Well, in all fairness, the Obelisk Arm member did sense the incoming attack but due to his already crazy speed, reacting at that fraction of a second when he burst out of the ground wouldn't exactly have been an easy feat.

Looking around him, Magnus soon realized that there was a fairly shallow and short gorge formed just a few meters ahead of him along with three fairly large holes present in the destroyed walls he was facing, all leading back into the grand auction hall.
