Chapitre 2: Chapter 2

- Arcadia bay, Oregon, 2000.

It has been six years since my birth, and not to toot in my own horn, but I have become a very cute child, so toot-the fuck-toot. My sister and I was now six years old. I had grown to be 109 cm, which is within the average height for a boy my age. I had grown my black hair reaching my nape. I had also found out, and I shit you not when I say that, that goddess or whatever did this to show that Im a bit special, but I had gotten myself heterochromatic eyes in this life. My left eye was an almost shining green, which I had gotten from my mom Joyce, while my right was a bright blue from my father William. And while I did have a bit of baby fat, I still had sharp facial features.

Chloe had also grown a bit. She had straight strawberry blonde hair and a face with a bit of baby fat like mine, though a bit more. She had purely blue eyes though. She was 106 cm tall, so she was also in the average range in height.

Finally our parents, Joyce and William. They havent changed much at all. Our mother still worked at the diner while dad was mostly at home to take care of us. If he had work, I didnt know, but we lived pretty well. We were doted on a lot, though it seems that Chloe is the favorite child. Not that I am jealous, no, actually quite the opposite. This allowed me to learn to walk faster without them always looking at me as well as other stuff that Ill mention at a later date. I was also mentally older since I still have the memories of when I was in my mid to late twenties, so I never needed as much help with stuff as Chloe.

But back to the now six year old us. We were always together, rarely we got seperated, so when Chloe said she had gotten a new friend, can you guess it? Max Caulfield, the protagonist in the first life is strange with rewind power. Chloe had met her in the diner one day when she had asked mom to take her with her, meanwhile I was at home learning about cars from dad. But they met at the diner and almost immediatly hit it off, causing mom to make sure that they could have a `playdate´ at our place. I met her too. She was a small girl at a height of 104 cm, brown hair in a bob cut and blue eyes (welcome to the blue eye gang). They played a lot, and I must admit that I joined in once in a while. What? It looked fun, and while I might be over thirty in my head, Im still a child in body, and no child likes being left out.

But she often came over to play. Some of the games we all played were pirates like the original, tag and so on. It was a beautiful friendship. So one day in the garden behind our house we played together and started to talk a bit.

"So Alex, what do you even do with dad when were not home?" Asked Chloe.

"Hm? Oh, Im learning a bit about cars from him. You know, I actually like motorcycles better, but eh,, cars are a close second."

"Really? Its good you like it." Said Max a small shy smile.

"Dont be shy Max, were all friends here." I said.

"Right, sorry."

"Eh, no worries. Anyway, what do you guys even wanna do when we grow up?" Chloe asks.

"I myself just wanna travel and see a lot of stuff."

"Thats a good goal, but you need money for that, so what do you wanna work as?"

"Eh? Havent thought about it...."

"What about you Max?" I asked.

"Me? Well I like to take pictures with my dads camera, so maybe something with that."

"A photographer. Nice." I said and gave her a thumbs up.

"What about you Alex?"

"Well, I like cars and motorcycles, so I wanna open a garage."

"Dont we already have one?"

"Not a garage to park in, but a workshop to fix cars."

"Ah, whats the difference really?" Max asked.

She may be abnormally smart for a kid, but she still had those `Fuck, whats the answer of 2 plus 2´ moments that would throw you for a loop if you didnt know her personally. Chloe was the spontaneous type that really said `I will do what I wan- Oh is that a cookie´. She went from one thing to the other while still living with the I will do what I want mentality. I on the other hand had more or less established my personality as the quiet kid who had an interest in multiple things. One day I would go with our dad in the garage, the next Im in the kitchen learning from our mother about cooking. It helped a bit seeing as I was a chef in my previous life, so I showed her some `research notes on food´ and voìla, Im seen as a cooking prodigy.

"The difference Max, is that a car park, or a garage is a place where you can park your car while you do other stuff. A garage, or workshop is where you get your car fixed. Thats the easy version." I shrugged. They both seemed to understand my explanation this time.

After this conversation, we played some more until Max had to leave as her father had come to pick her up. Our mother soon came outside though.

"Alex, Chloe, mind helping with the food?" She asked smiling.

"Sure mom." Chloe said and ran to her.

"Of course mom" I answered and walked inside with the other two with a single thought.

`This is actually a better life than my last one´

- Timeskip 2000-2008.

Eight years had passed since the day we had the conversation about our future plans. Chloe and I were now fourteen and Max thirteen.

The last eight years had actually been quite pleasant for me. I had spent this time establishing myself as a capable son, you know, good grades, cooking, messing with cars and such. Though I had also gotten a hobby. I had started to recreate some of the best-seller books from my old world that I had found out didnt exist here. This included lord of the rings, the hobbit, hunger games, maze runner and more. They had become almost just as popular here as they were back then.

This also helped in a plan of mine. You see, the house isnt especially big. It consisted of a hallway leading to the kitchen and livingroom. Upstairs were three rooms, our parents room, the bathroom, and the room that Chloe and I had to share. Having seen this I decided that I couldnt share a room with her forever, so with the money that I had saved up from my books, I bought a camping trailer and had my dad bring it home for me. It wasnt excessively large, but large enough that I didnt go without some space inside. We had it placed on the side of the house, more like on the edge of the garden. This was done since the driveway had a slope that wouldnt exactly keep the trailer steady.

I had also started my `rebellious phase´ a bit as my parents called it. I actually didnt do much. I had just let my hair grow to just below my shoulders, gotten a piercing on my lower lip and had two earrings, one on each ear. Just a simple ring. I had also begun dressing in more black and listened to rock music, but thats another story. On top of all this, I had continued to learn about cars from my dad. What can I say? I enjoyed it.

Chloe however was still good old Chloe. The only thing that changed about her was that she had cut her hair shorter. She had gotten a choppy inverted bob with a slight fringe. It suited her.

And once again, my parents hadnt changed much other than getting older. They were still the doting parents that they had been since the start. I had even grown to love them as my own parents, though they were actually my parents here, but still, they were much better parents than my old ones. But back to the year 2008.

It was one of those days that gives you the feeling that something bad will happen, but none of us had even an inkling of what it could be. But I found out during the afternoon when dad asked us if we wanted to come when he went to pick up mom at the diner. It was the day of his death.

Bot Chloe and I decided to go with him, though I mostly went to keep Chloe safe since I didnt know what my existence might have changed. We went out to the car and got situated before dad started the car. He had put on some of his favorite country music. That was a taste he and Chloe shared. It wasnt as though I didnt like country, but it wasnt my favorite genre.

We were driving along the small roads leading us past the forest when we started a conversation.

"So, Chloe. How is your school going?" Dad asked.

"Its fine, though I dont exactly like going to school." She answered, causing both dad and me to laugh a bit.

"I know the feeling kiddo. I didnt like school either when I was your age, but hadnt it been for going to that school I might not have met your mom." He revealed.

"Wait, does that mean you and mom are childhood sweethearts?" I asked, now invested into the story. This part was never revealed in the background info back in my old world.

"Yup. Met her when we were about your age. We started off on a wrong foot, and she decided not to talk to me the entire year. One day, I saw her in the cafeteria doing some assignment and decided to look over her shoulder out of curiousity."

"Wait, so youre telling us you stalked mom." I asked deadpanned.

"Wha- NO!" He chuckled a bit.

"While she might have decided not to talk to me, it didnt mean I never tried talking to her."

"So... stalking." Chloe said with a teasing smile, causing dad to deadpan this time.

"Back to the story. I looked over her shoulder and saw that she was stuck on one of the questions. I dont remember what it was, but it was enough to stump her. I spoke up and said "If you want some help, Im always available." And thats how we began to get closer and closer, and by the time we graduated highschool, we were together."

"Romantic dad. While it started out bad, you redeemed yourself." I told him. He just chuckled at that.

"What about the two of you? Found anyone yet?"

"NO! God, dad, we are still young." Chloe said indignantly.

"Hm, maybe. That guy from the other class is cute." I said, deciding to bring them for a loop.

"I see, that gu-" Dad stopped mid-sentence as if he realized what I said.

"Wait, guy? Is that what youre into?" He asked without any specific tone in his voice, which actually scared me for a bit.

"A bit into both." I told him meekly. He alternated between looking at the road and me with an expressionless face before his face split into a big grin.

"I see. Might want to bring him over one of these days then Alex." He laughed. I could see on his face that he was shocked, but accepted it. We all went quiet until dads favorite song came on.

"Dad, can you turn it up?" Chloe asked.

"Sure thing." He responded and proceeded to do just that.

"Burning the midnight oil again. Sitting out here listening to the wind. I just called to tell you that I miss you my old friend. Burning the midnight oil again."

Before he could continue, we heard Chloe call out.

"DAD, WATCH OU-."

She couldnt finish her sentence before we felt a force hitting us from the drivers side. We were flung around while the car rolled multiple times. When it finally stopped, I could feel an immense pain from my left leg and left eye. It almost felt unbearable, but I rembered my plan, and set into action.

I could feel something wrong. I could barely stand on my leg and couldnt even see anything from my left eye, but I soldiered on. I crawled out from the car and went to the backseat where Chloe was sitting. I saw her unconscious and decided to get her out. I took off my jacket and rolled it up before laying it on the ground. I continued by opening the backdoor and took hold of her body. I carefully dragged her out, which was painful as all hell when not able to use both legs. But I got her out and put her down on the ground with my jacket as a pillow/support. I then went to my fathers side only to see his lifeless body slumped over, and quickly felt for a pulse, there was none. I couldnt help letting out a few tears. Even though I knew this would happen, doesnt mean its any less painful. I concluded that I couldnt move him in my condition. I just sat down next to Chloe and pulled out my phone. I called for an ambulance and just sat there waiting. It took them near an hour to get to us. I was close to fainting at that point, probably because of bloodloss or the pain, I couldnt tell.

The next time I woke up was in a white room that smelled like disinfectant.

"Sigh.... the hospital."
