 I squint my eyes, as I let my gaze wander across my surroundings.

 

[A tropical forest? Why am I in a tropical forest?]

 

I keep telling stuff like that to myself, shaking my head as if to sober myself up. There was no way I was really in a rainforest – I was just crossing over a bridge in the city.

 

I notice that shaking my head does not change what I see. Truly flabbergasted and disoriented, I stay stunned.

 

[Really, I'm in a darn tropical forest!]

 

Hearing a mosquito's buzzing in my ear, I shake my head again while trying to flap it away with one hand but wait... it isn't a "hand." I look at myself.

 

[Oh sh*t what the hell happened; why am I a freaking furry?!?!]

 

My mind blanks for a slight moment can't hold it against me, right?

 

I try to touch myself and look all over my body, which is covered in black fur and white stripes. A color darker than black jade as the main tone of the color, and those stripes are so white that's it's shiny and glittering with splendor akin to white jade.

 

 [I need a mirror. Seriously!]

 

My mind hits the panic button!

 

  A long slender tail, a body that could be described as "feline" and looked on the smaller side. I have a pretty good idea of what my appearance is like, but I have no way of being sure. 

 

[Am I a cat?]

 

 [But, my voice does not sound like a meow...]

 

Sound like Minnie roars that are closer to squeaking think it's called bleating?

 

Well, it's not impressive let me tell you this, even a mouse would likely roll over and laugh so much its stomach would have cramps for a month... I feel a deep moment of gloominess all things considered.

 

Then, hearing some steps – well, those sounds are more like the crushing of branches and rustles of brushes – I stare intently to the direction of the coming noises...

 

A huge spirit tiger beast came out of the bush; furthermore, it is heading toward me with lazy and unhurried steps?!

 

Turning to try to flee, hells! When I do, it starts to trot toward me and grabs me behind the neck not hurting me at all.  Picking me up like I am the most precious thing in its life and walks off with me like it's the most natural thing in the world???

 

A belly full of anguish as well as a head full of shocks feeling like I had been stricken by lightning?!

 

Finally, it's dawn to me.

 

[I was reborn as a tiger cub? Is it my new life "mom"?]

 

Being carried by who seems to be my mommy tiger we pass close enough to mirroring waters I can see me pitifully small hanging from her snout.

 

I'm black and white fur ball with deep ice silver eyes; yeah that's what I look like.

Depressed then considering my situation I tell myself could be worse; could have been reborn as a rat...At the very least I'm a proud tiger... if anything else it isn't too bad. "Mom" size is 3 times bigger than an average horse on earth which reaches 2 meters at the shoulders, in all likeliness I shouldn't be bullied by anything just considering the size that I will have as I grow up.

 

Mom drops me off with my brothers and little sister.

 

Bigger brother is a blue ice-eyed white tiger while little sister looks more like a colour of golden caramel with soft pale brown stripes with eyes of lovely soft green and the last one is even smaller than me. He's a pretty common orange and black tiger, but he too has a unique feature of having red blood eyes; seems we siblings are a colourful bunch.

 

Now that I look at my mother properly she's truly a huge white tiger, bigger than any tiger's on earth by a large margin, wait...

 

Now, I'm wondering since I been reborn I am obviously not on earth anymore then where I am? I gaze again at the flora and environment looking for hints of species that wouldn't belong to earth environment, like overgrown carnivorous plants or any of those fantasy man-eater plants but, for the immediate surroundings of the den, there seems to be nothing of the sort.

 

 Tropical heaven climate is more likely to be where I am for the moment at least. Well, I'm not good with plants, but it doesn't seem like there is any weird out fantasy novel coloured or looking trees and flowers for the moment...

 

 My sister come and jumps at my tail aiming to bite at my poor little slender and fluffy tail. As she keeps trying to grab that tail of mine with those paws of hers, doing her best to nail it down with her and pinning it down.

 

As she keeps at it, I raised one brow obviously not impressed by my mischievous little sister.

 

Well, it not really rose since I probably don't have brows anymore. Oh well, deciding it was enough bullying of that willow tail of mine I go what the heck and jump to pin her down, so she leaves my sore little tail alone. It's seriously annoying plus it seriously hurts in the end!

 

Tumbling and jumping, makes me realize how clumsy we are looking at her we are about two months old. I guess my conscience got tangled with an already born cub or did  I just woken it back? Well, I got all my human memories; not too sure if it's a bonus since well, I will miss a few peoples...

 

I was previously called Katrina Reed, Katsy for friends and intimates. So figures I'm reborn as a tiger guess it fit's the name.

 

 Mom finally lay down allowing us to get dinner. Even if it feels wrong to go suckle at a tiger mom, but my stomach grumbles and tells me better crush my feelings and go eat while it's about time, considering how I'm stareving with all that playing and tumbling around...

 

After a well-earned dinner, I and my siblings snuggle up to the mighty mom and snore happily peacefully. At night when the moon shined at the highest point mom gets up again. Most likely she's hungry if I recall properly, tigers like to hunt at night.

 

Eyes once more follow her shape as it blends into the shadows and flora. Laying my head down again, continuing to sleep peacefully.

 

 What a day. First, I was on a bridge crossing the river with some friends of mine, then I'm here toying and playing shamelessly as a baby tiger. Heh, It's not a great loss. So, I don't mind, saves the lame life of just working every day of my life until I'm too old to work and start passing my days in a senior home awaiting death.

 

Days go by, and I realize that I'm able to cultivate like in does novel fantasy about cultivators...

 

I liked meditation when I was a human in my previous life.

 

 Guess what!

 

 When I enjoy a small well deserve meditation, I realize it accounts for cultivating also on the plus side it's just a perk. I don't even need to focus on it. I only need to eat; sleep and I'll automatically and boom up in cultivation for me.

 It's lucky for me that someday ago I saw some humans for the first time in the forest, and their aura was impressively oppressing. Even mighty tiger mommy hide with us and curled up with us showing that even her body was shaking!

 

While they passed no animals were making a sound, looking afraid to breathe out loudly as if they did death was going to be a certainty, it was dead silent.

 

Anyways, since I can meditate, improving my cultivation level I will be aiming to become a stronger spirit beast.

 

I wonder if it's possible that I can regain a "human" form or become a spirit guardian beast if I cultivate enough like those romance cultivation novel. 

 

Those that have spirit beast that looks human and is their appearances are always SO dreamy like little willow white lotus or devilishly handsome with the beauty that can cause the downfall of an entire continent...

Heading toward the lake for a dink I hear noises again rustling the bush, my eyelids slit's slight.

Turn around and try to make a break-run for it. I definitely don't wish to be spotted by that youth, he smells trouble for miles! What is he doing here? It's the middle of the forest...

He has to be strong to walk around here in the middle of one of the strongest beast namely my mother's territory, after all, a tiger doesn't eat its cubs but toward anything else that she can kill its fair game and it's a fine meal!

 

Not making even a few galloping strides I get lifted up by the neck, then made turned to face the perpetrator.

 

 [Your mother what are you looking at! Let me go! ]

 

 I rustle and try to break free struggling and wiggling while glaring at him bleating for my mother to come and rescue me... that youth poker-like face cracks a slight smile only a little curve up for a brief second, but I saw it!

 

 Making a petty full ROAR that was barely louder than a choking meow, I still showed him my full set of teeth ... With all my might and strength I glared at him showing my entire grievance in my gaze.

 The teen spoke in jest-mocking tone, infuriating me a whole lot more, but sadly I can't even reach him no matter how hard I try to scratch him well; I can scratch but hell it seems it's zero effective not leaving even a slight red mark.

 Furious at my powerlessness cross my paws under my armpits well, would be armpits and cross my legs. The pose I take resemble a pout, it looks quite humorous really.

Being able to see some light through the bag I can see somewhat that we are moving FAST from the shadows created by the trees and lands up and down branches to branches over rivers and lakes.

 

After a few hours later tears are in my eyes as I put across to my carefree days with my little tiger family...

 After a moment he seems to have climbed on a mount while I can't make up what is this creature it wouldn't lose to the mom in size...

 

With this guy mount speed; mom is sadly left in the dust. The queen of the mountain range is no match to catch up. She can only roar and destroy all the surrounding trees, her belly full of anger that her own blood was stolen from under her nose.

He suggestively smirked as he thought of her.

("If people knew that in less than 200 years, virtual reality technology would be exponentially improved and that humanity could effectively alter its own genetic evolution, terraform other planets and bio-engineer the evolution of alien species... Would they not think Man was becoming a god?")

Bending objective reality to one's will, eternal life, consciousness-transference and many more ideas, were achievements that were deemed realizable within Hideyoshi's lifetime.

("Who is to say there wasn't someone or something who did it before us? If not true in the past, the old ideas of a creator-god or eternal life could become true in the future...")

He briefly recalled different theories of the after-life.

("It's possible that I died - highly unlikely though - AI would surely have taken over control. But let's say I did, I would be... what was it called again? Reincarnation? Shouldn't I have reincarnated in the future and not the past?") 

The thought of dying was simply another possibility to be considered.

In a world where absolute poverty was being eradicated, diseases defeated, life-expectancy greatly increased, global quality of life immensely raised and natural resources replenished, death had become a minor contingency that could be dispensed with in time.

However, all this progress had come at a price...

Survival and safety assured, the fear of death no longer haunted the minds of men.
Eccentric scientists even strove to make it into a field of research, dubbing it 'death-exploration' and were heedlessly carrying one all kinds of hazardous experiments.

After contemplating for a while, Hideyoshi let his mind relax for a few minutes. An incessant thinker, this was something Hideyoshi had never experienced.

("It seems he was quite adept at meditation?") His mind had quickly become tranquil and his emotions had stabilized. 

He had never been one to spend time in contemplation but he could easily reach a profound meditative state while he was in Tashi's body.

("This is strange... I thought he was a self-harming melodramatic teen... not a seasoned meditator...")

He forcefully began reliving Tashi's memories as if they were his own. His own memories became even blurrier and he felt his mind being funnelled in two directions. 

("Huh? It's like this kid was two persons...") 

Most people around Tashi, including his parents, saw him as a boy going through an awkward phase. Only his Mother was somewhat more concerned than the rest. Hideyoshi was of the same opinion.

However, in the privacy and secrecy of his room, Tashi would apparently turn into another person and spend his free hours reading, meditating and practising various esoteric techniques like a monk.

("Was there actually been an American teenage boy's consciousness in this body or was it an act? Was he purposely hiding his library and keeping his true nature secret? ...")

("Maybe his personality was split?")

("No, it doesn't seem to be a split, it feels more like two complete personalities in one body...")

He recalled the mixed emotions he had felt in this body. 

("Those emotions did fit with the impression Tashi gives off... but the sense of psychological detachment would belong to that hermit?")

He was puzzled by the indescribable experience of being in a body that had previously housed two people's consciousnesses - simultaneously! 

("A double personality?! Or double consciousness rather...")

("His grandmother called him an old soul when he was born because he didn't cry and seemed serene. She was the one who had proposed to name him after a Tibetan Lama⁴... was she on to something? He's Japanese but she wasn't too far off...")  

("I don't have access to the memories of the monk's past life... Only his abstruse knowledge remains...")

("It seems the two personalities were harmoniously growing side by side, until... he reached the age of reason⁵... no longer 'unformed', the two distinct consciousnesses had to share the same body... in his teenage years, the difference of orientation between the two became very marked... making it look like a split personality, but they hid it extremely well...")

Tashi: ("Who the hell is Tash...") Hideyoshi asked himself when he opened his eyes. He found himself still seated in the same position - with perfect posture.

Tashi: ("That was... the so-called Mushin no shin³ ... ")

Zyta: "How are you feeling Tash? Mister 16! Happy birthday!!!"

Tashi: ("Tash... because Tashi is not short enough?") He quietly humoured himself.

Zyta: "I'm sorry to wake you up so early honey, but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday!" She raised the pitch of her voice.

Tashi: "No need to shout!" He angrily yelled back. ("What?!") his own rude reaction surprised him.

Hideyoshi's American Father was temperamentally conservative and his Cantonese Mother greatly valued Japanese tradition and culture. They had raised him to be well-mannered and respectful at all times. 

He again closed his eyes and concentrated.

Tashi: ("I see... if it indeed was a double consciousness - the Shintoist renunciate would not care for worldly matters and let the teen-rebel react as he liked to others...")

("That would explain the instinctive response, despite the disparity between this type of reaction and the inner poise of a spiritual master...") 

("I wonder if I can change his character to my liking?")

Hideyoshi was silently relishing in this whole experience. Although there were life-like games and movies in his 'world', they were nowhere near the level of realness and complexity he was currently experiencing. 

Furthermore, he was principally against wasting time with 'games' because of the mind-numbing and addictive effect they had. He had witnessed it too many times - firsthand - while working with patients and clients.

But now... he had forcefully been put in this situation.

'You found yourself in this situation, so you might as well enjoy it' was one of his Mother's pet-phrases.

He opened his eyes.

Zyta: "Okay, Sorry! I know you don't want to celebrate so let us at least talk about gifts tonight, okay?" 

Tashi: ("How much time passed while I was thinking? He could deliberately alter his subjective sense of time to this extent, even without technology! Most impressive 'mister monk'...") He speculated that if his hypothesis were true, he'd also be able to benefit from two people's life-experience. 

But that was only speculation.

"Sorry for my response, I woke up in a weird state... and thank you..." Tashi calmly replied.

Zyta: ("Wait! Tash apologized??") Misses Boncoeur was flabbergasted by her son's sudden change of attitude.

As he entered his teenage years, Tashi's character changed. He also abruptly altered his eating habits. He would refuse to eat specific foods and yet waste his allowance on weird diet fads. 

A conscientious mother, Zyta would persist in preparing meals for him and try to coax him into eating. Although he was growing to be tall like his father, she knew he wasn't eating well enough.

Tashi: "Uhum... depends on what it is?" Hideyoshi was forcefully controlling his responses. ("By God! What a drag this is... is this resistance to my control the reason the 'monk' didn't bother changing this boy's temperament?")

Zyta Boncoeur almost gasped for air. She was excited that Tashi didn't immediately shut her proposal down.

Zyta: ("I knew our boy wouldn't stay moody forever! I knew it! He was just going through a phase, that's all...") 
"Don't worry, there are fruits for breakfast and for lunch, there's no meat in it! It's cooked rice with a mix of vegetables, you can add seafood if you like."

She had found out through trial and error that Tashi would usually accept to eat Asian-type recipes. She had decided to give it a try the day before.

Tashi: "Sounds good. Thank you." Hideyoshi was straining himself to sound as genteel as possible. ("By the gods! This is like installing software on incompatible hardware!")

His 'new' mother clapped in her hands after hearing him acquiesce for the first time, in a long time. 

Zyta: ("I have to tell Greg!")
"I'm leaving for work, have a great day sweetheart! Your dad will finish his shift and be home tomorrow!" Zyta excitedly replied before running down the stairs.

After his 'mother' had left, another wave of disorientation hit his consciousness.

("My memories...?")

He looked for a sheet of paper and a something to write.

("Let me try this out!")

He tried to write out formulas of meta-maths and supra-quantum-physics he had learned by heart. All he could manage were 'antiquated' maths and physics formulas.

("I can't... write them out and such sloppy handwriting!")

("I know I should know them! But...")

He felt frustrated with his inability to reproduce what he should still know.

"It's understandable that a mind should adjust to its environment, especially after a significant spatial-temporal change, e.g. time travel..." He reflexively muttered. "Is this the consequence of trying to consciously control Tashi?"

("At least this should make the slow-paced and archaic methods  of this time more bearable to me... a normal life wouldn't be long enough to reinvent the means of the future...") He quickly comforted himself.

In his era, the reliance on technology had become absolute in certain fields and cultures. All rapid advancements were built on the previous ones. This had allowed exponential growth but made backwards-engineering progress a practically impossible venture - even for someone with Hideyoshi's intellect.

("It was the nameless monk who summoned me here... he used Tashi's name...")

He recalled the diary entry: "... bring good fortune to those around me..."

He stood up and stretched his arms.

Back on Earth, the World Government's strange movements have caught the attentions of several conglomerates built by their own "immortal" gamers. 

These businesses focused on the gaming world which provided them massive profits either by building an empire online or by tournaments with massive price pool offline.

-Team Warcry's Main Building-

Inside the meeting room of the humongous building of the elite team Warcry, the core members of the team is sitting around a huge round table with a solemn atmosphere.

"It has been more than a year since Jim and the captain were killed by an unknown force. I cannot think of anyone else that is capable of hunting down our members without us finding even a single clue on who did this. I presume that the World Government is involved in this." An asian youth with the standard black hair dressed with a standard business attire said gravely, breaking the silence in the room.

"I am not sure if the World Government is involve but I know for sure that something is happening from behind the scenes. They are targeting "immortal" gamers spefically." A scrawny teen responded.

"We cannot just sit by and not do anything with regards to this ensuing problems. We need to figure out what is the goal of this unknown force and why are they targeting harmless gamers like us." A blonde girl said softly.

"I want all the members who are not dubbed as "immortals" to gather in the branch building located in City F. Do not leave without a bodyguard and just stay inside the building as much as possible. Accomodations will be provided by the team fully. All you need to do is focus on the games that you are respectively playing in." The asian youth declared while scanning the crowd.

"As for the three of you, you will be with me in the main building. You are not allowed to go out of the building without my permission." He added while pointing out the remaining three "immortal" gamers.

These "immortal" gamers are usually reserved for competing on tournaments specially when the price pool reach in billions of dollars.

A bald youth which was previously closing his eyes with his head hanged low suddenly raised his brows while staring at the asian youth with questioning eyes.

"Arya, I know that it will be hard for you to stay in the building but I am doing this for your own safety. You can also bring your family in here so you can just forget about your reservations. Same goes for all of you. You can gather your families in the assigned buildings to make sure that they are safe." He responded calmly.

The bald youth pondered a bit before nodding his head without saying anything before closing his eyes again.

The rest of the crowd nodded their heads in low spirits. Usually, they are free spirited. They chose to be gamers because of its relatively safe environment comparing to other professions. Now, because of the strings of strange events, they can only live inside their buildings just to be safe.

"Meeting adjourned. Make the necessary preparations immediately." The asian youth concluded with a sigh upon noticing the crowd's spirit.

"World Government or whoever you are, what the hell is your goal!" he muttered silently with a sigh before slumping down his chair.

Similar meetings are being conducted on every major gaming teams all over the world. They cannot fathom what is going on and can only temporarily coop up inside their own secured buildings.

-Team Empire's Main Building-

Inside this once most glorious building in the world, the gamers from the team are low spirited with the recent continuous setbacks in every game that they conquered before. Ever since the whole "immortal" gamers of the team died, they have been bullied by the other teams either in reality or in the game.

"Has there any progress on the investigation about why that unknown force is targeting gamers?" A team shareholder inquired with low voice.

"None as of the moment. Our spies from the government have been trying to dig out everything that they can but with no progress." The head of the Intelligence Department answered with apologetic voice.

"What the hell is happening in this world! Why the fuck are the gamers being targetted!" Another team shareholder could not help but shout in frustration.

"Calm down Mr. Markov, we cannot do anything about it but it is actually quite beneficial to us. That unknown force mainly targets "immortals" so they can help us repress those other teams with us not having Mo and others anymore." A lady said with a chuckle.

Markov stared at her in disgust while another team shareholder, who was quite close with Mo and co., said with cold voice. "Please be careful with your words Savana. Do not malign our gamers just because it benefits your interest."

"I am plainly speaking about the facts Luther. This is a business we are running, not some charity to pity the dead." Savana retorted.

"Do not forget who build this team into what it is now Savana." Luther said while glaring at her emotionlessly.

"Alright stop. We will not be able to solve our current predicament if we fight among ourselves. Let the other gamers continue to develop the kingdoms we have from the other games to support our business. As for the major tournaments, we will withdraw on all of it starting today. Without Mo and the others, we'll only tarnish our name if we lose pathetically." An overbearing voice said stopping all the arguements of the two.

"Next, bring "seventh" here in the main building. It has already been over a year since Mo died. I think it's time for him to inherit Mo's mantle." He added.

	Around three in the afternoon after the Hope’s second warp, the military decided to have its first recruitment and enlistment call. 
 
	Candidates who were recruited in advance included veterans, field doctors, and, of course, those that survived Virus X. 
 
	The aim was to gather around 500 new recruits as well as 2,500 new law enforcers. This was to prop up the Hope’s own police force so that its military and civil affairs could be properly divided.

	It was now two in the afternoon. About 400 hopefuls had congregated around the stairway between the Hope’s third and fourth floors. More impressively, this number was still climbing. 
 
	However, eighty percent of the people were there only to try out for the police officer vacancies. The misadventure on Planet Sahara deterred most from applying for a military role. They had learnt of the cosmos’ cruel reality. To put it frankly, most of them wanted the privileges of being a soldier but none of the dangers that came with it. The role of a police officer offered exactly that. Naturally, the level of privilege will be stages lower than that of an actual soldier, but after three months on the job, the Hope promised an upgrade from a tent to a simple residence. Other than that, the police would only be on patrol details, and their lives would not be at risk. 
 
	This meant that only about 800 people applied for a military role. They averaged at age thirty and each exuded an air of sturdiness and reliability. 
 
	As mentioned above, the privileges accorded to military men were much greater than that given to the policemen. Their residences were much more extravagant in the sense that they were larger and came with better amenities and services. Their families were also given better treatment. 
 
	Furthermore, many heard through the grapevine that after the Hope introduces its currency, each soldier will be receiving monthly wages that could be used to trade for food and luxury items like cigarettes. 
 
	At three pm sharp, ten army captains appeared at the designated location. After setting up a set of rudimentary sign-in locales, the attendees were asked to organize into fifteen lines to expedite the registration process. Nine were for police force applications and the rest for military. 
 
	Order prevailed; there were no line-cuttings nor petty grievances. 
 
	Among the burly men who were queuing up for military application appeared an eighteen-year-old Asian girl. With cheeks that creased into dimples when she smiled, the lithe, sweet girl-next-door stood out like a sore thumb amongst the mass of muscles. 
 
	Folding her arms, she was impatiently tapping her feet as she griped to the young man behind her, “Ren Tao, didn’t I tell you that we should come earlier? You see, we are so far behind now! It will take hours for us to reach the registration. If this makes us late for dinner, I am going to whip you up real good!”
 
	“Chou Yue, would you please calm down… Actually, we don’t even need to line up…” The teen yawned before he finished his sentence. With a perpetually disheveled look, the teen gave the impression that his mind was always elsewhere. 
 
	Chou Yue leered discontentedly at the teen, chiding, “Don’t need to line up? Don’t tell me you intent to jump the queue? Ren Tao, I’m telling you now: if you really do such a despicable thing, I’m going to personally ensure that your life becomes hell!”
 
	“…no, what I meant is that since there are so many people lining up, if we are going to miss dinner, so would the rest of these people,” said Ren Tao with another yawn.
 
	Chou Yue stared daggers at him, adding acidly, “Why do you think we’re so far back here in the first place, you little numbskull… Who was it that I found up in the air vent when I specifically said not to wander off? How did you get up there, anyway? That vent entrance was lower than the others but it was still five meters off the ground!”

	Needless to say, his reply didn’t help with Chou Yue’s rising temper. After a long breathing exercise, Chou Yue finally said, “Fine. Just stand still now! I’ll deal with you later when we’re out of public eye!”
 
	The pair’s interaction had inadvertently attracted many interested stares. 
 
	They were already confused about the girl’s presence in line with them, but at least she had a commanding presence about her. Comparatively, the boy was way too skinny and was at least half a head smaller than the girl. It was hard to imagine that he had any real business being there. They would fit more in the line for a pop star concert than the line for army recruitment. 
 
	Nevertheless, they were too busy with their own preparations to worry about this young couple. It was not their job to weed out the unqualified. 
 
	One hour later, the girl finally reached the registration table. The Chinese soldier who manned the table took a look at Chou Yue and asked patronizingly, “Young lady, this is the line for military registration. Are you sure you haven’t gotten the lines mixed up? The line for police recruitment is on your left.”
 
	Chou Yue retrieved from her pocket a letter and shoved it into the soldier’s face, saying haughtily, “Don’t you think I know that? It’s you people that wanted me here! I’m not a veteran and I don’t have any medical nor military training, so I myself wonder why I’m here! If you don’t want us here, why call for the both of us?”
 
	The pair of military officials stole a glance at one another, obviously taken aback by Chou Yue’s confrontational reaction. The Asian soldier carefully took the letter from Chou Yue. Stamped with a red seal, the letter wrote about requesting the recipient, Ren Chou Yue, to be present at the recruitment spot at three in the afternoon because she had been selected to join the army. 
 
	“An early recruitment call? This means you’re one of the Homo Evolutis?” The man looked askance at Chou Yue. 
 
	“Homo Evolutis? What’s that? Do you mean the Gen-i [1]? Kids nowadays that wanders about with nose rings and neon hair? Those are the people the army is recruiting? If that’s true, I’m not sure I want your protection,” fired Chou Yue. 
 
	“No, no, that’s not what it means.” The man laughed awkwardly as he waved them away. “In any case, your recruitment has already been confirmed. Please find the officer stationed by the staircase, he’ll lead you to the fourth floor to complete the registration.” Then he handed the letter politely back to Chou Yue. 
 
	Making sure the soldier was still within earshot, Chou Yue muttered angrily, “So there was indeed no need for us to line up. Why didn’t the officials inform us of that earlier? The lazy bums! In any case, Ren Tao, you’re right again! …Ren Tao?”
 
	Chou Yue turned around and instead of Ren Tao, an African man was standing behind her. When he realized Chou Yue was staring blankly at him, he smiled kindly at her, revealing a line of sparkling teeth. 
 
	Ren Tao had disappeared again…
 
	Chou Yue was trying hard to keep her temper from boiling over as she went in search for Ren Tao. Just as she was going to reach her anger limit, a commotion sounded from a corner of the room. As she rushed towards it, she saw a few officers gathered below a monitor, yelling at it. 
 
	On top of the monitor sat a young man, obliviously swinging his feet even though he was about seven meters off the ground…
 
	Ten minutes and the aid of a ladder later, the officers managed to get Ren Tao down from his precarious spot. Before his feet even touched solid ground, Chou Yue gathered all her might as she delivered a punch to his face, giving him a black eye. 
 
	After the crowd dispersed, Chou Yue and Ren Tao, alongside other members who had red-sealed letters, were led by a senior officer up to the fourth floor. 
 
	On the way, Chou Yue grabbed hold of Tao Ren and whispered, “How did you know we didn’t need to line up? I saw these ten people with us also standing in line before.”
 
	Lazily rubbing his eyes, Ren Tao mumbled, “It’s simple deduction, really. Also, for some reason, when I thought of this, my surroundings became suspiciously silent with more clues starting to bubble up… Chou Yue, I’m afraid we aren’t getting recruited to become normal soldiers.”
 
	Ren Tao eyed the ten people around them and whispered to Chou Yue, “I’m not sure where we will end up, but I’m certain we’re here because we were all survivors of that mysterious fever… Chou Yue, if anything happens to us, please try not to let that temper of yours flare up and makes things worse…

The ten to twenty young people unconsciously split into groups of three as they walked and formed small teams. They strolled to the end of the party crowd and entered the ski resort.

That gangster underling had a neutral and unperturbed expression on while facing a large group of young men and women all by himself and even grinned sinisterly like the way a gangster would usually have when he heard Lavin family's second son said the word 'jail.' However, when he was about to curse rudely, he was immediately choked by Randy's last sentence.
Quietly and carefully reexamining the burly, muscular white man in front of him, he began to clearly sense that familiar police aura. Right away, his ferocious expression changed and was replaced with a mischievous grin as he spoke frivolously, "Mr. Police Officer, your law enforcement authority in New Washington A doesn't extend to the new New York C City. The United States is a free and democratic country with a legal system. As a law enforcer who guards the social order, you must not intimidate a law-abiding citizen."
"You? Law-abiding citizen?" Out of the habit of a federal patrol officer, Randy placed his right hand on the position where his gun would usually be when he was on duty, like how he would do when he was faced with a gangster with unpredictable behavior. Pointing at the gangster underling with his left hand, he said, "If you're a law-abiding citizen, then I'm the President of the United States. Don't be sneaky with me, boy…"
"I think it's you who should not throw your weight around, buddy," In the face of the repeated provocation of the outer city police's, the short scalper's expression changed again as he revealed a fierce look. "I'd like to remind you again, this is new New York C, not the New Washington A, where you have authority in. Also, you better watch out, you don't have a gun and a police badge with you now..."

Instead, she spoke in fear as she grabbed his arm that was like a life-saving straw when one was drowning.
"Don't be nervous, miss. It's just a trivial matter." Zhang Lisheng shook his head with a smile and pulled his hand away from the girl. He walked up to Randy and patted him on the shoulder before saying, "Randy, no wonder you're still on patrolling duty after being a police officer for two years. Don't be so impulsive and get yourself and others into trouble."
When Lavin family's second son, who was unmoved by the other people's persuasion, heard the young man's words, his tensed body relaxed right away. All of a sudden, he heard the 'tu-tu-tu…' sound of propeller spinning that was getting too close to them from a distance above the ski resort.
Tens of thousands of tourists looked up in the direction of the sound. Several helicopters that were so absurdly large began to slowly land on the Winter Fantasy Ski Resort.
By the time the helicopters descended to a certain height, several dozens of burly men wearing black suits, black shoes, and black sunglasses—whom everybody knew were federal agents but who still insisted that they were casually-clothes—leaped out of the cabin.
When they were about to land amid alarming exclamation of countless people, the ejectors on their wrists that looked almost similar to a watch suddenly ejected silver-white cold flame. This caused their bodies to hover in the air for a moment like they were supported on-air before finally landing on the ground firmly.
After a while, the federal agents began to disperse the crowds. Within just a few moments, several open spaces where large helicopters could land managed to open.
"Looks like there'll be some good shows again…" Zhang Lisheng raised his head against the blowing wind set off by the propeller and muttered as he took a few steps back. Without warning, a curious female voice resonated at his ears, "What the f*ck? Three most advanced DTU98 armed helicopters are actually landing in Winter Fantasy? This is really bizarre…"


A young man from the Miaowei Tribe brought up by his strict father, suddenly turned into Rank 1 Wizard on the day he was orphaned. He then obtained the ability to control giant worms. 
Soon after, he found his mother who was in a faraway foreign land by accident. From a small mountain village, he managed to jump into the amazing arena that was a global metropolis.

In the lowest level of the center pillar laid a massive room of ceremony. Carpets of lavender and crimson bathed the floor, fighting against the blue hues that washed in from the surrounding lake. The grand room was the only level of the center pillar that was submerged underwater and had a ceiling of at least 30 meters in height. 
Strong and sturdy silver pillars carved with intricate patterns followed the rooms circular shape. Pillar after pillar gave the room a dominating feel that was only interrupted by the gaps allowed for the 6 entrances that connected the outer pillars. 
The designs of the silver pillars seemed to hold up the ceiling my merging with it, continuing the captivating carvings to lead to a massive chandelier. 
Many circular tables filled the grand room, bathed in cloths that matched the carpet's blood red design. Elaborate floral decorations and candles graced the centers of these tables, displaying never-ending wealth. 
At the end of this room laid a wide set of stairs that led to 6 thrones. Familiar faces that had graced the silver yacht sat there, once again feigning politeness. 
The beautiful dark-skinned Duco spoke, "Patia, your daughter has grown to be quite beautiful". 
A strong and stoic man sat on one of the two center thrones. His skin had a deep olive color that seemed to complement Delia's. His eyes glowed a murky brown that was worn with age. His beard was marvelous, flowing a deep brown that was accented with whites. His hair was of medium length – combed over and well kept. 
His wardrobe matched the other 5 family heads. A flowing red robe with a chain of gold that held the symbol of focus (F) at its middle. 
He smiled, "indeed she has. I hear Fero has grown to be quite dependable. The Duco family will have good times ahead."
Duco smiled, appreciating the compliment but being inwardly surprised. She had gone through quite a few measures to keep Fero's potential hidden, but it seemed that the head of the Patia-Neva family had seen through her. 
A tall and sharp Asian man, whose face still contained his youthful vigor, walked up to the nobles before placing himself on the last throne beside Patia-Neva. He nodded in greeting before closing his eyes and preparing for the ceremony to begin. 
The shorter Asian man glanced at him before turning away, "it seems the Kami family head has come. Now that we're all here, we can begin. Correct head master?" 
Delia's father nodded in agreement. His eyes scanned the room as if looking for something before landing on his daughter who sat at a table with the other chosen of the pillar families. Delia gave him a pointed look that conveyed her message. 
Delia's father understood, "I guess he's not coming," he said in a soft voice, "no matter".
He stood and the pressure in the room seemed to increase immensely. 
Everyone stopped what they were doing and silence reigned. The soft swaying of the ceiling's chandelier made the rooms only sound, filling the room with a faint twinkling sound. 
"Today, we've gathered in honor of the opening of a new year at our Focus Academy. As is customary, the chosen of our families will display their talents for us today to showcase their level of understanding of martial theory."
He turned to look at the table of youths, sparing a quick glance at the empty seat. 
"I'm sure you all understand the importance of this event. You only get 1 chance, and in many ways, it will decide your path for at least the next 10 years. Stay resolute. Be confident. Display your focus. We will all bear witness to the level of will you can display."
A towering teen who was almost an exact replica of the towering man from the yacht stood, "It would be an honor if you would allow me to go first, head master," The teen clasped his hands and bowed. 
The head master nodded before returning to his throne. The tables, chairs and people were picked up by some unknown force and guided to the edges of the room. You would be hard-pressed to tell what was happening if you had your eyes closed. 
A platform raised itself about 3 feet in the center of the now opened space. The tall boy strode forward with confidence, hopping up and onto the platform. 
"SPEAR!" he shouted in a voice much deeper than what it should have been for his age. 
A black carbon spear materialized. Its tip shone with a silver sharpness as lightning crackled along its handle. 
The nobles nodded in appreciation. He's able to call upon the elements. Although faint, this is proof of at least a basic understanding of the will of lightning. Something that was commendable for such a youth.  
This would have been impressive enough to gain quite a few sponsors, but Storm's smile only grew larger. 
Clouds began to materialize as the youth spun his spear. He moved swiftly, with an agility that shouldn't be possible with his size. The crackles of lightning within the dark clouds grew more and more pronounced until the youth reached the apex of his movements.
BOOM!
He roared. A thick bolt of lightning descended onto the platform falling directly onto the tip of the sword as the youth swept his spear for the final time. 
The headmaster waved his hand, forming a barrier around the platform. The barrier rippled and distorted as the youth stabbed forward.
Sweat rolled down the youth's brow, "I am Hauk Storm. Remember my name."
The barrier dematerialized as Hauk stepped off the platform. 
A booming laughter filled the room, "Haha, well done son". 
The nobles were stunned. That technique was at least at the greater success level of a common level technique. Hauk was at the second or even third year level, a genius indeed. 
"A 13-year-old at such an advanced level. You've raised quite the successor Storm," spoke Bai, the small Asian man. 
Storm beamed, looking off at his son proudly. 
A fair skinned Asian girl stood after Hauk took his seat. She strode forward with elegant steps, her features beautiful and her demeanor domineering. 
The room seemed to be washed with a white light that flowed from the young lady's flowing sundress. She stood even shorter than Delia, and her eyes shone a violet that was only more pronounced because of her swaying jet-black hair. 
A translucent compass lit her feet as she used it to float onto the stage. 
The nobles received their second shock of the night and it was Bai's turn to smile this time. 
"The Feng Shui Compass, Bai?! Where have you been hiding this gem?" Duco spoke out, her silver eyes shining to disbelief. 
The compass beneath the beautiful girl's feet grew in size to perfectly fit the elevated platform before she bowed.
"My name is Bai Meiying, I look forward to the coming years," she said in a sweet voice. Her compass shrunk and guided her back to her seat where she sat still smiling. 
Although an understanding of the elements is considered top tier within the martial world, an understanding of something more abstract like the compass Meiying used supersedes its difficulty by several folds. This is because, although will is abundant, it is also limited. Elements are easier to understand because their existence is infinite and supported by the will of everything. However, a Feng Shui compass has limited will supporting it because it is a practice only seen in a small portion of the world. For a child as young as Meiying to carve out a place for herself in the will of the Feng Shui compass was unheard off. 
"To be competing for the will of the compass against experts well beyond her years… And to be able to expand it as far as she did… She is without a doubt a future pillar of our alliance," Storm spoke in disbelief. He had been confident that his son would be most impressive, but it seemed that he had counted on too much. 
The youths came up one after another, displaying talents far beyond their years. 
Fero Duco displayed his shapeshifting ability. His will of the eagle, wolf and bear shook all in attendance. To understand not one, but three wills at such a young age was simply outrageous. 
Kami Mayumi was equally as impressive. His unceasingly calm demeanor as he pulled on his bow and arrow was unmatched through at least 4 grades. A chill filled the room as he pierced target after target. His father opened his eyes and gave him a curt nod before Mayumi returned to seat. 
Afterwards, a small boy with black framed glasses walked to the stage. He was meek and frail, but his golden eyes shone with a keen intelligence. 
"Caligraphy!" he called out in a soft shout. 
A kneeling table materialized along with a rolled piece of thick paper and a glass container of ink with an elegant brush leaning within it. 
The boy kneeled and set himself. His meekness instantly disappeared. His eyes grew sharp as he opened the paper and lifted the brush in one swift motion. 
The nobles held their breath, all think the same thing, 'the will of words'. 
The boy began writing with strokes as sharp as his eyes. His brow furrowed as he leaned in with the utmost concentration. A soft wind seemed to sweep the room as he finished his final swipe of the brush. 
"My name is Pertinacis Sapientia. Today I give you this word: Genius".
"How bold," someone in the crowd spoke as they waited to see the word. 
The ceremonial hall washed over in a radiant light as Pertinacis turned over his work for show. In that instant, everyone felt the will of his word. The overbearing pursuit of knowledge and the perseverance to achieve the ultimate goal. 
"Truly genius. To convey emotion and by extension change the will of those around you is something even 5th and 6th grade students of Focus academy can't do. Mayumi reached this realm partially by washing us over with his cold intent. But, Pertinacis has his feet firmly planted in this realm. Truly astounding," the headmaster spoke his words of appreciation. 
The handsome man who wore the crystal framed glasses smiled at his son as Pertinacis walked off the stage. 
Pertinacis walked to the steps at the end of the hall before respectfully bowing and continuing. He handed the paper to his father before heading back to his seat. 
"well done," Sapientia spoke softly. 
Delia broke out of her concentration to stand once Pertinacis sat. Brown-gold hair flowing, her eyes sharpened. 
She wore a beautiful black skirt that had layered folds. Her black stockings were stretched by her toned legs and ended in black flats. The neck of her pale pink blouse wrapped around her shoulders lower than usual, revealing the silver necklace that graced her collarbone. 
A sword materialized in her hand as ice petals blossomed from her feet. Her pale green eyes iced over into a cold blue. 
The only nobles that remained seated were Kami and Patia-Neva, but even Kami's usual calm demeanor was blown over as his eyes snapped open. 
Duco sucked in a breath, "the will of ice manifested changes within her".
The nobles were stunned. Although Fero had called upon the will of the eagle, bear and wolf, the changes were only illusory. The eagle for example, partially increased his eyesight and agility, the bear his strength, and the wolf his instincts and speed. But Delia was becoming a whole new person. 
Her hair instantly turned into a bright white. Her skin paled, becoming even fairer than Meiying's. Her body shone a bright light before bursting out within her. A layer of frost covered the whole of the ceremony hall. A barrier appeared as she swung her sword.
A wall of ice emanated out, causing fierce ripples within the barrier.
Delia finally closed her eyes, lowering herself to the ground. The cold winds subsided, reducing the chill of the guests in the hall. Her hair returned to its usual golden brown and her eyes warmed to its usual pale green and hazel color. 
Her sword disappeared as she returned to her seat. 
Hauk was the first to compliment her, "you're amazing Delia. And here I thought I was going to be the best," admiration, jealousy and attraction colored his blue eyes.  
Meiying grabbed Delia's arm and pulled her closer, "stay away Hauk, I can smell your breath from over here". 
Delia smiled warmly and looked up at her father who gave her a nod of approval. 
"I'm confused though, why are there 7 seats here," Meiying whispered into Delia's ear. 
A complicated expression flashed on Delia's full features before they were interrupted by the whooshing of one 6 doors opening. 
Clapping resounded from the door. Dyon stood with his hands clasped together, clearly dressed much too informally. His dress shirt flowed behind him and his crisp white shirt clung to his lean torso as he strolled into the room towards Delia's table without a care in the world. 
His voice sounded through the quiet hall, "I didn't open the door earlier because I didn't want to interrupt such a spectacular performance. Why didn't you tell me you could get even more beautiful?"
Dyon stopped in front of Delia and Meiying before he grabbed Delia's hand and placed her identity card within it. 
Dyon let go as his eyes flashed with interest when he looked over at the beautiful Asian girl holding onto Delia. 
"Wow, you have beautiful friends too," Dyon's laughter filled the hall as if oblivious to the pressure that was building on the stage behind him. 
Back in the control room Libro shook his head, "A monster… simply a monster."

"You're too arrogant."

To Dyon, it seemed as though these words were heard all the time.

However, how could these people possibly know of all his hard work? Of the fact that sleep was but a distant relative of his. How could they know that he never had a single moment to rest. 

And yet, despite their ignorance, they still said, "you're too arrogant..."

But where were those people when a five-year-old Dyon's eyes shone looking at a computer screen filled with code? Where were those people when an eight-year-old Dyon played his piano and plucked his guitar strings until his fingers bled... needing to vent his feelings about his lost mother without bothering his fatigued father? Where were those people when Dyon sat alone at ten-years-old… when his parents were gone, and the only thing left was a room filled with inventions and computers?

Dyon's arrogance wasn't borne of thin air. It was his hard work. It was his shield. And he wasn't willing to give it up...

Now alone, he left his home behind. 

He was no longer the boy genius who changed the human mortal realm. He was now nothing but a commoner, a bug noble families saw fit to step on. An insignificant existence. 

And yet, Dyon was still the same unchanging person. Standing tall, his eyes firm and his will indomitable.  

This so-called Martial World would come to understand the meaning behind his existence...

Dyon smiled, 'it seems like she's been watching from afar for a long time… it must be lonely being in that room with Libro all the time.'

Dyon felt a delicate hand playing with his collar, "the truth is that I'm always playing the gentle big sister role, mostly because I have no idea how much longer I'll have the chance to…"
