by fear. He killed with all the feeling of a man snuffing out an insignificant insect.

 People gripped by the hand of fear were prone to foolish mistakes. It was due to this truth that the remaining bandits were killed with all the ease of plucking weeds from a garden. 

 After the last of them became a cold corpse on the ground, An Ying reached out toward the little boy...

Rachel now has a section in the castle dedicated to her study of medicine, its small but it is enough to get things done. The staff also knows to be careful in cleaning as a sect of dust would something send her into a flying rage. 

That would annoy the King and he would in turn take it out on them. 
"Merlin another, headache bottle if you would" Said Uther walking in with dead eyes and looking like he had a hangover. Rachel sat down a bottle of pills and a cup. Which he took, Uther behavior only got worse after he became King, before he was a decent knight. 

Uther's work as a King was surprisingly really good, its just his behavior that overshadows his work, Truly Tragic. 

"Wash your hands first" Rachel said picking up a few books and putting them back on her shelf. Morgan was sitting at the table where she the items for Uther on the table. She watched the man who is King go wash his hands and take the bottle. When she was young, she was taught to fear this person. But, now seeing him everyday and watching his stupidity she was completely used to him. 

Uther winked at Morgan as he took some handover medicine and walked out.  While Morgan just shrugged her shoulders as she stood up to help Rachel clean up the books. Arthur was ransacking the place not too long ago; the books are a mess. 

After cleaning up, Rachel went back to her lab, with Morgan following behind her. Rachel began to experiment in making her new type of medicine, while Morgan watched and followed along diligently. 

A little later in the day, Rachel had put together some plants and herbs and started to drink it. Taking a glance at Morgan who was eating a sandwich she was curious about what she was drinking. She had never asked before and would always stare while eating. 

Rachel in turn never offered because the concoction is highly medicated and tasteless, not something a child would like. Rachel leaned on her shoulder and relaxed into her hand, Arthur was in the back sleeping, he spent his morning with the knights as they where teaching him sword fight. IN the afternoon he is supposed to get lesson from the royal tutor, who should be popping to collect him soon. 

"Is he in the back again?" 

'Speak of the Devil' Rachel nodded her head as the Royal tutor went to the back room to collect Arthur, picking up some earmuffs she placed them on her head, while Morgan did the same with a pair she made. 

The next minute the bratty Arthur was screaming, kicking and punching. He is every bit a brat as he is a Prince. The Royal tutor was old and seemingly used to this, it might be because he was familiar with this kind of behavior with the young royals. He dragged a screaming Arthur outthought flinching or anything.

Sometimes one must feel bad for the minor characters working the everyday jobs. Its really just sad one day your happy go lucky the next some protagonist just decided to ruin your day. 

After Arthur's voice became barley audible, Rachel took off her earmuffs and sighed. "I Can't wait for that Brat to grow up" she muttered. 

Morgan just watched her as she went back to work, she then turned her head back to the door Arthur was dragged out off, when she turned back, she took a bit of her sandwich and quietly ate the rest of it. 

It didn't take long for Uther to walk back in, around the evening, looking quite flushed. Rachel for the love of god wanted to face palm herself so much. "For you or for her" Rachel whispered due to Morgan sleeping on the sofa by the library. 

"For me" He said in somewhat of a slur, he glanced at Morgan and then back at Merlin. Rachel walked up to one other her cabinets. "Can I get the flavor you gave me last time."

Rachel nodded her head and picked up a brownish vial and walked over to him. "Here"

Uther popped it open and gave it a sniff.  "Ah, the best" Uther said walking out as Rachel folded her arms and shaking her head. Walking to the window, she looked at the bright moon. From the window she felt the flow of magic from the outside, it was an amazing feeling. 

But then she looked down at the streets and her mood immediately had taken a 180 turn, as she saw the disgusting dirty flesh-eating rats crawl around eating whatever. Including the human waste just laying their not being cleaned up at all, and just laying on the ground. 

'I really hate this place'

My Life was hell my days were filled with So much misery that I no longer found any reason to live it. But, I was also a coward who couldn’t even pull the trigger to end it all myself anyway. That’s Why I was so happy when she pushed me into the oncoming traffic.

The small town of roku which was usually bustling with activity at this time of the day strangely was housing deserted streets, which was only patrolled by the occasional group of soldiers belonging to the royal army. Said royals had received a call via the transponder snail not too long ago that a group of cipher pol agents would be arriving in the kingdom of Ishiria and the royal army received the order from the king to greet them with alot of fanfare and assist them to the best of their abilities in order to not hinder and in fact help them to fullfill their mission which in turn would reflect positively on the king which may in the end help him earn a few favors with the Gorosei. So it came as no surprise that soon after the call was received all hell broke loose in the royal palace and the troops assembled at its gates before marching straight to the docks while on the way proclaiming and enforcing the curfew ordered by their royal majesty to not leave a single soul out on the streets that could possibly hinder the cipher pol agents.
Soon all the soldiers that had been called to duty had assembled themselfs at the docks and awaited the agents arrival.

Meanwhile old man Bai had broken down the main entrance to the underground market place belonging solely to the underworld and jokers syndicate, swatting every nuisance in the form of guards out of his way and leaving a path of destruction in his wake. Not letting himself be immersed in the carnage he caused by appearing in said place old man Bai simply held his whole concentration centered on one point inside the underground facility which exuded an all too familiar aura he had come to know over the years in his time in the grandline and he would not fail to acquire why he came here. And anyhow, who was supposed to stop him?
So with a single thought in his mind he wove through the labyrinth like structure of the facility, listening fully to his souls instincts while observing the rest of the island with his observation haki. Nothing could go wrong, for there was no room for mistakes. Too much was on stake!
Soon he reached the room and with a single punch old man Bai blew the door away and stepped into the room, walking straight over to a chest, which was chained to a table. Not minding this he ripped the chains apart, grabbed the chest and turned around and left without a single glance at the rest of the rooms contents. He still had some more preparing to do.

The soldiers on the coast were growing a little restless. And who could blame them? Nobody liked to stand still for hours without moving a single centimeter. But that restlessness soon turned into murmurs as the first rows spotted a ship appearing on the horizon. 
"There they are sir!" one soldier on the lookout spoke loudly to his commanding officer who was sitting on an obviously expensive looking horse who in turn turned his attention from the lolipop in his mouth to the single ship on the horizon. Throwing his precious little lolipop away the commander yelled at his soldiers: "Alright you maggots, stand sharp and shut your trap! I don't want to hear a single word from you lot while I great the agents. Should any of you go against my orders you'll scrubbing latrins for the rest of your miserable life, you got that!?"

"SIR; YES SIR!" the soldiers responded with horror written over the faces of a select few who seemed to already had had the pleasure to make the madam latrins aquaintance in the past, memorable no doubt.

Soon the ship was only a few minutes away from landing which at first caused exitment to surface on the commanders face which very soon turned into confusion.
"Soldier! Were there supposed to arrive more than one ship?" the commander asked the communications officer who in turn denied the question which caused even more confusion inside the commanders mind but gradually said confusion turned into a vague sense of foreboding. Granted, said commander had never been involved in any actual fighting, due to his highborn status but that didn't mean he didn't have human instincts which in this case told him to grab himself another lolipop and get the hell out of there! Sadly he couldn't do that so he pushed those feelings down and told his soldiers to prepare for the worst should anything unexpected happen. And as it turned out he was right to do so.
The ships took a sharp turn to the right, presenting their flanks to the soldiers who only now realized how many ships there were coming towards them. At first it seemed like it was only four but it turned out that behind those four hid another eight ships, bringing their numbers to a staggering 12 fully weaponised galleys who by now with an audible *cluck* pulled up the covers for their canons which sparkled ominously in the sunlight of the midday sun before all hell broke loose and the whole pier was turned into rubble. Men were screaming, animals crying and chaos took over the place until the first of the invaders landed and charged every soldier who remained battleready with an audible cry to strike fear into the defenders. Fighting took over the place, screams of the dieing or wounded, motivational cries to rally allies behind a few to charge once again and the hitting of metal against metal singnalling the beginning of war in the kingdom of Ishiria, which was promptly relayed to the kings administration via transpondersnail which in turn called the world government and informed them of the happenings which caused absolute chaos with the marines and the world government, not knowing what the hell these people were up to.

The fighting kept going until soon enough another two ships appeared on the horizon from different directions. One marine ship and a pirate ship, both taking course to Ishiria as well.

Every morning Shandra played in a small creek with jasmine bushes and juniper trees on the creek side. Splashing and playing when she should be bathing and washing her dress. The creek was nice and cool with the sun out to warm the air it was the best day. She loved this creek the sound was so soothing and it went though the forest with all the animals she befriended in her 6 short years. She jumped and spun her long red hair was all over her sun kissed face as she played in the water. She knew every bush, tree, stream, and creek. She loved her freedom.
This particular morning she played as usual but something caught her emerald green eyes. A flash of light or more like a shimmer of the edge of Avalon. Shandra was always getting in 'trouble' not like she could help herself. She was naturally curious. She had to go investigate. 
She ran from the creek and into the forest hair whipping around as she ran. She only stopped to listen for a couple seconds to see if there was a sound that went with that shimmer. She did this every couple of minutes, at last she did hear something. It sounded like a boy. Running up the closest tree to get a better look and to hide since she was not supposed to be this far from the castle. But she had to see. She stooped on a high branch and willed the tree branch to move ever so slightly so she could have a good look. 
It was a boy! He had shaggy dark chestnut hair that sparkles in the sun. His skin was a bit darker than hers. 'I wonder if he works in the farms over the mountain. But why would he be here.' Shandra said to herself. He was in a clearing with a taller man. Walking around then the taller man jabbed at the boy. She was terrified, she started sweating and panic coursed though her veins. Then she heard it. He was laughing the man was laughing. She would help the boy. Right before she jumped from the tree the boy hopped up and started chasing the man. " I'm going to get you for that Dad."  
She was bewildered he had just been playing. It had looked like he was hitting him, but he did nothing wrong. So she thought about leveling the playing field. She closed her eyes and calmed her thoughts and cleared her mind. Stretching her though out to the  field she sensed both man and boy. She could feel their happiness, This put a smile on her face. She willed a root to grow and grow and to poke out of the ground right after the boy ran past. Her eyes flew open in time to see the man trip and fall. She let out an audible laugh. Her hand flew over her mouth and the boy looked her way. She panicked and ran. Her feet did not stop until she reached the castle. Out of breath and scared that the boy followed. 
She was in training to be the next high priestess of Avalon. She trained everyday be it physical lessons or just studying from books. She like the physical lessons the best. Actually testing her strengths and magic. She could already commune with animals and had control over the earth and fire. 
She did not know her birth mother or father. At times that fact made her look in the archives nights on end just trying to find something anything that could help her know where she is from and maybe find out who her parents are and why they left her here in Avalon. The priestesses have found found her in the middle of a field under a full moon with fireflies all around her.

Morning came sooner then later, I went about my routine after offering proper prayers to God, I'm no fan of churches but I believe God exists and he's the supreme being, I thankfully woke up early so I was able to eat a proper home cooked meal.

 The rest of the day went really well too, I had no problems as Mark, Tess and Matt was all absent, it was unsettling however but even the populars barely noticed and there wasn't really anything I could do so I held my peace.

 Three exact days after my banter with Mark, they –Mark, Tess and Matt still were all not present, I didn't know why but I couldn't shake the unpleasant feeling that something was wrong somewhere, so even if it was a herculean task, I asked the populars for their whereabouts, I mean Mark's and Tess', then I found out it was Mark's birthday week so the lovers were on a week's vacation to the popular city of love – Paris. Even at that, I still wasn't satisfied and that didn't actually explain the mysterious disappearance of Matt, as far as I could remember the Bookworm had a perfect attendance.

 Tuesday was when my worry was confirmed to be valid, all three of them were declared missing by the school management, Mark and Tess' parents only noticed they were gone yesterday and it turns out Matt is an orphan and the orphanage was obviously careless about his whereabouts until a family showed interest in his adoption, no one had a clue of where they could be, not even the populars. 

 The school's CCTV footage for the entire week was mysteriously wiped clean and the security guard on duty all week said they hadn't left the school compound, everyone was dumbstruck, even the teachers couldn't take a guess of what might have happened and the unusual part was that it disturbed me even more than I was willing to admit, why it was so was what I couldn't fathom.

Sure enough, the next day Eastwood high was more of a desert than a school, very few teachers and almost a nonexistent population of students were present, I could tell it was because of fear, no one knew what gobbled up two popular students and the Bookworm, they had probably all come to a conclusion that their disappearance had something to do with coming to Eastwood so they all stayed in the security of their respective homes.

 Cops were everywhere around and in the school building, they were trying their possible best to piece the puzzle together but there were very many unfounded pieces, pieces I might be able to help with, for example, only I knew Matt went to the library during lunch hour, only I knew Tess was also in the library at that time,it was only me that could tell that Mark probably went in after I told him off several days ago, I wanted to tell the cops that I might have figured out the link behind their disappearance, that maybe something or someone in the library was connected to their disappearance, but I wanted to get my facts proven first so I decided to go to the library – alone.

 The library's quietness was creepy, everything was just as it used to be, neat rows and rows of books stacked properly in the wooden shelves, reading desks were just as orderly as it used to, even the librarian's nude nail polish that had been there since I could remember hadn't moved an inch, I wandered all through the large empty space but not a thing was out of place except from the new stack of books at the rear end of the room.

 Those books however were kind of disorganized and out of place, I carefully looked around it for anything that could be a clue, 

Nothing.

I sighed in resignation and made to leave the room when I noticed a bright book cover strangely hanging out of the remaining books on the top shelve by my right, out of curiosity, I picked the book and checked the cover for the title,

The mystery.

It had the picture of a glowing golden mansion drawn very beautifully over the cover, however the author's name wasn't indicated. I turned the book over instinctively to check what the story is about and surprisingly, very few words were written as the synopsis.

….four highschool students join forces to unravel the mystery….

It was strange, no author, no publisher, nothing. I opened the first page of the book, THE MYSTERY was boldly written on it, the next page had the table of contents, it only had fifteen chapters outlined on it;

4. Mark Octavos Stoner.

5. Joanna Yvonne Cooper.

My heart skipped a beat when I read my own name on the fifth chapter, maybe it was just a coincidence? I went on to read the rest of the chapter content, the book can't actually be based on lives of random people right?

6. Find and fit in the key to the golden mansion.

7. Fit in the missing pages to their appropriate books.

8. Obtain the treasure box.

9. Change the course of history.

10. Tame the lions.

11. Get the yacht to the shore.

12. Race to the crown.

13. Secret task; protect your teammates.

14. Walk through the house of horror without screaming in horror.

15. Unravel the mystery.

Of all novels I've ever read, both electronic and paperback, this novel is sure the most unusual. I mean, who publishes a book without her name being indicated, no dedication, ten worded synopsis, unusual and unrelated chapter names? It was really strange but I couldn't put the book down, so I ignored all the warning alarms blaring in my head, went over to a study desk and opened the next page of the mysterious book –The mystery.

 

All is not what it seems," I whispered with my fingers crossed and everything changed, literally everything....

Have you ever wondered if there is a world of imaginations and imaginary friends and characters?, well here's a spoiler; there is and it's up to Joanna Coopers to get sucked into it so she can rescue her friends/enemies and by rescue, it means living through and maybe changing details of a number of novels to unravel a very unusual mystery.
But that might seem farfetched as Joanna is a timid,shy,highschool loner that barely talks and does nothing but read books, is that going to be a blessing or a curse?, would she be able to handle the seat of leadership being dumped on her by fate?, would her long time crush finally notice the beauty and strength she has under the nerdy facade?
Find out in this adventurous story of abnormalities where nothing is what it seems.
