Bab 14: Everlasting Ideal

Various thoughts entered the boy's mind.

Seeing the angry goblins, he made an annoying smile while gesturing a hand across his neck.

There was look of playfulness in his eyes.

[You have learnt the Personal Skill: 'Taunt']

Those goblins roared and came closer like a horse of insects. Their ferocity were like unreal monsters.

A synchronised killing intention could be felt…

But it was a scheme they fell into.

The moment all eyes were on his glowing figure, he amped up the radiance of his bodily reinforcement.

Turning into a floodlight.

The eyes of the goblins, which had gotten used to the dark, was thrown out of order for a moment.

It was at that point Adam made his true first move.

'What a legend we have here~?' The boy thought sarcastically about the fastest goblin among them.

While the others were trailing behind, this particular one managed to get the closest to him.

But that also made it the most susceptible to changes. The sudden outburst of light blinded it.

This was the last thing the goblin ever saw.

A neck was separated from the shoulders, and was then kicked like a ball at the group that was nearby.

Creating a gory trick-shot which didn't do much damage to these tenacious bugs, but did help him.

Adam stepped into the gap between them.

He found his originally messy thoughts converging into a near clear mind, but not filled with clarity.

['Discipline' has created a synergistic effect.]

The boy hadn't regained his reason whatsoever. It just became easier for him to focus his thoughts.

Rather than fighting ideally and relying on balancing choices with greater effectiveness, he was instead doing whatever he wanted. Having no thoughts about the danger his life was in right now.

If Adam was a ship built with great care, then his opponents were an armada built to fit the purpose.

Moreover, just like a ship, there needed to be a certain level of preparation before it could strike.

Despite being lost in his hysterical madness, Adam was coldly measuring his blade and using every single ability he had to their greatest limit. It didn't matter about proficiency anymore. He let it all out.

A mixture of 'Life Radar' and 'Sixth Sense' allowed him to sense where everyone was in positioning.

And 'Seventh Sense' helped his timing.

A median line was drawn between him and every goblin still alive on his radar. One thing was left.

Adam acted on his whims…

The goblins recovered and tried charging at him from all directions at once. It was the best tactic.

It couldn't be helped that the ones he'd retaliate against would die, but the rest could still kill him.

That was the opportunity they were waiting for.

Daring him to swing, because he'd die either way.

'Do I look scared?' These words seemed written all over his face. It annoyed the goblins even more.

How dare he look at them like this?

After daring to kill their beloved king, how dare he taunt them like this? Did he not know any shame?

Their tactic was flawless. As crude as it may be, a simple rush like this wasn't easy to defend against.

Even if he tried blocking, each of them had their own ways of inflicting status ailments onto him.

Not that Adam knew this.

Since he simply wanted to attack them, that's exactly what he did… without any strategies at all.

He simply did whatever crazy move he thought of.

Adam swung the curved blade into a wall of goblins that had been trying to approach him at the front.

His blade continuing on to slice the ones that had been trying to flank him from the left all at once.

There wasn't enough time. They were merely an inch away from his back. Their mouths open wide.

'This is not over yet!' There appeared a violent glint in Adam's eyes. He continued the motion suicidally.

The sound of his spine snapping could be heard along with the cries of goblins. They were getting attacked. Still, none of them ran despite how bad their odds looked against this crazy werewolf.

The one Goblin Mage that had been struck flying earlier opened its eyes to see a monster fighting.

To the only intelligent goblin in the group, this demonic creature was like relying on its regeneration to keep doing as it pleased. Not only was it abusing its limits, it was also irrational.

One of the most common tactics when fighting a group was luring them into tight corners. By doing it that way, they would be able to cut down the amount of people they'd be fighting at one time.

Only a certain amount of people could go through a tunnel and approach in a particular direction.

Of course, such a tactic had no use here.

This was an open space. They had him surrounded in a way that any tactics of that level was useless.

So how was charging in somehow working…?

The way their opponent simply charged at the first person it saw and attacked was hard to predict.

Moreover, his movements became strange.

The youth broke his own spine to slash at a 360 degree angle, then used his regeneration like a rubber band to let look a roundhouse kick. This attack still going around in a circular motion.

When he successfully warded off the piranha-like pursuit of the horde, he'd again charge at them.

Again and again and again…

The Mage couldn't hold back. It gathered the remaining forces for one last brutal assault.

…But it was too late for such actions.

Before the surviving Goblin Mage could initiate any tactics, it had accidentally got the attention of the berserker not too far from it. Horror had struck the goblin for the first time as the fiend approached.

Death. Slaughter.

They had no chance since the beginning. When their sovereign died, their fate was decided.

These were the last thoughts the wise goblin had.

After a long while, Adam had finally exterminated everything that could manage to bring him harm.

But there was still only life left on his radar.

Unlike before, he was no longer energetic nor brazen. His regeneration had taken a toll on him.

It could be recovered with some rest, but he was unable to take such an action at this crucial point.

Instead, he looked at a particular cage not too far.

The life in that cage was weak. It couldn't harm him nor do anything to defend itself, but he had no reason to let it live. After all, this creature wasn't a werewolf like itself. It was merely a pitiful human.

The human child seemed to be a female. It had both eyes covered in a layer of dried blood.

Making it obvious her eyes were plucked out.

Indeed, it was a sorry sight to see… but he wasn't feeling like giving any mercy when he came this far.

Adam approached the cage with burning emotions.

Silent, but with eyes that were red with frenzy.

He had an indifferent attitude while walking towards the child. His hand reached out to it.

Only for him to finally hear the voice of this captive:

"Are you feeling okay, saviour?" These words were ordinary, but they somehow managed to move him.

A memory deep in his psyche was being dug up.

He started to feel a sharp pain in his head. It was a vague memory Adam Ocelot still couldn't recall.

{"Are you… feeling…"}

There was a broken memory him asking someone something similar, but not what happened after.

In that opening in his psyche, he started to remember something he'd forgotten in his frenzy.

The aftermath of Adam's kidnapping.

Even though there was no one here, the boy felt a familiar sensation of arms hugging him from behind. A feeling like he was being smushed by several people, but not feeling uncomfortable by it.

He remembered his family crying for him that day.

All the negativity he'd felt until that point had been washed away. Almost like they had never existed.

It was a miraculous feeling.

Adam Graham had believed this event would change him forever. Scarring his mind for eternity.

But just like that, they washed away his suffering.

The illusion of Graham's loving brother appeared before Ocelot. Speaking something he'd forgotten:

"Don't turn into the very people you hate."

The eyes of that person seemed certain about what Graham felt, but still offered up guidance.

These were the shallow words of someone who could never understand what he had went through.

If he really understood, then why say this?

It wasn't the words themselves that had affected Adam back then, but something else entirely.

It was his brother's existence itself that affected him. Much more than the words he had spoken.

This was the love that was ingrained into him.

Shadows of people Graham hated might have scarred him, but those he loved also healed him.

It may be true that Adam Ocelot had never truly met Graham's brother before, but just as Graham's hatred affected him… so too did the affection that could never be dispelled from his 'empty' heart.

Love was an everlasting ideal.

Words could hardly describe it.

Back then, Adam Graham had finally known true hatred after being washed over with violence.

But it only took a moment before he remembered that hatred wasn't the only thing in the world.

'Love' also existed for those who recognised it.

Graham may not have understood it in his life, but after crossing over… this everlasting ideal changed him. After Graham lost the people he loved in his lifetime, Ocelot learned to appreciate this affection.

The fire in his heart was no more.

His frenzied eyes vanished.

When Adam considered the words of that person, he started to see Graham's visage in this pitiful girl.

The sight of the two had overlapped.

Adam couldn't pretend he felt nothing from seeing the dependant look in the figure of the little girl.

"…I'm fine." Finally, he spoke to the captive.

His outstretched hand patting the girl on the head while wheezing. Trying to regain his composure.

"Thank you, saviour… Thank you." The polite little human girl grabbed his hand and started to sniffle.

He started to feel a tug on his conscience…

Did he really think about killing her until just now?
