As the mist that veiled most of What happens in the forest slowly parted, two beings appeared.
One was tall with light armour covering it, while the other was short with only some slightly torn pants as clothes. The smaller creature rested on the taller's shoulder. From it's reddened leg, it could be easily deduced why.
Of course, these two were the survivors of the kobold chase that occurred the night before. After narrowly escaping from the kobold leader with some diverting tactics and some lung tearing running, the two were finally safe. But the night afterwards was not necessarily smooth. As the two had to take a long detour just to get back, they way back home turned into a journey they wished to never walk again.
But their restless and tiring night was all worth It, as they finally made it back.
The sight of the blue and slightly luminous water was a marvel the gremlin would have like to see had its nose not been blocked by remnant pollen from last night. The two hob-goblins that had just been ordered by the child to help came from the flashing portal.
They helped the tired hob-goblin and carried both the bag and the gremlin.
Soon enough, the three arrived in the dungeon. The moment they entered, the child didn't waste time an ordered them to dump both the injured and the dead inside the core.
So the child could immediately heal both the gremlin and hobgoblin. In no time, the two were completely healed. The sprain on the gremlin's leg disappeared while the hob-goblin's fatigue was no more.
With both the two completely healed, he ordered them to rest. while the little kobold corpse was left inside.
As the child's ether slowly seeped into every pore and flowed between every cell, the child got a full three dimensional view of the kobolds body.
Be the blood, the digestive or reproductive system, all was perfectly laid out in the child's view. And apon such a sight, the child was really amazed.
"This creature may likely be the most fascinating being other than myself i have ever seen."
From his rebirth to now, the child had seen quite a lot of creatures. Goblins, Horned rabbits, Long horned boars, four armed monkeys and dinosaur like lizards. But all of them seem to fail on something.
magic.
Each single creature up til now had absolutely not magical prowess at all. All the creatures have been using nothing but first order energy to go foward. Not one single creature has been using ether or any higher order energy.
This was not without reason, as magic is not something that can be easily acquired.
For mortals, magic can be acquired through two methods. One is through consciousness transcendence.
Consciousness transcendence is when the consciousness of a mortal being reached a certain rank, namely, rank 4. In this rank, the mortal will no longer be be considered a normal being. So their consciousness will develop something called ether magnetism.
With this, ether will gather on the consciousness until it reaches a certain level.
This gathered ether will then be called, the soul.
since the soul is made of ether, it could gather and use Ether. Thus producing a creature that can use magic.
But this process takes millions of years. Before a consciousness can reach the gathering and assimilating stage, a long time would be required to pass. The consciousness would need to pass through thousands if not millions of reincarnation and grow untill it becomes perfect.
There is another way foward though. Having a body that can actually gather ether.
Looking at the kobold in him, the child was sure that this creature is the second type.
"Ether is naturally gathering around the kobold's heart."
Well, it was able to gather in its heart, but since it has long died, that is no longer possible. The only reason the child was able to realise the kobolds uniqueness was because of his Ether affinity. Which is on a terrifying degree. And of course due to the still lingering ether in its heart.
"But how does this work? what makes this so and what does the kobold use this mana for?"
In most cases, creatures that could use Ether in such a way are not naturally born. Normally, they could be a race created to be in such a way. likely by some deity or something else. The usual method deities use to achieve this is by describing runes on a certain being. These runes would then be used as medium for magic. Thus having special effects. But in this way, the type of magic use is usually linear and not so versatile.
However, there is a other method the deities use to make magical mortals. And that is using special material to make a being. special materials may be the wood of yggdrasil or the blood of another deity. These special materials make it easy to inherit special abilities from said material.
The biggest problem with this method us that such special materials are hard to find. And in most cases, the created being will very likely have terrible fertility and a long growth span.
The greatest example would be the dragons and elves. Both are magical beings, but because of that, they have lesser likelihood of conceiving. This was because regrowing a special material is incredibly hard.
Thus making it not only harder for the species to grow, but to reproduce it as well.
"So which of these is true for the kobolds? Are they deity constructs or natural ones."
The child contemplated for a little while but he still could not get a good grasp of where these creatures could originate from. Ultimately, he shrugged off the thoughts off his mind.
"It does not matter even if they are deity constructs. Any creature that is dispatched into a low level world like this should not matter much to a deity. As long as I don't slaughter than all, I don't think I will get found out."
And even if he was found out, it was still unlikely that anyone strong would come for him. As deities are usually in their divine realms and wouldn't care less for such small worlds. The most that would come for him would probably be the overseer of his world.
And since this is a rank 1 world, the strongest anyone could barely reach in it is rank 2. Although rank 2 is strong enough to actually take him down, nothing would stop him from running.
After all, a small dungeon, is a fast dungeon. And the child is very very small.
