Chapter 48: Death!
Cough!
Shi Haoli coughed blood as he tried to stand up. His appearance had completely changed from earlier, while the confidence was nowhere to be seen.
The dress he was wearing had now been torn to pieces, and his entire back was wet with blood. His frontal part was sunken with several of his bones being crushed to powder.
Argh!
Even moving his head slightly caused him to groan in pain, forcing him to stop any movement.
Before he could understand just what had suddenly happened, he heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching him.
With a painful expression, he looked ahead. His eyes shrunk like a needle, and the next moment, an expression of horror appeared on his face.
Not caring about the injury or the pain, Shi Haoli tried to run from the scene.
But before he could move even slightly, the figure was before him.
It was a beast-like figure, covered in pussful scabs. Shi Haoli was only seeing something that hideous for the second time.
The first time he saw that thing was a few decades ago, and he still remembered the dreadful power carried by the hideous being.
Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!
The next moment, the creature bent down and immediately ate a large chunk of his sunken right shoulder. Before Shi Haoli could cry out in pain, the sound of the creature crunching his bones rang in his ears.
A chill crawled down his spine, and he was immediately mentally broken. His eyes dimmed down, while whatever struggle his body was making disappeared.
The beast-like being's bite had poison, and it worked instantly.
"How dare you?"
A voice full of anger rang in the area, and immediately after that, the beast was knocked several meters away.
Shi Jingxu couldn't help but become enraged when he saw the situation of his nephew. Without caring about anything, he rushed forward and punched the beast.
The beast was enraged by someone interrupting its dinner, so it let out an angry roar and charged forward.
Shi Jingxu was in no mood to delay the fight, so a talisman appeared in his hand. He took a step forward and appeared right above the beast's head.
He immediately slapped the talisman on the beast's head and backed away.
Snap!
He had only snapped his fingers when the talisman started to burn. Its burning speed was insanely high, and it immediately engulfed the beast.
Roar! Roar! Roar!
Chhhhiiiisss!
The beast let out rows of painful roars while a burning sound rang.
The beast was burned to ashes in no time. Shi Jingxu didn't care about it and rushed to his nephew.
The next moment, his expression turned ugly. His nephew didn't have any life energy left in his body at all.
The poison was so potent that it killed a 9th level Golden Core in only a few seconds. If not for the serious injury, his body would have had a chance to fight back against the poison, but unfortunately, his body was too injured to put up a fight.
The ugliness was followed by a wave of sadness that engulfed his heart. He shared an extremely close bond with Shi Haoli's father, so he didn't know how he would tell his brother about his son's death.
In the next few moments, several 10th and 11th level Golden Cores arrived on the scene. They also had expressions of anger on their faces since all three Golden Cores that arrived on the scene earlier were dead.
Even though they had killed all the enemies, the loss of three talented members of the human race was too much for the loss of traitors.
Those who knew the relationship between Shi Jingxu and Shi Haoli came to console him, while the remaining ones began to search for any clues against the traitors.
***
"It seems I have become too soft on all of you."
The city lord cursed angrily after he heard the news of the attack and the loss of three talented members of the human race.
Before the city lord, there were four men and one woman, and all five of them were 12th level Golden Cores, and yet neither of them dared to look into the eyes of the city lord.
The city lord was usually the strongest in the city, as it was directly assigned by the Federation. No family power could help a member get that title.
Even the most powerful families on the continent didn't dare to do such things despite having a say in the Federation.
"Postpone the examination to three days, so we can search the entire city for these human scums."
"I am sorry, master, but you don't have the authority to prepone or postpone the examination. It is your failure that such things happened, but the examination will continue on the schedule."
The city lord was stumped for words, and he glared at the person, but he could only glare. For every city, the Federation would send a supervisor, and the woman entering the room was one.
Even though she called the city lord 'master', her tone contained a hint of arrogance. She was not only from a major family but also had a powerful position in the Federation.
She was wearing a gorgeous robe that couldn't hide her beautiful curves. She was wearing heavy makeup, which didn't seem displeasing at all. Even though she looked like a vixen, her demeanor was the complete opposite. Her back was straight, while her walk was majestic.
"I have already talked with the Federation. They have informed me that they will be sending a group of investigators."
The next sentence sunk not only the heart of the city lord, but also the four other people in the room.
The Federation rarely sent investigators as the law and order was the jurisdiction of the lord of the city. The Federation didn't involve itself much in it since it already had a lot of things to do.
"How can you?"
The city lord angrily asked since he would be hit the hardest of all with the coming of the investigators.
The woman responded to that with silence, but her expression suddenly changed, and she took her phone out.
