Chapter 26: I Thought This Was the Truth

Talking about grand ideals is often just a matter of "drawing cakes."

Drawing cakes requires two steps: First, you have to "draw," meaning you have to speak well.

Turning black into white, dead into alive.

Additionally, you really need to have a cake, at least something that makes the other party believe that it's possible, and the size of that possibility is the skill of "drawing" the cake.

Rama is not a master at drawing cakes.

But he does have a big cake in hand, something everyone can see.

"I have already led you to victory. When we consume the wealth of this tribe, Tanit will become even stronger."

After winning the first battle of the snowball, the rest will be even easier.

Unless all the tribes in the desert unite against Tanit now, things will only get easier.

But why would they unite so quickly?

This is a calculation everyone will make.

Rama alone can single-handedly conquer a tribe. After digesting the fruits of victory, the next war for Tanit will be even easier to win.

In other words, the cake is getting bigger. In this process, everyone has a chance to get a piece of the cake.

Rama just wants to be the one who divides the cake, and they are the middle tier of the tribe. Maybe in the future, they will also want the power to divide the cake, but now, they just want to eat the cake first.

With benefits and deterrence in place, the next step is to add a little bit of driving force.

What is a better driving force than hatred?

"When King Deshret was still alive, the desert was not like today."

Rama changed his tone, his words seemed to be reminiscing, "You should be able to see, the war machines I drive are obviously remnants of the Scarlet King."

It actually has little to do with the Scarlet King.

Rama's technology tree is quite standard, built on the elemental technology books he acquired from the Akademiya.

But now the desert is poor and ignorant. If you tell them your technology comes from the Scarlet King, they will just think it's plausible.

After all, the technology tree that the desert can trace back to is what the Scarlet King pointed out.

"The Scarlet King's legacy!"

They whispered among themselves, their eyes on Rama showing a bit more recognition.

Divine authority is a persistent topic in Teyvat because there are really gods in this world.

Although Tanit is a tribe that worships the Flower God, among the desert people, few resist the faith in the Scarlet King.

The deputy thought the same way.

That's right.

How could an ordinary scholar, who wasn't even famous, suddenly achieve such results and technical prowess?

Of course, it's because he obtained the Scarlet King's legacy, recognized as a desert dweller by the Scarlet King.

Rama doesn't really look like an Eremite, but he did grow up in the tribe.

Divine authority brought extra benefits to Rama.

"In the ruins left by the Scarlet King, I saw some records."

"Before the disasters hundreds of years ago, back then we had prosperous lands and kingdoms. The power of the Jinn provided us with water, and the gods protected our lands as well as the ancestors of the desert."

"But today we have to fight each other for some resources. Even so, the tribes often fall into resource scarcity."

"All of this is the conspiracy of the Akademiya!"

Actually, it has little to do with it.

The first fall of the desert was because Liloupar played a trick.

The second trouble was entirely the Scarlet King's own doing.

Objectively speaking, this has nothing to do with the Rainforest and Dendro Archon.

After the death of the Flower God, the Scarlet King dug up some dark technological trees and was warned by the authorities. The Nail of Celestia struck the Scarlet King's face, telling him to stop messing around.

However, the Scarlet King pretended not to hear and even began to study the Nail of Celestia.

As a result, the "forbidden knowledge" he brought polluted the Ley Lines, and Greater Lord Rukkhadevata had to step in to clean up the mess, losing most of his power in the process.

The Scarlet King also made an insurance deal with Apep. The Dendro Dragon swallowed the Scarlet King, along with the pollution on him, nearly killing Apep on the spot.

Fortunately, this Dendro Dragon was powerful and adaptable, changing form and withstanding the corruption.

Looking back at the history of the desert, until the Scarlet King's death, everything was the desert rulers messing things up.

The change came after the Scarlet King died.

The Archons of the Mortal World would not forsake the gods of humanity.

Seeing the plight of the desert people, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, of course, without hesitation, decided to accept these unfortunate ordinary desert people.

During this period, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata's power was depleted, transforming from a "tree" to a "grass," but logically, his wisdom should not have been affected.

Yet, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, from the time of the Scarlet King's death to the hundreds of years when the Tree King also chose to sacrifice himself, his governance of the desert resulted in the desert people spreading: the Scarlet King was assassinated by the Tree King.

With Greater Lord Rukkhadevata's methods and wisdom, there is no way he could have managed the desert into this state and let such absurd rumors circulate in the desert.

It can only be said that the time spent on pollution management and body recovery wasted a lot of time. Anyway, the result is clear: the desert people are not satisfied with the rule they accepted during this period.

Afterwards, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata went offline, Lesser Lord Kusanali was imprisoned, and Sumeru's leadership belonged to the Sages. They were even less likely to be satisfied.

The Sages' discrimination against the desert people was almost written on their faces.

They prohibited scholars from walking in the desert to spread knowledge, selected talented desert people to enter the Akademiya, but did not provide them with the same educational resources as other students.

If you apply with other scholars, your application is pushed down or simply rejected outright.

The future Grand Sage, Alhaitham, probably pretended to know nothing because getting to this point was too difficult.

Things obtained with too much hardship are naturally not easily discarded.

Just turning a blind eye to certain things is not difficult at all.

Then, Alhaitham was persuaded by Nahida and Lumine's verbal skills. Betrayed in the morning, captured at noon, and even Lumine and Nahida, who went to take over work at night, were caught by the doctor.

A bit awkward.

Fortunately, the Grand Sage showed his unique "kindness and leniency" at this time, only imprisoning but not killing.

So after Nahida won, Alhaitham took credit for it and stood up again.

Between the desert and the rainforest, for Rama, the main responsibility lies with the desert's incompetence.

This kind of issue is unfair within the same regime, but between two regimes, it means your country is incompetent.

Incompetence is the original sin.

Objectively speaking, the desert has come to this point because there are too many dragons and phoenixes lying dormant here.

Moreover, the desert god is the Scarlet King, not Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. The Dendro Archon's willingness to accept and help is already a worthy act of gratitude.

He directly let the Rainforest side turn the desert people into slaves. This is also the outcome the Scarlet King gave everyone to choose.

The god everyone worships led the desert people into the garbage dump, and they can't blame the Dendro Archon.

But thinking this way, you can't say it like that.

Rama said the desert people have been propagating it for so long, they even believe it themselves.

As for the truth—I really thought this was the truth.

After all, everyone says so, and they have been saying it for so long. I think it's the truth, and I can't be completely blamed for that, right?
