Chapitre 130: Chapter 130 : Root
Shika moved swiftly through the forest, his mission complete ahead of schedule. The sun was setting, casting an orange glow over the trees as he followed the familiar path back toward Konoha. It had been a straightforward assignment—just some basic recon in a neighbouring area, nothing that required much effort or planning.
And that is why this was more suspicious. And especially right after what happened with those darn elders. His mind was screaming to him that this was a setup. Seeing how Danzo operates, he will be disappointed at the darkness of Konoha if this is not a setup.
Just as he was nearing the village's outskirts, he sensed something off. The air grew tense, and he noticed subtle shifts in the shadows around him.
'So it begins…huh'.
In an instant, several masked shinobi—Root members—emerged from the surrounding trees, blocking his path.
Shika's eyes narrowed. "So, were you guys trailing me or waiting for me here?" he asked, shifting his stance. These were Danzo's secret operatives, he was letting his guard down here.
He is not sure whether they are ordered to directly kill him or take him away.
Whatever it was, he wasn't going.
One of the masked ninjas stepped forward, speaking in a cold, emotionless tone. "Shika Nara, you are to come with us."
Shika smirked, 'Just like I thought, he rather me before getting rid of me, over directly getting rid of me….this means even if I kill all of these people here…"
" No thanks, I have an appointment at the Hospital, if I'm not there in time then that violent woman will punch me to death."
Without another word, they lunged at him, and Shika quickly activated his shadow jutsu. Shadows extended from his hands, reaching out like tendrils, grabbing hold of two attackers and immobilizing them. But more came from behind, forcing him to dodge and counterattack. The fight was intense—Root operatives were skilled, and their attacks were synchronized, making it hard for him to find any weak points.
But Shika remained calm, carefully analyzing their movements and looking for openings.
Shika uses some of his already used powers in front of them like Summoning Rabbits, Dogs and Ox. But restrained from summoning any other Shikigami for the time being.
There were many, more than he thought there would be, almost a dozen with 3 Jonin. Those two Jonins were the real issue honestly. But he keeps a steady pace.
Now if Shika wanted to he could easily run away or even beat those Roots shinobi if he wanted to, maybe it could be a little hard but definitely not impossible.
However, why would he ever do that? Why work so hard on something so pointless? So in true Nara fashion…
"Okay Okay Okay… I give up…"
"Bastard you are saying this after killing 7 of us…"
"Hey… don't point at me, unlike me, they didn't give up on time…" Shika wanted to say, but unlike usual shinobi, these Root members don't have any emotions or bonds, even if they lose their comrades then they are not gonna bat an eye.
So, he was just thinking about the awesome responses he had just in case someone might as him while those Root members ruthlessly restrained him.

In Root Base.
Shika was brought down here and before even anything he was beaten pretty badly. He had to say, these people know how to welcome guesses.
He was currently sitting, more like tied up to, a chair in a cellar inside the Root base, Chakra suppression seals placed all over his body. Bruises all over his body, but they didn't do any kind of long-term damage to him.
He waited there, doing nothing but buying his time. Knowing Danzo, it won't be long before he comes along to put that mark on his body. It hadn't been long since those Root members brought him here, so he wasn't that worried about what was going on outside.
He waited, and waited, to the point that all that Nara instincts kicked in and sleep overcame him. Quickly taking a nap didn't sound that bad after all.
But he stayed awake, he had to, becuase Danzo was coming.

A Root member knelt before Danzo, their voice steady and emotionless. "Lord Danzo, we have captured Shika Nara."
Danzo's eyes narrowed slightly, and a smirk crept across his face. "That brat, nothing but the big game," he said, rising slowly from his seat. Not even intending to ask about the casualties either, though still, the Root members put a Paper about the recent mission on the desk, and he glances at the number only to quickly remove that smirk off of his face. There was a loss after all.
Root is not that big, getting strong puppets for himself was hard, especially training them to grow stronger.
This was his years of efforts. Those Chunins are nothing but all three Jonins he sends are dead. Even one among them was an Elite Jonin.
The dimly lit room cast long shadows across his figure as he walked towards the door. He had been waiting for this moment.
"Assemble the team," Danzo ordered. "Prepare the sealing chamber. It's time to make Shika Nara one of ours."
The Root member nodded and vanished into the shadows. Danzo moved through the hallways, his mind already planning the next phase. The seal he intended to place on Shika would ensure no info of him escaped out of that boy, almost all the root members are sealed with this particular tongue seal, So turning the insolent Nara into an unyielding tool for Root, will take some time, breaking the mind and then programming it to the point that he is nothing a tool. That is why Root is so small, not many survive the process and those who do, take time to cultivate. That is why every dead in his root, stings. Not sentimental or anything it's just a loss of manpower.
However, Shika was actually more important to him right now than those root members. Summons, his personal strength, his healing capabilities and lastly his circle.
Right now, if there was one pawn who can make him Hokage over someone like Tsunade then it has to be Shika here. Assassinating a Kage-level shinobi like Tsunade was hard, almost impossible inside Konoha.
He could try to control Tsunade with Shisui's Mangekyo and could make her a puppet Hokage but he was worried, he wasn't a scientist like Orochimaru but even he knew that both Senju and Uchiha's bloodlines suppress each other.
And though he had no solid proof, but he could only use Shisui's eye once, he wasn't even sure whether after the ridiculous time of 10 years that eye would recover, let alone he could hold onto his body for that long, he was almost 70 this year. He was running out of time.
Hiruzen knew about Shisui's eyes, so Danzo never dared to act against Hiruzen, and now it was the same thing again with Tsunade.
So, right now he needed someone, someone who could eliminate a Sannin and when doing so the suspicion doesn't fall onto him.
Almost impossible to do so, pretty much no one could do it besides Shika. Not only the boy was strong enough but was also close to both Jiraiya and Tsunade.
This was also a reason why he didn't plan to keep Shika here for a long time. Either he outright manipulates him with Mangekyo or threatens him and blackmails that boy to do his beating, whatever it was, he needs to act quickly, he can't keep Shika here in Root if he doesn't want to raise suspicion.

In the cellar where Shika was captured, Danzo finally arrived. Looking over Shika who was beaten, he had a disdainful look on his face.
"Ah, I knew that you were looking like one of those villains from fantasy novels. Looks never li…." Shika looked up to Danzo and smirked instead of shouting at him. He was delivering one of his lines which he planned so long, however before even he was done, he was interrupted, more like stuck hard at his face by a Root Member.
"Dare to talk like that to Danzo Sama…"
An irritated look appears on Shika's face, he really put some time into coming up with that line.
"Shika Nara, you are to be executed here for conspiring against the Hidden Leave," Danzo said with a mostly calm tone.
Shika worked hard to not roll his eyes by now. How come he can say such a straight lie in front of him, this man has no shame.
Upon not getting a response Danzo narrowed his eyes, and tried to agitate Shika more. But he didn't have to, because Shika finally opened his mouth.
"Go To Hell….
