Chapter 72: Champa Challange!!!
After learning that Goten had agreed to participate with such determination, Beerus wasted no time.
"Alright, we accept your challenge, Champa! But be ready to lose!" Beerus exuded confidence, as expected.
After all, Goten now possessed the power of a God of Destruction. Handling a few mortals in the sixth universe wouldn't be a challenge.
"Ugh!...."
"I thought you were a coward, Beerus."
"I didn't expect you to still have some fight in you, but rest assured, the loser won't be from the sixth universe. You should start thinking about how to hand Earth over to us!" Champa also wore a triumphant grin.
While Champa wasn't entirely certain about the combined power of mortals in his universe, he felt no apprehension after observing Beerus's two apprentices. These two individuals appeared weak and somewhat comical in their bulky attire.
They looked more like jesters than fighters. Champa couldn't help but think that the seventh universe was rather like that.
"Tsk! Just don't cry when the time comes," Beerus retorted, dismissing Champa's taunts. With Goten participating, the Sixth Universe was almost certain to lose.
"Snort! Don't get too cocky, Beerus."
"I'll give you ten days to prepare. In ten days, we will hold the competition on an undisclosed planet."
"Let's go, Vados," Champa declared proudly, taking Vados with him as he departed.
For Champa and Vados, the prospect of acquiring Earth from the seventh universe within ten days was a cause for celebration.
After they left, Whis approached Beerus with a concern.
"Lord Beerus, wasn't that decision rather hasty? What if the sixth universe possesses mortals with extraordinary talents? We may not secure a victory."
"And you should have clearly explained all the rules of the competition. Without established rules, it may be challenging for one person to determine the outcome of all contests."
"Hmph! I can ignore others' provocations, except for Champa, that fat pig!"
"Goten, you must win the game," Beerus said, exhaling a cold snort.
"Lord Beerus, winning the match is not an issue!" Goten asserted.
"However, I have one condition. After winning, can the Super Dragon Balls be mine?" Goten inquired. Super Dragon Balls held little significance for the God of Destruction Beerus. With Earth's delectable food, Beerus lacked any pressing wishes. However, for Goten, the Super Dragon Balls were invaluable.
Enhancing his strength was crucial, and he aspired to reach a level even higher than that of an Angel. In a world where strength abounded, the Super Shenron's wishing abilities could be a game-changer.
"Agreed! As long as you win and humiliate that fat pig Champa, the Super Dragon Balls are yours! They're not of much use to Gods of Destruction," Beerus consented without hesitation. He struggled to conceive of a wish worthy of the Super Dragon Balls.
"Thank you, Lord Beerus!" Goten expressed his gratitude. With the Super Dragon Balls, his strength was poised to increase further.
"You should get to training immediately! Don't let me down when the time comes."
"It appears that I didn't fully wake up earlier. I'll go catch up on my sleep," Beerus yawned, retreating to his temple.
...
"Then let's continue training," Whis instructed the two of them.
"Whis, we've been here for a month, and I want to go back to Earth to check on things."
"It will be good to see my mother and the others don't have to worry." Goten expressed his desire to return to Earth.
It had been a whole month since he left, and he couldn't predict any potential crises on Earth. Chichi and Videl must be very worried by now.
"Sure, I'll take you there!" Whis readily agreed and prepared to send them back. He had his own plans in mind as well, especially regarding the delightful Earth cuisine.
During the past month, the delicacies from Earth had almost been devoured, so this return trip offered a perfect opportunity to enjoy some fresh treats and, of course, take some back with them.
"Okay, then!" Goten understood Whis's intentions but was not going to pass up the chance to indulge in Earth's delectable food. He thanked Whis for the training and their good camaraderie during the past month.
"You don't have to be so formal with me; we're friends now!" Whis replied with a hint of embarrassment. After all, his primary motivation for visiting Earth was the food.
...
-Half an hour later-
The trio arrived back on Earth, directly in Near West City.
"Goten, I suddenly sensed a very weak energy presence," Krillin remarked. "It doesn't feel like the Ki of ordinary Earthlings."
Upon entering West City, Krillin was immediately aware of an unusual energy signature. Although this Ki had been strong, it had now grown faint, possibly due to an injury.
"I felt it too, and it seems to be emanating from Aunt Bulma's Capsule Corporation," Goten agreed.
"Whis, why don't you go ahead and search for some delicious food?" Goten suggested. "We sensed something strange, and we need to check it out."
"Alright, I'll find you after I've gathered some food," Whis nodded without hesitation. He had no interest in Earth's affairs, his focus firmly on culinary exploration.
With that settled, Goten and Krillin used Instant Transmission to appear directly at Bulma's Capsule Corporation.
Bulma, who had been anxiously pacing in the yard, exclaimed, "Goten... Krillin!"
"I'm so glad you're here!" Seeing Goten and Krillin suddenly appear, Bulma's anxious demeanor transformed into one of relief.
"What's going on, Aunt Bulma? Has something happened?" Goten inquired.
"We felt a very faint Ki emanating from the Capsule Corporation just now," Goten added, noticing Bulma's distressed expression. It was clear that something significant had occurred.
"It's Trunks. He just returned covered in injuries!"
"I didn't know what to do, so I'm relieved you're here," Bulma explained.
Only a few minutes ago, Trunks had suddenly arrived in the yard in a time machine, his body battered and bruised. He had promptly lost consciousness upon exiting the time machine, which had deeply alarmed Bulma. Unable to reach anyone else, she had grown increasingly anxious.
"Trunks?"
"Didn't he go back with Vegeta and Goku to the planet King Kai?" Krillin questioned Bulma, his expression perplexed.
However, Goten immediately grasped the situation.
The Trunks Bulma was referring to was not the young Trunks from this world; he was the future Trunks who had traveled from a different time and space using a time machine.
This implied that Zamasu from the future had emerged as a threat, and Trunks had come to this time and space seeking assistance. What puzzled Goten, though, was that Future Trunks should have been aware that Goku and Vegeta were killed by Cell during the Cell Saga. Why would he still come to this time and space for help?
"I'm talking about the future Trunks."
"Goten, please take a look!" Bulma explained with anxiety in her voice. Her history with Trunks had been one of concern and loss, so seeing him severely injured from the future pained her deeply.
"Don't worry, Aunt Bulma," Goten reassured her before heading into the room. Inside, he found Future Trunks lying on the bed, covered in wounds, with blood staining his body. He clenched his teeth in pain and fear, his face a mixture of anguish and determination.
"Goten, could you fetch some Senzu Beans from Korin?" Bulma hurriedly requested, knowing the incredible healing properties of the Senzu Beans, capable of reviving even the gravest injuries.
"No need; I can heal Trunks," Goten responded. Placing his hand gently on Trunks' chest, a green healing energy spread throughout Trunks' body. Wounds began to mend visibly, and his depleted Ki gradually recovered.
"Ugh!... Damn... Damn it!" Trunks muttered as his wounds closed and his energy returned. He clenched his fists tightly and continued to express his distress until all his injuries were healed, and his Ki was fully restored.
Trunks' eyes snapped open, and he leaped out of bed, his eyes blazing with anger. In one swift motion, he picked up his Brave Sword and took to the air, slashing fiercely toward Goten. To him, Goten looked exactly like the individual who had destroyed Earth in his timeline, and he suspected that this person had followed him.
"Trunks, stop!" Bulma shouted as she saw the newly revived Trunks attacking Goten.
Goten extended his thumb and index finger to effortlessly block Trunks' Brave Sword. "Trunks, calm down," he said in a calm tone. "I'm not your enemy."
Upon hearing Bulma's voice and recognizing Goten, Trunks seemed to snap out of his hostile mindset. He realized that Goten was different from Black Goku. Their clothing, eyes, and size were distinctive. Trunks swiftly turned his head and noticed Bulma and Krillin in the room.
"Mom... Mom!! Krillin." Trunks gazed in disbelief at the scene before him. He remembered vividly that Black Goku had killed his mother to ensure his successful journey to the past. However, the woman before him looked much younger and more beautiful, which meant he had indeed arrived in a different time and space.
"M... Mother..." Trunks embraced Bulma, overwhelmed by the rush of painful memories and emotions.
"It's alright, Trunks. You won't have to endure that again." Bulma consoled him, gently patting his back, fully empathizing with his sorrow.
After a few minutes of embracing his mother, Trunks turned his attention to Goten. "Are you... Goku?" Trunks inquired with uncertainty. The individual before him was much younger than Goku, but their resemblance was striking. Had something happened to make Goku younger?
"Ugh!..." Both Goten and Krillin were taken aback by Trunks's question. It was understandable that he could mistake Goten for Goku, given that Goten had not been born yet in the timeline Trunks came from.
"Trunks, he's not Goku," Bulma quickly clarified. "Goku, Vegeta, and the other fighters were all killed by Cell eight years ago when they fought. He is Goten, Goku's son and Gohan's younger brother."
"Nani?? Goku's son. And...you mentioned that Goku in this time and space was killed by Cell?" Trunks looked utterly incredulous. In his timeline, Goku had indeed fallen to Cell, but his father, Piccolo, and Gohan had joined forces to defeat Cell. Had he mistakenly traveled to the wrong time and space?
"Yes, that's right, eight years ago," both Bulma and Krillin said with sadness in their voices, reminiscing about their lost friends and loved ones.
"Wrong! It appears I've truly arrived in the wrong time and space... In that case, it's over!! The time machine's energy is depleted," Trunks admitted with regret. He had used the last of the time machine's energy to seek help from this past time and space, hoping that Goku and Dad could handle Black Goku. Now, in the wrong time and space, he questioned the fate of his own time and space.
"Trunks, the power Goten possesses now has completely surpassed Goku and Vegeta, reaching an unimaginable level for Goku and the others!" Krillin reassured him, attempting to lift Trunks's spirits.
"What?? Are you saying... Goten is stronger than Goku and Dad?" Trunks responded with disbelief. It was challenging for him to accept because Goten was still quite young, and it seemed impossible for him to surpass his father and Goku.
"Yes, and by a considerable margin," Krillin affirmed.
Just then, a potent, malevolent Ki suddenly emanated from the Earth, and simultaneously, a colossal, purple-black rift opened in the sky above Near West City...
