章 13: CHAPTER 13
JIRO's POV
"You're the best!" I heard Miyuki senpai told me with a crazed look at his face after laughing loudly.
After demonstrating that I have perfect control over my pitches it caused quite a commotion around.
There's a world of difference between a well controlled fastball and a fastball that isn't controlled like the one Furuya just pitched. There's bigger difference on it than once could imagine, you can't compare the two at all. Having control is already a weapon itself and you'll add my fastball speed to that? That's a deadly weapon for the catcher to make use of.
"Hey brat! You didn't tell me about this!" I heard Isashiki senpai shouldted at the side so I look at him with a deadpanned expression on my face -_-
"What's with that expression you brat!"
I just look at him with the same expression because he doesn't make any sense. -_-
"Can I throw other balls senpai?" I asked looking at Miyuki.
"Heyyy don't ignore me!" Isashiki senpai cried on which I pay no mind.
"You have breaking balls?" Coach kataoka asked me when he heard what I said ignoring Isashiki too.
"Yes" I told him.
"Hahaha you're really a monster full of surprises" Miyuki senpai said. "So what more can you pitch monster-kun?" The catcher said to me with a teasing smile on his face.
"Forkball and Gyroball for now" I said which shock everyone once again.
"what kind of first year is he? A fastball with 157km/h velocity that was perfectly controlled and now you're telling me he has breaking balls?"
"He's a monster among monsters"
"Yeah, that Furuya guy is already a monster himself but this guy...."
I heard some of the discussions around me but as usual I pay it no mind. I already expected it to happen in the first place.
"Call Yuki here" coach instructed someone beside him which confuses me.
'What's happening?' I thought to myself confused.
THIRD PERSON POV
When Miyuki heard what the coach just said he already has an idea on what's about to happen so he walked towards his pitcher which fascinated him greatly today.
"Wow you're really a first year?" Miyuki said jokingly when he's near Jiro.
"What kind of question is that senpai?"
"Hahaha nothing, it looks like coach wants to see you pitch on our captain" Miyuki said on which he sees the surprise look at first at the young pitcher face but it immediately vanish and was replaced by an oppressive aura with a look of determination shining at the boy brown and blue eyes.
'We really max out our luck in having this freshman this year huh' Miyuki thought to himself looking at Jiro.
"You're eyes really is something else every time I look at it, man I'm jealous!" Miyuki added.
While on the field where Yuki is trying to test the freshman pitching skills a 2nd year manager could be seen running towards the captain.
"Ha Capt-ain"
"Relax yourself first, what is it?" Yuki asked. On which the manager obeys and after a while said
"Coach ask you to come to the bullpen captain"
"Why?"
"A monster, a monster pitcher" the manager said.
'Monster pitcher huh? Was that the reason of the loud noise we've been hearing here?' Yuki thought to himself.
Yuki made his way towards the bullpen with the manager. The freshman fielder's look around themselves not sure what to do so they followed their captain towards the pitching area.
When Yuki arrives he directly go towards the coach to announce his arrival.
"Go stand as a batter, in the batter box" kataoka announces which earned a shock expressions from the players around, the freshman that just arrives mostly is confused since they don't really know what's happening.
"Yes sir!" Yuki answered kataoka
"Is that Tsubayoshi?" Kanemaru asked to himself looking at Jiro on the mound in pitching area.
Everyone is pretty much anticipating the battle that's about to happen between their monsters first year and captain.
When Jiro saw their captain made their way over here and was asked by the coach to stand as a batter Infront of him he's pretty excited. He knows that Yuki is considered the best when it comes to batting in seido. Just the thought of striking out a batter like Yuki made him tremble slightly in excitement.
"Are you nervous?" Miyuki asked Jiro as he saw the boy trembled a little.
"No, I'm excited" Jiro replied
"Heheh you're really something, you know. I like you now"
"I don't swing that way senpai" Jiro said jokingly on which both of them laugh at it.
"I'll trust your call senpai, you know captain best so go and make the call yourself. I'll just pitch the ball where your mitt is"
Miyuki smiled at what just his kohai said.
"Okay! Let's talk about our sign for now. So this is for the fastball, this is for your forkball and this is for your gyroball, got it?"
"Yes"
"By the way, how much is the success rate of your breaking balls"
"It's good enough senpai, I can throw it where you directly position your mitt is" Jiro said which shock Miyuki once again not expecting that answer.
'I worked my ass off during the remaining 6 months that I have before going to Seido. I made sure to completely master the gyro ball during that time. Although my breaking balls got a little unstable every time when I'm tired, it's good enough since I still have plenty of stamina now' Jiro thought to himself.
"You're so sure of yourself ehh? Alright I'll trust you partner let's struck Yuki senpai off" Miyuki said tapping his mitt at his pitchers glove before getting back to his position to catch the ball. Yuki is already there waiting doing some practice swings himself.
"Be careful Yuki senpai that guy is a complete monster" Yuki heard the warning of the catcher on which woken up his competitive state.
*DOOMMMM
A huge aura came out from the captains body holding his bat steadily at the batters box.
"Interesting" Jiro mumbled softly as he closed his eyes trying to enter in a hyper focus state and as he slowly opened his eyes
*DOOMMMMM
A terrifying aura came out from his body nothing less than his captain. He nods as he saw Miyuki asked for a fastball right down the middle for the first pitch.
Yuki saw the young pitcher on the mound begun his wind up then
*BOOOMMMMMMM
He suddenly heard a loud deafening sound beside him as he didn't even have time to swing his bat. 'Fast, faster than everything that I've seen. Interesting' Yuki thought as he looks at ball in the catchers mitt realising his aura much larger compared to before.
"Nice ball!" Miyuki said throwing the ball back to Jiro.
"WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!"
"You're telling me he's a first year like us?"
"Monster"
A couple of first years said, as they just got here with Yuki so this is their first time seeing Jiro pitch so they are shocked about it, especially Kanemaru since he's been hanging out with Jiro this morning.
Jiro, Miyuki and Yuki is obviously oblivious to what's happening around them as they focus currently at the their battle.
'Give me another fastball down the middle' Miyuki thought as he gave the sign to Jiro.
Yuki is so focused at watching Jiro's wind up trying to time his swing right.
*BOOOMMMMM
The loud sound of the echoed in the place once again which follows a sound of a swing
*SWISHHH
The sound of Yuki swinging his batt to the empty air hitting nothing as his swing is too late.
'Slow. Too slow! I need to swing faster or else I won't graze the ball at all! Faster. Faster. Faster' Yuki thought to himself his aurs on the batters box skyrocketing.
Jiro notice the aura his captain is giving out and he just smiled at that, 'Captain swing sure is scary but that's still not enough to get a hit out of me' He thought to himself.
Miyuki once again pass the ball back to Jiro saying "Nice ball!" as he look at his captain trying to think what pitch is he going to ask for the third pitch.
'Okay let's try it' Miyuki thought to himself as he gave the sign of forkball towards Jiro while grinning. 'Throw it here' he positioned his mitt just below the home plate.
Everyone is holding their breath awaiting what's going to be Jiro's 3rd pitch as he begun his wind up no one is blinking afraid to miss something out.
Yuki watch as Jiro releases the ball and it's now roaring towards his way, 'Another down the middle? Are they underestimating me?' He thought to himself thinking that it's a fastball since the speed is around 150km/h - 151km/h as he began swinging his bat so fast that others that has low cognitive ability can't seem to follow.
'Down the middle? Did he slip out of control?' Miyuki also thought as he saw the ball coming his way.
*SWISHHHH
He heard the wind breaking as he saw his captains bat being swing at a terrifying speed.
'Ahh he's going to hit it' he thought but suddenly he saw the ball break downwards so fast before even the bat could graze it.
*BOOOMMMM
A loud sound once again can be heard as the ball is drilling itself towards the catchers glove trying to break out.
"STRIKE OUT!"
"Woahhh he strikes out captain with 3 pitches"
"Damn so cool!"
"So strong!"
The place was filled with gasp and cheers as the battle between their monster pitcher and captain concluded.
'This is fun, this guy is so fun!' Miyuki thought to himself still remembering the last pitch he received.
'Next time, I'll hit it next time' Yuki thought looking at the ball in Miyuki's hand with a frown on his face.
On the sidelines the pitchers have a stunned look at their face. Especially Tanba, Sawamura, Kawakami and mostly Furuya. They were stunned seeing Jiro's brilliant display of his skill.
The source of everything is just there standing on the mound smiling happily.
"That's enough now, I've seen enough"
Kataoka said silencing the place as he glance at Jiro's way.
"You're joining the first string practice starting tomorrow"
