The whole point of the novel is about magic and staying somewhat lowkey unless there is some type mind type skill where he can do that, there is no chance the pressure skill can exist. There is also the fact that 'bloodlust' exists which is essentially the same thing.
'Samantha Hall… when did she get behind me?' he thought, though he swept away his sight from them for a minute, he didn't think she'd approach him much less ask for a dance!
