He told me that it was possible for the black magic used to kill the tree to corrupt the others, so it was better to be safe than sorry. We wouldn't want any rampaging wolves around. As for Maggie, he just didn't want her around.

Hearing my question, he beckoned for me to come closer, asking me to sit right in front of the dead tree. He placed his transparent hands on my shoulders, pointing at the tree.

"Are you sure about this? There's no turning back once we start," he asked, and I'm sure he'd know my answer with his mind-reading abilities. "Killing the Wishing Tree must imply that whoever did it possessed great power, and the effect would almost certainly backfire on you if you lacked the ability to defeat it. Your witch friend was telling the truth."
