Bab 16: Chapter 16 – The lioness

It was already night time when Curt Nilfiem hailed a public tricycle for Jenny Mae Lee. A tricycle is the common public transport for the city not including those motorcycles which are more in use as it is more convenient and cheaper than cars or a cab.
After that he decided to walk home himself, however, he suddenly feels an ominous feeling in his heart which made him feel uncomfortable.
Turning his gaze towards the direction of where the tricycle is going, Curt immediately knew that his anxious and restless feeling is related to Jenny Mae.
Hence without a second thought, he suddenly sprinted forward and chase after the tricycle.
However, he wasn't able to do so as his stamina is getting weaker as he ran with all his might. And so he decided to run on a normal phase. He also knew the direction where she would always get off. Though he didn't know where she lives, he has an idea of where she always gets off.
And so he ran to that direction.
After paying the driver her fare, Jenny Mae donned on her hood and covered her head. Unknown to her in a dark alley there stood a man who is watching her through the cover of the darkness. On the ground, a bunch of cigarette butts can be seen which is evident that the man has been waiting in this place for a while now.
After seeing her figure walking away, he immediately fished out his mobile phone and dialed a number.
"She has arrived…" the man said and after dropping the call and stashing the phone in his side pocket a small grin appears on his face.
"Hehe… Espers might be powerful, but we already have our fair share of hunting them. It's your bad luck little missy." He muttered as he threw the butt of the cigarette to the ground and secretly followed the young woman.
However, unknown to the guy, another figure suddenly appears. Although he is panting and trying to catch his breath, he still arrives just a few seconds after Jenny Mae alighted from the vehicle she was in a moment ago.
Curt realized that if he uses the LEP energy in his body, his stamina would recover gradually and his speed would become faster. He just learned this after his mind showed him how to do such a thing while running.
Hence his speed gradually increases. But of course, he still felt a bit tired after that long run. Hence he arrived panting. But his fatigue was suddenly washed away and was exchanged with anger at what he is seeing.
He clearly saw that murderous gaze from the man. And now he is following behind Jenny Mae. Hence without a second thought he immediately rushes forward and using a skill he didn't know he knew, he arrives near that man without alerting the guy.
But the man is a professional that is even able to fight against an esper. Hence he is able to detect the slight killing intent from behind him and without a word, suddenly put his hand inside his pocket and with a quick movement of his body swing a folded knife towards the person behind him.
However, he soon found himself unable to move as a strong grip locked his arm holding the knife.
The man's eyes went wide in disbelief as he never expected that someone is able to dodge that fast sneak attack from him.
This is because his movement was too fast that even an esper could not have time to dodge, and all they can do is wait for their necks to be sliced off.
He has done this many times and in all those times, he only failed twice. That is when facing those really powerful espers and martial arts experts like his boss. And now this is the third time.
Crack…
Suddenly the man's stupor was awoken by a sound. Then suddenly a pang of surging pain assaulted his brain making him grimace. But before a sound escaped his mouth, his vision suddenly darkens and he fainted on the ground.
Curt has been consolidating some of the skills in his mind and is always practicing in absorbing the LEP energy in the air. Hence when the man moves and did that sneak attack, his adrenaline suddenly kicks in making the man's movement seem sluggish.
It was easy for him to catch that guy's arm and with a slight apply of strength was able to break it. If he can manipulate stones while sculpting, how can mere flesh and bone stand his technique?
That's right, he didn't use his own strength to break the guy's arms, he uses the same technique as when he sculpts those hard rocks.
And before the guy can scream, he immediately made him faint.
Curt drags that guy's figure to the dark alley and immediately followed behind Jenny Mae.
He could not let anything happen to her. Though he knew that she is a powerful esper, his heart still feels worried and restless.
But once he turns to a corner, what greeted him is something he never expected.
He saw Jenny Mae fighting against ten people holding weapons like knives and machetes. Some even have those spiked baseball bats as they brandish them in the air.
Curt was a bit taken aback, not because of the ferocity of those people, but because of what Jenny Mae is doing to them.
He could have never thought that she is able to do such a thing without batting an eye. This is because, whenever she gets a chance, Jenny Mae would not hold back and would deal with killing blows to those people. She was ruthless and decisive in fighting those people.
This time, he notices that she is not using her esper power. Although he can see that her fighting prowess is not that refined, a little brute even, but it was efficient. No extra movements are being used and her every strike is a killing blow.
But those ten people are also not pushovers. They were able to dodge those killing blows and counter. This shows their experience in doing such a thing and this shows that these people are not just normal thugs.
However, Curt also noticed that on the other side, there are a few youths holding weapons while looking at the fight. When he saw that their eyes are looking at Jenny's figure with killing intent, he knew that they are up to no good.
Since she can hold her own in front of those ten people fighting against her, Curt decided to deal with the rest of her assailant hiding in the shadows.
He fished out a talisman inside a small pouch which he always keeps in his side pocket. Then from the ground, he picks up a handful of thumb-size pebbles.
Curt didn't hesitate and began using the talisman as a channel to accelerate the pebbles as he flicks them towards those figures hiding in the shadows.
Swoosh!!! Swoosh!!! Swoosh!!!
The sound of pebbles flying through the air can be heard but was drowned by the sound of the fighting which is happening in the street.
However, the target of those pebbles was not that quiet as they found themselves tumbling to the ground with an agonizing pain from where the pebble hit them.
"Arrgghh!!! My hand… I think my hand is broken…"
"Ahhh… My chest… I can't breathe…"
"Arrgghh…"
Those who were hit in their body, arms, or legs, fell to the ground crying in pain, while those who were hit on their head would immediately faint and bleed.
This horrible scene made those people fighting against Jenny Mae a bit disrupted. And she didn't waste this chance.
Jenny immediately made her move and using one of the knives on the ground, she began hitting those people in their vital spots. And in that instant, four of those assassins immediately died.
Her ruthless moves and unhidden killing intent made those assassins took a few steps back. Seeing the lifeless body of their companions and a pool of blood slowly spreading to the ground, made the assassins felt fear in their hearts.
They should be the ones doing the killings not the other way around.
But then it was already too late to back out. Hence the one who seems to be the leader of the group suddenly fished out a revolver from inside his jacket.
When they saw their leader doing so, the rest also followed suit and also fished out their own firearms.
They should have done this from the start but has underestimated the young woman. This is because their aim is not to kill her but to humiliate her first and then turn her into a cripple. This is the instruction given to them by their employer. But everything is not going their way, hence their leader decided to just be done with it and just kill the woman before they all would be killed by her.
However, how could Curt let them have their way? With a quick move, he immediately flung six pebbles hitting those people's hands holding the guns.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The sound of cracking bones can be heard as the hands of the assassins holding the firearms that were hit by the LEP powered pebbles, broke.
Jenny's quick reaction to this made everyone dumbfounded. This is because she didn't hesitate and immediately made her move. Her ruthlessness and ferocity which resembles that of a hunting lioness were displayed in front of their eyes.
And it didn't take long before the rest of the assassins fell to the ground and died with stab wounds on the vital parts of their bodies.
After that fight, Jenny Mae's gaze went towards the direction from where those energy-covered stone pebbles came from.
But she saw no one in that direction.
She was really amazed at the prowess of the esper that helped her. She knew that without that person's help she would really suffer in the hands of those black-clothed assassins that look like ninjas from the country of Jap.
However, she has no time to linger as she needs to escape this place.
"It seems that my cover was blown." She muttered as she quickly left the area blending her figure within the shadows.
Meanwhile, Curt is already far away walking towards his own home. His mind could not forget that ferocious figure fighting against those black-clothed people. He was astounded and a bit surprised that his girlfriend has such a ferocious fighting ability.
Thought it sends shivers down his spine it also made him feel happy. At least he was able to help her secretly which made him heaves a sigh of relief.
But then another worry pops out of his mind.
"I should not make her angry, no matter what." He muttered.
