Jia Xinyue watched happily as Kian was strolling around the area, allowing her to view everything clearly.
Suddenly, she heard sound similar to… high heels clicking on a marble floor? Very nice sounding, but it meant that someone else was in the system!
A woman with a ravishing body stood a few metres away. Her wavy chestnut hair was styled perfectly, falling over one shoulder. She wore a skin-tight red dress and had matching red heels. Jia Xinyue winced slightly at the height of those heels, and thought –
[666 I'd break my ankle in those]
As well as –
[100% model material someone sign this woman up please and thank you]
The woman, upon seeing Jia Xinyue's appearance, was startled. She coughed lightly and walked a little closer to Jia Xinyue, who instantly moved back.
[Damn, do I really look that bad?]
"Who are you?" she asked. She wished that Kian was here as well.
The system was located inside his soul, which meant that she was inside Kian's soul. What if she was here to do something? But Jia Xinyue couldn't feel any malevolence coming from the woman.
The woman bit her bottom lip slightly, before saying,
"I'm like you."
Jia Xinyue was surprised. Like her… so, human? Or was she referring to the weird system situation she found herself in?
"You'll be able to travel around like me once you finish this world. For now, I'm giving you these to help," she walked closer and pulled out a keyboard, a mouse, and a headset.
"You can connect this onto any of the screens. The headset allows you and your host to communicate," the woman explained carefully.
Jia Xinyue held up a finger.
"Wait. So you're telling me that there are more humans like me being forced to be a system? What kind of sh*tty system is this?!" she said fiercely.
Crossing her arms, she continued.
"Anyways, I'm sure this whole thing is inhumane and against the law."
The woman in red chuckled lightly, and showed a small but sad smile.
"Not really. It will take much longer for me to explain everything. I don't have time," she said, looking around.
"They will find me. I need to go."
Having said this, the woman tapped the space next to her, and to Jia Xinyue's surprise, a holographic orange screen appeared from thin air.
She tapped a few buttons, and a void appeared beside her.
"I'm so sorry. Good luck."
And with that, the mysterious woman in red disappeared.
[Why did she apologise?]
Jia Xinyue looked down at the equipment the woman gave her. She's seen these on the shop, but they were at an unholy price.
Why did the woman give this to her? Who was chasing her?
She put on the headset, and connected it to the video screen. She blew ever so slightly into the microphone, and watched Kian fall down from his chair.
Laughing, she said giddily,
"I guess I can communicate with you now after all."
Now, she can actually do something. She read a lot of manuals, memorised different herbal plants. Now she could help. She just hoped that she wouldn't become a "S*kura" all over again. The characters, who said that they've gotten stronger, and will not let others beat them down, then get beaten down literally in the next page.
There is no way this old grandma would happily become cannon fodder! She may not be main character material, but she is stubborn enough to at least try not to die.
Kian whispered happily, "Big Sis! Did you find something?"
"Mhm. I'll tell you about it later."
She connected the keyboard and mouse onto the screen as well, and with a bit of tinkering, she managed to change the perspective of the video from first person to third person perspective. By dragging the mouse, she could change the angle.
She quickly dragged the angle until she could see "Lan Wei".
[Wow, he looks totally different from Kian]
What she couldn't do, was unlocking the camera from Lan Wei. When she tried to do so, a grey error sign popped up, stating that her "system level" wasn't high enough.
How does she even increase her system level? Upgrading? But she's human, how would that even work?
Jia Xinyue turned her attention back onto the woman in red from earlier.
How high was her level?
"Anyways. How's the situation?" she asked.
Jia Xinyue's cheeks flushed from excitement. Sitting behind a screen, a pure black headset with one of those fancy mics on her… she's just like a spy! Or a secret agent! Minus the fact that she's not that good at kicking ass!
[Once I get a body, I will.]
Kian replied, "I'm going out. The tournament is starting soon."
The screen shifted as Kian decided to jump out the window, and into the crowd, causing a couple people nearby glare at him.
"Don't be an ass, Kian," she said, rolling her eyes.
She watched as Kian went around the pop up stalls set up around the pagoda, buying a couple of healing elixirs for the tournament.
She propped her chin up on her hand.
"When does it start?" she asked.
"I told you earlier that it starts soon!" he responded with an exasperated huff.
"Ah. There it is."
Jia Xinyue stared at the screen. There, she saw Cloud Leader Hua, Flower Leader Yun, and Sword Leader Cheng sitting in a floating pavilion, high above a circular platform carved with ornate seals and symbols.
"Wow that platform is so well-designed and everyone looks so cool-"she said excitedly, gushing about everything new that she saw.
"Sorry Kian, but seriously this is amazing!"
Kian rolled his eyes but said nothing. Well, he could see where she was coming from, but after a while, you get used to it.
To the side, there was a tall man dressed in black handing out slots to all the people who passed the pagoda. Kian made his way across and received a wooden token.
"What number did you get?" she asked, curiosity written all over her face.
This whole world was a new experience for her. She had only heard about it from Kian, who had gotten used to it already. She was like a little child finally getting a toy – always cuddling with it and never wanting to stray from it.
Wordlessly, Kian turned over the token.
"We're going to die. Really? 4?" she said with a deep sigh.
"Even fate, is against our destiny of reaching the top." Upon saying this, she put her hand across her forehead in a dramatic fashion and pretended to faint.
Except she actually fell and pulled one of the wires on the screen, making her lose connection with Kian.
[…Why does this always happen?]
