Chapter 21
SELENE
In the dungeon, I squatted, wrapping my hand around my knees in tears
"Maybe I shouldn't have insulted him, maybe I should have kept quiet and not acted the way I did," Millions of thoughts ran through my head and they were all of regrets
The smell of the dungeon made my stomach ache, causing me to wince back in pain
"This place reeks of fresh blood and fresh," I muttered, looking around the dark room. The sight of the blood on the floor almost made me throw up, but I chose to remain calm as tears welled up in my eyes.
"I was wrong for insulting Devon, maybe I overdid it," I blamed myself. Being locked up in that room was better than being locked up here.
"Selene!" Recon's voice in the prison rang, instantly causing me to lift my head.
"You!!!" I yelled and immediately stood to my feet. "You deceived me, you lied to me and said that I should insult him. How could you???" I was angry because if I had not listened to his advice then I would have still been in that fancy room. Although I never wanted to be anywhere in this house, at least it was better than this dark dungeon.
"I wish I never listened to you! I wished that I never listened to you!!!" I wanted to hit him, but from what happened before with Devon after I slapped him, I knew better than not to hit a demon.
"You shouldn't have trusted you. I don't know what I was thinking that made me trust you. I wouldn't have been in this situation." I fought the tears that welled up in my eyes back. I was devastated. I was trying to leave this hell of a place, but instead, I'm causing more trouble and attention for myself.
"Be quiet, you'll be released soon, don't rant about how the plan goes, wait for the outcome," Recon said, sounding a lot like Devon
"Devon threatened that he was going to cut off my head if I dared try to insult him again," I said, bringing my hands up to my hair and biting my lips in frustration. I've tried every single method that I know of, but still none of them works on Devon. He is hell-bent on keeping here and I don't want to be here. I was desperate to leave this place, no matter what it cost me.
"You used the words threatened and yes, I know that he doesn't make empty threats but are you scared, I'll assure you that you'll leave, he'll release you and when he does so, I'll come again," Recon said staring at me blankly but I was skeptical about trusting him again
"What if I successfully leave this place with a few bruises or no bruises at all? How am u sure that I can trust you?" I asked. I didn't want to make the same mistake I made earlier because I wanted to go home to my family and not stay here for the rest of my life.
Thinking about how my mother would feel made my heart skip, thinking about how my friends, my father, and the entire pack would feel made my heart skip.
"I'm the only person that'll willingly help you without having a second thought and, come to think of it... I didn't ask you for anything," Recon said, while taking a few steps closer to me.
"What? What are you doing?" I asked, taking a few steps back. "Your hair is messy, and your dress is dirty. At least you should arrange your hair and I can help you," Recon whispered.
"Who's there?" I heard the sound of a guard running towards the cell and before he got closer to the cell, Recon vanished.
I staggered back. I wasn't used to seeing demons disappear in front of me, and I wasn't interested in getting used to it.
"I heard a man's voice. Did anyone come here?" the guard said, but I ignored him and squatted again, resting my head on my knees. I heard the door of the cell slowly creak open, causing me to raise my head to see three guards.
"No one's here," One of the guards said. "I know what I'm saying. I definitely heard a deep voice, and it's muscular," the guard insisted on what he heard.
"But there's no one else here," the rest of the guards insisted and they tapped my leg, causing me to stare at them
"Who were you talking to?" He asked, but I ignored his question. I hissed and rested my head on my knees, waiting for them to leave.
"At that point, I wished that I could disappear, but I am a wolf, not a werewolf," I thought
"Are you deaf, you prisoner, don't make me look like a fool, where is he?" He said raising his voice at me but I was hell-bent on keeping mute and pretending like I didn't understand what he was saying.
One thing I realized about demons is that they're very wise. They can read thousands of connecting meanings to a single word that you said.
"Let's go. Since you insist that you heard a man's voice, then you should report it to our master. "
"Yes, I think he is right"
"Okay, I will," the guards said amongst themselves before exiting the cell.
I heaved a long sigh after realizing that they were far from the cell before I stood to my feet and paced back and forth in the room trying to think straight
DEVON
The abrupt knock on the door caught my attention. The smell of fresh blood and fresh hit my nose, causing me to instantly realize that it was a prison guard.
"Master Devon." The guard knocked for the second time.
"Come in," I said, permitting him to come in
"What is the matter?" I asked abruptly, making it obvious that I was displeased by his disturbance.
"I'm sorry for disturbing you sir, but I heard a man's voice in the prison where Ms. Selene is," the guard said and I instantly turned to him with a frown on my face
