Chapter 152: Side Quest – Gambler of Fate
~Silva K. POV~
[November 30, X784]
After the date with Juvia, I was currently inside the guild building enjoying my time as I observed everyone was as busy as ever which was odd.
I stand on the sidelines seeing everyone doing jobs witnessing Natsu and Happy both taking jobs quickly in excitement, "Gotta get jobs done!!! Gotta get jobs done!!!"
I hear Lucy at the bar of the guild trying to join for the job as I take a sip of my drink, "Wait!! If you're going on a job, count me in…"
*Vooom*
Then I saw Natsu flat out reject Lucy's invitation to his party as he replies in a hurry, "Sorry!! At this time of year, we work alone!!"
Just as I see Natsu I see the rest of the members try to finish up some jobs quickly in a rush surprising me with the amount of requests they are taking just witnessing the jobs being taken as fast as other members rush inside the guild.
"I'm back!!"
"Welcome, Gray. Where are your clothes?"
"Forget that!!! I need another job!"
"Mira!! I need a job for a man!!"
"I'll take this job! This one!!"
"Rrragh!!!"
"Hey, you jerk! I was here first!!"
"Who cares?!"
"Outta my way, you oaf!"
"Team Shadow Gear is disbanded for now!!"
Hahaha….
This kind of shit is funny seeing Mira being slammed by Request papers and seeing her suffer slightly does bring a smile to my face.
To my left side, I see Erza dueling against Lily in his battle shifting from practicing their swordsmanship using my <Perfect Vision> to gaining more EXP for my <Sword Mastery> skills in the process.
[+5 EXP to <Sword Mastery>!]
*KLANK*
[+5 EXP to <Sword Mastery>!]
*KANNG*
[+5 EXP to <Sword Mastery>!]
*KEEEEN*
[+5 EXP to <Sword Mastery>!]
*KONNG*
[+5 EXP to <Sword Mastery>!]
*KRACH*
They then ended the fight admiring each other's swordsmanship in respect to each other skills in the ways of the blade which makes me smile seeing how Lily fits in and Gajeel claiming him as his cat.
This will certainly be an interesting experience –
"Hey Silva…"
That was till my ears picked up being called as my head turned to the source revealed to be Cana with some hesitation in her eyes.
Interesting Cana doesn't come to me but I'm willing to hear her out as I responded in a kind tone, "Oh? Sup Cana what can I do you for?"
Seeing the hesitation on her face she finally responded to me in a hopeful tone, "Hey Silva… I was wondering how you got as strong as you did. Is there some secret that made you this strong compared to before…"
It seems like Cana is serious about asking how I got stronger huh?
[Ding!]
[Quest is generated!]
----
Side Quest: Gambler of Fate
Description: Cana asked [THE GAMER] how to become stronger. Show her the ropes in sparring sessions to let her see the fruits of countless days of training for the grind!
Objective: Defeat Cana.
Rewards: Kiriichimonji.
Failure: None.
[Accept: Y] or [Deny: N]
----
Seeing this I accepted the request as I responded to Cana how I got stronger in a serious tone, "I only train to get where I am Cana. Training every day if I can while having days off to relax. There's no big secret cheat to getting stronger than the old reliable method."
That seems to not satisfy her showing the expression of not believing in my words. I sighed at this taking out Shambhala surprising her by my request, "Sigh… seems like you don't believe my words so how about this? You and I spar one-on-one no Replica's just till one admits defeat and see if my words are true. That cool with you?"
She seems hesitant but nods once she catches view of Gildarts her father in the distance her expression changes expressing a determined glint in her eyes, "Sure. I'm sure I can kick your butt before… no never mind. Let's just go somewhere private to kick your ass."
I smirked at this since I'm not letting her go easy.
/////
~Third POV~
*Shiiii*
Teleporting onto the Great Plains with a clear area soon enough Cana and Silva teleported via Shambhala with a smug grin on his face, "So impressed by the teleporting or the private area of my training grounds in the Great Plains."
Cana took a moment to look around seeing signs of life with a table and other utensils along with wooden weapons and weights as she spoke out with sarcasm, "Oh? So, this like what your mancave out in the open? Or you didn't find an actual cave to be impressed by?"
Silva's eye twitched by that as Cana merely smirked as he moved enough space to begin their sparing match with him having Arifar equipped, "Alright Cana would you like to begin or rather I?"
Cana merely revealed her Deck of Magic Cards with each of the back of all these cards bears a dark cross with heart-shaped arms reminiscent of Heart Kreuz's logo surrounded by an intricate motif, while the front part houses a different image for each of them, reminiscent of those found on real-life tarot cards.
Revealing three cards with pictures of the 'Lightning', 'Reverse Tower', and 'Lovers' cards on top of each other, combining them, and subsequently generating a massive Magic Power with no words needed.
*Bzzzt*
Cana played <Thunderbolt's Fate> combo with electric shocks shot out quickly surrounding the area with Silva remaining calm.
Cana seeing Silva remaining still expressed a confident look with him preparing a <Stab> stance as wind gathered around making her think critically, 'He not going to bother with the lightning bolts? What's his – '
*Ding*
Suddenly Cana's eyes widen as Silva uses <The Knight> equipping Ricochet instantly parrying the magic lightning bolt away as rushes forward Arifar preparing his attack compressing the air surrounding his blade making it invisible to the naked eye causing her to narrow her eyes at the sword.
Silva used <Invisible Air> compressing his sword in layers of compressed wind stockpiling saving for <Air Strike> as he rushes in with <Stab>.
*Wooosh*
Cana quickly throws 10 Magic Cards that soon transformed using the spell <Card Explosion> bursting into a bright fire as Silva merely smirked.
*Woosh*
Her eyes widen as the fire suddenly got redirected immediately with him using <Pyrokinesis> to control the fire she produced making her take the brunt of <Stab> immediately feeling the brunt force of the <Invisible Air>.
*Wooosh*
*BAM*
Pushing her away she quickly got her bearings together as she put the two Magic cards, 'Heaven' and 'Wind', on top of each other and combined their effects to unleash a massive wave of wind that intended to strike him.
Surprise shown on her face she yells out what happens next in disbelief, "Okay I call total BS!!"
*Vroooom*
Suddenly Cana's spell <Wind Edge> was blown away by <Air Strike> rushing forward in her direction seeing a confident grin on his face, "Sorry Cana but you need more than that to beat me."
Cana merely twitched her eyes at him brushing off her attacks like it was nothing as he began to rush towards her forcing Cana to be cautious.
Quickly using <Random Throw> taking out a few of her Magic Cards began to glow strengthened flowing Magic into them with enough power to inflict damage when they landed.
*Wissss*
*Wisss*
Throwing them immediately Silva noticed them as he quickly used his attack pointing his blade at the cards thrown and unleashing his attack, "<Double Heart Mana Blast>!"
*WOOSH*
*BOOM*
*BOOM*
Releasing his <Mana Blast> the compressed surge of mana clashing channeled through his sword shot out at Cana's attack blasting them away into nothing along with any trees caught in the crossfire of the attack.
*THUD*
*THUD*
Releasing the attack causing several trees to be destroyed in the process causing Cana to see the destruction making her sweat a bit gritting her teeth in surprise, "Well… that's certainly troubling. But I'm not giving up yet."
Revealing a series of ice-themed cards directed towards Silva she used <Icicle> as he soon took control of her produced she next used <Sun's Strength> she threw a few of the same, fire themed Magic Cards, each with flame-like drawing on each of them as these cards, after being thrown, change into flame covered bullets which explode upon contact.
*Boom*
With the flame-covered bullets making contact with her <Icicle> spell caused a steam explosion, but Silva used <Invisible Air> to create a makeshift barrier protecting himself from the damage produced by Cana's spell.
*Wooosh*
With the wind being cleared into view Cana prepared another set of Magic Cards as Silva felt it was enough.
*Vooom*
Using <Mana Reinforcement> to strengthen his body already behind her brandishing his blade at its designated location stopping in place.
Cana immediately stopped sensing a blade behind her neck showing Saber holding Hrunting causing her to sigh.
She raises her arms up into the air admitting surrender to Silva of her defeat bitterly, "I lost… there are you happy now."
Silva merely smiled and backed off his blade returning it to his <Requip> responding as Cana witnessed the fruits of his labor, "Most definitely. But this strength could be yours if you work hard for it like I did. It wasn't easy getting to where I am, but I worked hard to get this kind of power."
Cana sighs admitting to Silva's words seeing the signs of countless scars on rocks and trees practicing seeing it put into practice she admitted as much, "Sigh… fine I see your ways isn't a load of bull. You simply worked hard to obtain this much in a short amount of time huh?"
Cana seems to be contemplating something as Silva drops the bombshell on her causing her eyes to widen at his claims, "I know this is intruding but did you only take me on to hopefully see Gildarts your pops see how her daughter has grown up?"
Her eyes dart towards Silva in utter shock finding that out as he exclaims to her his Eye Magic aka his <Observe> skill to figure that out, "Wasn't hard you know? Or did you forget I have my Eye Magic to help me find information not everyone knows at a glance?"
She tried to refute but couldn't as she forgot that Silva did have that kind of Magic to look into people's info about them at a glance she took in a deep breath and exhaled shooting a stern glare at him, "Whew… fine. But you better not say anything about this to anyone you got it, bastard…!"
Seeing the hostility Silva shrugged at her threat then asked in a curious tone that had been bothering him for a while now, "Perhaps but I do want to know why you can't just say you are his daughter? Does it matter that much with you being 18 years old?"
Her lips thinned at his words causing him to sigh gesturing for her to come onto the portal not leaving this topic alone, "Sigh… alright I'll let this go for today. But I'm going to talk to you about this issue tomorrow at my place. This is unrefusable so better come by or I'll come to you myself."
Cana gulped at that thinking to herself nervously talking about this to someone…
Chapter 153: Daddy Issues
~Cana A. POV~
[December 1, X784]
Ugh…
I really regret asking Silva out on his offer to train with him beating my ass and then hashing this out and talking about Gildarts –
I mean my Father…
Sigh…
*Knock*
*Knock*
Knocking on his door Silva soon revealed himself with a neutral expression on his face talking to me in a neutral tone, "Good. Glad to see you came rather I come to you. That was a wise choice Cana. Now come on through, we have much to discuss."
Entering through the doors of his place taking a seat on the table sitting while he took cups and coffee drink with a glass bottle of ale as he spoke, "Got some coffee for myself. I didn't know whether you wanted coffee or not so I bought a glass jar of ale for you if you drink in the morning or do you wanted something else."
*Plup*
Taking the bottle of ale tapping off the lid taking a sip in the morning since I need to be tipsy for this today feeling depressed about my odds, "Ah… I need this if we're talking heavy duty. Do your worst but… what would you do if I left the guild?"
His eyes flashed surprise before taking a sip of his coffee as he replied to me softly, "I would be sad if you did. And many others if you did but does it involve your father?"
I flinched at that sighing taking a small sip and talking this out.
I wouldn't have come here if it wasn't for Levy talking me into this.
I heard of her issues, and it felt good for someone to listen to her story as well as give advice on what to do.
Even Lucy could vouch for him along with Juvia about having time to talk this out with Silva. He seems to be popular speaking to girls.
And his the only one who knows my dad is Gildarts to console upon unless I feel like speaking this out to someone else to which hell no!
Not after he spoke broadly about it to my face.
Regardless I replied to his question hesitation in my heart speaking out how I truly felt, "You hit the nail. Nnn… I'm starting to think I should though. The whole reason I joined was too…"
Trailing off my words I froze slightly thinking of the thought as I clicked my tongue quickly dissuading that line of thought, "Tch. Well, I don't think it'll happen just –"
Before I could close that off Silva interjected with confusion on his face speaking to me in a stern tone, "What was it? Come on Cana how can I help if you keep yourself shut out to everyone? I promise to give my advice on your thoughts."
I shifted slightly hearing his response thinking for a while…
It's not like I have nothing to lose.
Taking a deep breath and exhaling my worries I replied to his question in a hesitant voice, "It's my dad… You know he's Gildarts. I joined the guild to try to get close to him, but he seems further away than ever, every passing year… it's just frustrating…"
It really was frustrating…
I planned on telling my father I was his daughter once I made it to S-Class but after year, after years of failing, I couldn't hope to catch up.
I'm lagging getting further away from him feeling the depressing weight on my shoulder he would be ashamed of me being a complete failure…
But before I could continue, I heard Silva's voice catch me by surprise with his response, "I have a question for you Cana. My question is simple, if you told your father who you were now, what do you think would happen?"
Caught off guard I didn't think of that question as I try to avoid that topic deflecting it in a confused tone, "I don't know… I mean, it could mean lots of things really…"
Silva put me on the spot with a small smirk on his face with another question, "Name two on the top of your head?"
Thinking of his question I complied ever slowly responding unsure where his line of thinking was going to do, "He could reject me… or... he could accept me…"
He took a sip of his coffee twirling his cup with his spoon as he replied to another question causing me to pause at his words, "Is that so? In that case, let's say if he were to reject you say… because you weren't an S-Class Wizard for example. Would you say that Gildarts is a good father, in that scenario?"
Feeling a bit offended I responded a bit fiercely leaning up from the table and glaring at him for insinuating Gildarts is a bad person, "No… No! I want him to be proud of me! It's nothing that you're insinuating Silva! He's not a bad guy…"
He took another sip as he used my own words against me in a calm tone leaning his back in his chair, "I see. In that case, do you think he wouldn't be proud of you then?"
Bitterly sitting down again and taking another sip I responded a bit calmer at his words finally finding an answer, "I don't know. How could I know how he would respond…"
At this, he smiles lightly making me pause at his words into consideration laughing lightly at my issues with his advice entering my head, "Hahaha… yeah it would be hard to predict. Impossible even but there is a way to get a special insight if you're willing to listen. And no, it doesn't involve your predictions."
Listening I nodded allowing him to speak gesturing my hands to continue the advice he had on mind speaking to me, "It's that you are his daughter. Some part of him lives on in you. Say if you had a long-lost child that you didn't have before, and came to you as a young adult, desperate to be proud of them… would it matter whether they were an S-Class Wizard or not?"
Pausing a moment taking his words into consideration…
No.
I would be proud of them no matter what.
Was I really being silly about this?
All I wanted was to be able to stand in front of my dad and show him that I was a capable young woman to be proud of…
But did I have to be an S-Class Wizard for that?
Why had I even been fixed on that as a goal?
I recalled how Gildarts came back to the guild at first in awe but then despair at the state he returned to the guild.
He laughed off and bragged about how badly he'd been torn up on his quest. He's been joking and showing off to be untouchable I thought at the time…
But then I realized he wasn't immortal. Not untouchable he could die on the job and wouldn't be around forever for me to speak the truth…
I didn't realize but my fist clenched tightly at the thought only to be interrupted by Silva's voice holding my other hand expressing a small smirk, "I think you should speak to your father directly seeing you know the answer… as a matter of fact…"
I felt my heart skip a beat seeing his Magic Tool teleport us transporting us as his smirk grew a bit wider, "We should go right now to speak to him! Yes! The longer we wait, the easier it will be before you stew and change your mind! Let's go!"
No wait…!!
*Shiii*
////
*Shiii*
I'm not ready – shit.
Transported immediately towards the guild sternly glaring at Silva's mischievous smile as my gaze landed towards my father Gildarts…
*Thump*
I feel a painful throb in my chest my heart beating a bit faster I stare at him a cut above the rest, an affable, competent man, terrifying in battle showing no fear even when a Dragon tore off his limbs…
He soon turned his gaze at me not wanting to tell him only for Silva to grip my hand tightly like iron not letting go as he spoke to us, "Hey! You're the newbie everyone is talking about Silva, right? I heard you managed to get two beauties fighting for you. Respect. And hello to you too, Cana."
Eeeep!
Making a small motion to come forward I froze in place but moved thanks to Silva forcing me along doing this even putting me on the spot!
This fucking asshole!!
That was when he opened his mouth getting Gildart's attention and directing his eyes towards me as Silva ran his mouth, "Hey Gildarts right? Cana has something she wants to say to you."
Being put on the spot I couldn't but try to form words out of my mouth, "Gildarts, I, I…"
My words promptly failed to form as Gildarts formed a wry smile trying to dissuade the situation making a joke scratching the back of his head, "If you're trying to confess your love for this handsome old man, you'll have to get in line I'm afraid."
I know he's trying to calm the mood as I try to form words, but I just couldn't. Feeling stuck but then Silva had to stick his nose in my life provoking me, "Sigh… it seems like I need to interfere. Cana! If you don't say the news, then I will."
Silva declared his face directed at him yelling at him in anger for doing so when it should be me to tell him, "Y – You can't! I must be the one to say it!"
Silva countered as my spine shivered at his words provoking me, "Then say it! Or I will…"
I slid my hand down grabbing my deck of cards in order to stop him as Gildarts stood up trying to diffuse the situation, "Hey, hey now. No need for you two to fight about this, I can go if I'm bothering you."
Silva soon declared shaking his head at Gildarts placing one hand on his shoulders with a determined glint in his eyes, "You most certainly not! In fact, this would be a good time for you to be present. There would be no point in this conversation without you here."
He looked at me causing my heart to freeze seeing he would absolutely do it if I didn't act as the number comes down frantically trying to make me act, "I'm going to say it in five seconds. Tick tock Cana… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1–"
I no longer froze yelling out loud for the guild to hear looking down through my energetic speech, "I'm your daughter!!"
Gildarts didn't say anything as I felt my throat bobbing swallowing my anxiety, with the deed just done.
*BAM*
*THUD*
"CRAB BASKETS!!!!"
*BOOM*
There was a loud thud of someone being punched, and a booming sound a second later seeing Silva's body being hurled into the wall yelling something about baskets and crabs of all things.
I could only gulp looking at my father properly for the first time, just staring at him trembling feeling like I messed I knew I shouldn't have –
Before I knew it, I was wrapped in a sudden hug squeezing tightly listening to his voice soft and gentle at me, "You're… Cornelia's, aren't you…"
I nodded silently at him as his eyes darted towards Silva's direction with an angry glint in his eyes in a determined tone, "Do you want me to beat up that bastard some more? Seems like he was bullying my one and only daughter that alone is courting his death."
*Krak*
Proving his point cracking his knuckles and letting out a croaked laugh trying to defend Silva not sending him a ticket to hell, "Haha… it's alright… he was helping me in his own way. Even though he deserved that punch."
He nodded as my dad exclaims trying to apologize to me for not realizing he had a daughter muttering to me, "I'm sorry. I heard that Cornelia had died, but I never knew she had a kid. I should have checked… if I had then all this time, I had a daughter… so close yet I never realized it…"
Feeling the hug suddenly grow tighter I replied to him feeling the tears swell up in my eyes explaining to him, "No… I should be the one to apologize… I kept it a secret I should've told you this sooner…"
I felt his embrace as he began to mutter out crying to me accepting me as his daughter in a pleading tone, "I can't. Please, Cana…. Give me a chance…. Please give me permission to love you, as a father…."
Feeling my tears running down I accepted him as my father as he hefted me up into the air, holding me under the arm and spinning me around. My dad's face was a mess yelling I love as I returned the same gesture.
Coming out from the hole in the wall Silva smiled congratulating himself approaching us, "Ah… what a happy site. My work here is done –"
*BAM*
*BOOM*
Interrupting him my dad kicked him in the chest sending him away into the wall again and kept going as he asked me in a curious tone, "Should I stop doing that?"
I let out a small giggle letting a small smile appear on my lips giving that trickster his just desserts, "No… well… he did almost have a heart attack and beat me up alone training… you can go all out. Only stop when his beaten up."
One could hear the echo of Silva responding out loud to my response, "OH, YOU BITCH!!!"
Gildart's eyes glared with a savage grin on his face responding cracking his knuckles and flaring his Magic Power, "Oi brat!! That was my daughter you just mocked Trickster!! You are courting death!!!"
And digging his own grave whether his brave or insane had the guts to respond, "Make me you alcoholic bitch! Woopwoopwoop!!!"
*WOOOSH*
And… Gildarts is gone.
May God help you Silva because Gildarts has none.
But all in all, thanks for helping me out…
*BOOOM*
*BOOOOOM*
If you manage to survive first hehehe…
