Chapitre 17: Stats upgraded!

{Black Cottage, England}

{08:12 AM, 6th June, 1988}

Rigel woke up late after a tiring day yesterday, it was a fun outing, and the food was good. Although he wanted to go back to learning magic, he thought that he was in this world forever has begun to sink in, and while learning and grinding magic didn't seem to be tiring now, it will probably have its own brand of fatigue soon.

He was feeling lazy today, the silk sheets and covers were comforting on his skin, against his heartfelt wish for procrastination he woke up and summoned his status screen.

'Status'

...

After the picnic when Rigel wanted to put his points into various stats, he discovered that some of the things said about him had changed. The 'allegiance' part of his status screen which has always been blank has changed, along with his description at the end going through a couple of revisions. As long as he was not forced into making a choice he was okay with being aligned with those two houses.

His gaze though focused on his stats as he stood up and walked towards the bathroom, his thoughts were swirling as he went through the morning routine.

'It was a shit tutorial, that's what it was.'

Rigel grumbled in his mind about the weird ass tutorial he got, although he knew what most of the stats were, like Strength and Vitality he could somewhat understand. Vitality should be related to his two stats HP and SP. DEX would mean dexterity which would probably place checks when he wanted to dodge spells so that couldn't be ignored. Not that he was concerned with adding points to his physical stats, a physical exercise routine should fix those stats enough to not be pathetic.

What he was concerned about was the two magical stats, he didn't impulsively add points to his stats yesterday because he wanted to learn higher-level spells. When he used the Full-Body-Bind spell twice yesterday his EXP rose by 10 per spell, compared to the cost of using 5 mana per spell the exp gain was primarily a lot higher than using first-year spells. So in case he couldn't find dungeons he should focus on learning higher-level spells because they were clearly more effective towards leveling up.

'I got a +5 boost to all my stats in the dungeon meaning both my INT and WIS were above 10 which let me cast second-year level spells. The stat check when I tried learning the knockback jinx before did point to my low WIS. So that's a nice place to start, I wonder what my INT stat does though.'

Rigel got dressed and went straight to the library wand in hand, he waved his wand and cast the unlocking charm opening the gate.

'Let's see, maybe I should start with the Knockback Jinx, wait no no, first let's try the Full Body Bind and see if I can cheese the gamer system.'

Rigel calmed down and closed his eyes to concentrate, he opened his eyes and aimed at a nearby chair, after flicking his wand up and down twice, he drew a circle in mid-air and jabbed his wand through the circle as he chanted, "~Petrificus Totalus~"

Nothing happened, disappointed he opened his status screen and allocated 3 points to WIS making the stat an even 10 as he walked up to the shelf where he placed the books after he finished yesterday.

Rigel pulled The Standard Book of Spells- Grade 2 open and found the spell, after reading through the theory once again he levitated a nearby chair in front of him and focused. Rigel waved his wand to draw a half-infinity symbol in mid-air before jabbing through the illusionary drawing as he incanted, "~Flipendo~".

A bright blue spell left his wand whizzed through the air and struck the chair, the chair slid backward about 10 meters before it crashed into a shelf. The shelf wobbled a bit as Rigel quickly backed away fearing the worst. After a couple of dangerously close swings, the shelf thankfully didn't topple over and a new notification appeared in front of him.

...

[Spell Learned {Knockback Jinx}]

--------------------------

[Knockback Jinx(Active) Lv-1 (0/10)]

[Knockback Jinx is primarily used to repel or push objects and opponents away from the caster. It is a jinx that focuses on creating a forceful impact to knock back or topple the target knocking them off balance. The Knockback Jinx is versatile and can be used in various situations. It can be employed defensively to repel attackers or to create distance between the caster and their opponent. It can also be utilized to interact with the environment, such as moving objects or triggering mechanisms by applying a forceful push.

-5 Mana used per cast.

25% success rate.]

--------------------------

...

Rigel looked through the notification again before he looked at his mana, with just 20 Mana left he could cast this spell 4 more times before he ran out, he looked at the remaining 12 stat points and allocated one to INT.

...

[Mana: 25/30]

...

[INT- 6]

...

He noticed his mana increase by 5 for every point in his INT, he looked at the remaining 11 points and dumped them into INT.

...

[Mana: 80/85]

...

[INT- 17]

...

Looking at his bustling Mana, a sense of relief flooded him, although it wasn't much it was a start. At the very least he could grind the first-year spells to level 3 more easily and quite possibly in one sitting.

'I'm not in a hurry to level up, I should focus more on other subjects like transfiguration and potions too.'

He was pretty interested in both Transfiguration and potions. Transfiguration was a no-brainer, just saying fuck you to the laws of nature seemed like a perfect way to enjoy his new magical powers. Potions though, he was interested simply because of the advantages his gamer powers could have on it. If leveling up spells makes them consume less mana and make them easier to use, he was interested in seeing if the same applies to potions.

'How broken would it be if I could reinvent more powerful recipes or recipes that take different and easier materials to make. I could then patent those potions and make lots of money...'

...

As Rigel was daydreaming, Sirius walked up to the library, "What are you doing? How did you get in there?" Sirius was still a little dazed, he just woke up to a loud banging noise and dragged his feet along to check on what happened.

Rigel looked at Sirius who was still half-asleep, he held up his wand and shrugged.

"What are you doing so early in the morning?" Sirius dragged his feet over and plopped himself on a chair opposite to Rigel, he paused and looked at Rigel up and down as he frowned, "You already got had a shower?"

"Not everyone is a lazy bum like you, don't you have to go to your job as an auror or something?" Rigel asked.

"Yeah but not till 10, who wakes up at..." he frowned and pulled his wand out of his pj's.

"Tempus..." he whispered, "... it's 8oclock... 8!!" he half whispered half lounged as he fell flat on the table.

Rigel hesitated before he went back to his book, the mutt could be lazy on the table, that just gives him an opportunity to test a couple of spells.

'Now which one would be better, an Engorgement Charm on his hair, or a Dancing Feet Spell, or a Tickling Charm.'
