Killian could sense the growing imbalance of power in Iris's body. Although she was now a demon, the power of the dark abyss was too much for her to handle. The dark abyss was originally a deep-seated prison. The other gods were keeping Melinoia. The place was teeming with so much power that no single creation, not even an archdemon like Killian, could control it entirely. 

The blood of the golden mermaid, a mythical creature known for its healing properties, was supposed to help Iris strengthen the boundary between her power and the dark abyss. Killian knew he had to intervene before Iris lost control completely. Thankfully, Chrysanthe's ability to brew powerful potions and tonics had improved dramatically; no doubt her Unseelie husband was teaching her. He and Zephyr might not get along very well, but Killian admitted that the Unseelie King was unparalleled in his knowledge of alchemy.
