It was the usual morning in Kor City where people are busy with their own stuff and work. Meanwhile, two people are currently in a black car driving in a certain direction on the main highway of the city.
Today is the day that Curt would be taking the assessment so that his esper power could be determined. Beside him is Jenny Mae who is currently deep in thought.
Right now, her mind once again remembers that masked guy and the things that have happened in the forest two days ago.
When she learned that Curt is an esper, she was a bit excited that she already called the association. But last night while trying to sleep her mind suddenly remembers the masked man. She could not help but be afraid as if she was caught cheating. Although she knew that she is not guilty, but she could not help but feel this way from the way she acted with her senior, Alan Kane.
Right now, she is prying that her conjecture was wrong and that the masked man is not Curt. Yesterday was the first time she felt some form of happiness in her heart. She wanted that thing, that small happiness she felt when they are together that day.
She knew that it could cure her fear and trauma when it comes to having a relationship. She knew that it is a bit shameless of her to hold unto him a bit longer, but she is already reaching her goal.
But then her mind is somewhat a mess when she thinks of her senior, Alan Kane. She knew that she likes him and that she is doing these things to prepare herself when that time comes that an opportunity would present itself for the two of them to be together.
But ever since that masked man talked to her about being disloyal to her boyfriend, she could not help but be guilty and stop thinking of her selfish reasons. Everything is a mess now, she did not know if she truly loves Alan Kane or Curt Nilfiem. But one thing she knows of, Curt truly loves her. And he is a sure way for her to be happy.
Meanwhile, Alan Kane is a bet, whether he would truly give her happiness or pain. But in her heart, she would like him no matter what.
Now, these complicated emotions made her just seat on the side while looking outside the car window.
Curt knew that she is in deep thought so he should not disturb her. But how could he let this opportunity pass?
So he began talking to her and telling her some small jokes that come to his mind. Those are some of the jokes that he suddenly remembers that Tang Nei likes.
Pfft… Hahaha…
Happiness could be heard inside the car as Jenny Mae could not help but laugh.
Soon, they arrive in the association's building where most new espers are tested of their power. This government building is a bit busy because of esper preparation training for the young. The people that could be seen in this place right now are those children reaching the age of 8-10 years old with their parents or guardians.
They are going here to apply for basic esper training just in case their children would wake their esper power. It is a prerequisite of the government to discover more people with esper power.
Today, Jenny Mae wore blue fit jeans which insinuate her lovely curves and well-proportioned hips and buttocks paired with black rubber shoes. Then for her top, she wore a fitted sleeveless shirt and a black leather jacket.
Meanwhile, Curt just wore a simple gray T-shirt, dark blue jeans, and gray sneakers.
As the two walked down the hall they caught the attention of many parents and children.
"Papa, are those two espers?" asked a child who is standing in line with her father.
"Umm… I think so… Aren't they cool? If you became an esper you will be as handsome as the guy over there." the father replied with a smile.
Everyone in the city really admires espers and their powers. Even though they live a dangerous life outside the forest, yet they are able to live a good and luxurious life in the city. And this is the reason why the line of people on the side is a bit long. Many are hopeful that their children could activate their esper power at a young age.
From there, the local government would be supporting their family and this comes with some fame and or course fortune and power.
In this line of people, a young father's expression suddenly changes. His calm and happy demeanor suddenly changes into astonishment and doubt.
He doubted if what he saw correct.
But suddenly, his 8-year-old daughter who is standing beside him suddenly looks in the direction he is looking at, then exclaimed.
"Dad, isn't that older cousin Curt? Why is he in the association? He was then abandoned by uncle Boie, right?" the young pleasant voice of the child has gained some attention in the line of people.
The father looks at his daughter and a serious expression appears on his face. He did not mistake it, that guy is really Curt Nilfiem, his trash nephew, someone who is weaker than a normal person and left home because he didn't want to shame his parents and younger brother.
In fact, he didn't like that nephew of his. He was the shame of the Nilfiem family who has a bit of standing in the province.
"You're right… I think the association should know who is entering this place. They should not let just anyone enter this prestigious establishment." The man said with a sneer on his face.
He has also seen the woman walking with his nephew. The woman might be an esper, but she is not very beautiful and just has an average look. The only attractive feature of the woman is her phoenix eyes.
"He must be a gigolo of that woman… her plaything…" he muttered.
But his words were heard by some who are closer to him and some nodded their heads while others just give a casual glance at the two figures who have already turned the corner.
Suddenly, security personnel walks by and the man grabs this opportunity to inform the guard of his 'kindly' gesture.
"Hello, officer, sir… May I ask… Can any normal person enter that place over there?" his tone with a hint of inquiry while pointing at the direction where Curt and Jenny Mae left.
When the security personnel saw where he is pointing, a frown appears on his face.
"No, that is off-limits. Only espers are able to enter that place." The guard replied with a cold tone.
"Really, well… I saw two people, a young woman and a young man entering that place. I don't know about the woman, but the young man is a normal man. He is no esper."
When the guard heard those words, his expression suddenly changed. Then he reached for the small radio on his shoulder and suddenly said.
"We have a breach in the test area… a female and a male pair. They are suspected to be normal…" he said then ran towards the direction of the test area where Curt and Jenny Mae disappear.
Meanwhile, the man showed a scowl on his face. In fact, he is the cousin of Curt's father and is a bit jealous of their family. Curt's mother is a powerful esper and holds a high position in the Nilfiem family though she is not a Nilfiem.
However, her power and her business acumen have gained the favor of the elders in the family hence she began running almost 50% of their business outside of Kor City.
Meanwhile, Curt's father has been her right hand. He too is an esper and is very good when it comes to negotiations. Hence the two are tandem in making the Nilfiem family business grow. But no matter how great the two did, their eldest son still did not escape being ostracized by the family.
They can protect their son, but Curt did not let them, hence he run away from home.
The accomplishment of the couple had gained the envy of some of the normal family that carries the Nilfiem blood. Those who are greedy for fame and fortune and are jealous have taken every opportunity to hurt Curt and the man is one as such.
"Hehe… I thought this weak nephew of mine has already left the city. I never would have expected him to still be here." The man thought with a scowl on his face.
"Since I saw you, then I could just bully you… plus that esper lady looks plain and average. If she really wanted someone to warm her bed then… Hehe… this uncle can satisfy her more than that weakling."
A lascivious smile appears on his face but then faded in that instance. He knew of the weak temperament of that nephew of his and knows that if he threatens him a little, he would get what he wanted from him.
It was like that back then and he knew that it would still be like that now.
While the man is dreaming of some perverted thoughts in his mind, a couple of guards have already blocked the path of Jenny Mae and Curt.
"Miss, please cooperate with us. We do not allow any normal person inside this area. For you and your companion's safety please stop walking." A guard said while putting one of his hands on the handgun on his side.
Jenny Mae showed a confused expression on her face. The two have already stopped and are now surrounded by the guards. But the aggressive stance of the guards has already annoyed her. She has already called the association and is here for an esper test, why are they stopping them now?
"I am…" Jenny Mae wanted to say something when she suddenly saw a guard pulling his gun.
This immediately stunned her and the other guards who have not reacted in this situation.
How could one of them pull their gun without warning?
But then it was already too late.
