"I am sad to say this Grace but if Hagrid were to stop trying to hatch the egg now the dragon inside would perish. I don't think any of us would want that so he is going to have to let it hatch and take care of it until it can be transported." Daphne's comment put the dampeners on Grace's glare but the intensity returned when Grace looked at Hagrids face which had split into a large smile as soon as he heard he could raise the child dragon a little.
"Don't think this will get you off the hook. I am still contacting Charlie but instead of picking the egg up immediately he will get it as soon as it can be transported. Am I understood Hagrid?" Grace asked with a look that dared him to disagree. "I hear you loud and clear Grace." The large man replied in a small voice.
"We will not be able to visit every day but we would be willing to help take care of the baby when it hatches. So please send us a note so we can watch it hatch with you, it is a rare sight to see a dragon hatch." I stated while biting into one of Hagrid's rock cakes, which were surprisingly good when I killed the hardness of the thing.
After Grace had chastised Hagrid, we headed back to the castle before Grace separated to ask Ron to send a letter to his brother Charlie on her behalf. Daphne and I decided that we would have the rest of the day off as we explored the castle holding each other's hands, we had barely left the standard route in which first years are shown to get to the important places so this exploration was mostly for leisure rather than need.
We were walking through the 4th floor where all the Alchemy and Ancient rune classrooms were based when I remembered about the room of requirement, "Do you want to come with me to find a secret room?" I asked as we reached a shortcut staircase to the 7th floor. "A secret room? How could you have found a secret room when we have spent most of our time together?" Daphne asked with a hint of suspicion in her voice.
"I promise that I have just read about it before and that I have not been on any night wanders without you. If I were to look for any secret rooms at night, I would most certainly take you along." I said while we walked up the stairs making Daphne nod her head and smile. Her smile always managed to make me smile as well since it made her already beautiful face even more so.
It's sad to think that an archaic law almost broke her smile by forcing other witches onto me when I became a lord. The Law I am talking about is the law about having Multiple titles and needing Multiple wives for those titles and since becoming a Lord emancipated me, I made sure that the law was scrubbed from existence.
It didn't take long for us to find the tapestry of Barnabus the Barmy in which he is teaching trolls with tutus to do ballet, "What is so special about this stretch of corridor?" Daphne asked as I stared at the tapestry, watching the trolls doing spins before bonking Barnabus with their clubs. "Well, you see Daph, from what I read you have to walk back and forth along this stretch of wall 3 times while thinking of the thing you need. This will open the door to the room and inside will be exactly what you require."
With a sceptical look on her face, Daphne completed the 3 rotations and was about to call me a liar when the words were caught in her mouth by a door suddenly appearing on the wall. Walking towards the door and pushing it open, I found a large bed along with bookshelves and a roaring fire. "Daphne, what were you wanting?" I teased the girl as this image could be interpreted badly by anyone who could not tell that Daph just wanted to lay in bed while reading a book and listening to the crackle of the fire.
After she spluttered with a face that was red with her blush, she realised I knew what she wanted but had decided to tease her. This earned me a hard smack on the arm as she walked into the room to pretend she was more interested in the books than in me. I followed behind while wishing for an armchair to appear by the fire, which when it appeared caused a smile to appear on my face.
It took a few hours of reading while ignoring me for Daphne to forgive my teasing, "Dinner will be soon, if you don't want to miss the meal we will have to leave now." I said to the burrito that Daphne had become, she had rolled the quilt around herself while she read to create an adorable Daphne roll.
"Can we take these books outside?" She asked since she clearly hadn't finished the book she had chosen, "I do not know, we will need to test that out." I replied while putting the book I was reading back onto the shelf. It turned out that the book she had selected could be taken out of the room causing her to trot happily all the way to the great hall.
We sat next to Grace who had saved us some space, "So did you manage to send off your letter?" Daph asked who received a nod since Grace had a mouthful of food. "Yes, Ron says I should receive a reply in a day or two so all I need to do is wait." It was our turn to politely nod at this information since we had just started our food.
