It is often said that Florida is a land of talent and beauty. In reality, the crime rate here is not that high compared to the rest of the USA. Jack believes the reason for the state's "idle" reputation is linked to Florida's public records law. The most famous of these is the "Sunshine Law," under which the state government declares that all government affairs are public affairs. As a result, many records in this state, such as arrest reports, emergency call records, and even mugshots, are readily available for public viewing.
In other states, although similar laws exist, even journalists need to submit applications and wait several days or even months to obtain what is theoretically public information.
With the rise of internet media, some people have started accounts online, reporting various bizarre events they find in public records. This might be a kind of survivor bias.
Jack and Hannah's first stop in Florida was not the famous Miami but Clearwater, near Tampa on the western side of the peninsula.
Driving south along Highway 93 from Georgia for over eight hours, they first arrived in Tampa, rested for the night, and then drove west along the Gulf Boulevard the next day. After crossing the long causeway over Old Tampa Bay, they reached Clearwater.
This place feels like a city built on white sand beaches.
"It feels a bit strange. I lived in Los Angeles for so long and never really wanted to see the ocean and beaches. But coming here, I suddenly find the coastal scenery so beautiful."
The color of the seawater here is different from the famous beaches in Los Angeles. The sand is finer and whiter, and the nearshore water is a more pleasant shade of green. Only in the distance does it gradually return to the normal light blue color.
They drove to the southernmost tip of this small bay and spent a large sum to rent a vacation cabin, which included a small stretch of private beach.
While public beaches are also scenic and populated with many hot Latin beauties, there are also many sights that are hard on the eyes. The southern states' diet contributes to the highest obesity rates in the country.
Jack's aesthetic differs from the mainstream. He finds overly full hips and lower limbs unappealing. Sometimes, bigger is not better; he prefers natural and healthy appearances.
Hannah's figure rivals that of a supermodel, and with his help, her skin looks better than any beauty camera effect. Just looking at her is pleasing enough.
"Is it because you've finally relaxed?"
Hannah smiled sweetly. She knew Jack's past life well. Living on the edge of the slums, he struggled alone to run a small grocery store, treading carefully every day to avoid being caught in various troubles.
After finally becoming a police officer, he experienced many big and small cases and was constantly busy with learning and training.
In her memory, the most relaxed time she saw him was probably when he was cooking delicious food for her.
After applying sunscreen on his sweetheart and enjoying the touch, Jack thoughtfully helped her tie the bikini strap. Although the private beach was fenced off, there was no guarantee that tourists who wanted to enjoy the beautiful beach without paying would not try to sneak in.
If someone were to take advantage of his woman, would he pull out his gun or his gun?
"Isn't it because you are by my side that I feel relaxed?"
Jack bent down to kiss her, handed her a can of cold beer, and then lay down beside her.
Although they were also by the sea, the temperature here was slightly higher than in Los Angeles. Hannah's body temperature was somewhat lower than his. With the sea breeze blowing, her cool skin felt very comfortable against his.
Hannah instinctively arched backward. Both of them were tall, with long legs, and their body curves fit perfectly together.
"Do you remember the first time we met?"
Hannah pressed Jack's mischievous hand against her chest to stop him from moving, then pulled his other hand over to rest under her head.
"It seems you looked down on me a lot back then."
Jack's thoughts drifted back to the past. At that time, he had just met Zoe. One evening around six or seven, he was squatting in front of a smashed shelf, silently cleaning up, when two beautiful female police officers appeared at the grocery store entrance, looking at him in surprise.
"I didn't look down on you much, just found it odd that you didn't show any anger. Your expression was like my dad's when I caused trouble as a child. He would look at me the same way."
Since she was facing away from him, Jack could only see Hannah's profile. He couldn't tell if her cheeks were red from the sun, highlighting some faint freckles.
"Quite helpless, right? I should thank you for patrolling my area frequently; otherwise, that little store almost couldn't stay open back then."
At that time, Jack was indeed struggling. Even after paying protection fees, the street kids wouldn't leave him alone. Seeing him alone, they harassed him continuously, trying to turn the small grocery store into an underground 'herb' sales point.
"That was just a small return for all the delicious food you bribed me with," Hannah huffed, a little proud.
"Speaking of which, I also gave those guys a little return recently."
Jack recounted a recent encounter while patrolling the streets.
Hannah suddenly turned to face him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So you've always held a grudge. I thought you had already forgiven those guys."
"Why would I forgive them? Even after your warnings, they wouldn't let me off easily when they saw me on the road," Jack said, puzzled.
"Because you're an angel. Someone like you shouldn't bother with such small matters."
Hannah's blue eyes rolled, and she gently touched her fair shoulder. After the battle two days ago, her right shoulder had been bruised by Barrett's recoil. Now it was completely healed, showing no signs of injury.
Sigh, she still suspects something. Hannah is young, and although Zoe and Maureen had long noticed, they never questioned it, only worked to deepen their relationship.
"It's just a small special ability. There are many people stronger than me in this world. I heard the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) even has a psychic detective."
Jack chuckled, trying to brush it off. It's not that he didn't want to reveal any secrets; strange things happen in the USA all the time. As long as he didn't do something drastic like miraculously cure cancer, there was no need to worry too much.
The System is hard to explain, though. Isn't it better if everyone understands without saying it?
"Hmph, he can't be stronger than you. Look at Zoe now; she looks younger than me. No wonder she's always competing with me for you. That day in the bathroom, she even..."
Hannah suddenly paused, her eyes shining, "No wonder she swallowed it that time. It must be because of that..."
Jack couldn't help but laugh, silencing her with a kiss. What kind of ancient harem drama is this? Her imagination is too rich.
"That's enough. You might as well think of me as an angel. You know angels have many wings, right? The more wings an angel has, the stronger they are. You are my wings. If I gather 12 pairs of wings, I can fly back to heaven."
"Ow, take it easy. You're getting rougher."
As punishment for his nonsense, Hannah demanded that Jack cook a seafood feast. Jack had to spend half an afternoon driving to the port's seafood market to buy ingredients.
Florida has a unique type of stone crab. Fishermen only take its large claws as the catch, along with some blue crabs, and simply boil them with some spices.
They also bought a 12-pound red grouper to steam. Simple and straightforward, it made for a sumptuous meal.
They stayed in the seaside cabin for two whole weeks, eating seafood every day, visiting aquariums, participating in diving training, feeding dolphins from a speedboat, having a great time.
After all, Zoe had hinted to Jack that Hannah's wish was to be with him, just like a couple in love, spending some time alone.
Jack, while occasionally unfaithful, kept his main relationship steady, turning a two-week vacation into a honeymoon.
Once Hannah was thoroughly satisfied, it was time to head back to the West Coast.
