This is it. This is how I die, isn’t it?

Instead of finding a safe place and a fresh start, I’m about to be attacked by the biggest wolf that has probably ever existed.

I mean, at this point, maybe I was staring at a young dire wolf. Weren’t those extinct since the last ice age?

Not like logic was going to keep me alive at this point. The gap between the bench and the ceiling of the gazebo was too narrow for me to squeeze in between the latticework. Is this what it means to be a sitting duck?

Who would find my mangled body here at the gazebo? Probably a guest or an employee. Knowing my luck, it would be the man that took pity on me and gave me a job. He’d probably think of me from here on out as the wasted potential that ended up as part of the food chain.

The birds were no longer singing. There was no other noise besides the wolf creaking up the steps.
