The man kept her in place. "Stay put if you don't want to die. I don't need your help." He was determined to take down the guards on his own.

"You're an idiot to think you can leave this place. Lord Ahren has arranged a good number of knights to protect his esteemed guest. If you're smart, you know the Ahrens are a family of knights. Even if you are skilled, you won't last long."

The man's attention was caught by the approaching footsteps, and he heard Erin speak again. "I was aware of your presence here, but I didn't alert anyone. That means I am not your enemy. Be smart. I have a way to get you out."

"If you hadn't interrupted me, I would have finished my job by now."

"You might get another opportunity if you aren't caught tonight. Be sensible and let me show you a way out."

The tip of his knife made a small cut on her neck. "If you act smart, I won't care if I'm caught, but I will make sure you won't live to see the next day."
