Robert woke in the afternoon from a deadweight sleep and telephoned the hospital. She had woken he was told, but was sleeping again. Leave any visiting until tomorrow. He was glad to be directed. Would have gone to sit with her again. But, really, what would have been the point? It had been a bad night and he woke frustrated. Unsettled. Didn't know that Elisabeth had received a visitor during her brief wakening. Didn't know that Thierry Richards had held her hand and asked for forgiveness. Had asked her to return.
