Bab 108: Chapter 108
In another major conflict that was part of the 3 way war between the Republic, CIS, and Yautja, one of the most brutal battles in the war appeared on a small planet called Drongar.
This planet was located out in the middle of nowhere and served very little strategic importance. But it had one key export that made all 3 powers battle desperately and carefully for the it.
Bota
It was a rare plant that could not only be used as an effective medicine for most diseases and injuries on almost every species but it also had the unique effect of temporarily giving Force Sensitives a stronger connection to the Force.
But as great as Bota was, it had one major weakness. It was very frail.
Once unplucked, it had about an hour timer before it would rapidly wilt and become no more. They were also very sensitive to heat which meant using bolters, blasters, or any other explosive weapon would cause the plants that were struck to die instantly with those around also suffering from the intense heat.
So the Battle of Drongar was a battle that took place entirely using only non-energy weapons, something that the droids and clones were not created for.
Staffs, swords, vibroblades, and slugthrower. These were the only weapons that could be used openly without fear of damaging the important plant.
The Republic had to rely on a constant supply of Jedi healers and clone medics in order to heal the gruesome injuries that the clones were put through.
Blaster shots easily put a clone out of their misery or were at least commonly treatable. But the damage from other weapons were too unpredictable.
Vibroblades tore apart the clones organs and bones in constantly shifting ways.
The cutting wasn't even the most damaging part. The part that was the worst was that the vibrations would not just cause injuries to the area struck but also create internal wounds all over the clone's bodies.
In this aspect, the droids fared much better but they were still not meant for this battlefield. The droids could not deploy as many as they usually would at once in fear of crushing the plants.
Their usual tactics also became obsolete as they focused on staying in tight groups and formations. But on Drongar, they had to move around plants and corners, splitting up their forces and losing that overwhelming ability that they had.
But unlike the two who were struggling, the one who had come out on top in preparation was the Yautja. Instead of sending down their Astartes and an overwhelming group, they sent down their two units that best fit this assignment.
The first of the units was led by Cleopatra and they were the Yautja Purebloods. In the forest environment where could hunt enemies that had limited movement, the Yautja thrived.
Combisticks, bows, smart discs, blades, axes, spearguns. They had plenty of tools that could not only be used without fear of damaging the nearby plants but ones that they were used to.
Hell, they had more weapons that were not energy based than ones that were.
So when the Purebloods descended on the planet as the Yautja's initial wave, they caused nothing but terror.
Attacks from the shadows, attacks from below, and from above. Attacks from any time of day and night. Attacks that seemed strategic and those that seemed completely random.
They were nothing but pure terror that descended on the Drongar. And they were not even the worst that the Yautja had to offer for the planet.
Because when the Yautja sent in their second wave, that was when the Republic forces and CIS leaders knew true fear.
Darth Maul had appeared on the planet with his personal army, the Krieg. Each of these men and women were personally selected by Maul and none of them feared death. They would all happily run onto a battlefield with just their barehands as long as they believed that their deaths would serve Yautja's goals in the slighest, even if they were merely being used as a distraction.
But on Drongar, they were not unarmed. They had slugthrowers with bayonet attachments in place. Each had a knife and sharpened shovel as their sidearms while their faces were covered by gas masks.
Each member wore only leather armor that provided protection against the elements but nothing that increased defense. Their focus was on reaching the enemy as fast as possible in order to kill as many as possible.
The only thing that came close to armor were the gas masks they wore on their faces. Not because they used biological weapons but the fear that such masks created in the enemy.
Once they descended onto the planet, that was when the Yautja had truly begun to wage war on the planet.
The Purebloods hunted in the shadows while the Krieg took to the frontline. Each force was made for nothing more than to tear their enemies apart with overwhelming skill and terror.
The CIS was the first to be defeated, due to them breaking the unspoken rule about using explosives and energy weapons. The Yautja and Republic armies focused their attention on the side that broke the rule and broke them.
Once the CIS was defeated, the Republic was forced to face the Yautja alone but the Jedi in command did something unexpected. He recalled all of his clones before proceeding through the forests and plains with his hands empty and above his head.
When he reached the Yautja base, the man got down on his knees while still having his hands in the air.
"There is no point in further fighting. I want to request a cease-fire. My men and I will leave without further resistance. All I ask is that we be allowed to go free?"
Maul looked at the Jedi and smirked. This was the 5th Jedi he had faced in the war and the first who was sensible.
"Go. Take your men and leave," Maul waved his hand to dismiss the Jedi. His only goal was to secure the Bota, not defeat the CIS and Republic. With both of them gone, he would complete his goal without interference.
And that was how it all ended. The brutal battle that shed so much literal blood ended on an unusually peaceful note.
A battle that would have lasted years had the Yautja not gotten involved ended in only 2 months.
