After Xiao Rong's comment, the pink-haired loli fell silent. Meanwhile, Chodori, unable to follow their conversation, sulked in silence. She could only wait for Reiki's return when her restrictions would be lifted so she could finally teach him a lesson.
Over the past weeks, Chodori had come to understand that as long as she relied solely on her physical strength, she could outmatch Reiki. However, now that Reiki had just established a contract with Immortal Land, he was under a sort of "novice protection period," preventing Chodori from challenging him directly.
"Let's keep watching. If the opportunity arises, we should reach out to him," said the pink-haired loli, swinging her legs thoughtfully. "That potion might be useful to us."
...
The current battle between Reiki and Dark Night was different from any before. The more proficient Reiki became in manipulating magical chakra, the more potent his attacks grew. This time, Reiki fought with a specific aim: to inflict injuries on Dark Night.
Dark Night, thrown off by Reiki's unusual tactics, made uncharacteristic mistakes, leading to a few more wounds than before. Nonetheless, after a full day, Reiki was ultimately defeated again. Dark Night, though, wasn't unscathed.
"Reiki, could you tell me more about the ingredients for the Dragon Essence Potion?" Dark Night asked, licking his wounds and eyeing Reiki with anticipation and newfound respect. It was clear that Dark Night fully recognized Reiki's worth as a contractor.
At that moment, the three girls with pink hair appeared.
"Eldest sister, second sister, third sister," Dark Night said, lowering himself respectfully.
"We wanted to come and observe. We didn't expect this boy to do so well," said the pink-haired loli with a smile.
"Indeed, he's impressive," Dark Night replied carefully. He knew that of all beings in time and space, these three were the most formidable—nightmares even to the proudest of dragonkind.
"Sisters?" Reiki asked, taking a breath to recover.
Dark Night nodded. "Yes."
Reiki collected his thoughts. "Some of the ingredients needed for the Dragon Essence Potion come from the ninja world, but others I've never encountered. I'll need your help to find them. The ingredients include Sky Essence Grass, Earth Vein Flower, and Vitality Vine…"
Reiki listed the ingredients he knew. These plants were so rare he had only heard of them through obscure texts, if at all.
"Is that all?" the pink-haired loli and Dark Night said simultaneously.
"Miss?" Dark Night looked puzzled.
"Am I not allowed to listen?" the pink-haired loli said, narrowing her eyes.
"No, no, of course you can," Dark Night said quickly. "I'll go search for the ingredients. Reiki, you—"
"Wait!" Reiki jumped up before Dark Night could leave, seemingly revived by sheer determination. "Let me treat you first!"
Dark Night sighed, a little embarrassed by Reiki's insistent desire to heal. This boy was not just a medical ninja—his obsession bordered on compulsion.
After another round of treatment, Reiki received another Dragon Essence Potion and some basic rewards. Though there were no special bonuses this time, Reiki felt satisfied.
"Dark Night, as a token of our partnership, I'd like to give you something. We're partners now, fighting side by side," Reiki said, offering a bottle of the Dragon Essence Potion.
Dark Night's eyes gleamed with acceptance. "To our partnership!" He took the potion, and a powerful bond solidified between them.
Reiki felt a tug, signaling that his time in the Immortal Land was coming to an end. While he wanted to stay longer, fight more, and explore other creatures in the realm, thoughts of his comrades outside nagged at him. They were likely worried about him.
A ripple of energy enveloped Reiki, signaling his imminent departure.
"Eldest sister, second sister, third sister, I'll take my leave now..." Dark Night began.
"Hand it over," the pink-haired loli demanded, extending her hand.
"But—" Dark Night started, then faltered under her sharp gaze. "Alright…"
Dark Night opened his mouth, reluctantly letting the potion float over to her. The pink-haired loli uncorked it, and a rich, powerful aura filled the air, making her eyes widen.
"It's effective. The effects seem promising," she said. "Dark Night, we'll help gather the ingredients. Next time Reiki makes the potion, you'll share it with me. You don't mind, do you?"
"No problem," Dark Night replied.
"This one's yours. I won't take what's given to you," the pink-haired loli said, handing the potion back.
Dark Night swallowed it and promptly flew off, eager to find the necessary ingredients.
"It seems we've welcomed an intriguing newcomer to our realm. Maybe next time, we won't have to bear the brunt of the battles at the Source of Immortal Land," the pink-haired loli said, vanishing with a smile.
...
Outside, Kakashi stood in front of the dragon vein, frowning. Reiki had been missing for over a month, and worry gnawed at him. Doubts crept in, making him wonder if Reiki had truly entered Immortal Land at all. Meanwhile, messages from the village pressured them for updates on their mission. If they didn't show results soon, their efforts would be exposed.
"Kakashi, what are you thinking about?" a familiar voice called out.
"Reiki?" Kakashi's head snapped up, scanning the area, but saw nothing. "Am I hearing things?"
He sighed, feeling a mix of frustration and hope.
Suddenly, the dragon vein flared with powerful energy, and Namikaze Minato and the others appeared, sensing the disturbance.
