Roxx's decision
While an average person's lifespan is around ninety five years, due to extensive use of his devil fruit abilities, he didn't have much time left to live. Probably a couple of years at most. The ope ope no mi was one of the most broken devil fruit out there. Even though gura gura no mi has been mentioned as the most powerful paramicia type devil fruit to ever exist, with its shear versatility, ope ope no mi could rival that devil fruit very easily. But it came with a heavy price. Every time Roxx used his devil fruit he has to trade it with a lot of stamina and a tiny bit of his life force.
While it didn't have any visible instantaneous effect on the user except for severe exhaustion, with prolonged use, this devil fruit can reduce a person's life span by at least two decades. And Roxx has speculated his death at the age of seventy.
But before his death he has only one wish. To save his granddaughter Kureha from the world government. Due to one of it's awakening abilities of his devil fruit, Roxx was being targeted by the world government. The perpetual youth surgery that can make anyone. And the word government wanted him to perform that surgery on their chosen person. Probably a celestial Dragon.
But Roxx didn't want to do that. But going against a force that is currently ruling the entire world has it's own consequences. And Roxx faced those consequences by losing his widowed daughter. Now the only family member he has left, was his granddaughter. And he didn't want to lose her at any cost. Since Kureha was just a child with no threat towards the world government he decided to take her to his home Island, the drum island. After that he was planning to commit suicide so that world government will lose its purpose to go after his only granddaughter.
Dying a couple of years early wasn't that bad. At least it was better being chased as a criminal by the entire world.
At least that was the initial plan made by Roxx.
But then a girl named Maki entered his life. The girl was the same age as Kureha's. But calling her a girl would be disrespect. She was the strongest being Roxx has known.
But there are some serious issues with her. Especially due to her past, the way she deals with her problems was really disturbing. But since she is the strongest, no one will be able to stop her.
But in the short amount of time he and his granddaughter, sailed with her, gave a deeper understanding of her personality.
Maki was just a kid like Kureha with a lot of power and pain.
Her actions were the result of her resolve and willingness to do anything to achieve her goal. She has a very strong will. But it also created a twisted way for her to deal wait for overwhelming pain.
They spent a very little time with each other. But that little time was very pleasant for his granddaughter Kureha. After losing her mother the girl never smiled. But after standing time with Maki, Kureha started to smile again.
They have made a deal. Maki will safely drop Kureha in drum Island and in exchange, Roxx would company her in her journey. And after sometime, Roxx started considering abandoning his idea of suicide.
But nothing in this world goes according to plan.
Maki didn't leave her desire for vengeance. Which led them to Gamblers Hut Island. Roxx was nervous at first. But, then Maki revealed her devil fruit ability. They were safe in her shadow world. During that time, Maki destroyed The Marines and killed a celestial Dragon. But things didn't end at that. The former admiral, Roma joined them in order to not get killed.
Back then, Roxx was very cautious of Roma. Her reason for joining was very Roma like. Being one of the older marines, he has seen her advance in her ranks very fast. There was a time when Roxx has commanded the girl when she was just a Marine captain. Within a couple of years, she climbed up in her rank and reached the rank of a vice admiral. And now she has reached the rank of an admiral.
Roxx was extremely weary of Roma. But he never expected to get out manuvered by his junior. Roma was able to mask his intentions from Roxx. Masking would be incorrect. She was quite literally faking it. Roxx has seen many cypher pole agents who suppress their emotions perfectly full stop but he has not missed their true emotions with his observation haki. And combining it with his devil fruit power, he could perfectly tell about a persons emotions and intentions. But unfortunately he overestimated his haki. Or it would be better to say that, he underestimated Roma. She was able to fake her intentions and emotions perfectly. During there short journey, Roxx never realised that she was just a spy. Not even once. That was Roxx's first mistake.
His second mistake was underestimating world government. He never thought that the world government would try to target his granddaughter while Maki is around. She could easily destroy Marine fleets. Even an Admiral would be no match for her. And considering the overwhelming power of Maki, only someone too stupid or too bold would try to go against them.
But the word government considered itself the ruler of the world. So obviously they would try something. And they targeted his granddaughter.
But after that, what happened, changed everything. Maki was stabbed by a hypnotized Kureha. At that moment Roxx thought that his grand daughter is a goner. But Maki didn't kill her. Not only that, but also, Roxx witnessed the full power of Maki who wiped the floor floor the immortal five elders.
But what's truly surprised him that, when Roma revealed herself as a traitor and spy, Maki choose to protect him with the cost of her life.
At that moment Roxx has already made up his mind.
He didn't care if his action will create an immortal unstoppable monster. He would save her no matter what.
He was ready to die. A few months early death, would hardly make any difference.
But unfortunately, Maki knocked him out before taking them away.
By the time, he woke up, Maki's life force was already slowly fading away.
Roxx wanted to say goodbye to his granddaughter. But he didn't have that time. So without hesitation he brought forward his arm.
"Re-room !"
