Chapter 10: Across the Line
Andrew Fray POV:
I sat in one of my firm’s surveillance vans parked across the street from a carpenter’s shop, the workplace of potential kidnapper Richard Pryce.
Through the headset I was wearing came the sounds of crunching.
“Zach, could you please put the chips down?” I asked into the headset speaker.
“Mmff, sorry,” his muffled voice came back. “I was hungry.”
When are you not? “Are you at least paying attention?” I asked. “That’s a surveillance van you’re in, not an RV. That also means you’re responsible for keeping the equipment clean.” I knew everything would be covered in crumbs.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m not a child, Andrew,” his voice came back. “The house is quiet. What about your end?”
“Yeah, it’s quiet here too,” I replied as I checked the van’s monitors.
Zach seemed to have stopped eating chips and started slurping through a straw. “So, anymore dates with that hot cop?” he asked out of the blue.
