Chiron frowned a bit. However, he knew very well that it could not be his dragon, or hunter, and definitely not Carla. 

It had to be one that was both useful, but the rest of the world would see as harmless, and even seductively inviting. After all, chiron knew, 'A man cannot prepare for war and bed a woman at the same time'.

Meaning that in Emma's presence, they would be the absence of violence or the suspicion of one.

Chiron shook his head. As things were, there was no time, and this was the best candidate that he had to use.

The sterile atmosphere of the makeshift surgical room was heavy with anticipation. And this was true on both sides. 

The dim light cast shadows on the walls, highlighting the intensity of the moment. Emma lay on the cold, metal table, her breath shallow and steady despite the fear that clung to the edges of her consciousness.
