Chapitre 3: Chapter 3

As I laid there, I started to think of the last thing I remember. I obviously still remembered the crash and how I pulled out Chloe and sat with her head in my hands, stroking her hair. After that I started to get sleepy and then black, nothing but darkness. Thats as far as my memories could recollect, but seeing as I was in the hospital, I could with confidance say that the ambulance arrived. Though I would have liked it better if they came faster, but hey, thats life for ya.

But as I lay there contemplating my actions and the happenings around the situation, the door opened to show a concerned woman with blonde hair and puffy green eyes. Joyce, or should I say mom, had arrived at the hospital.

- Flashback, Joyce POV.

I had been to work since this morning when my husband had dropped me off. I had served customers as usual, cleaned the tables as usual, and I had been waiting for the day to end so that I could come home to my family as usual. The day was thankfully almost over, so I had asked William to come pick me up. I know Chloe would most likely come with, but Alex, oh that boy would probably rather work on some engine than drive here.

As I was waiting for them to come, I was cleaning one of the tables in the corner of the diner and heard a couple of men come into the diner. I was about to turn around to greet them when I was stopped in my tracks.

"Did you hear about that car crash that happened back on the road next to the forest?" Man numer one asked.

"Yeah, I heard it. Seems like a truck driver wasnt paying attention and T-boned a car with a man and two kids inside." Number two said.

"Yeah. The kids were most likely his. But I heard that the son was the only one who kept consciousness after the crash, and with a fucked leg had managed to drag the sister out of the car as well as look at the condition of the father." Number one said.

"No way! That kid must be badass. Sad that it happened, but respect to the kid."

"Yup, respect."

I was frozen in shock. A man and two kids, one boy and one girl? Driving on the road next to the forest? I suddely had a bad feeling. I quickly grabbed my phone and dialed the number to my husbands phone, only to receive.... nothing. There was no answer. I had no choice but to keep trying Williams phone since my kids didnt have one. That would change from today though. No answer. No matter how many times I called, I received absolutely no answer.

I turned around and was about to call for my boss to say that I had something important to do when I laid my eyes on the tv we installed in a corner. It showed a picture of a destroyed car with the drivers seat completely smashed. I recognised that car. After all, I had looked at that very same car every day for the last ten or so years. That was when my stomach dropped. The screen showed a picture of two kids and a man. The reporter was talking about how the kids survived, but the man didnt. How the boy had pulled his sister out of the car while he himself had sustained worse injuries than her. And finally how they had arrived at the hospital where they were currently being treated.

I knew at that moment that I had to leave, fast. I quickly told my boss that something had happened and that I needed to leave a bit early. After that I ran outside to reach the bus that drove by every few minutes to go to the hospital a town over. I managed to reach it, but I was so restless knowing that it was my family that had been in that accident. The bus couldnt drive fast enough in my opinion. But I thankfully soon arrived near enough to the hospital to run.

I ran to the hospital. I finally came in front of the doors and hurried inside, though not running, but still relatively fast. I reached the receptionist who wanted some I.D and names of patients. Getting the room numbers, I nearly ran upstairs to their rooms. I first went to my daughters room seeing as she was the closest. She was thankfully just asleep, but then my thoughts came to my son, Alex, who they said had been awake during the entire ordeal.

I took hurried steps to a door a bit further down the hall. Room 84 was displayed on a plaque next to the room, and underneath, Alexander Price. The name of my son.

I opened the door to enter a decent sized room. It only contained a couple chairs and the hospital bed along with the necessary machines. None of that however, was of any interest to me. Only the person on top of the bed was important to me. On that bed was Alex, hooked up to several machines, left side of his face covered in bandages, but what shocked me was that he looked back at me. He was awake.

- POV MC.

As I saw my mother enter my room, I gave her a weak smile.

"Hey, mom..." I said. Seeing me, she just ran up and gave me a hug, almost as if it was the first time we had met in years.

"Im.... so happy that you are okay..." She said, crying into my chest.

"Im... fine mom. Have you gone to sis yet?"

"I have. She was still asleep, so I went to you."

"Sigh. At least she gets some rest. It wasnt a pleasant experience, so Im almost happy that she went unconscious...." I said with a sad tone in my voice.

"I feel guilty saying the same. But at least you are safe and in one piece."

"Yeah.... safe and in one piece."

The conversation somewhat died down after that. None of us knowiing what to say to the other. Me, because I felt bad that she had lost her husband and knew I had the ability to stop it. And mom, well I could only speculate it was because she felt guilty too. You know, since it happened because we went out to pick her up from work.

Time passed and the doctor had come to usher my mother outside. I was a bit happy about that. I needed some sleep. It wasnt easy keeping myself awake while still in quite a bit of pain. I also felt a bit guilty since I didnt have the heart to refute her statement `safe and in one piece´. I wasnt exactly in one piece.

- Joyce POV.

Having left my sons room because the doctor needed to do a check-up, I went towards Chloes room to see if she had woken up yet. I walked down the hall in silence. I was still grieving. I had just lost my husband, the father of my children, and was close to losing them too. This had been a scary experience, for all three of us.

I arrived at the door to her room and slowly opened the door. On the other side, I could see the outline of my daughter standing up, looking out of the window. I saw the reflection of her face and I couldnt help but feel saddened at the sight. No fourteen year old should have that look on their face. I slowly walked toward her and got behind her. Carefully, I put my arms around her smaller body and felt it tense up.

"Mom....?" She asked as she finally saw my reflection.

"Mhm.... How are you feeling honey?" I asked in the most soothing voice I could.

"I... dont know." She said, and continued to look outside.

"Have you seen Alex yet?"

"Yeah. I came here earlier, but you were still asleep, so I went to see him."

"Did you hear he was awake the entire time. Even got me out of the car and waited for the ambulance. I heard he only went unconscious just as they got there."

I blanched at that. He had experienced it all. I might have heard it back at the diner, but hearing it directly from Chloe made me realize just how close I was to losing them all.

I just kept her company while still reassuring myself that they were still with me.
