If Kara wanted to, the big-headed doll had no chance of escaping.
But Kara just watched it run away.
The reason was simple: the big-headed doll wasn't important. Through it, Kara had noticed something behind it. Was that an octopus?
Kara couldn't be sure if it was an octopus, but she sensed a terrifying presence, one strong enough to threaten the entire Earth.
So, the big-headed doll ran off.
Kara then turned to look at Amanda Waller and Senator Hammond, who stood beside her.
Suddenly, without warning, Kara raised her hands and grabbed both of their heads, moving with surprising speed.
"Kara?" Dani exclaimed.
"I'm not going to kill them; I just want them to forget who I am," Kara replied, not looking back. "And you, Dani, can you stop calling me by my name? Are you trying to expose our identities?"
This "Dani" was Dani Grayson, the alias Kara Kent used.
Kara continued, "Are you worried people won't know who you are?"
Dani felt a bit embarrassed. "Then what should I call you? Looking at you now, aren't you Oracle?"
Kara shrugged. "Oracle? Let's just go with Superwoman."
After all, that's how she'd first made her appearance.
Kara was like this; just as she couldn't leave Jennifer alone when she was in trouble, she had to show up when Dani was in danger.
"Superwoman? Does that mean there's a Superman too?" Dani asked, catching the nuance.
"Why 'Superwoman' and not just 'Super'? Because there's a male Superman, right?"
"Clark?" Dani asked, studying Kara's reaction closely.
Kara pretended not to hear and kept her expression neutral.
Dani, however, smirked. "Got it."
"I didn't even react!" Kara shot back, looking at Dani, somewhat exasperated.
"Come on, Kara. With all our years of friendship, if I couldn't tell, I wouldn't deserve to be your friend."
Kara sighed, knowing Dani had always had a knack for detective novels and mysteries. It was one of the reasons she got into her current line of work.
Kara finished implanting the psychic suggestion in Amanda and Senator Hammond. They wouldn't remember Kara—or that Superwoman had a doctorate.
"Alright, I'll leave you to handle things here. Find me once you're done with these two," Kara instructed Dani before turning and flying toward Green Lantern.
Green Lantern had arrived, his green light illuminating the night sky, and he seemed quite interested in Kara.
"I've heard of you, Superwoman," Hal Jordan said, intrigued.
Kara glanced at him. "Do you plan on talking here? I've been busy all day; come on, let's go somewhere quieter."
With that, Kara took off, and Green Lantern followed.
Once they reached a high altitude above Coast City, out of range of satellites, Hal Jordan introduced himself. He was just beginning his journey as the newest Green Lantern.
"I actually discovered the dead alien first. His name was Abin Sur, and this ring…" Hal trailed off, gesturing to the green ring on his finger.
But as he pointed the ring at Kara, something unexpected happened. The ring lit up brightly and seemed to be trying to leave Hal, almost as if it recognized Kara.
The green ring actually slipped off his finger, heading directly toward Kara and attempting to slide onto her left ring finger.
Kara clenched her fist just in time, causing the ring to fall short.
She looked down at it with a neutral expression, then turned her gaze back to Hal, who nearly fell out of the sky without his ring. Fortunately, Kara caught him with her telekinesis.
"What's going on?" Kara asked, clearly curious.
Hal, still new to this, was equally baffled. As he fumbled with the ring, it returned to him, and he quickly slipped it back on.
"Is it always this unstable?" Kara asked, watching him re-transform into Green Lantern. "Losing control at random? Seems risky. What if it happened in a dangerous situation?"
Hal's face paled. "But I was told it wouldn't do that! They said once a ring chooses its owner, it won't betray them unless they're unfit or dead or voluntarily give it up."
Kara frowned in thought. Suddenly, she looked up, noticing something in the night sky—a green light speeding toward her. Using her super vision, she could see it was another green ring, headed straight in her direction.
Kara sighed. Was she being recruited?
Sure enough, the second ring hovered in front of her, glowing faintly and seeming to wait for her to put it on.
Kara simply turned away and ignored it, focusing back on Hal. "Anyway, you were saying? Something about that big-headed doll?"
Hal looked between the ring hovering near Kara and her calm expression, feeling increasingly out of his depth.
Truthfully, Kara wasn't interested in the Green Lantern ring. For many, it was the universe's most powerful weapon. But to her, with her Kryptonian powers, it was more of a hassle.
The power of a Green Lantern ring came from the emotional spectrum and needed recharging every 24 hours from a lantern-shaped battery. The idea of running out of power mid-battle held no appeal for her.
Kara shook her head at the thought. She had her own powers, and that was more than enough for her.
