As they were transferred our protagonist, John Kaiser, was the sole student among his classmates who were left behind, leaving him all alone in their classroom.

As he was wondering what happened to the others, he remembered one of the novels he had read. It was a story of a fantasy world, where a king of a human kingdom summons heroes from another world to save their world from the demon king, a typical Isekai (Another World)  fantasy novel.

Our protagonist, John Kaiser, started to contemplate and question 'why?' why was he the only one not summoned?

And as his questions go crazy, a light emerges from the place where he was sitting.

Is this the start of our protagonist's fantasy adventure as a hero? Or will he live the same life again as an average person even in another world?

After the appearance of the Focus Tower, something changed in the world, wild magic and monsters run amok, interrupting the idyllic life many had known, but it is what follows that surprised the world, word of life after death spread by those who climbed the towers. For whenever a person dies, their soul is transported to the entrance of the Focus Tower.  Everyone is told the same thing by the overlooking reapers if they can reach the top, their lives will be renewed and they can live again.

"Everything in life is a trade-off. You give up one thing to get another and you can't have it all. Accept that." (Eldri, 60)

In our 20s we have a lot of dreams. We believe that we have all of the time in the world. I myself remember having illusions that my website would be my first career of many. Little did I know that it took the better part of a decade to even get competent at this. And now that I'm competent and have a major advantage and love what I do, why would I ever trade that in for another career?

"In a word: focus. You can simply get more done in life if you focus on one thing and do it really well. Focus more." (Ericson, 49)

✿ Magis | Master practitioner of a magic skill

✿ Magism | Laws and codes of conduct in applying magic derived from The Sacred Word.

✿ Mana | A person's natural ability for magic casting. It comes from a secret organ near the heart and the size of a pea at its largest. The larger the mana organ, the more the person has to invoke magic.

✿ Chi | A living person or creature's energy and life force. Note that undead creatures don't produce their own chi but exist on borrowing from the living.

✿ The Sacred Word | Is the all-time book of magic and history, passed down and expanded from Grand Magis to another and stored within Gat Shiem. It contains every manner of known spells, knowledge of belief systems, religious text, rituals and prophesies. It's a one stop shop outline for everything in Sol.

✿ Grand Magis/Shuso | Head Monk of Gat Shiem and the Head of Sol Magis community. All laws and code of conduct for magic use is passed down to factions through the Gat Shiem Head Chain.

✿ Gat Shiem | Magic headquarters and also a place where magic is the purest. A lot of senior magis end up taking a life long calling at Gat Shiem to master the ways of The Sacred Word and Cakra Magic.

Magic Skills

✿ Force | Transmutation, transformation and telekinesis type of magic

✿ Elemental | Able to use the elements of the world to summon a desired result (e.g call Fire, Wind, Earth, Water)

✿ Semblance | Telepathy, illusions, mental imagery, enchantments, soul trapping and binding. There are objects that can be bound with a form of Semblance spell that doesn't require the User to be adept in the skill, but they have the sufficient mana to sustain the magic.

✿ Cakra | Using the power of self to call upon a result. It requires the wisdom of a Magis to be able to summon the mana power within. Derived from Chakra.

Crown = Tapping into the mind to bring out a result. Side effect is either concussion or amnesia.

Eye = Focusing on the inner eye to reach a desired destination. Side effect is damage to the Caster's eyes, usually temporary.

Throat = Focusing on the throat to call truth, silence or invoke spells that require the sound of voice to produce a result. Side effect, nasty form of a laryngitis and possible damage to the tonsils.

Heart = The most dangerous of all Cakra magic where a person focus on the power of their love to restore the chi of another at the moment of their death. Side effect - cost is the giving of life of the Caster. The more traumatic the death, the more focus is needed and the Caster's life can be sacrificed in the process. A lot of hiras have this ability naturally.

Solar Plexus = Focuses on feelings in the gut to restore chi-health to another. Side effect - vomiting, constipation, re flux, hernias and other mild stomach complications.

Sacral = Transcendence into another time and space (form of time travel). Astral projection. It's rarely used. A Magis would have studied The Sacred Word for many years to understand the process of use. Generally, only skilled Monks trained at Gat Shiem have this ability. An exception is the one and only family who are genetically skilled. Side Effect - being stuck in the travelled time and space. Not able to reattach the soul back to the body. The current body is open to being a meat suit for formless demons to enter into.

Root = Generally known that only Gat Shiem's Shuso had the ability to use this power. It involved the temporary creation of time and space in parallel to one that existed.  It seems some magis and demons may have this ability. To evoke this power is usually at the cost of the casters own body.   The typical output of the power are Dimension Slips.

✿Talisman Magic | Uses the chanting of a passage from The Sacred Word to invoke a result. Generally to temporarily close off or open a way to somewhere or thing.

It's a form of magic that can be used by low level mana Casters since the magic is bound to strips of blessed paper with a spell (typically protection) written on it, and called upon when the correct passage from The Sacred Word is spoken.

Focus.
Yes, it's such a simple thing But even if it sounds simple it's still very difficult to learn.
For ordinary people to completely concentrate without any distraction and focus on just a single object would be hard.
But when they could do it then that would give birth to a very different feeling.
This is the so-called "rhythm of everything".
"In a state of absolute focus on the sword and absolute focus on the object to cut would reveal a different kind of power from the same strike."
Roja looked at the sword while remembering the word from the book.
The book was compiled from all the books of the Marine database there must be numerous people who did read and found it easy to understand.
But understanding it is something and executing it is something else as it's hard to concentrate without getting distracted by anything.
Many swordsmen after several years or even decade of continuous training could finally enter this state.
This state will be enough to block the road of countless swordsmen.
"Focus?"
Roja looked at the content of the book and tried reading it again and closed his eyes after a moment and placed the book to the side.
In general, Most swordsmen will need to keep swinging the sword countless times until they can concentrate on it without any distractions.
But Roja felt that doing it won't be necessary.
"A heart without distraction … "
Roja closed his eyes and murmured in his heart and began to adjust his breathing and thought.
Roja was different than ordinary people he died once and come to this world and his soul could be said to be on a different level than ordinary souls.
And with this power, he could approach that state really fast and could control his thought with force.
In the beginning.
Roja forced his line of thought but still encountered many difficulties as a lot of ideas kept jumping out in his mind and continued to interfere with him.
But Roja little by little made those ideas disappear.
Gradually he didn't know when it started but his heart begins to become focused.
In silence, Roja opened his eyes. A pair of clear eyes could be seen. There wasn't even a trace of distraction.
Everything between heaven and earth is silent the only thing he could hear is his own heartbeat.
This is a very strange state.
This isn't state of a daze because he could clearly observe his surroundings as he was fully conscious of what he's doing but there wasn't any complicated thought jumping in his mind.
 
 
"This is the heart without distraction the completely empty state?"
After entering this state Roja Heart was filled with surprise But he soon calmed down.
This is not a normal "Focused" state but an ethereal state extended from the other.
Roja began to try with his mind completely focused on the objects beside him. It seemed faint but he was able to hear the table, chairs, cups and the ground breathing.
"Is this that state?"
Roja suddenly doubted because this state and the description are somewhat similar.
In his heart, an explicable feeling arose. This state is the realm of swordmasters and it seems really powerful.
This state gives the user a domineering feeling to him.
However, Roja couldn't get this feeling from Garp But he knew that Garp knows this state. It shows that he glimpsed at the first level of the swordmaster realm.
"Focus."
Roja's eyes looked at his sword.
He gently pulled Honoo no Tsuki and then picked up a piece of paper and threw it on the air.
"If I want the sword to cut something then I cut it, if I don't want the sword to cut something then it won't cut it  … try it"
Roja mind focused on the piece of paper sliding in the air while holding his sword in his hand.
The next moment Roja suddenly waved and a sound burst out through the air with the sharp sword in his hands and hit the paper.
The paper … wasn't cut.
wanting to cut a plain paper is naturally a simple thing but wanting to use a sword to hit a paper without cutting it That was the realm his looking for.
"This is it."
To see his own sword fall on the paper and did not damage it a bit. Roja's eye flashed with a ray of light and got out of the focused state.
"Is it this simple?"
He put his sword back into his scabbard Roja looked at the piece of paper and suddenly shook his head "No, I was in a completely quiet place so I could enter that state."
"But it won't be easy to maintain this state while in battle."
Thinking to here Roja eyes cleared.
Sure enough his way to force out his thought through his soul power is feasible
want to comprehend this state normally you will have to train for days and days until you could gradually become one with the sword and finally comprehend and control this state.
And another kind of method is this special method Roja used. This method was stated in the book but most people couldn't use it.
Roja was suitable to use that method.
"Then the next thing is to try and enter this state at will in any place then it will be stable."
"It still feels too simple."

Excruciating pain. That was all Astasha had felt.
She knew Cal had sworn to save her, knew he would do everything he could to keep his word, but by the time Errant had locked her in the tower under more magical protections than she could imagine, her soul hurt at the thought of how he would torture himself for not being able to do so.
She hadn't fought it when they came for her. Not even when they stripped her of her clothing and restrained her on the cold stone table. All she kept telling herself was that her sweet prince was safe and that he wouldn't have to see this.
Astasha had resigned herself to simply lay there, eyes closed, until death took her. But when she heard his voice, her heart broke into a million pieces. He couldn't be there. She didn't want him to witness this.
There was no denying the fact that she was afraid, but seeing his face made her horrified. Why had they let him come?
She tried to focus on his eyes, she wanted them to be the last thing she would see. When the blade had come down to her chest he had called out to her and she tried to tell him she loved him. But then pain had erupted in her chest.
She had hoped she would lose consciousness and it would be over, but the darkness never came, and suddenly something was happening. There were worried voices around her. Cal's voice broke through them all, she couldn't tell what he was saying but she could feel his presence, and then his hand on hers. The sensation that came over her was nothing she had felt before, like a string was tied inside of her, pulling towards him.
And then darkness.
There was only darkness; darkness, and a sinister presence. She didn't know what it was or where it was coming from, but it was there.
And then she heard the voice and her fear spiked.
"Finally. I've been dying to have a word with you, my precious Tasha."
The demon.
This had to be death.
"You aren't dead if that's what you're wondering. Which is good, because I have much suffering to repay you for."
Death would have been better.
The only thing that made sense to Astasha is that when she had lost consciousness, she had slipped into the trap in which she held the demon within her.
"I luckily haven't encountered many demons in my life, but I can imagine you're sore losers."
She knew it wasn't wise to feed into his malice, but she needed to know if the trap still held.
The cackle that responded was not a good sign.
"Oh, you sweet sorceress. Do you think I've lost? This is only the beginning."
Questions started spinning in her mind, but she needed to focus on the most important one first.
"It doesn't seem like much of a beginning to anything with you trapped inside here with me."
"It's only a matter of time before I break down your barriers, fire witch. And then, the real fun can begin. I wonder what I should do first? Perhaps I'll make you watch as I rip the flesh piece by piece off your lover's body."
She wanted to turn the thing to ash, but at least she knew it was still stuck.
"I'd like to see you try."
A growl responded. "Perhaps after that, I'll finish what we started in the woods, only this time, I'll be the one riding you while you're covered in blood."
Astasha forced herself to not think about the demon's words, to focus.
"I don't think you'll be doing either demon. I outsmarted you once, I can do it again. You messed up when you showed me how to harness power like that. And with Calder free, I won't be repulsed the next time. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'll quite enjoy the process of destroying you." It was her turn to toy with him.
"You know nothing about power. I gave you a taste. The power I could have taught you to unleash if you had set me free would have made you a Goddess amongst men. But no matter, there will be another."
He was trying to fuck with her again. "There won't ever be another opportunity to escape. I'll kill myself before I allow that."
Another cackle. "Oh I will watch you die, one way or another, but opportunity was not what I spoke of. It's a pity really, though. I think she would have liked you."
Why did he keep saying things as if he wasn't supposed to? She knew everything he said was to mess with her. It was time to mess back. "Whoever she is, if she's working with a demon, I'll be glad not to meet her."
"That choice was never yours."
Something felt wrong. The pieces to the puzzle she didn't know she was putting together kept falling and she desperately tried to piece them together. What was it playing at? Why was it telling her these things? Who was this woman it now spoke of and what choice didn't Astasha have?
She needed to find the answers yet she knew she needed to get back, to regain consciousness and know what was happening in the world around her. There were still so many questions she hadn't even begun to realize she had about what had taken place before the darkness had taken her.
Why had they stopped the ritual? Was Calder alright?
"I'm done playing your games demon." She finally said. "Either speak frankly or don't speak at all."
"Oh, but you're just too much fun to play with. No matter though, I'll have plenty of time to play with you soon enough."
It was just trying to scare her, to loosen the bonds within her. She needed to wake up, to reinforce them and keep it subdued.
She searched for the power within herself to draw herself back, but there was none there. It was taking everything not to panic, not to feed into the demon's mind games and lose herself.
A tugging began, somewhere within her soul, and she remembered the feeling, just before she had lost consciousness, like a string, pulling her towards Calder.
She took hold of it and pulled back.
A whisper rushed through her ear, a simple word, 'Tasha'. It was faint and distant, but she knew where it came from.
"Cal."
She heard the demon cackling and she tugged harder on whatever it was tieing her to her love.
Calder's voice became clearer, and the darkness began to fade. "Come back to me my love. Please."
"Enjoy your time with your precious Prince, Tasha. I'll be seeing you soon."

"Tasha..."

She turned. He was right behind her and they stood so close that she could smell him. It was intoxicating. She hadn't realized how much she had loved the smell of him until having gone without it for so long.

"We can't be here for long, people will start to wonder-"

"You have no idea how much I missed you." He stepped even closer to her. She was almost holding her breath. "I thought about you every day. You're even more beautiful than I remember." He reached up and ran his hand through the hair that framed her face, her eyes closing involuntarily at his touch.

"Calder, you know we can't." She had had every intention of simply getting him alone to speak with him, to search inside him while he opened up to her, but her mind was having a hard time focusing and all she wanted was to feel more of his touch.

"I spent five years with nothing to keep me going through the hardest trials of my life but the thought of seeing you again," his hand touched her cheek. "holding you in my arms, kissing you." His thumb trailed across her lips and every fiber of her being felt like it would burst into flame. His eyes, like the ocean, looked into her soul, his body standing over her, so close she could feel the heat of him, and it made her yearn for more.

"Please, it's forbidden." Her voice was barely a whisper.

He looked at her for a moment, taking her in, his eyes searching over her lips that were slightly open, her eyes that danced with flames of desire. "I don't care."

Now she finds herself in the service of the king as the fire witch of his Royal Magic Advisory, and in love with his son, the one true heir to the throne. The silent Association Head office was filled with a gentle flashing light as Ryu reappeared once more.
The Association Head sensed this and snorted. "It hasn't even been a few hours yet but you already failed? Isn't that too pathetic? What a waste of Qi Stones. I'm sure you can see your way out, correct?"
He didn't even bother to look up from his papers.
Ryu's head turned toward the older man whose head was buried in a stack of papers. "Esteemed Association Head, with your lofty position, you're likely the only one in the Alchemy Association capable of awarding Valor Honor Cards, correct?"
"Listen, you annoying brat. Get the hell out of my office. I don't care for your worthless flattery."
"I'm not intentionally trying to disturb you. I only meant to say that since I'm here already, I thought I should ask you to handle the procedures."
The Association Head finally looked upward, a vein of anger pulsing through his wrinkled forehead, but what he found were piercing silver eyes that lacked even more patience. They were a pair of silver eyes that filled him with a cold and irrational fear.
It was then that the Association Head noticed. Right there, on the left side of Ryu's chest, a badge forged of black steel. However, it wasn't just any badge. Etched across the top of its shield-like structure was a vine of holding small leaves and delicate flower drawings. It was the badge of an herbologist!
'F-four stars…' The Association Head blinked, not believing his eyes. "Who are you?"
"Esteemed Association Head, can you fulfill my request, or must I ask someone else?" The monotone inflections of Ryu's voice didn't change. It was as though he hadn't heard the Association Head's questions at all.
"O-of course." The Association Head calmed himself. Just under three hours had passed since Ryu had disappeared, but the herbology exam was known for taking several days to complete. This wasn't under normal circumstances, of course. It was just that the youth exam was particularly special. However, not only had Ryu reappeared in less than three hours, he came back with the credentials of a Peak Black Grade Herbologist. The Association Head would be a fool if he didn't understand he had made a mistake.
The process of receiving his Valor Honor Card went quickly. Ryu didn't say another word to the Association Head, nor did he need to. Identity treasures like an herbologist badge or the Valor Honor Card were tied to an individual's qi signature. Unless one had a rare technique capable of perfect replication of another person, it was impossible to fake. Of course, nothing was infallible. But, for now, Ryu was fine.
Ryu made his way back to Molly. So he didn't have to waste time listening to her console him about his apparent "failure", he directly placed his Valor Honor Card on the reception desk before she could utter a word. However, it seemed he underestimated just the level of value this card had…
The whole of the Alchemy Association seemed to come to a grinding halt as dozens of pairs of eyes trained on a singular piece of metal cutout shimmering with violet colors and holographic weapons. Soon, those eyes shifted from the card to its owner.
Ryu's presence was completely different with his eyes opened. Even with Ailsa's shroud, he still appeared untouchable to many. Ryu's face had already been etched into the minds of many.
Molly, a mere receptionist, was surprisingly the first to recover as she slowly handed Ryu a memory jade filled with their Association's inventory. She sighed inwardly, it seemed her intuition was correct. She could only imagine her grandfather's feelings after he was forced to hand this card to Ryu.
'Why did he have his eyes closed previously? And why did he decide to open them now?' Though she thought this, Molly had her own guesses. Much like her grandfather, she knew the importance the eyes had for herbologists. Low ranking Spiritual Senses weren't good enough to pick up on all the small details an herbologist's eyes had to. So, Molly thought that maybe Ryu was forced to rely on his eyes during the exam and gave up whatever Spiritual Sense training he was doing before that.
'The selection here isn't amazing, but it will do.' Ryu ignored the eyes floating around him, focusing entirely on the inventory list that appeared in his mind. Not only did he need cultivation herbs for qi, the body and the mind, he also needed something he could use to ensure that he had no more hidden injuries.
"I will take fifty stocks each of Qi Cleansing Leaf, Blood Boiling Stem, and Mind Calming Leaf. In addition, I'll take a hundred dosages each of Revitalizing Petal and Vital Tree Essence, plus a log of Seeking Wood."
Molly's lip twitched, but she still went ahead with her duties.
Qi Cleansing Leaf helped prep and prime one's Qi for their next Revolution. It was excellent for accelerating qi accumulation and greatly shortened the time between Revolutions.
Blood Boiling Stem was an auxiliary herb meant to be used along with beast blood and Spiritual Roots. It was placed into the collected blood and acted as a catalyst that made absorbing the latent Vital Qi far easier. It made for smoother body cultivation.
Mind Calming Leaf allowed one to focus on Visualization for longer periods of time and thus aided Mental Realm cultivation. There were two important aspects to Mental Realm cultivation. One was of course accumulating Spiritual Qi. This directly influenced everything from how powerful and far reaching one's Spiritual Sense was, to how long one could sustain Meditation States or one's Natural Orders. However, the second aspect was just as important and touched upon the same factors. It was known as Focus Qi.
Focus Qi was exactly what it sounded like. It referred to a martial warrior's capacity for focus. How long they could spend meditating, how long they could spend in seclusion, or even how long they could maintain the sharpness of their attacks in battle. Though it was called Focus Qi, there was no empirical way to measure one's Focus. It could only be improved with time and meditation. Mind Calming Leaf essentially artificially increased Focus for a small period of time.
All of Revitalizing Petal, Vital Tree Essence and Seeking Wood were related to Ryu's body recovery. Cultivation was important, but recovery was equally if not more important.
Revitalizing Petal resembled rose petals and were meant to be diluted in large baths of hot water. Seeking Wood was what Ryu planned on building these baths with as they were able to seek and pull away impurities naturally. Finally, Vital Tree Essence would be the hot water Ryu used in this equation. It referred to the deep root water taken from the Vital Tree, a spiritual tree known for little else but its ridiculously long lifespan. It was said a mortal could gain a hundred years of life drinking its Vital Essence.
However, all of these things obviously came with an extremely exaggerated price…
Molly coughed slightly. "That'll be 30 600 000 gold…"
