"I hope that I can at least win something..."
I looked at Red with a confident smile and we brought our papers to the receptionist as soon as we were done.
More and more people followed suit until everybody was finished.
A team of staff members organized all the papers and passed them through a huge scanner. After a while, they made an announcement through some speakers.
The voice was from the woman that gave us our sheets.
"Thank you all for participating! We will now announce the winners."
"In third place, with a score of fifty-two percent... Is Red-san! Please come to reception to collect your prize."
Red put on a happy expression and ran there. He came back with a beaming smile.
"What did you get?"
"I got an everstone!"
Well, that was to be expected from a third-place finish. Not the best thing, but Red looked happy to have won it at least.
The speakers then sounded again.
"Coming in second, with a score of eighty-nine percent... Is Mr. Aizawa! Please come to reception to collect your prize."
A man with a thick mustache and a suit walked towards the reception. He seemed unsatisfied.
When he came back, he hid his prize.
"As for the winner of this year's quiz, with a score of... one-hundred percent?! I-is Shawn! P-please, come to reception to collect your prize!"
"As expected from Shawn-San!" Red looked at me with admiration.
I confidently walked towards the reception. The problem was that I garnered too much attention, and people were staring at me like I was a freak.
When I got there, all of the staff were present and they threw some confetti in the air.
"You are the first person in the history of this museum to get full marks. The founder told us to hand over this extra prize to whoever achieved this. We don't know what's inside, please take it."
What I got was a small box and a fossil. The fossil looked like a hazelnut sculpture.
"So it's the old amber, huh?"
After putting it in my spatial storage, I opened the small box and peered inside.
"This..."
Inside the box, was a small marble-like stone. it was small and was rainbow-colored. In the middle, it had a weird black design with lines running through it.
A keystone!
As I was dazing out, the woman looked at me weirdly.
"Do you know what that is?"
Panicking, I shook my head. She then sighed and sent me off with a smile.
I quickly hid the keystone in my spatial storage where it would never be stolen from me. Only then did I feel safe.
I am in an extremely good mood right now... I just discovered that Mega evolution is a thing in this universe!
And 'll be able to use it at some point! I can't wait.
When I got back, most of the people had already left. Red was waiting for me, as he chatted with the old man from earlier. Mr.Aizawa, I think.
"Hey Shawn, what did you get?"
"An old amber. Nothing special... By the way, what are you two talking about?"
"Ah, this is Mr.Aizawa. He's very smart and friendly. We were talking about you."
Oh god, this airhead. Doesn't he know that we can't just talk about ourselves to anyone? Did he not hear what I told him earlier about staying low-key?
"Hohohoho... Young Red, you praise me too much. Hello, Shawn-kun. I have heard a lot about you from Red here. Could you show me the fossil? I'll show you my prize."
Intrigued, I accepted.
After inspecting my fossil for a while, he showed me his prize. It was a small, shiny black rock. I immediately recognized it as a Moonstone.
"Ah, an Moonstone. You sure got a good prize."
"Hohoho! I thought so too, but your fossil is amazing! In fact, I'm a collector myself, would you like me to show you my own fossils?"
Hearing this, I smiled. Crafty old man.
"Thanks... But we have to go now. Red."
"Okay, have a good one!"
The old man smiled, but his small change in character did not escape my eyes. Red was confused as to why I decided to leave so early, but I told him to trust me.
As we left the museum, I pushed Red and then threw myself into a nearby bush. He screamed in pain, but Charmeleon placed its hand on his mouth.
"Shut up and watch."
After a while, Mr.Aizawa came out of the museum with a dirty look. He started talking to himself, not knowing we were there.
"A shame that kid didn't take the bait. I could have made a killing there! Damn!"
With anger, he left the area.
"You see? Do not trust everybody that you meet, Red. Always keep some type of guard up, or you'll end up in a bad situation."
"There are people that know about the Pokedex and will do anything to acquire it... You have to be more careful, so chose your acquaintances carefully."
Trust me, I've been through it.
"Yes, Shawn."
Red looked perplexed, he had quite a bit of self-reflection to do. At least it's good that he understands.
"Okay, I'll take my leave. Be safe, and see you in Cerulean if you make it!"
"Of course I'll make it!"
Red started pouting and I left with a smile. Charmeleon followed as we made our way to Mt.Moon.
Luckily, I found both a Jigglypuff and a Pikachu on the way, easily capturing them. Now that I had a Charmeleon, it would all be easier.
As I was nearing the entrance of Mt.Moon, I heard high-pitched screams. Looking back, a girl ran towards me from afar. She was holding a fainted pokemon in her hands.
"Help! Please Help us!"
I focused a bit more and noticed that she was being followed by a Fearow... Oh boy.
Checking the Fearow's data with the help of the System, I took out my Exeggcute and it placed itself next to Charmeleon.
After a couple of battles on the way here, it had grown more confident.
The girl soon got to me and hid behind my back... I felt something very soft touching me. And when I say soft, I mean very soft.
Ahem. Well, I'm doing this because I need a Fearow for my Pokedex. I swear.
After rubbing my nose a little, I ordered Charmeleon to disrupt the giant bird's eyesight with Ember. Nodding, Charmelon spun and sent a flurry of flames its way.
Even though it was level twenty, Fearow lost quite a bit of HP.
I then told Exeggcute to use Hypnosis, making use of the fact that it was blinded by the fire.
Not knowing what hit it, Fearow fell asleep... Not missing the chance, I sent a Pokeball, cleanly hitting its head and capturing it in one go.
Job well done.
I went to pick up the Pokeball and turned around to see the girl from earlier. She had dropped to the ground in exhaustion.
Now that I get a good look at her... wasn't she... Blue?
