One second passed.
Two seconds passed.
The Unicorn flung Iberis out and with no emotional attachment whatsoever, began to turn his back on Alice in a desperate attempt to escape while screaming. He had an understanding.
A hostage was meaningless to the "fear" in front of him. Even if he snatched the kidnapped girl and murdered her, in the next moment, he would certainly be lost his life as well. Yes, for certain. He will be killed.
Nothing he can do will avert that. Regardless of what he does, he will end up dying.
The Unicorn understood this from the depth of his heart. The instant he met Alice's burning right eye, his "heart" died as if he had been subjected to an electric shock. Abandoning everything and attempting to elude, the… Unicorn collapsed to the ground in a heap.
His right leg was missing, as well as his right arm. His body slammed heavily into the floor without even being able to catch himself.
"Gah…!"
He grunted slightly and looked back with his butt on the ground. His face was warped with terror.
"Don't come…. d-don't come… no, no! Noooooo!"
Alice stepped forth again, as if unhindered by anything. Then she reached out her right hand towards the Unicorn, which was frantically trying to crawl away. The distorted Bandersnatch that had been lingering in rainbow colors passed through space and seized the horse-headed Nightmare. There were two heads, which seemed to be in the process of separating themselves, but each Bandersnatch enveloped the Unicorn.
"Stop… Stop it! I don't want to disappear… No! I don't want to disappearrrrrrrrrrrrr!"
His pleading voice morphed into a scream midway through. Slowly, as if squeezing, the Bandersnatch tightened. A stream of black blood splattered across the ground.
"Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!"
The Unicorn convulsed with a jerk. The crooked and bent "that" gradually dissolved like mud and turned into dust, dispersing into the air.
"Master… Lewisssssssssss!"
That was his last moment. Alice waved her arms lightly. The crushed and crumpled Nightmare was slammed against the wall.
"Aa… ga…"
The Unicorn, no longer in his pristine form, was barely "alive". But gradually he was fading into fragments of data and disappearing.
Alice, with her distorted Bandersnatch surrounding her body, slowly passed by Jack and then Iberis. She lifted the Dáinsleif that was lying on the ground with her hand.
Right before Jack's eyes, who could not utter a sound, Alice swung it at the Unicorn as if it were a blunt weapon. Exclamations resounded throughout the underground passage.
Once.
Twice.
Thrice.
And then a fourth.
As if to gouge out the crushed parts, she sliced them up with the Dáinsleif. While doing so, Alice's countenance was overwhelmingly "expressionless".
After mauling the Unicorn for a while, she raised her other arm, the one gripping the Dáinsleif. The Bandersnatch moved, gripping what appeared to be the Unicorn's neck and lifting him up.
Alice shifted the Bandersnatch carrying the Dáinsleif and began to slowly thrust the blade into the white sphere… embedded in the Unicorn's chest, his core.
A dreadful squeal, a language no longer in its proper form, erupted from the Nightmare's mouth.
"If you don't want to suffer any further, do as I say." Alice carried on plainly as though she were a machine. "Call Lewis Carroll."
The core of the unicorn was fractured with a snap. The horse-headed Nightmare wanted to jerk his head around and was screeching like a mess. That hell lasted a few tens of seconds, and…
Pang! The Unicorn's core burst with a dry sound. The direction of the force of the Dáinsleif shifted, and it pierced the wall. Just like sludge, the Unicorn collapsed, his body scattered on the ground.
Alice directed her attention towards the sound of clapping, which echoed merrily. The light of the Bandersnatch reflected that destination. In the underground passage, only a few feet away.
Lewis was standing there.
◇
"…"
The Bandersnatch that Alice was clad in caught the Dáinsleif and positioned it. Alice was no longer in the shape of a "human". It was an eerie "something" in the guise of a misshapen giant.
In the fragments of the unicorn that scattered to Lewis' feet, there was a part of his face. With his protruding eyeballs, the Unicorn stared up at Lewis, his throat convulsing as he strained to speak.
"He… he… lp… me… Mas… ter… Le… wis…"
Lewis stomped on that as if it was nonexistent. Then he confirmed that the Unicorn had fully reduced to dust and disappeared, stuck his hands in the pockets of his white coat, and confronted Alice. He then laughed with genuine enjoyment.
"Brilliant!" He exclaimed in a high-pitched tone. Slowly he pulled his hands out of the pockets of his white coat and spread them out to the heaven. "I'm so… impressed right now. It's wonderful… and beautiful. This is a form of 'pure exacerbation'…!"
For a while, Alice studied Lewis with a blank expression. The expression on her face was bizarrely tranquil. Strangely enough, it was calm.
"Oh… Alice…. my Alice. Come over here more often and let me get a better look at that face…"
Lewis stepped out, spreading his hands wide. At that moment, the Bandersnatch that Alice was clad in swung the Dáinsleif with all its might.
