Chapitre 25: Crawl in the night

"And am I suppose to believe whatever you tell me?" said vera, raising her eyebrow in disapproval and in question. His lips curled up to a smile before saying "I want him, you need him... is that enough reason?" he asked, tilting his head sideways.

He walked backwards, as the street light that shone from behind the man ensured anonymity. His eyes stared blankly at the quiet night, sipping his drink in a glass cup.

The silent whoosh of the cold night breeze filled the eerie place. Vera's eyes wondered around the room, observing her environment. The place was dulled with dust each and every ornament, just adding to the clutter of the already paltry squalor.

Though the lightning were poor, the only light came from the glass window at the other size of the room. She averted her gaze and settled on his broad muscular back held high. His pose screamed power and eliminated wealth.

After a long silence from the both, she spoke "What exactly do you want from me? You said he was here" She said and he turned to look at her.

Taking few steps forward, he found a place for support and leaned on the wall with his crossed arm.

"I want his heir in the next two months vera" his voice was intense as his face gave out a cold look. Her thought shifted to angie and their agreement. She was about to speak when he interjected "Don't worry about angie black..." he walked away from the wall and sat in the sofa at her front with his leg crossed "...I will take care of her" he added, picking up a brown envelope from the side table, near the night stand and handed it to her.

"That's a cheque of a million USD, half of your payment. The rest would be payed when the job is done" With a serious voice, he said "No.mistakes." he stressed the words firmly, as vera glanced after him for a second before looking at the brown envelope on her hand.

"I don't need your money" she said, returning it back to him. His gaze stared at her face, giving her an irk expression.

"I don't blame the lower class, after all... money sometimes isn't their problem" he remarked, as vera glared at him in anger, gritting her teeth.

"Yes, beacause not everything is money, Mr" she interjected, standing up from the sofa.

"But am sorry, I can't. Maybe you got the wrong person for the wrong job and...I advice you drop your evil advances because messing with your senior, isn't a play game" she said and faked a smile, walking out towards the door she came out.

Before she could grab the doorknob and take a step forward, he spoke "Killing is an easy job for me especially when I lay my hands on humans, am just addicted.." he said, and stood up, walking in circle around his seat. "...and you think it would be difficult handling him" he asked and scoffed, sipping his drink with a grin.

"I guess poverty has not reck your brain that much, so don't be that selfish vera" She clenched her fist at his words, and retracted her steps, walking back.

"Well, maybe glad that poverty has impacted selfishness on me, unlike rich that uses their head instead of their brain" vera said without remorse, giving him a disgusted look.

His face fell at her words and instantly, he grasped her hands and brought her face closer. She could feel his hot breath brushing her face.

"Don't make me angry lady. I don't like people who make me angry" he warned, and pushed her forcefully, making her stumble to her feet and fell. She winced as she felt a light pain on her knee crushed to the floor. He grabbed her hair, making it taunt to his vice grip. She held his hand, struggling to release herself against his strength. The more she struggled, the more his grip tightened.

His eyes were filled with bloodlust as vera stared in those eyes. Something was off with the way he looked at her, like a hunter planning to feed on its stubborn prey.

"Listen to me vera..." His deep husky voice spoke under his teeth in a slow way. "...you are going to do what is asked of you or else... he will die even before you get to set your two eyes on him.. Is.that.clear?"

Fear bulged from her eyeballs as she felt his arm swung swiftly and impacted on her. He dragged her forcefully before throwing her on the sofa. She winced as her leg crippled in excruciating pain. Watching the little commotion he caused, he released a smile, a pleased smile.

He licked his fangs in a line, sitting down gracefully. He closed his eyes for a moment, inhaling the breeze that came out through the open window as the white curtain swayed left and right.

Vera glanced at the door and then looked at him. Her mind raced. She was prepared to make a run. Carefully, she pulled herself off the sofa, and tiptoed slowly to the door. If only she could get to the door and make an escape. A crawl in the night.

Another step forward, she stopped at this reprimanding voice.

"I guess my doubts were correct" his eyes flew open as vera held her breath. Her heart raced inside her chest as he walked to her.

"Just two months vera fetcher...Two months!" he reminded with a warning and left with a light thud.

She swallowed her saliva that stuck her throat. She held her knees, trying to fight the urge of breaking down. Why is my life like this?..she wondered to herself.
