As he said that, a catalog of various outfits and body modification settings suddenly appeared in my vision.

[This is cool. Let's see here… wow, they got everything!]

It was the most sophisticated customization feature I've seen in a game. I can change my race, age, gender and physical features in the most detailed way possible.

I opened the slider for my age. 

The number was currently in my early 20's, so I slid it up to the late 20's.

As I did, I felt a gradual change in my body. In a matter of seconds, I grew at least ten inches in height and a new beard instantly grew on my face. 

It was a completely new sensation for me. It's as if I had somehow transformed into another person.

I began feeling my beard with my hands. It was fuzzy.

[Virtual reality is awesome.]

I said with a deep voice that seemed to be not mine.

I see. This is how I'm going to sound like a few years from now.

In terms of character customization, the game's possibilities are endless.

There were other sliders too that I could use if I wanted to customize my avatar in a more detailed manner, but somehow, becoming my older self seemed to appeal to me, so I left it as it is.

Next, I opened the outfits category. Hundreds of holograms of outfits began to rotate around me.

It seems like I can choose from millions of pre-existing starter getups. I can even recognize some outfits here that originated from popular TV anime series and movies. That, or I can simply make my own.

As for my case I'll just pick something simple.

I picked a black adventurer's armor set with a hood and a symbol of a skull etched in it. As for my hands, I wore a simple fingerless glove with a built-in knuckles. As for my feet, I decided to pick something different: modern running shoes used by track-and-field athletes. 

I looked at myself in the mirror. My clothes made me look like a hybrid of a standard anime protagonist and an assassin. It definitely does not look bad at all.

[This will do.] 

I said to myself proudly.

The mechanics of <Crusaders of Kraniel> is the same as most RPG games. However, it seems that the player character is not confined with one class only. Thus, potentially, I can switch between being a soldier, or an archer or a paladin, or whatever occupation that exists in this world.

Plus, it doesn't look like there is a point system in <Crusaders of Kraniel>. After all, game mechanics like damage points, Health Points, Mana Points and the such are seen as outdated features in the realm of VR.

What the latest VR games actually do is simple: mimic reality itself. That's right. If you get stabbed or punched, it will hurt. You'll get incapacitated. Blood will flow out of your wound, and if the amount of blood becomes exceedingly low, you die.

If you want to be good with any weapon, you must practice it just like in real life. You want to be good with the sword? Learn the basics first then work your way up top until you can learn advanced sword techniques. You want to learn magic? You must first feel the mana inside you and harness it. Only then you can practice the art of magic. 

Every skill in this world is unique for every player. You don't understand in detail how your magic attack works, but you can do it like flexing your own muscle to punch.

Like the game has advertised, the possibilities are endless, but not all possibilities can be reached by an average human.

[You are now ready, Crusader Saruquin. It has been five thousand years since I intervened in the affairs of my mortal creations. Since then, the skies have been quiet. There is no telling how the mortals would react when the skies shall thunder again at your descent.]

Kraniel then recited an unknown language. It took at least a minute. All of a sudden, the room shook and morphed violently into an incomprehensible form. 

[Wha-!?]

The gravity around me was going crazy as I instantly lost my orientation and balance. Everything around me was getting more transparent and blurry, well, except Kraniel himself.

[Fulfill your duty, Crusader, and good luck.] 

He said to me one last time, then my vision was enveloped by a bright beam of light.

The year is 2257 A.D, and humans have colonized much of the solar system. 

A former high schooler and pro gamer named Clay Crassius has since retired after a fatal car accident that not only killed his whole family, but damaged both of his eyes. Little did Clay know the other miraculous feature of this game: when you play, any missing senses will be temporarily restored.

The silence in the room freaked Yuria out and she started to pout, „How long do you going to take?"

„Yeah, I'm coming!"

*creak*

The door opened and a view of multiple dresses stood in exhibition in his arms. She was honestly surprised of how many clothes he possessed and needed to ask this question on her mind, „Why..or better, how did you come to the idea of buying so many dresses?" 

Enzu placed the dresses on the free couch and gazed at Yuria by curiosity. He understood the actual meaning behind the question and hastily shook his hands, „It's not what you think!"

Yuria placed her index finger on her chin and narrowed her eyebrows, „If it's not, then why would you buy them, living al-"

Enzu rushed to her and closed her mouth with his right hand, „You got the wrong idea!"

Yuria pinched his right hand and he released his grip, „Then explain yourself!"

Enzu stared at Yuria with unusual seriousness.

„Have you ever watched anime or read mangas?"

„Umm..not really. It wasn't really interesting for me, but my husband loves them. He watches time to time new animes and reads sometimes mangas."

„You got a great husband!"

Yuria lowered her eyebrows and annoyingly said, „Can you get back to the topic?"

„Oh, yeah. Animes and mangas weren't for me just entertainment, they were there for me, every time I needed someone and those anime waifus always caught my eyes, no matter what. Well, I found out about cosplay on reddit and couldn't hold my excitement back, but how could I?"

Yuria's mind was relieved of hearing his explanation and sighed. If he had be such a weird person, then she really couldn't believe, doing it with him anymore.

„Let me have a look!"

Yuria moved to the couch, that was filled with multiple dresses and she was stunned of the amount.

There was one with a blue plaid mini skirt, pair of white stockings and a white top with a red ribbon. 

One outfit caught her eye and that looked similar to her work clothes. She was stunned of the similarities and asked Enzu, „I thought they had be anime outfits..?"

Enzu's eyes widened and he coughed once, „I lost my control.."

„Hehe.."

Yuria had to chuckle and the outfit contained of a black tight mini pencil skirt, pair of black stockings and a white blouse.

The outfits continued on and with each time, it get's more revealing.

One outfit was a pink dress, that only covered the waist and chest area, but showed the breasts with a heart-shaped cleavage. It also had fluffy pink cat ears and fluffy white cat palms.

The other was an black maid outfit and one shocked Yuria completely.

„Isn't this skirt short..?"

„Oh, you got the one from Lucy of Fairy Tail!"

It was a black mini skirt with a white belt, only covering barely her buttocks and thong, combined with black knee socks and a short top, revealing her breasts almost completely, while her stomach wasn't covered a bit.

„That really suits you!"

'What should I do??? I can't stop watching anime!! I know I shouldn't, but I can't stop watching "adult" anime either!! I gotta stop before I get hooked. 'I...! I'll distract myself! Yes, that'll work for now. Let's see.... I suppose I should start preparing a few things for the Alca boy, I has already been 1,364 years since he went into hibernation after all. He'll probably wake up soon. It's amazing he's slept this long.'

Moving her hands up, a human male avatar begins to appear. It currently has no features and is on the level of a manikin for now.


'Let's see.... Knowing his personality, I should probably make him edgy to start. Coal black hair, very sharp, edgy facial structure...' (A.N. Like the cover picture, but after she's finished, imagine him with the looks to meet a goddess' standards. Too much?)


The goddess being in the zone, forgets her original goal before long, and is simply designing her ideal man.


This goes on for a five short years before she's finally satisfied, and is left laying on a bed she made, staring and drooling at the avatar she created.


'Why was I making this again..? OH! Right! Alca's new body! Damn, if I leave it like this any and every woman in his new world will probably drool at just a glance at him... Eh, why not. I don't think he'd hate it right? ....He probably will, but him being popular is a part of my plan, so it's fine!' With a mischievous smile of satisfaction, she moves on from the subject. 


'Well at least I distracted myself from all that 'corrupting' anime and Hentai for a bit. Though I do miss it... Maybe just another peek? I do have access to ALL anime, from every dimension and time period. May as well take advantage...'


And so the goddess winds up spending another 1000+ years watching anime, and getting off to Hentai of all kinds. She branched out eventually and also started manga, light novels, and fanfic binges, along with all of their hentai, porn, or 18+ alternatives.


On year 2,739 of hibernation, she finally gave in and reluctantly (proudly) accepted the title of 'Weeb Goddess.' Cos playing was easy, as she could will whatever she wanted into her dimension, so anything she needed to create the costumes was at her fingertips. She could have just willed the outfits directly into the realm instead of creating them, or simply altered her appearance directly to look like the characters she wanted, but where's the fun in that?


During that time, many anime waifus could be seen guiding the souls appearing in her dimension to wherever the were meant to go. Her Cos playing habits wound up with her looking like all her favorite characters, and provided more entertainment when the souls found out the 'Goddess of Reincarnation' was Asuna, or Sakura, Zero, as well as hundreds of millions of other characters from many different universes of anime(and hentai).


She had enough sense at least, to not cosplay the raunchy forms of any characters, but she still had plenty of fun. She checked on Alca ever few years or so, she was stunned every time, before eventually getting accustomed after the 1,500 year point. He was just too exhausted!


She decided on a through investigation of the depths of his soul, but she figured it would be best to keep away from his memories. He'd likely be pissed (and the biggest reason, really annoying to deal with) if he found out. She got distracted however and never actually got around to doing it. 


She, being a total weeb would always wind up saying one more episode, one more chapter, one more orga- *AHEM!* recreational activity, and kept putting it off.


By now she had mostly forgotten about Alca and was only reminded every once in awhile, by the avatar she left around and did "recreational activities" while looking at it, fantasizing. She knew he'd be fine and patiently waited for his soul to recover.

After reaching that conclusion she had already gone back to watching anime and junk. She eventually remembered she also has to decide on the wishes he would get, and occasionally spends time thinking about it. 


Before she realizes MANY more years begin to tick by...

Thaddeus (wiping Twinkle's face): You got cake on your face

We first went to the City Square and ate some street foods like a delicious takoyaki from a stand here and those amazing ice cream crepe from one of those ice cream crepe trucks.
We even took pictures from a mascot of a ramen shop that's advertising in the streets. It was a cute red cat with a blue tip on its tail. It's also wearing a large round bell, but it's just there for design.
Our next stop is this small anime store that I didn't know existed in a small alley in the City Square. Juwan told us that this place has been here ever since he moved here and that he buys here whenever he has money. Right now, we're the only people here and the manager who is behind the cash register.
"This place is awesome!" Hanzo seems excited. "I didn't know that this place existed."
"Yeah," Juwan was browsing through the figurines and action figures of different anime characters. "I was walking down the street when I was a poster on the ground, saying that this place is open. At that time, this shop was like, newly opened, around three days after opening, I think."
"Ahh, so you were like, their first customer?" I asked. I'm browsing through the section of the blade and wow, there are a lot of different blades here. Ranging to throwables like shurikens, kunai, throwing knives, to wield-types like a katana, long sword, and even a replica of the Excalibur, which looks real. I touched the tip of the kunai, and it was pointy, I almost pierced my finger.
Juwan picked up a muscled action figure with a color scheme of yellow, red, and blue. "You could say that."
"Yeah, if it wasn't for this guy, my shop wouldn't have customers," The manager, who looks like he's in his early thirties, said.
"Oh, guys, by the way, this is Toshi," He points at the manager. "He's the who started and runs this store."
Toshi smiles and waves. "Nice to meet you guys!"
Hanzo and I introduced ourselves. "Nice to meet you too, Mr. Toshi!" We both said as we bow.
He waved a hand at us. "What's with the formality? Just call me Toshi!"
I laugh. "Okay, Toshi."
As Juwan and Hanzo geek out about their favorite superhero anime, I was browsing through the collection of manga next to the counter. The genres don't seem to be arranged in order "Hmmm, Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Romance, Paranormal"
I began to read off genres that don't seem familiar to me. "Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen, Shounen-ai, Shoujo-ai, Slice of Life, Yaoi, Yuri, Ecchi, Harem, He-"
"Hey there, looking for a read?" Toshi loudly interrupted my browsing, but in a friendly manner.
"Oh, not really," I replied. "I'm not really into manga or anime, but maybe I should try one."
"Hmm," He grabbed a manga from the Shoujo section. "Try reading this."
"Hmm?" I took the manga and in the cover is a pink and sparkly background with five girls in fireman outfits of different colors, striking different poses, and some of them have disproportionate… features….
I read the title of the manga. "Shoujo Fire Squad…."
"Yeah," Toshi says. "They are a group of girls who are firewomen who use their abilities to take out fire, rescue civilians, and take out the bad guys."
"Interesting.." Yes, the plot was…. interesting. I've never heard of a concept like this before.
"This manga has it all!" Toshi adds. "Action, drama, romance, a hint of mystery, and for a plus, cute girls with big-"
"Personalities!" Juwan approaches us. "Which we know is important in doing their duties and responsibilities as firewomen."
He has a hand in the back of his head. "By the way, Hanzo is calling you."
"Oh, okay," I gave the manga back to Toshi. "Thanks for the recommendation!"
As I walk away, I hear them talk.
"Jeez, Toshi," Juwan says in a slightly high tone as if he was scolding someone. "Stop corrupting the mind of every customer who enters here that's not that much into manga and anime! Control yourself, man!"
Toshi let out a peal of nervous laughter. "Sorry, I got pretty excited."
"This is why you have fewer customers than before, Toshi."
Ahh, I knew it was something dirty. Well, I don't mind. Though I think I will look into that manga because the concept is interesting and probably unique.
"Ah, Kazu," Hanzo got up looking from a basket full of training card packs. "I found these!"
He showed me a pack of training cards that I loved so much since I was in elementary.
"Beast Pockets!" I took the pack from Hanzo's hand. "This is the limited edition pack with legendary beast cards! I've been searching for these since high school!"

"I have watched every single episode from 1998 up to the latest season."
I was still amazed at the card pack. This pack is limited time only and there are legendary SSR beast cards there. I don't know how there are still that exist even though these came out like, two years ago.
"You know what, since you tagged along, I'll buy that card as a treat for you."
I looked at Hanzo, feeling like one of those anime characters where their eyes sparkle or something. "Really?"
"Sure!"
I hugged him tightly. "Thank you thank you thank you so much!"
"You're we-lco-me…" I quickly let go of him because he was unable to breathe.
"Sorry." I chuckle.
He laughs, a hand behind his head.
As I look at the pack of cards, I felt a presence somewhere around this area. I don't know why, but this presence feels uncomfortable. That sense is emitting from the window of the store as if someone was watching us, but there was nothing.
Hanzo places a hand on my shoulder. "Kazu, you alright?"
I slightly shake my head, trying to remove the unease I was feeling. "Oh, yeah! I'm fine."
"Okay, if you say so…" Hanzo continues to look for merch.
I continue to admire the card pack, trying to shake off the feeling of unease.

After death, the souls of the departed are guided by beings to either Heaven or Hell. But what if one day, souls are unable to ascend or descend because of their lack of peace even after life?

Kazu Shinoaki, an 18-year old university student used to see ghosts when he was young. After an encounter with a mysterious building, he was able to see ghosts again.

Because of this, he was hired by Hotel Asphodel, a hotel where ghosts stay until they find peace.

His job is to help the souls find peace so they can either ascend or descend Heaven or Hell.
